@MrsTwentyNine My husband and I are reading "The book you wish your parents had read" by Philippa Perry. It's quite quick to get through and a lot of it is nice and reassuring. She basically encourages you not to stress about all the little things cos they don't really matter and to focus on building a good emotional bond with your child.

JAR1981 · 06/03/2022 15:06

@imhereforthecake firstly those people should p off! No one has a right to comment on your bump size unless you ask for an opinion. Your bump looks lovely and everyone’s size varies. It looks similar to mine and I’m just a couple of weeks ahead of you at 27+1. Here’s mine from yesterday.

I don’t have scales but had gained 3kg at my 24 week midwife appointment. So I guess a bit more now. I’m trying to eat healthy but have become a bit of a sugar monster. Trying not to let it stress me out there’s plenty enough other things to worry about!

For those interested in the Positive Birth Company Hypnobirthing I just got a link to give you the pregnancy pack, hypnobirthing and post partum pack for £50 - normally £150 for all of it and it's on £5 more than the £45 for the hypnobirthing alone. For anyone who wants the link it's:

fpeg · 06/03/2022 16:07

And @imhereforthecake your bump looks perfect so please ignore those imbeciles! I had this a couple of weeks ago, someone telling me that I looked full term 😳 complete bollocks but it still took me back for a moment. These people don't have a clue and often don't have children and I had to bite my tongue not to tell her to f*ck right off! Grrrrrr

Prema112 · 06/03/2022 16:23

@imhereforthecake I'm getting the opposite people saying my bump is small, I think they think it's a compliment but I've always been worried the baby is small so I don't want to hear my bump is small! I wish people r would just not comment on bump size at all!!

Prema112 · 06/03/2022 16:24

Your bump looks great, as does yours @JAR1981. We are all different shapes and sizes. I'm quite tall so I suppose my bump looks smaller, I'll be happy to have the bump measurement at 28 week appointment next week

This is brilliant!! Thanks a lot @fpeg just ordered!

PleaseSendNoodles · 06/03/2022 18:03

Agreed with the others, @imhereforthecake - your bump looks great! And yours @JAR1981 (also love the style of your bedroom but I realise that sounds totally creepy 🤣)

I’m the same as @Prema112 as we’ve discussed before. On the ‘smaller’ side but baby is measuring fine so I wish people would shut up about it. I think they just want something to say…

Thanks so much for the link, @fpeg that’s great!

unknownscot · 06/03/2022 18:23

Funnily enough I've just had a bit of a discussion about commenting on bumps with my sisters and mum. They keep telling me I'm huge and what will I be like in May/June.

Totally I told them I don't appreciate the comments and perhaps they could change their wording to something more considerate like "you're looking great", "bumps coming along nicely"

I got told in some other way that im too sensitive and the worlds going mad.

🙄

I fought my corner but had to eventually shut up as I thought I might cry.

Octoblockisadick · 06/03/2022 18:32

@imhereforthecake and @JAR1981 your bumps look perfect. Similar size to mine I think.
However - I feel like my bump is getting smaller!! I don't know if I'm being silly and it's the clothes/ angle I'm taking my pictures but it seems smaller or at least not getting bigger!
I'm 26 weeks and measured my bump with a tape measure, using the technique from my maternity notes and it came as 22cm. I've gained 7kg between 10 and 26 weeks I think.
Baby is still moving tons and no other concerns. I've had people at work say they can even see baby moving through my clothes if I've got a clingy top on haha.

Has anyone got any tips to monitor movement? My MW said babies do 50 minute sleep/ wake cycles. So I understood this as we should feel something every hour ? Or is that not right...
I've been making myself paranoid all day but bubba then does something and I'll calm down haha

CurryandSnuggle · 06/03/2022 19:08

Ignore people. Honestly I had one random woman 2 weeks before my due date exclaim “You’re HUGE.. are you having twins? You’re massive!” I said “no, just one”, she said “they’re going to be a big baby then!”. No, I had one baby and he was 7lbs 3oz. So rude and scary for a new mum.

