@paintfairy same as Captaincarp, I just went to the till at Argos, showed my code and they brought out the packs. There are a lot of leaflets (to be expected) but came with a free pack of nappies, free pack of wipes, sanitising gels, samples of milk bags and breast pads, sucrose cream and nipple creams. Ok, they’re small amounts, but you can “have” each pack twice, so actually, it’s a decent little haul, especially considering it’s free

SoMuch2Say · 29/04/2022 14:21

@Horsesforcourses23 I’ve got a similar plan to you, due on the 2nd July so am starting full time WFH start of June. What I’m struggling with at work is that in the meantime I’m expected to be 100% ‘on’ which is fine with my day to day role but I resent the extra curricular corporate activities outside of work hours or beyond the scope of my job. Normally I don’t mind/might even enjoy theses things but I’m so exhausted. Not sleeping, I’m uncomfortable and sort of want to be left alone to finish up on projects before I leave.

keep having to remind myself how lucky I am to even have the option of working from home, few years ago I’d be in full time until I went on mat leave. How did the pg ladies of the past do it!!!?

Hope3821 · 29/04/2022 15:33

@paintfairy, that's a good point I should check, especially if you're saying yours has the isofix too. Although I spoke with the hubby and he assured me we're getting a new car before bambina arrives, he's obviously got a money tree I don't know about 😂I'm glad I'm check our old car just in case.

KizboBaggins · 29/04/2022 17:52

@SoMuch2Say eww what kind of corporate activities are they making you do outside of work hours?! That would be an absolute no from me, regardless of whether I was pregnant or not. Forced fun is my idea of hell. Not saying I wouldn't enjoy doing activities with my colleagues, just not when it's mandatory lol

I agree with the WFH thing - it's so nice to have that option. I don't plan on doing full time WFH before maternity leave but it is nice knowing I can if I need to.

@CaptainCarp my work are yet to tell me who my replacement is... I have less than 9 weeks left at work to train them... 🙄

When does the third trimester technically start? Is it 28 weeks? Ive felt good up til now and always tell people that and say how lucky I am when they ask how I am, but I've had so many women say "oh that'll all change in the third trimester" so now I'm dreading it a bit

Coco9910 · 30/04/2022 08:17

My work haven’t even started looking for my cover yet. They have been looking to fill a role for the same position as I am that left in January and still haven’t found anyone yet. They know when I’m leaving, and I said it’s not my concern and I’m not fussed as if means I don’t have to train anyone 😅 but picking up all the extra work load has been tough, and I don’t think they appreciate that.

@KizboBaggins same, I’ve felt fine through out but do feel myself starting to get achey and tired and I’m 27+3. We have so much forced fun at work and I don’t have the energy for it 😅😅

missv556 · 30/04/2022 09:23

@KizboBaggins third trimester officially starts at 28 weeks. I'm 6 days in to it so far, no major change as of yet except a bit more hungry. And sorry if tmi but sex is becoming more difficult/uncomfortable in terms of moving/changing position due to the weight of bump.
Tbh I'm most worried at how much bigger I can possibly get cos this kid still has about 11 weeks of growth left and I read in my book yesterday that they can double or even triple in weight from now until birth 🙃 How we manage to carry them around I don't know lol

Confusion101 · 30/04/2022 09:34

Oh that means I'm officially 3rd trimester so. My app told me it was last week. 😅😅 No major changes yet but sleep is getting more uncomfortable

kiwi17 · 30/04/2022 10:45

I'm 30+1 today and I feel like a whale 🐋 I feel now like I did at 41 weeks with my first so I share the concerns about another 10 at least weeks to go feeling like this!! Definitely think the third trimester just made me feel heavier and more achey and now struggling to sit or lie comfortably. Have got my ball blown up though which is always nice to bounce around on 😂

KizboBaggins · 30/04/2022 13:45

@kiwi17 oo I don't have a blow up ball, but now I want one... is it comfy?

@missv556 I'm more hungry too! I mean, I was always greedy but it's definitely getting worse lol.... "Yes the baby definitely wants that second slice of Costco carrot cake" ...

