Hello!

I have noticed on quite a few of the threads I've been reading that the odd person will comment they are pregnant with twins, but I can't see a current twins thread.

I'm almost 28 weeks with dcda twins. Have a nearly 2 year old as well. Have so far found the pregnancy pretty straightforward but the aches and pains and tiredness are starting to hit me now. And I feel like I am getting quite large! Although I think relatively given there are 2 in there I'm probably not that big really.

Anyone at a similar stage and want to compare notes over the coming weeks?

How’s everyone doing? Hope the girls are continuing to do well @Trinxsy

I went for another private scan because I felt I didn’t ask enough questions on my 1st, and it seemed like an age before my NHS one on the 23rd

They are identical, one sac and one placenta. So quite nervous at the moment

applecrumbler · 17/05/2022 09:14

Hey everyone. Just catching up with posts, @Trinxsy great to hear that the girls are doing well!! Any further idea on when you may be able to go home?

Had a quick question re buggies. Has anyone found any particularly good inline options, is it called tandem? I want to definitely get a side by side at some point or as well, but just for now we have a handy but narrow passage to our back door which avoids steps, thinking as a temporary measure this might make sense. I need something that is less than 60cm wide! I don't really like that style but thinking of benefits of keeping my stress levels to a minimum when they are new!

I am 30 weeks tomorrow! Still feeling surprisingly chipper and mobile, long may that continue!

How early is everyone planning to take Mat Leave?

Donimo · 19/05/2022 21:34

@Betseyrov I am walking around fine and doing all my normal activities but just a little slower than before. How are you feeling? I only work 3 days per week in the NHS. So since 26 weeks I haven't be allowed to do patient face to face contact. My manager agreed since 26 weeks to work from home 2 days and go in 1 day.

@SurpriseSurprise that's good that you have more information now. And not long till your NHS scan now!

@applecrumbler sorry can't help with narrow prams as we have just brought a bugaboo donkey... which is the opposite of what you want!

@Katjolo I am planning to work till 34 weeks although only work part time (3 days per week). I then have my c section planned for 2 weeks later!

Yesterday we did all the paperwork for my planned c section and requested a date for the end of June! 😬

I had an annoying consultant review yesterday I think I might be showing the early signs of preeclampsia but the doctor just dismissed it. I had protein in my urine and my blood pressure was significantly raised for me (as my normal blood pressure is low), last month it was 103/52 but yesterday it was 130/78. This is what happened with my daughter during my last pregnancy and I was eventually diagnosed with preeclampsia.

LuckyTigress · 19/05/2022 21:45

Sorry for the silence! My twins arrived on 13 May at 37+3 😊The c section went well although the second day was agony! Twin 1 needed a few hours in special care but was back on the ward with me that night. We were discharged the next day and are settling in at home. Both twins were small so we are having daily monitoring from the community midwife team and the support has been fab! If anyone has any questions about delivery etc. please let me know.

Katjolo · 19/05/2022 22:01

Congratulations. 🥳🥳🥳

Donimo · 20/05/2022 06:31

@LuckyTigress congratulations, I hope you are all doing well at home. Did you have boys/girls/1 of each? Was it a planned c section you had?

IsabelHerna · 20/05/2022 09:57

Congratulations!!! xxx

applecrumbler · 20/05/2022 10:50

@LuckyTigress congratulations! Wonderful to hear you're already home as well.

When you say small, how small were they? And how is feeding going? I had such stress with weight gain last time with just one baby born at over 8lbs so I have a bit of anxiety around this point..

SurpriseSurprise · 20/05/2022 11:17

Congratulations @LuckyTigress

LuckyTigress · 20/05/2022 22:04

Thank you all! ❤

@Donimo I had 1 boy & 1 girl. I had a planned c section which is what I wanted but I couldn’t deliver vaginally as my twin 1 was breech. Surgery went well but I was not prepared for the pain the next day!

@applecrumbler My twin 1 was 4 lbs 7 and twin 2 was 4 lbs 10. I am predominantly breastfeeding but they lost too much weight, twin 1 went down to 3lbs 9 by day 3 (!!) so I am topping up with formula which means my husband can help with feeds which has been so helpful. We are now a week in and they are back to birth weights thankfully so headed in the right direction.

Betseyrov · 20/05/2022 22:54

Fantastic news @LuckyTigress , massive congratulations 💐! Glad to hear you're already home and getting good support. Enjoy those newborn cuddles 🥰 💝

Betseyrov · 23/05/2022 21:09

How's everyone doing?

@SurpriseSurprise did you have your scan today?

For those who've already had their babies, how's the feeding doing? I joined a twins breastfeedind Facebook page and keep snoozing it, the posts I see dont fill me with confidence.

SurpriseSurprise · 23/05/2022 21:49

@Betseyrov thank you for remembering!

12 week scan was today, and it was confirmed that I am having mo/mo (MCMA) twins. Both are roughly the same size at the moment, but I’m going to be having regular additional checks. I’ve got to see a “twin specialist” in the coming weeks because of the high risks with this time of twin. They’ve also said they won’t let me go over 32 weeks

It’s all exciting but also a bit terrifying

MrsEG · 23/05/2022 23:27

Congratulations everyone!

