@HotToddyColdSauvignon Grin buy as much as you want! It’s all so cute but for reference I had about half of that in size 0-3 and it was fine, probably had the washing machine on every other / every third day.

It’s easy to buy more at the time if you feel you need them plus you’ll probably be gifted more when baby arrives.

Coco9910 · 19/04/2022 07:20

@strawberrysummer19 glad everything’s okay! It’s such a worry but glad you got seen so quickly!

@HotToddyColdSauvignon you are very organised!! I honestly think we have about 5 baby grows so far but going to buy nearer the time when we have a rough idea on the size of the baby 😂 better to have too many than not enough, though!

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 19/04/2022 07:32

@Coco9910 it’s less organisation and more “ooops I’d forgotten I’d already bought 2 packets of those and put them away….”

Haha! I got a pile of second hand stuff from a friend at the weekend, so combined with what I'd already bought I think I'm off to a good start for clothes now. It's so hard to know though, especially for first sizes!

Also wondering how many nappies I should have for the first few weeks and all the other stuff (wipes/nappy bags etc). I'm not very good at forward planning!

kiwi17 · 19/04/2022 20:45

@NamelessBaby1 I seem to remember my DH doing a boots/asda run on day two post birth to pick up extra bits so I shouldn't worry too much! As long as you have a pack of newborn nappies, couple of packs of wipes as you may want a pack upstairs and downstairs and maybe same for nappy bags (although we had an angel care nappy bin so didn't use the bags at home) you should be fine :)

I'm on the countdown to mat leave - part time teacher leaving at half term when I'll be 36 weeks and I've only got 15 working days left! 😁

kiwi17 · 19/04/2022 20:47

Oh and forgot to say you may want to get breast pads- whether breastfeeding or not I think you'll leak to start with. I had disposables to start with but changed over to washables after a bit as I breastfed for the first 15 months and it was cheaper 😂

Coco9910 · 20/04/2022 07:00

@kiwi17 how exciting!! 15 days doesn’t sound like much at all!! I too am on the countdown but I think mine is 45 working days left before I finish, and I have used 4 weeks annual leave before my maternity leave starts!

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 20/04/2022 08:21

Ohhhhh @kiwi17 15 days!, I’m so jealous!

I’ve got 8 Mondays left (which seems farrrrrrr too long)

kiwi17 · 20/04/2022 08:56

Haha I know! The bonus of still being part time after my first (although we don't talk about the maternity pay only being based on that part time contract 😂)

missv556 · 20/04/2022 10:49

Anyone had a visit from a health visitor yet? I've just been contacted and will meet mine on Friday. It says from 28 weeks (which I will be in 3 days) but just seems a bit early

KizboBaggins · 20/04/2022 10:54

@kiwi17 ahh that's amazing! I just counted how many days I have and I'm regretting it lol I have over 50 working days left 😭

@missv556 that seems very early! My midwife hasn't even mentioned a HV coming round. Did they say what they are checking?

Tbh I didn't even realise they come round before the baby is here. Maybe your area is just very organised!

missv556 · 20/04/2022 11:02

@KizboBaggins my midwife hadn't mentioned anything either. It was all very out of the blue and vague tbh so I don't have too much information. She wanted to come over tomorrow morning but I have a growth scan at the hospital. I'm a FTM so I literally had no idea about anything like this

KizboBaggins · 20/04/2022 11:05

@missv556 Christ they're keen aren't they! Please let us know how it goes. I'm a FTM too and part of me is worried about HV because we have an 18month old labrador (who is very well behaved) and I'm convinced they're going to make some comment about bringing a new born into a house with a large breed dog... and I'm bound to get angry if they say anything remotely negative about him 😂

KizboBaggins · 20/04/2022 11:21

Ooo I just remembered I wanted to ask everyone if you have any "must do" things before the baby is born?

I'm looking for inspiration!

Not necessarily related to baby but more things like going for nice meals out, spending time with current DC if you have any, taking uninterrupted naps, staying up past 11pm 😂

deliwoman1 · 20/04/2022 11:31

@kiwi17 your post about mat leave excited me! I'm part-time in education too, and worked out I have just 18 days to go. It actually translates to another six weeks for me but hey, I like the sound of 18 days!

@HotToddyColdSauvignon you've inspired me to buy more short sleeved, short-legged things! I'm getting a big donation of clothes from my sis, but it's occurred to me that my nephews were autumn & a winter babies, so she probably won't have much summery stuff in small sizes. I've only got 3 short-sleeved bodysuits, and 3 vests. I'll get a few rompers too just in case.

