Is anyone planning on doing a private “well-being scan” or 4D scans? Which company are you using (if in London) ?

Bubbles1st · 10/06/2021 20:11

@bewitchingnight I have a group appointment tomorrow to pick up to monitor along with 3 other women apparently - not that happy to be honest, I quite sure that isn't a confidential health service but what can you say after waiting a week I don't want to delay getting it.

Then apparently I will a phone call from the diabetic consultant on Monday to discuss the results from over the week. Which again I am not too happy about as if they are not good they will start the medication yet they haven't been worried what they have been for the last week!

It's the first time I feel a bit let down by my trust, something which is so important and they sent an email with the information in instead of a face to face.

Unfortunately for me it's means all my appointments now have to be moved to the hospital I will give birth in, rather than the local convenient one.

Another rant sorry having a stressful few days!!

AdventuresAwait · 10/06/2021 20:24

@Mamabearwhere I've booked a 4d scan for next week but not in London, so not much help! I think others have scans booked too. Exciting!

@Bubbles1st, sorry to hear that. I can understand you feeling let down. Hope it goes OK tomorrow x

Bubbles1st · 10/06/2021 20:26

Wow my grammar was bad on my rant just goes to show I was spewing the words out, will read it before sending it next time 🤣

@Bubbles1st rant away that does sound like a disappointing experience. Hopefully they'll give you the contact details for the diabetic midwife or someone you can speak to in the meantime. I hope it all goes well. I have the same thing that my appointments are at the hospital where I'll give birth now rather than the nicer and easier hospital I've been going to so far!

@AdventuresAwait thank you for all the empathy it helps to know other people feel the same way. My husband was very practical about it, looking up lots of info and couldn't really understand all the emotions behind it. I feel guilty too although I know it's not rational.

deedeebythesea · 10/06/2021 20:57

Hi everyone! Sorry for going awol for 23 pages. In short, I had a promotion at work, sold and bought a house, passed my driving test. It’s been mad. And at times I would forget I was pregnant. How strange is that? Anyway.. Had to take half day off work and go to the hospital today. I noticed reduced movements since 2pm yesterday but also a fair bit of pain which started on Monday after midwife examined and measured the bump at my 28w appt. She sort of prodded on the top right side and it’s not stopped hurting ever since. Baby’s heart rate is 👍🏼 He is kicking again. The pain is still there. What was upsetting, however, was being in the hospital itself. On the way back home, DH said it was almost like a little taster of what it’d be like on the big day. And we both agreed we would give home birth another thought. Didn’t consider it until now as it is our first and it’s a little complicated with the imminent move and two dogs. But I think we can make it work.

Anyways! Missed you all and going to spend the rest of the eve catching up on 20 odd pages X

FTEngineerM · 10/06/2021 21:12

Wow that’s an exciting few week @deedeebythesea 😀 put your feet up now.

We’re the hospital worried about it hurting or after the monitoring they were ok?

If you have dogs and want a home birth I don’t think they’ll get in the way, our dog was sooooo cute when I was in labour. I took lots of pictures to remember because he followed me around with a super concerned look and would put his paw on me/DP if ever we got close. 🤣

SillyBry · 10/06/2021 21:18

A friend of mine has had 3 home births and loved them all. Said it was amazing - and for further children, made childcare much easier.

Personally I’m nearly 35 minutes from our major hospital, so I’d rather go there to birth. My local hospital (6 mins away) has a birthing unit, but I was put off last time by my paramedic friend telling me how horrendous the journey was on blue lights when they have a mum in trouble in the back. But actually, my birth was straightforward and I would’ve been fine there.
That said, the birthing unit at the major hospital was just as nice.
I think I will go back to the major hospital this time because it was fine last time. And the nearby hospital unit is expecting to be closed still due to Covid.

Kirky658 · 10/06/2021 21:21

@deedeebythesea congrats on everything, what an exciting yet mad few weeks 😊❤️

@bubbles1st rant away, that doesn't sound right at all! I feel you should have a confidential space to air your concerns!

For those of you who've had your GT, how long did your appointment take to come through? I saw the midwife 3 weeks ago, and I still haven't heard back yet. Tried to call her today and she's on holiday....i remember reading it needs doing really pre 28 weeks so time is ticking!

FTEngineerM · 10/06/2021 21:34

@Bubbles1st a group appointment?! What the hell.

SP2Bx · 10/06/2021 21:36

@Kirky658 That's strange, although I guess depends where your midwife appointments are. I see mine just at my local GP Surgery, so on Tuesday she just said to make the appointment there and then, and they booked me in for next week!

@deedeebythesea Wow busy bee! Congratulations on all the good news, sounds like a home birth could be a lovely start to life in your new home :)

I think they look/sound lovely, but I'm 25/30 mins from hospital, and also quite like the idea of the "occasion" of going to hospital/MLU and coming home with a baby!!!

RaeRae84 · 10/06/2021 21:50

Congratulations @deedeebythesea what an amazing few weeks 🎉🎉

I was speaking to someone on the weekend about a home birth as she had one with her second last month and said it was amazing. Am I the only one who thinks I couldn't cope with the mess at home 🙈 in reality I have no clue what it involves! Being a stress head I think I would be suited to a hospital!

