@Mattieandmummy thanks for the dog walking advice. We have a 1yo wheatador and he's super energetic, I'm lucky I can give him 2 - 2 & 1/2 hours walking a day (3 different walks) and was worried how to manage it without neglecting him when the little one arrives. That's great advice thanks.
We're super lucky he goes out with a dog walker twice a week but we couldn't afford more. She said to get him used to the baby is to walk around with a big doll in our arms in the house, and to take him out with pram now. Haven't tried the pram yet, we just got it, but I'll definitely get some looks if I take a pram without a baby for a dog walk 🤣🐶

KizboBaggins · 10/05/2022 15:33

@Hope3821 I'm in exactly the same position with the amount of walks he's getting and worrying about having to cut it down when baby is here! I have a dog walker 3x a week at the minute (when I'm in the office) but will likely cut that down to one at the most when I'm on maternity. When I start my leave (3 weeks before due date) I'm going to try and push his first walk back a bit (currently 7am, aiming for 9am) and cut out the midday walk and just have a second early evening one. Hopefully this is a routine he'll be happy in when baby comes.

I'm also planning on starting the pram walks in the next few weeks... my neighbours are going to think I'm insane. I'll let you know if I get any comments 😅

I've honestly worried more about how the bloody dog is going to feel about all this than anything else during this pregnancy lol

strawberrysummer19 · 10/05/2022 15:47

So we are collecting our cot today from facebay
It's one of the first things I've bought second hand
I really don't mind second hand as long as I can clean it and no stains etc I've just not seen anything I like and bought most things so far at discounted prices / Amazon discount off etc - I found a cot immaculate condition as hardly used £138 RRp Mamas and papas for just £20 on facebay
Just need to get a mattress

Anyway it's all assembled so rather than store it away from the home is it bad luck to keep in the house?

I'm 29wks so still early but I saw it and didn't want to lose out

It's the downstairs day time cot so figured she will only be in it a short while as it's 0-6 months so just trying to be careful with money

We have her pram in the garage all boxed up

The upstairs sleeping one Im buying brand new

@strawberrysummer19 I don’t believe all that stuff about baby items in the house being bad luck but you do whatever you’re comfortable with. No one is going to judge you either way!

NamelessBaby1 · 10/05/2022 17:02

@Lianna93 that's a scary thought! I keep thinking 10 weeks is still ages away, but there is so much to do in that time, and with all the talk of people going from 37 weeks onwards then that really brings it very close!

@strawberrysummer19 I got our bedside cot second hand, just got the new mattress etc, but it's currently still unbuilt and in the cupboard lol. I also got a second hand moses basket type thing (more like a small rocking crib) for downstairs, and it's just sitting in my livingroom now as I don't know where else to put it! Our pram etc won't be arriving until around 4 weeks before due date.

I can understand not wanting things in the house in case you need to come back to deal with it all if things go wrong with the delivery, but at the same time I think it's better to be prepared than rushing around last minute , or trying to get things set up with the new baby already here! I'd have so much other stuff to deal with getting rid of at this point anyway I don't think a cot will add to the stress if the worst does happen.

ShellUK09 · 10/05/2022 17:06

@Lianna93 wow I know, I am 30 wks 1 day now. I can't believe it either, each week seems to fly now. Have you attended any antenatal classes yet? I have attended some on zoom that my hospital is running, everything feels really real now!

@strawberrysummer19 aah we have a lot of baby stuff in the house now, it was useful to try putting the pram together to practice putting it up and down and then just putting it back under the stair cupboard ready to use. Got the car seat out the box ready to go as well as you need that for the hospital and if baby comes early will need that at hand. I'm just constantly thinking of the next thing I need to do, I've entered a bit of a panic stage all of a sudden after feeling fairly relaxed all of the second trimester Confused

Confusion101 · 10/05/2022 17:42

I'm not a believer of having stuff in the house = bad luck!

What are the key things ye are buying? I feel so unprepared!! I have very little got but am determined not to buy too much shit either. Have a crib, changing unit, and the travel system.

strawberrysummer19 · 10/05/2022 17:51

Oh good! I'll put it straight in the baby's room
Then!
I'm not either to be honest I've other baby bits in the house too
I'm not usually superstitious I just thought I'd check on there what others are doing xx

Coco9910 · 10/05/2022 17:57

@Lianna93 that’s crazy that the next thread will see the babies start to arrive 🥺🥰 I won’t lie when I saw a “Due January 2023” thread it blew my mind!

