Congratulations @4thtimethecharm! - it must have been a huge shock going into labour at 30 weeks, but it sounds like your little boy is doing really well and is in the best place to be looked after.

Hope you're recovering well and that you can be spending lots of time snuggling your little one soon!

4thtimethecharm · 23/04/2022 10:44

Thanks for all your kind messages. Today we saw baby again. He had a good night. He is only 2.6 lbs (1200 grams), but hanging in there.

It is right that he is in the correct place. The medical staff are all super on it, and the room in nicu where he lies with two others is super calm, a bit dark and relaxing. There are a lot of screens/wires/monitoring, but everyone is explaining everything patiently to us. We aren't able to hold him, but I was able to stroke him with my finger tips through openings in the incubator. Tbh, he is so tiny, and fragile, I am kind of ok with that.

A midwife has promised to show me how to pump, so hopefully I can get some colostrum going. I am trying to hand express but not even a drop so far.

I very much hope your pregnancies will continue uneventfully for a bit longer. I will certainly keep on engaging until the babies have all safely arrived. :)

@JAR1981, so relieved it was ok and not amniotic fluid!

@PeeAche2, I hope you and your little girl are settling in well!

sunflower198 · 23/04/2022 10:52

@destiEos the morning readings were the ones I wasn't able to control. I've been on metformin and they took about two weeks to have any effect, now I have mainly ok or only slightly over morning readings.
I had a scan 2 days ago and baby all good so they didn't want to increase my dose or move to insulin and I only have 5 weeks left now. so I don't think they will just automatically put you on medication - I tried all the tips from the GD fb page but have randomly found if I have a chocolate digestive before bed, I get a good reading. The consultant laughed but didn't actually tell me to stop doing that!

sunflower198 · 23/04/2022 10:52

Congratulations @4thtimethecharm - I missed your original post! Hope you are both doing well x

destiEos · 23/04/2022 12:23

@JAR1981 I don't think so, I take lactose after first reading, so had a whole day and night to get it of my system. The GD nutritionist answered pretty much all of my questions with "try it and see" 🙄 I've anyway changed to a sachet of Fybogel too, which is slightly less disgusting - although I think a bit less effective too. I haven't had any juice for weeks 😢 Also dying to get off the iron tablets, they're not doing blood tests til mid-next week, so guess I'm on those for the duration now anyway.

Yeah, I can't believe I have to manually enter my readings onto a form. The device they've given me didn't even have Bluetooth, I manually enter them onto the same company's app, for my own monitoring. It's clearly still 1991 in a West London..

@sunflower198 thanks for sharing, I'm hoping they let me squeeze by as the morning readings are still pretty low. I tried the drinking water before bed tip from GD (as the snack/no snack seemed to make no difference) and have come in at 5.2 this morning. Although I had a lie-in till 10am after being up with insomnia for a few hours, so actually I think that's more likely the cause. But yeah, only 4 weeks to go, so I'd rather not add more stuff if I don't have too 😔 It does look like it's all very individual, doesn't it? Glad to hear you're is under control though 🌷

destiEos · 23/04/2022 12:28

@4thtimethecharm 2.6lbs, he is so small - what a cute little dude he must be ☺️ Sounds like they're very good at helping you through this - it's what the NHS do best, isn't it? Not brilliant with minor things, but really good at the important stuff. Anyway, wishing you well and the little one strength and hoping you'll be home before you know it 🍀💕

imhereforthecake · 23/04/2022 12:45

@4thtimethecharm
Congratulations ❤️
I'm glad little one is doing ok. Look after yourself x

Has anyone else had random period type pains?
I've started having them this morning. I don't think they are braxton hicks as they don't come and go and no tightenings. Just a constant ache.

OP posts:
beansprout55 · 23/04/2022 14:47

@imhereforthecake - I randomly had that but localised to lower back, not tummy, it started last night and only went away before lunch today! It wasn't really painful, more like a dull constant ache. It made me cry because it frustrated me so much as no position or movement would make it go away. Oh, and worse with walking/moving. No idea what it was, maybe growing cramps. I'm 31 weeks.
Do you still have them now?x

Prema112 · 23/04/2022 14:49

@annie1994 My DH has been amazing at times and totally missed the mark at other times... When I say I'm exhausted he's says yeah me too and I'm like ummmm, I don't think it's quite the same... He's stressed with work, doing more school pick ups and generally more around the house as my capacity reduces and he gets grumpy sometimes. I sent him an article about what is happening in my body in the last month of pregnancy and he's been more sympathetic since then 😂

@4thtimethecharm Aww he's so little, what an amazing wee guy! Thinking of you lots x

@imhereforthecake, yes I've had some period type pains. Not for very long and they are mild, I'd worry more if they got stronger, I reckon it's just the uterus getting ready

JAR1981 · 23/04/2022 15:25

@Prema112 sounds like we all need that article to share with DHs! Please do share the link. Mine is still away with work in Italy and just sent me a picture of a massive chocolate gelato. Like seriously? What I wouldn’t give to eat one of those right now.

