Hey ladies I really hope you have your babies before induction. I'm relived I didn't have any of this. I had our baby 6 weeks ago so I feel like I'm on a different topic completely. Ive come on here today to have a little chat about breast feeding. Basically I feel like my boobs hurt and are engorged but enough milk don't come out. I feel like the baby is flagging a dead horse whsn I give him a boob! Lol 😭😭😭😭😭. He drinks his formula like there's no tomorrow after a breast feeding session!? I think he gets some milk from me but not alot. On the verge of giving it up. Plus it makes me so tired, thirsty. I'm resting and eati g load but I don't feel like I warrant a nap in day and extra calories cos there's not enough milk! I'm completely exhausted. I feel embarrassed saying I'm tired because all I should be doing is feeding. And even that Is hard. I've tried every opportunity at breast, power pump last night, all the right foods and herbs, rest, water. I'm not sure what else to do. I really don't want to give BF up. I love the closeness we share. Can anyone help make me? X

I can finally say.. 41+4 we went into labour at 3am, was 8cm by 7 am and little Dylan was born via caesarean at 15:37 8lb 10oz.

Can’t wait to join you ladies in the post natal club when I can grab myself two minutes 😂

Scotti84 · 23/09/2021 20:37

@Sillysocks998 I can totally relate. I love breastfeeding, her little face and crazy smiles, but my god I feel like I do nothing else. I worry im nor producing enough, sometimes she feeds, falls asleep for 5 mins then wakes up n wants more and I worry that i won't be able to produce more quick enough for the next time she's hungry. Sometimes I wake up and my boobs are full, hard and painful and I can pump quite a bit (for DHs night shift and to ease the pain) but some days they don't fill that much at all. My midwife said the more I feed and pump the more I'll produce so I'm just trying to feed or pump as regularly as I can and hope over a few days it improves. I'm always thirsty too, and knackered and I feel bad for DH cos I know it looks like I'm just sat there n he has to do the housework etc. I'm planning to keep on keeping on until she's old enough for some kind of routine and see how it is then, I have bought some ready made bottles of formula though just incase. Youre not alone in this, it's not easy and not at all how i thought it would be. In the hospital the nurse weighed Lilly before and after a feed to see how much she had drank, you could try that if you have baby scales?

Sillysocks998 · 23/09/2021 20:53

@Scotti84 thanks for replying. It's helpful knowing lots of women face similar issues. I think it's keeping up the supply when he's really hungry. That's when I feel shit. Plus it's so hard to keep eating all the time. I'm naturally petite but I still look 20 weeks pregnant. I'm constantly eating, feeling crap about milk supply and exhausted. My mums been with me thi sweek and she has been doing lots of nappy changes and burping for me. She has also got up in the night to help me whilst my hubby sleeps next door just so one of us can feel abit fresher. Not sure if you have any other help? I know it'll be for a short time until weaning. But I too love the giggles, smiles and noises when he's drinking and happy. Please mother nature, help us out 🙏💕. Just keep putting baby to breast and perhaps like they say baby will do all the work. Goodluck keep me posted x

@FTEngineerM massive congratulations!! Hope your c-section recovery is going well and you're getting plenty of rest.

Jary6 · 24/09/2021 05:06

@FTEngineerM congratulations to you and Dylan.

My road wasn't so great, I was basically in labour at home all day Thursday. My contractions were so random increasing and decreasing in time apart but always 1m long. I was in agony and phoned midwife at 10pm who said I had to be 3-4 mins apart before going in.

Ended up with my husband delivering our baby in the living room 8 mins before the paramedics arrived.

Just about to leave the hospital now and go home so Baby Oliver was born at 23:45pm last night at 7lb 1oz all natural at home by my husband who did an amazing job. 💙

FTEngineerM · 24/09/2021 06:36

so pleased you went into labour naturally @Jary6 and glad you’re all well, congratulations

Thank you so much @PineappleSun ☺️ I'm excited now! Xx

marshmallowmode · 24/09/2021 07:56

Massive congrats @MrsTD88 (original due date buddy!), @FTEngineerM and @Jary6!

I had pains and tightenings from 3pm yesterday that turned into proper contractions at 1.30am. They were averaging 3 mins apart and a minute long, not super painful but enough to need to breathe through them. Then they just stopped. Like completely stopped. So now I have no idea what to think! Is this baby coming or not? 😅

MrsTD88 · 24/09/2021 08:07

You amazing woman @Jary6 congratulations!!

@marshmallowmode thank you lovely. Oh hopefully baby is preparing for their arrival any day now 💛

Hopefulmummie · 24/09/2021 08:42

bluemagicalsky · 24/09/2021 09:01

Congratulations @FTEngineerM & @Jary6 ❤️

SillyBry · 24/09/2021 11:00

@FTEngineerM congratulations!! I love the name - I think we’d have had a Dylan if it was a boy!

@Sillysocks998 you poor thing. I have to say I’m finding breastfeeding so much less stressful the second time around. I put so much pressure on myself first time. This time, I’m just going with the flow more.
Topping up with formula can cause a bit of a cycle as baby takes less boob, so you produce less milk, which means they take more formula - and require less you from you, so you produce less. And so it goes on.

kellymom.com/ages/newborn/nb-challenges/decrease-formula/

The kellymom website above is really helpful if you want to try and fight the “top up trap”. But equally, whatever you decide to do, you’ve not failed. You’ve breastfed and given baby so many important antibodies for 6 weeks. That’s not failing!

For me, boob is easier than bottle as i can whip it out anywhere with no prep… but I was less in love first time round when my nipples were shredded and I cried at every feed! The health visitor said to me yesterday “unfortunately there is nothing you can sell or advise a first time mum to give them the natural confidence that a repeat mum has”. I know that’s not especially helpful to you… but I wish I’d known I wasn’t alone in all the self doubt and worry first time around! I guess what I’m saying is that whatever you decide to do, take confidence in your decision as you’re doing the best for you and baby!

Scotti84 · 24/09/2021 11:01

@Sillysocks998 i have literally no appetite atm, its so hard to eat! Never thought i'd say that! My midwife just brought me some tea that's supposed to help with milk production, they gave us it in the hospital, doesnt taste great but im giving it a go, i think this is a similar uk one www.amazon.co.uk/Neuners-Organic-Nursing-Herbal-Breastfeeding/dp/B01A775MWQ?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Its just me and hubby atm, hes got another 3 weeks off work so we have time to try and get a bit of a better routine. My family are in the uk, his family are 20 mins away but his sister has a 3 and 8 yr old who spend a lot of time with his mum n dad and weve told them until Lillys vaccinated we dont want to risk her picking up anything through the kids from school. Shes not listening to us unfortunately and turned up at 8pm a coupla nights ago, right on feeding time, which was brilliant... but thats another issue 🤦‍♀️

I woke up with really full boobs this morning so managed to feed and pump a fair bit, now theyre back to feeling empty again so back to the game of Will they be full in time for the next feed!