And nah that's not TMI, it's good to know so I can prepare myself 😂

@Coco9910 I'm jealous if you don't have to train someone! My role was new when I started it, so I've made it completely my own and the thought of trying to articulate it to someone else fills me with dread

missv556 · 30/04/2022 13:57

I find myself thinking about what I'm gonna have for lunch as I'm eating breakfast 😂
I need to get one of those big blow up balls, I hear they are very comfortable towards the end. Think I saw one on argos website for £15

kiwi17 · 30/04/2022 13:59

@KizboBaggins it is actually, helps when I feel like the baby is sitting in a weird way and it's uncomfortable- it's a birthing ball I got from my SiL and I used it last time too- it's apparently good for helping baby to go head down and is supposed to help with making labour easier/quicker but who knows?! I was induced in the end last time but active labour 2as only 1 hr 1/2 so maybe 🤷‍♀️😂 I try and bounce on it regularly and it's fun too Haha

ShellUK09 · 30/04/2022 18:13

@kiwi17 ooh I really need a birthing ball! Just been placing an order on Boots as been talking to my mum today and she said I need to get on with packing my hospital bag just in case. Just made a panic order of maternity pads, spritz for bits, perineal spray bottle, large cotton wool pads, and some nice aveeno nappy cream for baby. Feel a bit better now I've ordered some practical items!

strawberrysummer19 · 30/04/2022 23:07

@ShellUK09 how far are you? I'm looking at doing my bag soon. I'm 28wks Tuesday.
That's a good list, I can't remember what I packed for my first as that was 10.5 yrs ago!!

We bought our pram today though so that's exciting. It's come home with us at the moment! Still boxed up in the car, may move to mother in laws house - does everyone keep their Pram elsewhere?

Also bought a prep machine £70 in Asda baby event

We need to sort where baby is sleeping in day
What is everyone else doing?
Before she's in a routine and goes upstairs for sleeps - for the newborn stages when she sleeps downstairs- what is everyone doing?
Had a Moses basket last time which I dragged upstairs each night (not doing that again) my baby nest came today but I don't like it
Too thin and it's so big doenst fit on the sofa and fiancé said it sleeps like a dog bed on the floor! So thinking maybe a small crib for daytime

X

Confusion101 · 30/04/2022 23:16

I've a moses basket for daytime naps and a crib in our bedroom for night time. Both gifted to us by family members. Wow are you thinking of packing a bag already? I'm in a little denial about it, 28 weeks too

ShellUK09 · 01/05/2022 07:39

@strawberrysummer19 i'll be 29 weeks tomorrow, although it still seems early to pack I know someone who had their baby at 28 weeks so packing the bag has been in the back of my mind! Ah really, sure it will come flooding back, I'm just using Google for tips of what to pack! I'm taking a small hand luggage suitcase so it feels like packing for a holiday, although I know it's no holiday! Exciting to get your pram 😊 which one did you go for? We practiced putting the pram up and down and have just put it folded in the hallway cupboard for now, the instructions were only pictures so it was slightly complicated initially! Need to get the car seat set up next. That's a bargain for the prep machine! Undecided about a Moses basket for living room as weare short on space, we may even use the pram cot like a Moses basket. I have seen a fisher price bassinet that also folds down flat which I might get but it is quite expensive for what it is... Lots to think about!

strawberrysummer19 · 01/05/2022 07:58

@ShellUK09 me too, and when my midwife said you are full time from 37 and baby could be early (hoping not too early!) I thought around 30wks is a good time to start. I won't pack but I will be getting bits here and there from now.
I too have a hand luggage style suitcase.

This is the pram - we did so much research
Really liked the ikkle bubba but ended up with this
The bassinet/seat is two in 2 and we loved that
My little one hardly used the bassinet - hated being lied flat so was in the seat area from 4months ish -

https://www.smythstoys.com/uk/en-gb/baby/pushchairs-and-strollers/prams-and-pushchairs/panorama-xt-by-babylo-2-in-1-travel-system-sea-green-and-car-seat/p/197055?utmsource=google&utmmmedium=organic&utmcampaign=surfacessacrossgoogle&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIpfznv9u99wIVkb7tCh0jIg-4EAQYAiABEgLmfPDD_BwE

For that pride and reviews good we shall get a stroller around 18months or so - so we didn't want to spend too much considering they may not be in it for long.

I won't get a Moses basket again
I had a large baby (9lb at birth) and she didn't really like it - after a few weeks kept hitting her hands on the side and completely outgrown at 10 wks so we need to find something similar but an alternative- still need to sort the upstairs cot still - undecided about that

Now it's just shopping around for the best deals as I've noted a lot of sales on
Boots 20% and Asda baby event etc so trying to be savvy and noticed that prices considerably vary a lot from place to place for the exact product!

ShellUK09 · 01/05/2022 09:55

@strawberrysummer19 yeah it is good to get prepared soon for peace of mind, but let's just hope we don't need it just yet. Honestly I feel like I spend all my time lately thinking of the next thing to buy or looking at online product reviews!

That's a nice pram set and you get a lot of accessories with it. Have you thought about a baby carrier or sling? I am tempted to get one, quite like the Ergobaby embrace carrier which seems to be a mix between sling and carrier, they are cheaper on Amazon but £69 still isn't that cheap.

