@Sillysocks998 we don't have one, our sofa is ancient & low - but will have to try something. I've got an app with my midwife next week so will mention it then, good thinking!

FTEngineerM · 09/06/2021 11:13

God I have no idea on weight; I was 88kg at booking and the amount of Nutella I’ve been through since suggests that may have increased 🙊. Who am I to say no to a craving.

Kat1112025 · 09/06/2021 11:41

I've put on 3kg at 24weeks. But was told sternly by the obstetrician, at 12 weeks, I didn't need to put on any weight! 😬
BMI was 31 at booking in and I was there for a pre-existing medical issue, hence the chat about not eating for two....

I think everyone is different, different starting points, health issues, pregnancy symptoms. Probably best not to worry too much if your midwives aren't bothered.

MrsTD88 · 09/06/2021 11:58

@GWhiteley my hands have, I've had to take my wedding and engagement rings off which makes me a little sad.

SP2Bx · 09/06/2021 12:00

I got booked in for a GTT at my 25 week appointment yesterday because at booking my BMI was 29.4 ie. close to the limit of 30 in which you'd get sent for one anyway. Happy to have it, better to be checked than not, but when are the NHS going to move on from BMI?! It's literally the most ridiculous measure. Lord knows I'm no Emily Ratajkowksi (that article 🤦🏼‍♀️!) but at 5'8 and a size 12-14 I'd hardly think the midwife could be concerned that I'm bordering on obese! Maybe she is and I'm delusional 😂

GWhiteley · 09/06/2021 12:01

@MrsTD88 I occasionally have to take my rings off for a bit as my fingers do swell throughout the day, but luckily not enough or continuous so have been able to keep wearing them so far. Don't think my hubby would be too pleased if I wasn't able to wear them but will have to see how it goes!

bewitchingnight · 09/06/2021 12:05

@GWhiteley yes, not by a lot but my feet look a bit puffy and my rings aren't as comfy. Such a glamorous time Grin

MrsTD88 · 09/06/2021 12:07

@GWhiteley I could probably wear them now and again as the swelling comes and goes but thought I'd may as well get used to it as I had to take them off from about 35 weeks last time or they would have got stuck 🙈 I have an irrational fear of them having to be cut off. My husband is the same but needs must, told him I'd rather them off than have to be cut off 🤣🤣

unicornpower · 09/06/2021 12:12

I lost 4kg in the first trimester due to hyperemisis but i weighed myself today and i have gained that back plus some more! I am not weighing myself again haha yess to the swollen feet! i took a bump pic yesterday and my feet look like swollen sausages

Kirky658 · 09/06/2021 12:14

@sp2bx completely agree with you on the BMI. I am 5'2 and a pre pregnancy size 8-10 yet I was on the very border of overweight from normal. It's ridiculous!

I'm having to chase my midwife for my GT test as the appointment hasn't come through and I saw her 3 weeks ago. She's a lovely woman but a waste of space sometimes...

Bubbles1st · 09/06/2021 12:21

@SP2Bx my midwife commented that the bmi system was way out dated. Now I admit I'm overweight and my actual weight compared to
How I look can shock people. When MW was asking about movements and trying to find heart beat I comment that I know my extra padding doesn't help. Her response was don't be so hard on yourself, I said well try telling me that when I'm being referred to consultant, have to have blood thinners and I've already had an anaesthetist consult! She looked up my bmi and was shocked.

My biggest issue since seeing a poster in one of the waiting rooms is that they advocate healthier eating in pregnancy and say high bmi will see a dietitian for advice to not gain too much weight but then that didn't happen. So it's either something they want to address and should do, or don't make such a fuss.

Admittedly now got GD so having to speak to the dietician anyway but I'm nearly 27 weeks so a bit of help 15 weeks ago (sounds ages) wouldn't have gone a miss.

Oh that turned into a rant - sorry!

GWhiteley · 09/06/2021 12:40

@MrsTD88 oh god my husband would go nuts if my engagement ring had to be cut off. Perhaps when it comes to me not being able to wear it anymore I'll tell him that's better than it being cut off & hopefully that'll placate him!

Kat1112025 · 09/06/2021 12:41

@Bubbles1st I've definitely found the "eat healthily and try not to gain weight" without being offered any support supremely unhelpful.

If it were that simple I wouldn't be overweight now!