@destiEos on the water front I’ve been making sure I drink around 750ml through the night as heard it can make quite a difference to the morning readings. Mine is usually around 4.3. I’m struggling for consistency with my post meal readings though. Anything from 5 to 7.6 so far. Is it the lower the better, or is anything ok so long as it’s green? The hospital didn’t tell me and the nurse/dietician didn’t call me at my telephone appointment time on Thursday.@sunflower198 love the chocolate digestive trick!

@4thtimethecharm wonderful to hear he had a good night and the hospital is taking good care of you all.

Brightsmoke · 23/04/2022 15:51

I've just had my 34 week check and baby is measuring big and a high reading of glucose in my wee, so have to go in for a growth scan and potentially a GDD test. Still should be ok for a home birth though 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Vimto1991 · 23/04/2022 16:24

@imhereforthecake i sometimes get this and put it down to my PGP as it can be felt all over the groin area and feels like a dull ache, even down my thighs and feels like it mimics a light period. It really worried me as I started getting it weeks and weeks ago, but if I adjust how I’m sat it seems to relieve it so could be that? Or it’s our bodies preparing themselves. 😬

I got that belly pain people are describing today! Definitley isn’t skin, I can see what you all mean. Feels like muscle ache or bruising right by my belly button. I’ve done quite a bit of house work today so wondering if between that and baby going mental it’s pulled something?

imhereforthecake · 23/04/2022 16:27

@Vimto1991 @Prema112 @beansprout55
Thank you all. I'm glad I'm not alone.
Still getting them now, but they don't seem to be getting any worse. DH said to me this morning he thinks my bump has dropped so maybe it's the pressure. Would just like him to stay out a few more weeks please!

OP posts:
Vimto1991 · 23/04/2022 16:30

@imhereforthecake I was curious about ‘the lightening’, looks like for FTM it can happens weeks before labour so even if it’s that I don’t think it’s too much of a concern! My baby is in my pelvis so wondered if I had the drop, too!

MrsNT · 23/04/2022 17:35

Is anyone going to drink raspberry leaf tea? When do you ladies plan to start drinking raspberry leaf tea?
Ive ordered mine and in my nct classes i was told 34 weeks onwards.

Octoblockisadick · 23/04/2022 18:19

@imhereforthecake I've had a couple, I thought they were braxton hicks haha. Not sure what they are if not, I'm 33 weeks today and have been getting them since mid week I think. I was told at work that my bump looks low, and it does feel lower too. It's easier to breathe, but I'm peeing a lot more, and waddling too. I can feel him quite low between my legs sometimes, and I need to sit with my legs apart.

@JAR1981 oh a chocolate gelato would be so nice, jealous of your husband! When is he due back from Italy?

@MrsNT I've been drinking it for around a week now, I saw on Google it was OK from 32 weeks so started drinking it then. I really like it so don't mind drinking it for a long time. I've upped to 2 cups a day the past couple days, because I've got a really sore throat and find it quite soothing (especially with being unable to take a lot of meds)

Prema112 · 23/04/2022 18:30

@MrsNT I took raspberry leaf tablets from 34 weeks last time and will do the same this time (more like 35 weeks as they come in an
Amazon order on Monday!)

@Octoblockisadick So sorry you're feeling rubbish, it's bad enough having all the pregnancy pains without illness on top of it!

@JAR1981 I'm dreaming of gelato now... 🤤

I feel a bit sad as we seem to have lost some past regular posters along the way (they don't come up when I try tag them) I wonder how they are and hope things are ok

C1ueless22 · 23/04/2022 18:47

@MrsNT I started drinking 1 raspberry leaf tea a day since 32 weeks. Will up this gradually towards the end of my pregnancy.
I quite like the taste but seem to feel a little nausea after with a mild headache but not sure if they are connected.

Brightsmoke · 23/04/2022 19:04

@MrsNT, same as @Octoblockisadick, I've been drinking it from 32 weeks. On 2 cups now at 34, and will add a cup a day every week from now on. It can't bring labour on, but there is a bit of research to say it quickens 2nd stage of labour, so it's not harmful however early on you drink it :)

Vimto1991 · 23/04/2022 19:11

Which raspberry leaf tea product do you guys recommend? Seems to be a ton on Amazon!

Octoblockisadick · 23/04/2022 19:14

@Vimto1991 I've got a clipper one, it was a pack of 6 boxes of 20 bags, so should last from now until baby comes hopefully. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07RK8LZZK?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share this is the link for the one I got. I've got a box in my draw and work, and the others at home for now.

InvisibleDragon · 23/04/2022 19:29

I have the strange aches around my belly / navel too. As the bump gets big, it starts to really push out our ab muscles from behind and they start to separate. I think this is what is causing my discomfort.

This is annoying because it means I have to start taking out a bunch of positions from my daily yoga, and it has been really helpful for back pain up until now. Sigh.

Vimto1991 · 23/04/2022 19:57

Thanks guys! Grabbed a pack coming tomorrow. :) heard it can allievate nausea, too which I keep getting throughout the day. :(

whilst cooking dinner I told DH my left boob was hurting, looked down and my shirt was a little bit wet! 😅 just the one nipple leaking at the moment but atleast that hopefully means I’m capable of producing milk! (My mom wasn’t)