I am carrying different this time, even more all on the front, nothing on the sides. I keep getting comments about being massive but I’m pretty sure my bump is within normal parameters and I am not concerned.

My advice: ignore them because if there was concern about your bump size, your midwife would let you know!

BunBun221 · 06/03/2022 19:34

Feeling the comments about a 'huge bump'. I had an 'Advanced Care Practitioner' comment numerous times on how I look much further along than I am.

I'd like to point out that I tried to get a GP appointment as I had oral thrush and needed medicine and ended up with an Advanced Care Practictioner who I'm half convinced was not medically trained. Our appointment was also 40 mins late and she really smelled of cigarettes.

She kept questioning if everything was progressing normally and if the hospital had definitely checked I'm not having twins. She kept repeating that I have a very large bump and that I look about 2 months further along than I am.

Luckily my OH was with me, so he witnessed first hand yet another really awkward interaction with the NHS in this pregnancy! It's happening so often now I feel like you couldn't make in up!

InvisibleDragon · 06/03/2022 19:50

My bump is odd shaped - the top of my stomach sticks out almost as much as my belly, so even though I've got a lot bigger, I don't really look pregnant!

My bump update… 27+2

CurryandSnuggle · 06/03/2022 20:05

(Bra is too small already grrr… just ordered another lol).

Prema112 · 06/03/2022 20:28

My apparently tiny bump 🙄

Prema112 · 06/03/2022 20:29

Gorgeous bump @CurryandSnuggle!

unknownscot · 06/03/2022 20:31

All the photos are great and just goes to show how different bump sizes are 😘

imhereforthecake · 06/03/2022 21:01

Thank you all so much for the replies.
I think being pregnant can feel a bit lonely so it's nice having you all when you understand.
Lovely to see all the bump photos too!

Octoblockisadick · 06/03/2022 21:18

Loving all the bump photos!
And it goes to show they are all relatively similar sizes despite some people being told they are huge and others tiny.

hellointhere · 06/03/2022 21:45

@RoseValleyRambles we are about the same! I'm 24 weeks and 1 day today, feeling lots of movements and also have a very wonky looking line up my belly. I had no idea it could be wonky I assumed it would be straight down the middle but no! I think for me the strangest movements I feel is when they kick me in the side! I really don't quite understand how much room they're taking up in there.

I am taking down notes from you all on how and what to pack, but I'm not sure I'll be doing it any time soon.

I'm also very interested in the hypnobirthing course I think I might go for it.

I have been reading a Montessori baby book and they talk about a baby bed being just a thin bed on the floor, no crib as such, is anyone else considering this?

CurryandSnuggle · 06/03/2022 21:49

@Prema112 thank you 🥰 so is yours! Definitely not small, completely normal and looks really cute 😍

Aww all these bump updates are getting me excited. Not far off seeing our babies now really ❤️

mrkb · 06/03/2022 22:18

Oh my goodness I've been so busy and can't believe how much I've missed. Love seeing everyone's bumps and so reassuring - I've been feeling very disconnected from my body recently and not too happy but it looks like we're all similar sizes even if we're different shapes which makes me feel a bit better about mine which seems to change shape every hour!

@hellointhere can I ask what Montessori book you're reading? I've managed to find a forest school nursery which we might want to send baby B to when she's 1 and I'm really interested in the whole Montessori/forest school ethos! Would love to read about Montessori-style parenting. I've also just ordered the follow up Emily Oster book about when the baby's actually here as I really liked 'Expecting Better'

Somethings completely taken over my recently and I now spend all my spare time focusing on the baby! Finally bought some clothes, organised some draws for her, been looking up nurseries (there are horror stories about insane waiting lists where we live so don't want to lose out as I'm planning on returning to work full time) and researching prams/car seats/any/everything!!

Rolledthedice · 07/03/2022 01:34