Sillysocks998 · 09/06/2021 12:45

Thanks for sharing weight updates ladies. I think like one of you said, we all started off at different weights, have different health issues and symptoms and I agree what the hell Is BMI still being used for! Hopefully they'll use common sense too. TMI but I had a ripe mango yesterday, was lovely and felt good for eating fruit, but it gave me diarrhea and today my bump has shrunk. I'm drinking water to help bump get bigger again😂💦. I'm seeing MW next week, I think it's listening to HB and Blood pressure. They don't do a lot really do they these Community midwives. Mine just seems to ask me to ask my consultant for everything. I am a Complex case I guess. 😔

AdventuresAwait · 09/06/2021 13:52

Same here @RaeRae84! In fact I don't own scales and haven't been weighted since my 12 week scan!

bewitchingnight · 09/06/2021 14:15

@Kat1112025 @Bubbles1st I agree, eat "normally" was the advice to me. Whose version of normal would that be?!

RaeRae84 · 09/06/2021 14:20

@AdventuresAwait I haven't either actually. I am as healthy as I can be but going from training 6 days a week and following a strict diet to now barely doing any exercise and just eating more normally it was always going to pile on 🙈 My husband is happy that there are crisps and chocolate in the house now after being banned for years ( I have no willpower so can't have it at home 🙈😆)
Luckily I was about 4 dress sizes bigger when we got engaged so my rings were too big for me anyway!
I do find it frustrating though that it's another thing we are made to feel crap about if you put on too much or if you don't look like a bloody celeb. I don't want to be told, I'm sure you'll snap back quickly after, as what if I don't. As long as we are as healthy as we can be for the baby, isn't that enough for now!?

RaeRae84 · 09/06/2021 14:35

@GWhiteley definitely seeing the start of some cankles during the day. Sometimes my legs have been swollen as well but depends what I've done that day. Just an excuse to put my feet up after work 😃

bluemagicalsky · 09/06/2021 17:10

Put on 9kg over here 🙋🏼‍♀️ Seems to be all bump and boobs! 😂

crobo87 · 09/06/2021 19:24

Ive put on 2lb so far but I'm 'bigger' anyway.
I lost some in the early weeks as I struggled to eat much due to the nausea so I think it's just balanced itself out.

Definitely have cankles appearing towards the end of the day, especially in this heat.

Mamabearwhere · 09/06/2021 20:14

The weight gain is really stressing me out, I eat so healthy, not intentionally, I just seem to be craving salads, fruits and vegetables. Gone off chocolate and sweet things. Yet I have gained 11kg so far! Everyone comments on my belly size because it is ridiculously big compared to my tiny 5ft 1 petite body but my bum definitely has got bigger since I’m now in size 10/12 pants where I was in 6/8 before (thankfully DH finds this a huge perk and loving it)

Side note, how’s everyone’s mood? The last week I have had such shitty mood it’s like PMS mood swings x10! I’m snapping at my family, have such little patience for my kids and other people yet at the same time feeling really bored and lonely and wanting to do something fun and exciting like meet up friends or go dinner etc. Wondering if it’s just crazy hormones o

KH512 · 09/06/2021 20:49

@GWhiteley I'm getting cankles and swollen fingers, ah the joys! I mentioned it to the midwife and she just said it's one of those things, nothing I could do apart from staying active and put my feet up at the end of the day

@Mamabearwhere I've had quite a few crying sessions and my DH is worrying about me, oh dear!

In the first trimester I lost almost 2kgs but now I've put that back on plus about 6kgs! :O I'm active in work and eat fairly well too so quite worried how much more I'll put on!

FTEngineerM · 09/06/2021 20:51

@Mamabearwhere yeah count me in on that, I have been on a war path. I’m criticising everything that everyone does 🤭 and then raging about totally minor things. Then crying that I don’t see DS1 enough. 26+3 and I hope it chills out soon ☹️

SillyBry · 09/06/2021 21:03

Last time I stood on the scales I’d put a stone on. I don’t plan on standing on them again! 🤣🤣
I don’t want to be worrying about my weight now - I’m exercising and will deal with the consequences post partum!

MrsTD88 · 09/06/2021 21:32

@GWhiteley haha yes that should work, it worked with mine.

@Mamabearwhere I have been having terrible mood swings too. Work is a particular stressor just now, have no tolerance for it at the moment.