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 20/04/2022 11:34

@KizboBaggins DH and I trying to plan in some nice things - day trips, touristy things that you never end up doing usually, a few nice dinners (whilst I stare longingly at the oysters on the menu, humph)

As for long uninterrupted sleeping at night…. I’ve been getting up to the use the loo every 2.5 hours for the last couple of months

SamanthaVimes · 20/04/2022 11:46

@KizboBaggins me and DH are going to get in some cinema trips while we can. If DC2 is anything like DD was feeding wise it’ll be months before leaving her long enough to watch a decent movie without her will be an option without my boobs wanting to pop (she was a snacker!)

KizboBaggins · 20/04/2022 13:38

@HotToddyColdSauvignon touristy things is a nice idea! There's definitely some local stuff I've never got round to doing which we could look into.

And apologies for bringing up uninterrupted sleep! What week are you on now? I think I've been lucky I haven't woken up for a wee during the night much during this trimester. I'm only 26+2 though so there's time yet!

@SamanthaVimes cinema is a good shout! Although we went a few weeks ago and I sat uncomfortably for 2hrs and ate an entire large popcorn, drank a large full fat drink and ate a large pick and mix so not sure I can trust myself to go back again...

NotAsOldAsIFeel · 20/04/2022 14:53

Hi all, I've been looking for a 'due July 2022' thread for a while now but have only just found you!

@KizboBaggins I have a running list in a notepad on my phone for things I want to get done before my due date, such as stock the freezer with batch cooking, batch cook a load of snacks for DD1, get some house insulation quotes ready before next winter, get the garden back into recognisable state, buy a double buggy, various DIY jobs, use up a cinema voucher, etc. My list keeps growing and somehow, while I don't feel up to most of it atm as I'm recovering from covid, I feel like I'll be able to when I'm even more pregnant than I am now... 😆 Any other lists going? I love a good list so inspiration is welcome here too!

KizboBaggins · 20/04/2022 15:01

@NotAsOldAsIFeel welcome! Yes I seem to have loads of phone lists going somehow! Similarly I have a "DIY" type one, a "must buy before baby" type one (which is naturally a list of stuff I probably don't need...)

Batch cooking is a good prep one to do! I'm ending work 3 weeks before due date so hoping I get some done then. How old is your DD1?

I'm also tempted to hire a cleaner for a one off deep clean just before baby comes... although there's no reason I couldn't do it myself right now except sheer laziness

NotAsOldAsIFeel · 20/04/2022 15:19

@KizboBaggins DD1 is 17months atm and will be 20 when baby arrives. She's still not interested in walking though, so definitely can't do without the buggy just yet, even for a short distance.

Oooh a cleaner would be amaaaazing, but yes I'm in the same boat as you haha. I enjoy it when I get into it, but making time for it as well as looking after a 17mo is a little tricky. Plus my DH is doing an open uni degree so had no spare time either. Ah well, I'll open the windows and let the wind blow the cobwebs away instead!

kiwi17 · 20/04/2022 15:34

@deliwoman1 always count in days not weeks 😂 although I have to get y11 through their gcse first so actually 15 days isn't long for that!

With regards to health visitor, I remember mine coming for an initial visit before DD1 was born but I thought it was closer to the due date maybe 36 weeks? I seem to remember her running through things like safe sleeping, feeding and any questions I had about post birth. She also gave me info on baby classes run by the local authority childrens services and the first bookstart pack I think although that may have been the first visit after birth.

annie1994 · 20/04/2022 17:04

Similar to @kiwi17 i remember the HV calling me around 36/37 weeks pregnant - he was a lockdown baby so loads was still over the phone! She spoke about safe sleeping, tummy time, feeding etc. She also asked a bit about me and my social situation like who I live with etc!

KizboBaggins · 20/04/2022 18:59

@NotAsOldAsIFeel well you definitely have much more of an excuse not to deep clean than I do! 20 months is a lovey age gap!

We have DSS who is 12, which felt like an easy age gap because he's (fairly) self sufficient by this point, however he seems to be hitting all the tween/teenage drama already so we've got all that plus newborn exhaustion at the same time to look forward to 😅

@kiwi17 @annie1994 that actually sounds pretty helpful from the HV, I'm hoping they'll be able to give me some pointers too! I didn't even know that tummy time was a thing until I joined this thread lol.

CaptainCarp · 20/04/2022 19:36

@kiwi17 & @deliwoman1 I'm just a bit jealous of your short amount of time at work before maternity! Although I've also got to train my replacement & there doesn't seem much time for that!

I've got 9.5 weeks left if i leave the week before my due date which is the current plan.

@missv556 no call from a HV here, that seems really early.

I've had to call the diabetes team today as I've had 2 high post-breakfast readings so I've got to start on a dose of metformin at breakfast. Its already a pain in the arse this diabetes.

I'm not even counting how many bodysuits I've got in 0-3 months.. My friend gave me a load & I'd brought a couple of packs I thought looked cute Blush

Only got a few newborn items though so I'm sure it'll balance out.
