@GrowBabyGrow I followed the instructions on my scan letter to a tee. (Drink 1-2 pints in the hour before your appointment and do not use the toilet) ... and my bladder was not full enough! I got told off. 😅

I'd advise that you fill 'er up. If you're too full, you can always ditch some when you get there!

P.S. my useless boss hasn't yet submitted my "I'm pregnant" letter to HR (which I gave to him on December 12th!)

So, my files haven't yet been updated to say I go on mat leave this June.

I have decided to optimise on this... And I have now booked annual leave for my last week! 😅 Take THAT.

Have you had a pregnancy risk assessment done? @PeeAche

PeeAche · 09/02/2022 16:56

@DaimDillyDoo

Nope!

I do intend to chase all of this up now. But not before my boss unwittingly approves my annual leave. 😅

@PeeAche I work for the NHS and my "I'm pregnant letter" hasn't been passed to HR OR a risk assessment done either...I handed mine in at the end of November 🙄 what is with some managers...

Olive60 · 09/02/2022 17:05

@growbabygrow honestly I don't know how I didn't wee myself Monday. So happy when a lady asked the receptionist if she could go as she was bursting. She yes its fine they'll scan you either way they don't want you to be uncomfortable. So I ran and emptied it slightly and still rushed to the loo after the scan!

Olive60 · 09/02/2022 17:10

Is anyone set on names already!?

I had one name for a boy which isn't really popular or well known here but ive heard it alot more recently! I was really heartbroken to not get to use it with having a girl until I remembered watching an American TV series when I was a teen where one of the main girl characters had the name (more so a nickname instead of her real name though!). Cue me typing "welcome to the world (name) ..." into Facebook to find quite a few baby girls in America with it so I think we're sticking!! I love it and can imagine calling after her in my head when she's running about!

PeeAche · 09/02/2022 17:53

We have basically zero names. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I thought this would stress me out a lot more than it really does.

I'm hoping to find out the sex at my 20-weeks-scan-take-two and that'll halve the workload. 😅

@Olive60 yep we have a name picked out, it's been with us since fairly early on and we both like it. We both use it when talking to her. A little niggle in my brain says "you never know until you see them though" so it's still a watch this space 😁

unknownscot · 09/02/2022 18:14

@PeeAche @pregnancydiaries
Sorry but I would 100% refuse to work in this current climate without a risk assessment.
My management weren't forthcoming with it and I just said it's my legal right and I won't work without it.

MrsNT · 09/02/2022 18:23

@peeache just read the above posts. I definately agree you should speak to HR
My midwife said work have to legally allow time for appointments and should not stop you from goinf
Add in a few words in the email like the unsupportive environmenr is creating stress for you etc and discriminating you.that will make them back down

Prema112 · 09/02/2022 19:03

@Olive60 Argh names! We've had our girl name for 6 years since we picked our sons name and now we are having another boy it's tough to find one we love as much as our sons...

Vimto1991 · 09/02/2022 19:59

We have a list of maybe names but nothing we’ve both settled on. Anything I like DH dislikes, and he’s bad at thinking of names. 🙈 when we’ve finally settled on one, something makes us think ‘nah not that’, two instances we’ve known someone with that name. One name is our friends moms name and the other was going to be my friends daughters name but she changed it slightly as her friend had a kid with that name. 🙈 when you get to 30/31 and chose names based on ‘do I know someone with that name’, it makes it so difficult haha!
On the show married at first sight someone named their baby ‘Baby’. the more pregnant I get without choosing a name the more I can relate to her 🤣🤣 may just let the baby have no name for the first few days and decide when they’re here.

GrowBabyGrow · 09/02/2022 20:01

Thanks all for the advice re full bladder or not. No helpful guidance on my scan letter so think I will err on the side of full-ish. The sonographer rooms have toilets so if it's too full I guess I can go!

I'm torn on names. The one we had our heart set on for boy or girl has become really popular recently and I don't want it to seem like we picked a trendy name. It's Rowan which we wanted because we both love nature and love the tree! So feels a bit like back to the drawing board

GrowBabyGrow · 09/02/2022 20:02

We could still use it as a middle name I guess

Jammymare · 09/02/2022 20:09

@PeeAche sorry your boss is being unsupportive, I’m having similar troubles. I wanted to use annual leave to reduce my hours for the last month, so drop to three days a week, but because there still isn’t maternity cover appointed my request has been declined. I did try and explain that I was trying to prevent myself being signed off sick by pre-emptively phasing my work stress down, and that there’s every chance I might have to bring my mat leave forwards from my due date, but it’s like I’m speaking a different language. I think my boss is in denial that I’m not actually going to be at work in 4 months time

Lostintranslatio · 09/02/2022 20:12

Our baby has a name. It is a name I always liked and thought it would be my daughter's name. But I still keep calling her Baby 😂😂😂 It feels odd to call her by the name when I havent even seen her 😂😂😂

I never sent a letter in work about my pregnancy. I just gave a call to HR and my managers.

CurryandSnuggle · 09/02/2022 20:13

@Olive60 I really like Ruby. I keep imagining calling after her. And sounds quite good with my sons name, Max.

pregnancydiaries · 09/02/2022 20:19

Ruby and Max are really cute together @CurryandSnuggle

Vimto1991 · 09/02/2022 20:23

@Jammymare I feel you on this. No one hired to cover me, I’m getting stressed at work when my workload hasn’t gone up (I blame hormones), and imagine the closer I get the more stress I’ll be under. It’s like they are in denial as well. Mid April I’m taking Mondays off through to June, my request is still pending but I’m hoping it gets approved eventually. 😫 I hope you are able to contact HR and tell them about your annual leave request and hopefully they can turn the denial around.

Prema112 · 09/02/2022 20:43

@GrowBabyGrow My nephew is called Rowan, it's such a cute name!

CurryandSnuggle · 09/02/2022 22:06

@pregnancydiaries aww thank you ❤️

@GrowBabyGrow I haven’t heard many Rowan’s, I think it’s a lovely name 🥰

BunBun221 · 09/02/2022 22:25

@Jammymare that is actually 100% discrimination and you should get advice on it from citizens advice or to raise to your hr department. You are being unfairly treated solely because you are pregnant and will be going on maternity if they would approve another person's holiday at the same time

Rolledthedice · 09/02/2022 22:26

@CurryandSnuggle I agree Ruby and Max go well together - lovely names! :)

@GrowBabyGrow funny you should say that as my friend just had a little boy called Rowan! I also love nature names, and I’m half Irish so looking at Celtic ones too.