I just said before I was undecided on a Moses basket, but someone on my estate has just posted on Facebook that they are giving away a brand new Moses basket for free, so was seriously tempted and going to collect that today and will use it for downstairs. If baby doesn't like it I've not lost anything! We got a tutti bambini cozee next to me crib for our bedroom, it's really nice and looks really comfy and cosy.

Yeah there's quite a few good baby events/sales on right now. Gap online have some lovely summer baby clothes in the sale 🙂

strawberrysummer19 · 01/05/2022 12:03

@ShellUK09 I know! I feel like that

I tried a sling with my first and I couldn't get on with it, my fiancé wants one this time around though.

That's a great idea, I may look on Facebook, we are going to have a look at cots today - smyths have some to look at and then will have a look on line. Yours looks great x

Lianna93 · 01/05/2022 12:18

@strawberrysummer19 I got similar travel system to you - we got the origin 😁 Built it up a few weeks ago & is now sitting under my stairs ready to go 😁

I have 9 weeks left & feel so unprepared it's unreal 😩
I'm off on annual leave very soon, so hoping to start washing all the baby clothes during that time & packing the hospital bag.
Think my baby box is due to arrive in a few weeks - very much looking forward to that 😁

Anyone else experiencing leg cramps? 🙈 Swear every morning I stretch I'm cramping now 😂
Baby also seems to favour lying under my ribs on the right hand side 🙄😂 But I am absolutely loving feeling her poking out - forever rubbing my stomach now 😂

kiwi17 · 01/05/2022 12:36

@ShellUK09 I had a stretchy wrap with my first which was my favourite thing ever, I also had a woven wrap and a soft carrier (connecta) she moved into as she got older - I honestly preferred them to the pram and we barely used our pram after she turned one! Just so much easier than manoeuvring a bulky pram around and great for walks in the countryside too. My advice though is to buy them second hand there are lots of groups on Facebook where people sell them it's much more cost effective 👍

ShellUK09 · 01/05/2022 18:02

@strawberrysummer19 hope you had a good look about at cots today. We picked up the Moses basket this afternoon, she also gave us the rocking stand for free with it even though that wasn't on the advert, really chuffed! It's totally unused as she used to have her own baby shop and this was old stock.

@kiwi17 yeah we do a lot of beach walks with the dog so a sling or carrier will be useful, instead of trying to use a pram on the beach! Will check out Facebook thanks and will see if I can find another bargain.

@Lianna93 I have felt occasional leg cramps in bed, it seems to happen early in the morning and when I'm feeling a bit dehydrated. I just try to drink enough but I'm always up through the night without fail. I love feeling and seeing the movements now too!

Mattieandmummy · 01/05/2022 19:05

I'm planning to wait until bump has arrived before buying a sling. Our first hated the sling we bought and we ended up selling it and going to a sling library and trying out various ones. I'd really really recommended a sling library, our one did long term loans.

I'll probably just use the buggy basinet for day naps although I'm not going to be at all surprised if we end up with naps on me or in a sling like our first. 🙄

Lianna93 · 01/05/2022 20:16

@ShellUK09 My friend suggested ready salted crisps & isotonic water - she said it helped her with the cramps 🤔

I've purchased a carrier that I got from Smyths because I like doing a lot of walks in woodland areas but I'll get a sling with my baby box so will no doubt figure out what will work best 😊

missv556 · 02/05/2022 09:17

I brought a carrier and my friend very kindly gave me a sling that she never used with her little boy when she had him last year so I get to try both and see which one we get on with best.

Had a small freak out yesterday, turned 29 weeks and then it dawned on me that 29 is almost 30 and that this child is COMING!!! In 10ish weeks I'll have a baby! A real life baby that I am entirely responsible for. Like yeah I've got pretty much everything physically needed but I feel so not ready for this mentally lol not ready for birth in the slightest, done zero reading, no antenatal classes, nada 🙃

NamelessBaby1 · 02/05/2022 12:08

@missv556 haha I'm also freaking out as I'll be 30 weeks on Friday and it all just seems so close now!

I've done half an online antinatal class though, and read the Positive Birth Book which I recommend as it didn't feel too 'heavy' (ie I got through it pretty quickly), and made me think about options I previously would just have dismissed.

I'd love to try a sling out, not sure if there is a sling library or anything in my area though and don't really want to spend too much on one if it doesn't work out!

I splurged a little on my travel system as I've managed to get so many other things second hand, and also my mum and gran both want to out towards the cost so that doesn't feel so bad, lol. I've got a second hand moses basket which I'll use downstairs for daytime naps, hopefully!
