@MollyRover I'd put on so much weight before pregnancy anyway, but I've been clearing out cupboards and stuff to make space and found so many nice clothes that I want to be able to fit into again next year, so I think that would be a good idea! I'm definitely planning on getting out for some long walks with the baby as soon as I'm able!

And re partner's support - my husband has so far mentioned taking his noise cancelling headphones and that's the extent of it, haha! He'll be useless, but as long as he's there I suppose, lol.

MollyRover · 01/06/2022 16:49

@NamelessBaby1 noise cancelling headphones ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚that really made me laugh. At least I hope he was trying to be funny!!

@HotToddyColdSauvignon good woman, I'm completely f*cked off with work now too. 2 more very full days to go and they are getting their money's worth out of me! Can't wait until the laptop gets shut proper on Friday. I've already worked between 1 and 2 extra hours every day this week and they have me in meetings until the last minute.

More great news, the midwives have finally decided to do the test for GD (I thought they should have done it already). Only appointment I could get was for the day that DH and I had planned to spend some quality time together. Instead I'll be getting up at stupid o clock and sitting in a community centre with a Kindle for 2 hours, on the verge of fainting. I'm a bit panicked about how I'm going to cope with the fasting, I've been such a savage this whole pregnancy.

Can you tell I'm in a fantastic mood?

Lianna93 · 01/06/2022 19:20

Last day of work tomorrow & my baby box arrived today - It's all starting to feel super real! ๐Ÿฅบโค๏ธ

So I have the main big purchases

Have a cot for upstairs and downstairs, but we will be visiting my mother in law a fair bit and she wants everything stocked at hers so we don't have to lug it all over

What is everyone doing about sleeping in daytime? At home we will have a permanent cot for sleeping in day time and one set up in our bedroom but just thinking about when we visit people and esp mother in law where visits may be longer than a couple of hours ? X

ShellUK09 · 01/06/2022 19:50

@Lianna93 Wow that baby box is fantastic! I know it is starting to feel very real, 33 weeks and 2 days now. I leave work in 10 working days with and had to say bye to someone on my team today as they are off on a longer holiday so I won't see them again before I finish work. Made me feel a bit sad ๐Ÿฅบ I blame the hormones! Although sure once I log off for maternity I'll be in the best mood! It does hit you all of a sudden that this is happening, and soon!

MollyRover · 01/06/2022 20:05

@Lianna93 that baby box is adorable!!

@strawberrysummer19 travel cot all the way, I'll be using it downstairs at home too. Might get a day cot later but we used the travel cot for DC1 and found it cut down on having too much stuff. I use a real mattress in it at home though, not just the roll out thing it comes with.

strawberrysummer19 · 01/06/2022 20:20

@MollyRover what type of travel cot?
There's so many?! Bit overwhelming
I used a travel cot for mine when I stayed at my mums but I found the high sides broke my back
Trying to see if there was an alternative but don't think there is
We have a bassinet for home and then will put her into a cotbed but for mother in laws I suppose a travel cot is best option x

MollyRover · 01/06/2022 20:36

@strawberrysummer19 I had one where the height was adjustable, I thought they were all like that now. Instead of the mattress being on the ground it's about 20cms from the top of the travel cot walls iykwim?

strawberrysummer19 · 01/06/2022 20:37

@MollyRover yeah my friend just said the same
I like the adjustable heights ones x

Lianna93 · 01/06/2022 20:46

@strawberrysummer19 I have a Moses basket for downstairs & a cotbed for upstairs.
I'm gonna take my baby box to my in-laws as my cats will try to claim that but also means baby can be put down for a nap rather than either being held or be in her car seat :)

JJ1992 · 01/06/2022 20:46

We have a cotbed for babies room and a snuzpod for early days in our room. I think we will use the pram basinet for daytime sleeping most likely, i just thought three beds was excessive ๐Ÿ™ˆ might end up taking the snuzpod downstairs in the first couple of days

CaptainCarp · 01/06/2022 20:49

@missv556 @strawberrysummer19 it's surprising to see how other trusts do things. I've had a consultant clinic straight after each scan. Only next week is different as they couldn't fit me in to scan on Wed afternoon so I've got it Tuesday evening then clinic as usual Wed.

I hope you both can get a decent conversation with your consultants to confirm birth plan.

SamanthaVimes · 01/06/2022 20:58

@strawberrysummer19 weโ€™ll use the carry cot bit of the pram for daytime sleeps or (more likely) the sling if this one is anything like DD was ๐Ÿ˜…

@Lianna93 that baby box looks amazing! very jealous!