My twins are 2.5 now. It’s hard hard work but also very rewarding.
Prams - whichever one you get, make sure it will fit through your front door. If they’re fast asleep in it after a walk you’ll be raging if you can’t just push it inside! I have the Out n About Nipper double, it’s fabulous.
Be prepared to become a local celebrity and answer to ‘are they twins?’ 8427 times a day.
Accept any and all help you possibly can when they’re babies!
Twin feeding pillows are a must
Twins Trust well worth looking in to and they often run webinars that are super useful.

Good luck and enjoy your pregnancies as much as you can with two wriggling around in there!

Comz · 24/05/2022 10:22

@Donimo ive seen bits I like but need to know what they are so that we can start buying properly. I’m hoping that they scan me at my first consultant appointment today so that I can be cheeky and ask if they can tell what they are. The worst they can say is no lol. Then can start looking for exactly what I want and pick bits up week by week so it’s not a one shop bull buy and cry at the end of it lol.

@Betseyrov think I sound like your husband lol I want to pick bits up week by week and I’ve made my list already of what is needed at the beginning and what can wait so I have a staring point.

Betseyrov · 24/05/2022 12:12

@SurpriseSurprise that's great news! Does it mean they share a sac and a placenta? Has your husband disgested the news now?

@MrsEG thank you for the tips! What did your twins sleep in at the very beginning?

@Comz have you started buying stuff? I'm picking up a second hand chico next to me today. I already have one, so I'll have a spare one for downstairs.

Ladies, how many times a night do you have to wee? I am sooo fed up, I feel like I'm up all night going to the toilet. I havent counted but it must be around 3 or 4 times, and I'm only 22 weeks. Is it going to get worse?

Donimo · 24/05/2022 17:42

@Comz I found out the gender at my first consultant appointment at 16 weeks. At each fornightly appointment I get scanned then reviewed by the consultant. So you should be scanned.

@SurpriseSurprise glad your scan went well. I am sure when you see the consultant they will answer some of your questions.

@Betseyrov I haven't noticed a lot of difference as my pregnancy progressed re bathroom trips at night (currently 31 weeks). I tend to go 1 or 2 times. But also up with my 3 year olds bathroom trips too!

I got the date for my c section today.... 28th June, only 5 weeks away! 😬

Comz · 24/05/2022 19:43

@Betseyrov no I haven’t brought anything yet so I wanted to start.

@Donimo so they scanned me today but when asked could the consultant tell me what they are she said it’s too early but I’m 16 weeks tomorrow. She was running 45 mins late so I was the rush through appointment to try and get her back on track so not overly impressed. Especially as she could have quickly looked. Both babies cooperated as well so it was easy enough to check the health bits eg bladder size and fluid. At least she did say I would have a choice on delivery as it looks like our hospital policy is that you can have natural and sunroof option 😂

so I have bitten the bullet, I’ve got the midwife in the morning and a private scan in the afternoon so that we will know what they are and can start the bit by bit shopping.

Donimo · 24/05/2022 19:54

@Comz to be fair during my 16 week scan the consultant wasn't 100% sure of the sex of 1 twin but thought maybe a girl. Then looked at the other twin and said that one was definitely a girl so as they are identical they must both be girls. So maybe it is a little borderline at 16 weeks to tell. Also though all my scans they still haven't been able to rule out a minor hole in the heart in twin 2. And been told that is because it's often difficult to get twins in the right position to get all the information.

Hope you get more answers tomorrow.

Comz · 24/05/2022 20:54

@Donimo it was just annoying that they were in the right place for the fluid, head, bladder and leg measurements. They had a perfect potty shot at twin b at one point and still didn’t look. Everything health wise is confirmed as fine and they were very well behaved this time compared to the 12 week scan where by one punched the other and then the other got annoyed and tried to fight with the machine lol.

the private scan is purely for scanning for the gender so they will put it in 4d and there will be no mistaking the bits and pieces then lol. But at least then we can start prepping for the gender specific things that we want.

Betseyrov · 25/05/2022 12:41

How exciting @Donimo , it's getting real! How do you feel, are you ready?

@Comz when is your gender scan? What's your predictions?

I ended up getting the next2me for free yesterday, cant believe how generous thte lady was. Now I need to get the buggy, but I think I'll get it when I'm closer to 30 weeks. I also need to get a couple of swings for downstairs, or maybe something similar to sleepyheads. What are you guys planning for downstairs when they're awake? I had a joie swing with my last baby and sold it thinking I was done with babies. She didnt like it that much anyway, and spent most of the first 2 months taped to my chest 🤣

Comz · 25/05/2022 15:37

@Betseyrov we have had it this afternoon. Can finally start actually looking for things now. We are all pink and girly in this house lol.

I’ll be honest because the symptoms were between my boy pregnancy and girl pregnancy I was actually convinced they were boys but nope they are girls.

Betseyrov · 25/05/2022 19:30

Congratulations 🤗 💝💝 @Comz
