Twin pregnancy

Hello!

I have noticed on quite a few of the threads I've been reading that the odd person will comment they are pregnant with twins, but I can't see a current twins thread.

I'm almost 28 weeks with dcda twins. Have a nearly 2 year old as well. Have so far found the pregnancy pretty straightforward but the aches and pains and tiredness are starting to hit me now. And I feel like I am getting quite large! Although I think relatively given there are 2 in there I'm probably not that big really.

Anyone at a similar stage and want to compare notes over the coming weeks?

Whoops meant eventful! I'm a bit tired 😁

Congratulations. 🥳

doingitforthegirls · 08/05/2022 17:39

@Trinxsy

Massive congratulations!

Just on the surestart payment....you have to be in receipt of benefits to be eligible. So if both you and your husband work like we do you don't get it

Donimo · 08/05/2022 17:58

@doingitforthegirls normally to get a surestart grant you need to be on certain benefits. But if having a multiple birth the status of your benefits isn't an issue.

"Usually, to get a Sure Start Maternity Grant you must have no other children under 16. You or your partner must also get one of these benefits....

If you already have children under 16
You may still be able to get a grant if any of the following apply:
you’re expecting a multiple birth (such as twins)"

Myself and my husband don't receive any benefits and both work

applecrumbler · 08/05/2022 19:26

@Trinxsy congratulations! Wow quite stressful but I'm sure you're in the best hands and will be able to get home before tooo long.

@Donimo this is excellent knowledge if true! Do you need to even claim child benefit? We don't get any of that so I'd be amazed, but delighted, if we were eligible.

OP posts:
doingitforthegirls · 08/05/2022 20:32

@Donimo

Have you had a claim approved?
It's only the restriction about not having previous children where you can claim it if your next pregnancy is twins or triplets. But you still have to be in receipt of the benefits on the list to be eligible. (Normally you can only claim the grant for your first child)

Glitterbug86 · 08/05/2022 20:55

@Trinxsy oh wow, congratulations!

Betseyrov · 08/05/2022 21:58

@Trinxsy oh wow wow wow massive congratulations, well done to you and your amazing baby girls 💐 how are you?

@JessicaPeach thank you, I didn't know it was up until 8 months. That's good to know. Dont know what to do now 🤔

@Donimo you are giving me excellent news! Have you claimed it yourself and got it approved? The only benefit we get is child benefit so we aren't usually eligible for anything.

Betseyrov · 08/05/2022 21:59

@Donimo how did the car hunting go?

Trinxsy · 08/05/2022 23:30

Thank you so much everyone! I've been discharged from the ward now despite feeling terrible still so NICU have kindly given me a bed for at least another night or two unless someone else urgently needs it - I'd give it up in a heartbeat if someone needed it more but for now I'm enjoying being a 10 second walk away from the girls.

I feel a bit blue right now but that's to be expected. Amazed at their progress though, babies are such resilient little people!

Donimo · 09/05/2022 08:38

I maybe wrong with the benefits and the grant.. it was some info an acquaintance gave me. I haven't applied yet as only 29 weeks at present.

@Betseyrov we have narrowed down what we are looking for is a ford s max. And looked at a couple second hand but they were not suitable due to a few issues. So now trying to find a suitable one second hand. We have ordered storage options though to be delivered next week.

I am starting to stress about the lots of little things to get/sort. Made worse as over the last week or so I am finding things harder and harder to do.

Plan for today is to buy the things for my hospital bag and pack it and then sort out my clothes in prep for the new storage to be delivered next week. But my 3 year old is already begging to go to the park and swimming today. We have compromised on sorting my things this morning and then going for a picnic in the park followed by swimming.... think I'll be exhausted by the time of my aquafit class this evening!

Glitterbug86 · 09/05/2022 16:05

@Donimo we put a deposit down on a second hand s-max at the weekend. My cousin, who had a toddler and then twins, recommended it. Hope to collect it later this week. Great relief to have that box checked (almost). Hope you find something suitable soon. I'm also stressing about all the little things we still need to prep, esp when it's hard to predict when twins will arrive, but I'm sure we'll get there!!

Betseyrov · 09/05/2022 19:00

@Donimo @Glitterbug86 I've got a smax and it's great. Loads of space and big boot, 3 isofix seats on the second row of seats.
@Donimo does your 3 year still nap? I rely on my little girl's naps, to rest or work. I dread the moment she will stop napping. I'm also going to aquabump tonight, hope you enjoy your class!
@Trinxsy how's your girls doing today?

Trinxsy · 09/05/2022 21:59

@Betseyrov They're doing amazing thank you! Considering our little Daisy almost didn't make it due to breathing difficulties, she's actually breathing air right now and is having no desaturations at all!
It's incredible really. The medics continue to be surprised by her progress - they're clearly stubborn like their mum.

I'm just waiting to hold Daisy right now, she needs to warm up a little, as she's five days old now and I haven't been able to hold her yet so I'm really excited for that.

Violet is doing great too, no changes with her as she just needs to gain weight now!

Betseyrov · 09/05/2022 22:18

@Trinxsy that's amazing news, you must be so proud of your little fighters. Enjoy the cuddle with Daisy tonight. It must have been so hard not being able to hold her yet. They both have beautiful names by the way, they really go well together. I hope they both continue to make progress, and that you get to stay with them a few night longer if you can x

SurpriseSurprise · 09/05/2022 22:39

Congratulations @Trinxsy hope it’s not long before you can hold Daisy

Glitterbug86 · 09/05/2022 22:52

Awh @Trinxsy enjoy those first cuddles 🥰 Lovely names also

Donimo · 10/05/2022 08:36

@Betseyrov no she unfortunately doesn't really nap anymore. Although does slep 12 hours at night. Glad to hear the s max seems to be a good choice for 3 young children! Just need to find one now, husband is seeing one later today.

