@Bubbles1st @GWhiteley it is very strange! I might ask when I see them. They said some people have to test again at night too!! Glad I don’t have to do that.. 6 is plenty 🤦🏻‍♀️

GWhiteley · 17/06/2021 21:00

Maybe it's based on your readings form the glucose test? Not sure really but starting to get in the swing of it

bewitchingnight · 17/06/2021 21:01

Mine are the same as you @GWhiteley - 4 times a day, waking and then 1 hour after meals.

Had my first call today after the week of monitoring and basically nothing has changed really. Have to do the monitoring going forward until the end, have a growth scan in 4 weeks which was booked anyway and have another call from the diabetic midwife in three weeks but I can call her in the meantime if my results change or I have questions.

Sorry to hear that @Bubbles1st I would be upset too. Not long to wait until your scan at least x

AdventuresAwait · 17/06/2021 21:05

@CherLW, this page is good and talks about food pairing. So if I have apple I have it with peanut butter or strawberries with cheese as it says it helps.
www.gestationaldiabetes.co.uk/gestational-diabetes-snacks/

I have to test 6 times a day. Before meals and one hour after. About half my readings are high so think I'll be on insulin injections soon and really nervous about it. Worried I won't be able to do it.

Still no date for a growth scan or clinic appointment to meet the consultant. They said they weren't sure why I hadn't been given one and was probably missed. Three people now said they're chasing it up but nothing yet! Really want to talk to them.

GWhiteley · 17/06/2021 21:13

@AdventuresAwait @CherLW I mentioned that site to my dietician & she did say to definitely take it with a pinch of salt.

I've already got my growth scan booked for next Tuesday & then follow up calls the day after. So weird how things differ for all of us

AdventuresAwait · 17/06/2021 21:36

Yes I really don't understand how things can differ so much @GWhiteley. It's really strange! Even blood target range can be different depending on where you live. Or advice about birth even. Looks like I'll be needing to do some research into things so I can make informed choices.

Kirky658 · 17/06/2021 21:54

@cherlw hope you're feeling OK after your jab lovely. I felt rotten earlier and finished work early. Slept for an hour and feel fine now.

bluemagicalsky · 17/06/2021 22:20

@CherLW Fingers crossed for you! I had mine on Tuesday and all I had was a sore arm. Jealous of your fast track! I had to stand in a queue for 20 minutes, not a problem of course but a little bit of special treatment never goes a miss!

GWhiteley · 18/06/2021 04:48

Think I must have hit a world record just now. Cramp in 3 different places, 2 on 1 leg & 1 on the other all at the same time! God it's excruciatingly painful

Kirky658 · 18/06/2021 06:06

@bluemagicalsky likewise! @cherlw your lucky day I think haha

@gwhiteley ouch!

I had an awful sleep last night, the most bizarre unsettling dreams and just could not get comfy at all. Woken up with a bad neck, yay

CherLW · 18/06/2021 07:25

@Kirky658 @bluemagicalsky I was so shocked, they where all so lovely! I didn’t have to wait in line at all! I’ve woken up today feeling a bit sick and my arm is very sore but so far that’s all. Im going to go to work and see how it goes 🤞🏼.

@AdventuresAwait I’ve been reading about the food pairing…I’m trying as much as I can so hopefully it works out. My strawberries and full fat/protein yogurt worked out with no crazy high result! Woo!

AdventuresAwait · 18/06/2021 08:24

@CherLW, yay! May it continue to work for you!

CherLW · 18/06/2021 09:38

@AdventuresAwait I think I’ll just stick with what I’m doing and then hopefully when I next speak to the diabetes team they will be able to advise me further. I have a phone call with the dietician next week but nothing with the diabetes team until the 7th July 🤷🏻‍♀️

SillyBry · 18/06/2021 09:54

@CherLW I got the gold star treatment when I went for my jab too... I'll be very disappointed if I have to wait in line with all the normal people for my second jab! Haha!

I've just moved my 2nd jab forward as they will do it from 8 weeks now... decided I'd rather have it at 34 weeks than 38 weeks! Just in case I feel really rotten!

