@leftitlate37 yup we got it off marketplace! So handy. We had to drive about an hour to get it but it was worth it! I asked about a couple before finding ours, but it really is a buyers market so keep trying and hopefully you'll find one soon!

@SP2Bx it was good! They have ALOT of prams and car seats but they also have a good selection of nursery furniture too! I didnt find it had massively good offers though, I thought it was a place that did deals etc but most things you can still get cheaper online- it was very cute and the staff were lovely though

Bubbles1st · 07/06/2021 16:41

@leftitlate37 don't rule out eBay for your pram.

I decided what I wanted then stalked eBay for a while, found the pram I wanted new and unused but from a private seller so no warranty etc. New it's £500 it got it for £320 delivered and can still buy the foot muff and carry cot separately if we want them under the £500 price for the pushchair alone when the bundle was over £700. Would have got a second hand one but the resale is reasonably high and like you say wasn't really worth not trying to get it new.

So far it's the only big purchase we have made brand new so it's where I was happier to spend a bit more money to get what I want. I'm not precious and very happy to accept all the kindly donated items but hand me downs are not always first preference even when fab condition and I just felt I needed to make a decision that I wanted for once.

Went for oyster 3 and love it :)

Hi @D0nut I can totally relate. We haven't bought much because of the anxiety too. Pregnancy hasn't been easy. I've had major problems that I haven't mentioned here. So I think that's the main reason. I just pray this anxiety gets better. All the mums here will be focusing on giving lots of love. I think we're all trying to be smart with money from the sounds of it. In a market so saturated with baby stuff it's so hard to buy and make the right decisions. I think I'll continue to go one day at a time still for a bit longer as it feels better and less stressful.

SillyBry · 07/06/2021 16:58

@leftitlate37 Super exciting about the new kitchen! We finished ours (knocking through to the garage to create a mini utility/toilet and then knocking the kitchen and dining room into one space) in mid April and man, it feels amazing!

I'm not sure how I feel about spinny things either... but they won't even let me go on a truck ride across the zoo bit saying it's "not recommended for pregnant women". I mean, it's a truck? Are they thinking the baby might bounce out?! I struggle to see why it's fine for a 4 year old, but not me! ;-) I'll report back when I've been... I'm sure it'll be entertaining if nothing else!

I did read in a book yesterday that second pregnancies are on average 5 days shorter than 1st pregnancies... I was like no, I'm not prepared for that!! I'll barely be finished work!
On the work thing - I'm also so lost on what I'm doing. I'm officially finishing on the 23rd August (first week holiday, then mat leave)... due back on the 30th May. But I've no idea what holiday I need to put on the end of that.

SillyBry · 07/06/2021 17:04

@Sillysocks998 I think you're so right! There is SOOOOO much stuff marketed as "must haves" for new parents... and I think the one thing I've said to my friends when they are expecting, you don't need everything... and the wonders of internet shopping, most stuff can be with you next day. If you find you need something you weren't sure about, you can get it pretty quickly after baby has come :-)

And as they get older, you find that you get good at swapping toys... so you sell the baby gym and baby rocker and buy a jumperoo for a similar price off facebook - this stuff gets used for so little time that second hand really is ok a lot of the time :-)

FTEngineerM · 07/06/2021 17:13

Ha yes! I always wondered why there was so much ‘like new’ baby stuff of eBay/Facebook market place and now I know.. they only really need you for the first few months everything else is for your convenience.

Kirky658 · 07/06/2021 17:14

Just been offered my covid vaccine, I'd basically decided I was going to have it, but now I'm panicking

bewitchingnight · 07/06/2021 17:25

I've started to enjoy watching videos on YouTube along the theme of baby products I regret buying which helps me remind myself that she needs clothes, feeding, somewhere to sleep and us! Having said that I am enjoying stocking up a little library of books! I'm feeling very lucky that I have a little nephew who will be 9 months older than our baby so we have relatives who are very kindly lending us a lot of baby stuff.

I can't believe that tomorrow will be 3 months until my due date! The first twelve weeks were so slow and now everything is going so fast.

Also excitingly my husband felt the baby kick for the first time yesterday after a lot of failed attempts!

D0nut · 07/06/2021 17:46

@Sillysocks998 I’m sorry you have had problems, that sounds really tough. And I hope your anxiety will get better and better

Sillysocks998 · 07/06/2021 19:05

Thanks Ladies, I already feel better. Yes for the first few weeks I'm hoping my milk comes in and we bond and we're happy like the little family I've / we've dreamed about. That will be enough I think. I'll have to rejoin Facebook as I too am OK with second hand items. Children lose interest so quickly and are constantly learning. I wil get some baby books. I work in Education and know how important reading is. Don't fall for all the marketing, save your monies, be smart and I hope we can all focus on recovery for ourselves and bonding with baby xxx

Squibble84 · 07/06/2021 19:07

@Kirky658 mine is booked for Wednesday. I was on the fence for ages but now I feel happy with my decision to get it. Have you watched the Stella Creasy webinar? That was really helpful in easing any worries for me! And the fact that there are stats showing that getting covid in the 3rd trimester can be detrimental to mum and baby - as a teacher I’m pretty exposed to lots of circulating germs! You can always book and cancel if you change your mind! X

Geegee20 · 07/06/2021 19:30

Hey ladies! Hope your all well!
Can anyone recommend any good nursing bras, I have really big boobies before pregnancy 🙈and there growing by the weeks, so I'm looking for some for when I have the baby as I'm hoping to breastfeed xx

Kirky658 · 07/06/2021 20:03

@squibble84 this is one of my concerns too as DH is a teacher, he's just had his first vaccine but still not confident he wouldn't bring it home. It's older secondary kids as well which are apparently 'super spreaders'. I need to watch this webinar. I'm going to see if I can chat with my gp tomorrow and see if they can offer any further wisdom too. My asthma has definitely been worse during pregnancy and I'm more out of breath so much more easily, I can't imagine getting covid on top as well!