JJ1992 · 01/06/2022 21:03

Has anyone bought a snot sucker yet ๐Ÿ˜‚ ive heard great things!

SamanthaVimes · 01/06/2022 21:16

@JJ1992 I definitely want to get one. We luckily didnโ€™t need it with DD as all the lockdowns meant she didnโ€™t get a cold until she was about 9 or 10 months old but I expect sheโ€™ll bring home loads of nursery germs to infect her new brother much earlier than that.

I did find saline spray, calpol plugins and snuffle babe helpful with DD but I think you canโ€™t use those from birth

strawberrysummer19 · 01/06/2022 22:20

Yep snot sucker purchased !

It was a godsend with my first! So that was definitely on the list x

CaptainCarp · 01/06/2022 22:20

@JJ1992 my friend got me one! Hadn't even thought about it but DP usually catches everything so I'm sure baby will to ๐Ÿ˜‚

@Lianna93 is that the Scottish baby box? Looks great!

We've got a moses basket for downstairs & a next to me for upstairs sleeping. Not thought about what to use for visiting but I expect most people will be coming to me to start with then I can have a think.

EmJay19 · 01/06/2022 22:31

@MollyRover yes to a fat club!

This is my second and last time I put on more weight after he was born and didnโ€™t start to lose it until I stopped breastfeeding a year later.

Everyone said bfing would make the weight come off but it kept it on for me.

Really want it to be different this time!!!

NamelessBaby1 · 01/06/2022 22:33

Not a chance I'll be getting a snot sucker, the very thought of it gives me the boak!!

@Lianna93 Yaas loving all the yellow stuff! Cant wait to get mine which is on its way already, hopefully it's the same and lovely and bright stuff!

I've got a bedside crib for upstairs and a Moses basket for downstairs sleeping. I've also managed to inherit 2 travel cots, so I'll give one to my parents for their house and keep the other just in case. No doubt my cat will also claim the baby box for itself, but that's ok given how many other beds I've ended up with!

Lianna93 · 01/06/2022 23:45

@CaptainCarp Yeah this is the Scottish box ๐Ÿ˜Š I'm honestly in awe of everything & I like that they take mumma into account too with the maternity & breast pads!
Not gonna lie... I've been a wee bit too chicken to purchase the pads ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ˜‚ So definitely handy that I've been given them in the box ๐Ÿ˜‚

@NamelessBaby1 Ooh! I'm excited for you - I honestly felt like a kid on Christmas when I came home & saw the box! I immediately sent my voucher away for the reusable nappy too - so hopefully get that real soon ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป

Managed to get all 3 Emma diary bags from Argos today & have a 'your baby club' box coming on Friday ๐Ÿ™ˆ

V jealous of the Scottish box @Lianna93 ! Looks fab

soโ€ฆ very glad this is an anon forum!โ€ฆ perineal massageโ€ฆ anyone else started it yet?

DH and I attempted first try last night and he was so sweet and so kind but it just felt so awkward and intimate but not in a good way that I cried. Then he reminded me he was going to be seeing me a lot worse in about 4 weeks time ๐Ÿ˜ gave me a cuddle and said when I was ready we can try again over the weekend.

not sure if we did it right, felt v uncomfortable โ€œinsideโ€, can only liken it to a smear test kind of uncomfortable? Anyone else tried it yet?

laurenGame · 02/06/2022 05:04

Not a chance I'll be getting a snot sucker, the very thought of it gives me the boak!!

@NamelessBaby1 I had a bad cold not long ago and my nose was so blocked it was awful not being able to breathe and not allowed nasal decongestant. I don't know how a baby would cope with a blocked nose as they can't breathe through their mouth for the first few months ๐Ÿ™
I know back in the day they managed but it must have been hard to have a bub with a blocked nose ๐Ÿฅบ

laurenGame · 02/06/2022 05:07

@HotToddyColdSauvignon I'm not doing perineal massage, I just can't do it. Cannot.
I am doing a lot of pelvic floor exercises and hoping that will help it?
Anyone else not doing the massage thing?

๐Ÿ™ˆ

SamanthaVimes · 02/06/2022 05:28

@laurenGame Iโ€™m not doing perineal massage either, itโ€™s just not for me

Lianna93 · 02/06/2022 06:27

@HotToddyColdSauvignon I've got the peri prep your bits stuff to do it with but haven't started yet - will likely start from tonight/tomorrow onwards since I'll be done with work.
From what I read, it should give you a bit of discomfort but nothing major because you are literally stretching your skin.
I hate the idea of tearing or being cut so will do absolutely anything to minimise that ๐Ÿ˜ฌ