AdventuresAwait · 10/06/2021 22:14

Wow @deedeebythesea, congratulations! Xx

Bubbles1st · 10/06/2021 22:24

Very busy in deed @deedeebythesea well done on all counts, sounds like you need to relax!

Morning all.
Baby first aid - I'm struggling to find anything being run in person.

Has anyone done a good online course they feel was sufficient? If so please can you share the details, thanks.

OP posts:
bluemagicalsky · 11/06/2021 08:52

@RaeRae84 😂 The mess of a home birth concerns me too. Although apparently they put plastic sheeting everywhere, but then does that take away your home comfort? I think I'd also feel like DH and I should be hosting the midwives. I'm leaning on going to MLU

Kirky658 · 11/06/2021 08:55

@bubbles1st I saw that The Honest Midwife on Instagram was hosting a Zoom course last night. I haven't done any of her webinar yet but a friend of mine said they were very good. X

Sceptre86 · 11/06/2021 09:10

@Maybebaby29 you still have time so fingers crossed it will move up for you. At least they have a plan in place for you so you have a rough idea of what to expect. Have they put you on bed rest for the remainder of the pregnancy or are you just to take it easy from now until baby arrives (easier said than done with two other children).

No colostrum yet, I'm hoping it does come in because I would like to store it incase baby is born via section. I found after my previous births my milk took ages to come in and there wasn't much.

Bubbles1st · 11/06/2021 09:33

@Kirky658 thanks, I did the honest midwifes free session and it put me off her, I just wasn't a fan of her style or personality unfortunately 🙈 lots of people do recommend her though.

I will see if my midwife team can recommend anything.

OP posts:
RaeRae84 · 11/06/2021 09:54

@bluemagicalsky omg I didn't even think about hosting 😂 I would have to get my mum over for that! I didn't realise they put sheeting down. I assumed they would do something. The lady I spoke to had a pool at home and she said it was great. I just can't imagine myself doing it though. I think I would actually be more distressed. Although who knows how you will be on the day!
@Bubbles1st I did a free mamas and papas online course on sleep and there was a lady called Kate Ball who runs mini first aid. I thought she was great actually. I'm not on Instagram but I know she has something on that too and well as a website.

SillyBry · 11/06/2021 10:46

@Bubbles1st I did a baby first aid course when my daughter was born last time... there was a local lady that came and taught us. Babies were allowed to be there - it was at home (pre Covid), so all really accessible and laid back.
I think it was through this company - www.daisyfirstaid.com/

Well, I just picked some school uniform up from a lady, who said "are you pregnant? How far along are you?"

I said 27 weeks and she said "Oh what a lovely tiny bump!"
I feel like a heffalump, so it's just wonderful when a total stranger makes your day like that!!! ;-)

leftitlate37 · 11/06/2021 10:59

congrats on all the exciting news @deedeebythesea!!! thats amazing!
@RaeRae84 wahoo to not much longer til maternity leave starts that is ace!
@SillyBry yes to the random lady and making your day :):)
its funny how massive we can feel but to others they are like, 6.5 months pregnant what? u have no bump - when it takes me ages to walk anywhere, have 2 sit down if im standing up waiting somewhere too long, and generally feel like a heffalump just like u describe!!
Whoever said mood swings...id felt ok, but then realised i prob am a grumpy ass! getting messed around by idiot tradespeople who dont turn up or respond, but then equally someone rocks up an hour early without warning and im absolutely livid haha. had hot footed it back from town to get my dogs walked before he came, and found he was just leaving having already disturbed hubby working. think i was probably unreasonably peed off ha.
how r u runners doing?? ive had a "big" week this week! managed 3 v slow 5ks, great to finally be managing again, but im like a tortoise!

GWhiteley · 11/06/2021 11:54

Feeling very stressed & emotional today. Trying to cover lots of things for my boss (I'm his pa) & finding it a real struggle. Can feel my heart pounding, which I don't think is good for the baby at all but can't seem to calm down as for so much to do! Only got 9 weeks of work left & it can't come soon enough!

Sorry for rant, just really needed to get it off my chest & I know my husbands response would be 'it's not good for the baby to get stressed' when I know that already & would make me more stressed!!!

RaeRae84 · 11/06/2021 12:13

@leftitlate37 3 weeks today, not that I'm counting much 😆 everyone keeps asking won't I be bored...err no! Got plenty planned thanks and would much rather not be in my hot office being pestered all day! (Definitely feeling the rage the last few weeks)
Great news on the running, that's fantastic. I've not been for 3 weeks now but going to order a band tonight to see if that helps. I've done a couple of work outs but I'm just swollen and tired with the heat by the time I get home at the moment.

Moominmiss · 11/06/2021 12:32

@Kirky658 I had my 25 week appointment yesterday with my midwife and she told me to book my GTT on the way out with reception.

It’s now been booked in for bang on 28 weeks. 2 appointments, 2 hours apart. The nurse will also do bloods for iron levels, and my whooping cough jab at the same appointment.

I have a midwife appointment booked for 29 weeks and she wanted my GTT to have been done before she sees me at that appointment.