@Trinxsy glad to hear your girls are doing so well. That must of been amazing for your first cuddle after waiting so long. Hope it all went to plan

LuckyTigress · 10/05/2022 13:37

@Trinxsy huge congratulations! So pleased to hear they are doing well and hopefully you get snuggles very soon!

Comz · 11/05/2022 22:55

I’m glad I fount this thread as I’m currently 14 weeks pregnant with mcda twins. We fount out at 6 weeks at epu and the other half was that surprised that he had to walk out. Fount him at the bus stop, breathing heavily like his life had flashed before his eyes lol 😂

I had a private reassurance scan at 11 weeks to find twin 1 shadow boxing (other half didn’t come with me but I was anxious due to a missed miscarriage previously) but then had my nhs scan this week (which he came with) and twin 1 ended up punching twin 2 in the face whilst being scanned we both laughed. Then he went to the football shop and got them both a pj set (the first things they have received). So he’s determined they are boys.

we have discussed getting a bigger car (I currently have an Astra), I don’t want to get a new car as I only got this one last nov. I can fit my 13 year old and 9 year old in as neither are in a car seat anymore then the twins. So either he gets a car or walks lol 😂

I want a side by side pram so that I can see both at the same time but the cost and choice is limited. I’d love the donkey but with everything else that comes with twins, I can’t justify it.

Betseyrov · 13/05/2022 23:20

Congratulations @Comz ! How do you feel about having twins?
I'm still hesitating between a mountain duet and a donkey. They're both expensive indeed but they seem so good and I just need to make my life easier. Have you checked marketplace to see if there's any second hand ones available?

How's everyone doing?
@Trinxsy how are your girls doing?

Comz · 14/05/2022 04:29

@Betseyrov thank you. I think I had a feeling it was. Last September I had a dream that the doctor told me it was twins and then the day after I found out I was pregnant but that one was confirm single pregnancy that we lost at 6 weeks. So when I found out this time I actually said it would be my luck if it’s twins 😂. The night before my scan me and partner was talking and he said what do we do if it’s twins? As fraternal twins do run in both sides of the family (my dad and his grandma both were twins but the sibling died at birth). So to hear identical and know that they are spontaneous and not passed through the family was a sort of yep just my luck.

I looked at the mountain duet and also the Roma Gemini double and prefer the second one due to the way it folds and the smaller wheels. But love the idea of the donkey due to it being able to convert to a mono then carrying one in a papoose. But also like it’s drag feature for sand when we go to the seaside.

I’m not on Facebook so a couple of friends have had a look at market place but the price isn’t much different between used and new at the moment. Whilst I know I’m not going to get a deal like I did with my sons pram off gumtree as it was only £90 for a hauck travel system and in mint condition, I rather pay the extra £100 for a new one just to get a warranty at that amount.

As my son is 9, we are effectively starting again as I saved nothing from him so I can keep looking as car seats, nappies, clothes, bottles, steriliser and cots etc can be got before the pram anyway. But I want to know the gender before I start to get anything.

Katjolo · 14/05/2022 21:48

25 weeks and exhausted! Anyone else struggle to do basic tasks? I tried putting fresh sheets etc. On the bed and gave up almost as soon as I started. I needed a sit down! 🙉

Trinxsy · 15/05/2022 00:14

Our girls are doing great thank you. Daisy joined her sister in special care today, came off her oxygen and her meds. She's just on a feeding tube and caffeine exactly like her sister.

It's unbelievable really considering we almost lost her. They're little fighters all the way. We're so proud.

They got to cuddle together for the first time today and they were both so content and just kept snuggling in closer together. It was amazing.

I think we're just in shock at how well they're both doing at only 10 days old when we think that we were told Daisy might not make it through the night. They both just have to grow now. Home is looking sooner than we thought.

Donimo · 15/05/2022 07:58

@Comz congratulations! I didn't start buying anything till past 20 weeks really so you have plenty of time still. At 29 weeks we have most things but still not the pram, looking out for a second hand donkey.

@Katjolo I am 30 weeks on Tuesday and been struggling for the last 2 weeks or so. Now counting down the days left in work, but still have 4/5 weeks to go. My twins are about 3lb each, so together more or less a full term baby size.... so not surprising really! And I am definitely about the same size as I was when full term with my daughter. Just do what you can and rest as needed... take whatever help you can get. I spent yesterday afternoon lying in my daughters paddling pool to cool off and rest.... would of been better without the toddler in there too!

@Trinxsy that's great news about your girls, so glad they are doing so well. What a lovely bond they have too 💏

How is everyone else doing?

Betseyrov · 16/05/2022 13:05

So great to hear the girls are doing great @Trinxsy .poor you, must have been a nightmare when they were saying Daisy might not make it through the night. How are you doing?

@Comz I totally get what you mean about buying new, I'm the same. I'd rather spend more, just for the warranty and peace of mind of being able to send it back in case something goes. My husband has moments of panic where he starts saying we need to start buying such and such lol, I'm much more relaxed and would rather buy closer to the time. We also need to a buy bunk bed and wardrobe for our girls will be sharing when the twins move into my youngest daughter. Just the thought of all of this makes me tired.

@Katjolo if I keep going I'm fine, but it's when I stop the tiredness hits me like a brick.

@Donimo I'm dreading the later stages. I hear a lot of twin mums saying they could barely walk from 30 weeks. Do you work from home or do you have to physically go there?
