Hello.
Not sure what to do ...I am having quiet regular contractions since yesterday ...I rang to the hospital and the lady said to take another paracetamol and try to rest....if it doesn’t get any better then need to ring again, but I was waiting till today if it will be better.
The belly is hard like a stone and contractions again...should I go just in and to be checked ?
🤔☺️

Thanks!

D0nut · 08/06/2021 10:24

Hi @Krista1991 I think you should go to the hospital or maternity assessment unit and get checked out. I had some pain a few weeks ago that they thought might have been contractions and they scanned me and checked my cervix. It was all good but they told me to go back any time. Also they said that the wait in the morning is usually much shorter! So I think it’s worth going this morning if you can.

Sophieandtiger · 08/06/2021 10:46

@SP2Bx thank you so much for such a kind response. Typically, baby is a little quieter today so I think I need to stop obsessing! Also makes sense that in second pregnancy they have even more room as it's all stretched already! I also think when I'm anxious it moves more probably from the adrenaline so it's a vicious circle I really need to break.

Hope your appointment goes well, mine was actually yesterday but on the phone only as it's not my first pregnancy. Unofrtunately it wasn't my midwife and felt really rushed, I asked about the vaccine and she only said they can't advise and it's down to me. I get it but it makes it so stressful! Just three weeks til I get to see my midwife in person and hopefully can get more reassurance, I can do it!

CherLW · 08/06/2021 10:57

@Sceptre86 that’s excellent news that all was ok apart from the achey arm. I hope that happens to me! I would have just been transferred to a different department at work as I will be over 28 weeks so don’t want to be off poorly so soon 🙈

Glad they kept an eye on you for a bit, all the things I hear ensure me they are caring.

SillyBry · 08/06/2021 11:38

@Sophieandtiger I'm also expecting my 2nd - and feel a bit lost with the lack of seeing anyone! I have my 28 week appointment booked in for next Friday, but it seems FOREVER since I've seen anyone. Midwife at 16 weeks and scan at 20 weeks.
She did say if I was uncomfortable or had any issues, she would happily fit me in if I needed seeing in between, but really, I think all my issues are just aches and pains and she will nod sympathetically before saying "It's going to get worse before it gets better!" LOL!

@CherLW I had no ill effects from my first dose. I was made to sit for 15 minutes for monitoring. I had a sore arm for the first 24 hours, but nowhere near as bad as when I had the whooping cough one!

My second dose was booked for when I'm 38+4... but I rang 119 yesterday and asked if I could bring it forward at all, so I've now got it at 37+2. I just started to feel anxious about if it made me feel rough for a few days, that's the last thing I need in my last weeks of pregnancy and just as my daughter finishes nursery etc!

CherLW · 08/06/2021 12:02

@SillyBry that’s also good news! I’m hoping my one goes the same as yours ladies!

My first one is June 17th and second one is September 2nd but I’m due on the 3rd!! They said to call up from august and they can try and get me an earlier one!

What jab did you have?

Kirky658 · 08/06/2021 12:04

@sillybry @cherlw I've booked my jab this morning, first one on the 17th and next one is 4th Sept which is 2 weeks before baby is due... And I've got to travel 22 miles to get the second one at the min! Have asked my gp to let me know when I can book my second dose locally so hopefully I can do that.

SillyBry · 08/06/2021 12:11

@Kirky658 @CherLW I had Pfizer - wishing you both lots of luck ladies!
I would definitely say you’ll get a better slot rebooking.
All I was offered first time round was 16 miles away... actually at the hospital I’ll birth at... but it’s a rubbish journey. You have to cancel your appointment to book a new one, which made me a bit nervous. But the woman on 119 said 9/10 they can get a better one.
So I got a week earlier in the next village to me. So a 10 minute drive - much nicer!!
She said more snd more are coming available all the time.

The day before you’re due is quite close... nothing like an impending deadline! 🤣🤣

I thought having it at 39 weeks would probably be fine - but I keep reading second babies come quicker, so I’m nervous I might end up being early this time round! And selfishly, I’d rather feel rubbish when my daughter is still in nursery and not needing me to entertain her 🤣

CherLW · 08/06/2021 12:14

@Kirky658 @SillyBry I’m quite lucky as the location for mine is a about 5 mins away… it’s just the day before I’m due that I’m hoping to change 😂 fingers crossed they can get me in august sometime.

I’m really glad I decided to have it now!

Sillysocks998 · 08/06/2021 12:20

Hi Ladies,
Thanks for your replies. I've just been through an incredibly difficult pregnancy. You'd be shocked. But I'm trying to get back on my feet. I heard that if you have a C section, breast milk is delayed and so I've thought about which formula milk will be best. I've come across Kendamil. Does anyone use this or can recommend it? I'm a FTM. I hope to mainly breast feed when and if milk comes in. Hope you can stay cool in the heat this week xx

FTEngineerM · 08/06/2021 12:43

@Sillysocks998 sorry to hear you’re having a difficult pregnancy.

Yes it can take an extra few days, not always though and it may take longer so it’s super good you’re planning now because like with everything else pregnancy and baby, it’s almost impossible to predict Sad.