Well, the weather has changed here... 28 degrees to p**sing down rain overnight!! I was hoping to get out for some exercise today, but it's not looking all that appealing!
Off for my 28 week check with the midwife shortly... I always feel a bit anxious leading up to it, with the "what if" they can't find the heartbeat etc. I tell myself that worrying doesn't help, but I just wish pregnancy wasn't such guess work! ;-)

Kat1112025 · 18/06/2021 10:09

I had to wait in line for ages for my jab. Probably because I look more porky than pregnant 🤣

Kirky658 · 18/06/2021 10:43

@sillybry can I ask how you went about changing your second jab? I haven't got one booked yet, I'm wondering if i should just ring my gp

SP2Bx · 18/06/2021 11:11

That's my GTT done this morning - whoever said the drink tasted like melted Calippo was right! Fingers crossed now that no phone call follows in the coming days 🤞🏼

GWhiteley · 18/06/2021 11:12

@CherLW @AdventuresAwait slightly concerned as my first thing test was high & so was my after breakfast one after having weetabix & milk.
REALLY don't want to go on medication so going to try toast tomorrow morning & get some yoghurt when I go shopping tomorrow to have with my weetabix instead of milk from Sunday onwards & see if it makes any difference

SP2Bx · 18/06/2021 11:15

@GWhiteley the one thing I remember from my sister having it was that all cereal sent her bloods sky high! So she switched to fruit, yoghurts, eggs on toast etc... think it's a case of using the testing to figure out what works and what doesn't for you!

CherLW · 18/06/2021 11:22

@GWhiteley I find mine are slightly higher after I’ve had bread for breakfast. When I can I try and stick to eggs, cheese, ham/bacon, tomatoes/mushrooms or avocado etc as they seem to work better for me.

If you had something like weetabix and a protein yogurt that could help?

@Kirky658 my second one is booked for the day before my due date so I’m going to call the 119 number and get it changed. The nurse I spoke to at my jab last night just said you need it before the baby is here or even tell a little white lie and say you need it early because of induction/C section etc…

SillyBry · 18/06/2021 11:38

@Kirky658 @CherLW i booked online through the nhs system rather than through my gp. You can then go back online and “manage my booking”. You have to cancel the existing 2nd appointment to get a new date, but I’ve ended up doing it twice and got better dates/locations both times!

28 week appointment done. Midwife said I was lucky that the trust have suspended OGTT tests due to Covid so they would just look at my blood test results for the diabetes so no long wait at the hospital after the sickly drink!
Baby was measuring well (well my tummy was...) and is head down already. She said that babies heartbeat sounded like a girl... I don’t know what that means, but it made me laugh. She said next time it might sound like a boy so not to cling too much to her words 🤣🤣

Kirky658 · 18/06/2021 11:39

@cherlw thanks hun. My gp when I spoke to him last week wants me to have it at a specific place which wasn't an option on the NHS site so looks like I'll have to ring them. He had said that he would be able to get me to have it in 8 weeks time which is 4 weeks before baby is due to give me time to recover which was good! Just got to actually try and speak to someone sensible to book it now 🤣

GWhiteley · 18/06/2021 11:48

@SP2Bx @CherLW problem is mon-fri I'm in the office & leave for work about 7.40am to start at 8, leaving hubby in bed asleep. So I need something fairly quick & quiet but filling. Can't stand cold eggs so that's out the window, and feel like fruit & yoghurt just aren't going to keep me full for a decent amount of time 😩 so frustrating!

CherLW · 18/06/2021 12:02

@GWhiteley have you ever had those egg muffin things? Where you just have some cooked veg and egg and make the day before? I hate cold eggs too but I like the cold egg muffins. Or go a bit more continental and have cheese and meats with your fruit and yogurt?

SillyBry · 18/06/2021 12:06

@GWhiteley Could you try something like baking some breakfast muffins at the weekend? Then you could have them ready to grab one in the morning?
Or overnight oats? Could they work?

Breakfast is my least favourite meal, so I'm not much help probably!!