@strawberrysummer19 that didn’t even cross my mind! We put the cot up a couple of weeks ago to make sure nothing was missing / broken and it’s remained in the nursery since 😅

Hope3821 · 10/05/2022 19:42

@KizboBaggins yeh I'm the same, worrying about how my dog will feel! 😅 my friend just had twins with a similar age puppy (1year) and said it actually calmed him down once the babies arrived 🤞🤞 we've switched up our pups walking times already, he seems to adapt fairly well so that's good.

I don't believe in the bad luck stuff, but defo do what's comfortable for you. In fact we just had a terrible weekend where our pram got delivered to the in-law's next door and she wouldn't let my hub bring it over to our house coz of her superstition. I spent all day crying thinking I wouldn't get my pram until the baby was here! We managed to talk to her and she's OK now and we finally have our pram! So nice to put it all together and practice with it well in advance, it helps with the whole transition for being a first time mum, I'm utterly delighted with it 💕

KizboBaggins · 10/05/2022 19:56

I've never even heard of having baby stuff in the house as being bad luck! It's probably a good job cause I just have everything piled in the "nursery"...

@Confusion101 I'm the same - so far I've got travel system, bouncer, changing unit. In-laws are buying the crib (very kind of them) and it'll be the only "new" thing we have. Everything else I've bought second hand and it's all in good condition tbf. Still waiting on a friend to give us their Next2Me crib. Obvs got clothes and starting to get nappies/pads etc.

I figure if we need anything else big there's always Amazon prime!

@Hope3821 that's good to hear that it calmed the dog down! Our boy is great in the house, very calm. But I'm conscious that's probably because he gets so many walks! Glad your pup has adjusted well to the walk time change. Gives me hope for mine!

@Lianna93 that is crazy... I'm not due until July 25th so feel like I'm gonna watch everyone else have their babies and be one of the last waiting for him to pop out lol

Confusion101 · 10/05/2022 20:05

@KizboBaggins I'm the end of July too. We'll be the only ones left 😂 hopefully we won't be left waiting until August 🙈

strawberrysummer19 · 10/05/2022 20:56

I'm due July 26th

Maybe we should start a diary!

Let's get this going - I'll start - feel free to copy and paste!

@strawberrysummer19 - July 26th

X

NamelessBaby1 · 10/05/2022 21:47

Ooh good idea :
@NamelessBaby1 - 15th July

(Although I fully expect to be later as FTM and both myself and sister were over a week late).

DayToNight · 10/05/2022 21:52

I'm due 21st July. Although my first was 2.5 weeks early.

Lianna93 · 10/05/2022 22:21

@strawberrysummer19 I was thinking the same thing but this thread is about to fill up so maybe need to start it on the new thread 🥰

Due July 2022 (thread 5) www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/4547144-due-july-2022-thread-5

New thread 🥰

Mattieandmummy · 11/05/2022 05:41

@Hope3821 I was given the same advice with whole doll thing and we did try it but tbh I think our dog just thought we were a bit nuts. But then it didn't smell, move or sound like a baby so ...... We might have as well carried around an aubergine for all she cared.

The one thing our dog has done which surprised us more than anything is to assume the title of one dog baby protection squad. She will literally physically block ( no aggression just kind of gets in the way) another dog from approaching our first which is normally fine as the other dog gets the message and isnt really interested in a toddler anyway. The only time we have to be careful is when our first has a snack in her hand as our dog seems to think she has to protect the snack and small person from other dogs and can be aggressive. I don't know how to solve that one so she's on the lead when food is around and we're out. Anyway I thought I would mention it as other people have told me they had exactly the same problem with their dog.

Hope3821 · 11/05/2022 10:36

Thanks so much @Mattieandmummy . Haha yes I wondered about that, I reckon our pup will just think the doll is a new toy for him so we might just leave it out 😅 wow I guess you can't tell how a dog will react, so we'll just have to take it as it comes. If his personality is anything to go by he won't care anyway unless he's getting treats or walks, that's all he wants anyway 😅

MollyRover · 18/05/2022 10:27

How's everyone doing? Just fixed my last day of work as the 3rd of June this week, can't come sooner. I'm exhausted completely and feel like I have no time to focus on myself and the baby so decided to take a week's holiday before my official leave starts since there's a bank holiday that week too. DH is off so we're going have some quality time together, aswell as spend quality time with DC1. I've a suspicion that DC2 will be early, bump is very low and DC1 was also 2 weeks early. Feel like I'll need some extra time to get both my sht and the baby's sht together 😅