Regarding formula; they all have to meet minimum standards, I’d watch the channel 4 documentary on it, if you haven’t already, because it explains that if something were nutritionally required it would have to be in them all. You can get different varieties like organic and what not, but it’s totally down to you and your budget really. I’d deffo go for something easy to get at a local 24 hour supermarket, atm our DC is thankfully coming up to the end of needing it on CMPA formula only available online or at a select pharmacy 4.8miles away white shit opening hours so inevitably we’ve almost run out on a few occasions. Which was stressful and yes could have been avoided by buying more blah blah but as you get through the days sometimes things slip your mind 😂.

Anyway, essentially, it’s up to you.

If you did want to continue on BFing after supplementing I’d deffo look up paced feeding, only thing that made switching between breast and bottle smoothly for us.

Kirky658 · 08/06/2021 12:52

@sillybry fingers crossed my first one is 10 mins away so that's fine!

Something to make you chuckle. It's DH's 30th on the 21st and I have ordered him a personalised bottle opener. However I misread the instructions so it reads happy 30th birthday to my name rather than his 🤣🤣

FTEngineerM · 08/06/2021 13:04

@Kirky658 that is hilarious! Even better present now.

SillyBry · 08/06/2021 13:18

@Kirky658 That's hilarious!!! I think that sounds the perfect present... he'll think of you every time he has a beer now!!! LOL!

crobo87 · 08/06/2021 13:19

Is anyone else struggling with the heat?
I may have mentioned a few weeks ago I was getting episodes of dizziness, it's not my Bp or anaemia, consultant said it's likely just how my body is coping or not coping 😂😂 with pregnancy.
The heat for me is unbearable, I struggled in my previous 2 pregnancies with it too. I've just been to the shop (it's 24degrees here) and had to come back and lie down in front of the fan as I felt really unwell. No idea how I'll get through the next few months 🙈🙈

RowanMumsnet · 08/06/2021 13:30

Hello - MNHQ here: really sorry to burst into your thread.

We just wanted to let you know that tomorrow (Wednesday) evening we're running a free one-hour Zoom event about giving birth - and everyone who attends will be in with a chance of winning one of 25 copies of the guest's book about giving birth without fear.

You can see more details and sign up here

Thanks - and hope you're all feeling as well as possible and coping as the hot weather approaches Flowers

Sophieandtiger · 08/06/2021 14:02

Thanks @SillyBry! It does feel like a really long time though I was quite "lucky" to need a second scan as baby's position wasn't ideal the first time so at least I had that at 22 weeks too. I don't want to wish the time away but as I get anxious I do wish it would hurry up and baby was here :)

Noodles4Me · 08/06/2021 15:03

Hello all, got results back and Strep B is back. So antibiotics AGAIN. At least having the ELCS means there's liitle/no risk to the baby.

I'm having a pregnancy massage later so will let you all know if worth it.

Scotti84 · 08/06/2021 15:07

Hi all, just got my results back, ive got a high result on the sugar test, all the dr said was come over and pick up a prescription. For what, or if i need to do something else, i have no idea. Best get reading up!

Bubbles1st · 08/06/2021 16:30

@Scotti84 join the gestational diabetes uk group on Facebook and check out their website. It's really helped me the last few days. My test was Wednesday and I don't have an appointment until Friday! I imagine your dr is referring to the blood monitoring machine you need to collect ?

OP posts:
Sophieandtiger · 08/06/2021 16:59

@Scotti84 sorry to hear! Is this test something that is done everywhere to all pregnant women? I have seen a few ladies mentioning having a glucose test here, but my midwife hasn't mentioned it. Wondering if I should ask her!

crobo87 · 08/06/2021 17:51

@Sophieandtiger I don't think they are standard, you have to be in a certain risk catagory I think.

I'm having one as I have high BMI

AdventuresAwait · 08/06/2021 17:56

@Sophieandtiger, it is booked with certain risk factors in my area. For me, it was that my Dad has diabetes and my BMI was raised.

@Bubbles1st and @Scotti84, my test was Saturday and I saw the nurse yesterday. She was great. Gave me lots of information. My prescription was for the lancets and test strips for the glucose monitoring machine. I test 6 times a day & have changed my diet already. I have to submit my results via the machine app on Thursday and they will decide on Friday if I need the Metformin tablets (she gave me a prescription just in case).
Waiting to hear when I need to attend clinic and when I'll have growth scans.
Today my blood results have been under the limit after meals so I'm hopeful I can do this!

Allicit · 08/06/2021 18:08

@Bubbles1st @Scotti84 @AdventuresAwait - I got diagnosed super early and it’s been very hard emotionally doing it from so early but it is completely doable and manageable. I definitely recommend the group, the diet advice is excellent although i would say the group can get a little intense sometimes so to take it with a pinch of salt!

I’ve got my first growth scan tomorrow and I’m really really nervous. Growth scan and Doppler to check on the placenta. Also consultant appointment (first one since 11 weeks). Absolutely bricking it!!

Bubbles1st · 08/06/2021 18:20

@Allicit it was a post of yours on another thread actually which led me to the group so thank you.

I have already made changes to my diet and lost 1/2 kg since Friday so I'm assuming I'm doing something right.

I'm trying not to be to over whelmed about it as I knows it's essential and I want to control it with diet alone, but it's not like just healthy eating and being good, it's the balancing each meal and NO cheat days which I'm trying to imagine for the next 11/12 weeks 😬