AdventuresAwait · 07/06/2021 20:33

Hi all. I had my Glucose Tolerance Test at the weekend and my result was slightly high so I've been diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes. I saw a Diabetic Nurse today & have to monitor my blood sugar levels at home for the rest of my pregnancy. Starting at 6 times a day this week so they can see how my blood sugars are with normal meals and will decide on Friday if I need medication. I'll need to go to a clinic with an Obstetrician and Diabetic Nurse & will have growth scans to check baby.
They said it is manageable and most go on to have a healthy pregnancy and babies, but reading all the information is a bit scary!
Going to follow all their advice as closely as I can and see if I can get my blood sugar in normal ranges without medication, as it's only slightly above at the moment.
Any one else experienced this? Xx

Kirky658 · 07/06/2021 20:45

@adventuresawait I am awaiting my GT test I need to chase up my midwife. But the information sounds very scary but in reality as long as its well controlled and you follow their advice, there's no reason you and your baby won't be perfectly fine.. X

RaeRae84 · 07/06/2021 20:47

@Sillysocks998 so sorry to hear you feel like that. I haven't got the app as I knew it would send me up the wall. I have no pattern to the movements still, I'm 28 weeks on weds. As long as I feel him at some point in the day, I'm happy.
We are very much the same. We have been given some used bits from family like a pram and moses basket etc. The only things we've actually got ourselves is a baby carrier, car seat and a few clothes. We won't get much else other than nappies and the few little bits we actually need. I would rather buy stuff as I go when he's here if I feel I really need it. Kind of makes me feel under prepared but I'm just going to see how it goes. You are not alone in how you feel about the love and attention 💞

SillyBry · 07/06/2021 20:52

My hubby’s school had a student crop up with the Indian variant over half term and we’ve gone from 0-3 cases in our part of town to 14 this week, so a 600% rise. I know it’s small numbers still, but it just makes me realise it’s not going away.
My second dose was booked for 38+4, but I rang today and managed to move it a week earlier, which makes me feel a bit less stressed about feeling awful after the jab!

@AdventuresAwait I’m really sorry to hear about the GD. Sounds like a lot to get your head around! But I’m glad it’s been picked up and you’re being monitored well 👍🏻

AdventuresAwait · 07/06/2021 20:59

Thanks @Kirky658 and @SillyBry xx

Bubbles1st · 07/06/2021 21:22

@AdventuresAwait I had my GTT last Wednesday, just happened to have my midwife Thursday who said the results were in and high so to expect a call from the diabetes clinic.
Well still no call, no appointment in the post. I'm going to have to chase tomorrow. I've joined the GD uk group on FB and read lots of their info online so I'm trying to make changes on my own for now, but really keen to start monitoring. I was tempted to order a monitor off Amazon but going to see what they say tomorrow first if it get hold of them.

I am already under the consultant so should not be any extra scans I don't already have scheduled just the dietitian and clinic reviews.

I am really wanting to try my best to be diet controlled only, I do not want any meds or insulin.

If you want to chat and support each other as we start this new part of the journey together feel free to DM me.

We got this!

AdventuresAwait · 07/06/2021 21:38

@Bubbles1st, thank you for your message! Sorry to hear you are doing this too but thank you for the encouragement!

I want to be diet controlled too. I followed the advice this afternoon and my result after dinner was in the right range so fingers crossed!

I heard from the diabetic clinic on Saturday, same day as the test, so do chase them. They were amazing and very reassuring, as I got a bit emotional.

Yes, we've got this! I will try and figure out my DMs 😊

Bubbles1st · 07/06/2021 21:58

@AdventuresAwait that is really care you've got there! Part of me is wishful thinking midwife was wrong and I continue to eat as I please, but dare not risk that to be true so best chase!

CherLW · 07/06/2021 23:36

Hi all, haven’t been on in a while and just catching up.

@Geegee20 I’m with you on the big boob front! I’m usually a 34G so I’m dreading in a way how big they will get!! I have bought and then returned a lot of maternity/nursing bras… but I bought some ‘Cake’ nursing bras and they are perfect!! They were a little pricey but I waiting for an offer and I don’t regret it one bit! Really comfy and supportive all at once!

I’ve got my Glucose test this Friday and I’m quite nervous about it.. I guess it’s good they do it but one more thing to worry about.
I’ve also booked my Covid vaccine and that’s next week! I’m glad I’ve gone for it now as the more I read the more I believe it’s the right decision for me.

Sceptre86 · 08/06/2021 07:28

@Sillysocks998 so sad that you feel like that. We haven't bought much as already have a dd and ds so have plenty of clothes. I did buy a changing station and a bedside crib and have started on baby's library. My dd and ds have added books from their own collections to give to baby.

I've got my gtt test this Thursday and am quite nervous too even though I've had the test in each of my previous pregnancies. I've been lucky not to have had a positive result before so really hope this goes the same way. I've also got my scan to see if my low lying placenta has moved too which is adding to my anxiety.

@CherLW I had my Pfizer first jab last week and other than a sore achy arm was absolutely fine. I had to stay at the place for 30 minutes as baby did an almighty roll when I had the jab, they gave me some water and I was checked over before I left. A very kind volunteer offered to walk me to dh's car but I was honestly fine. I think he thought I was further along than I am.Blush

Sophieandtiger · 08/06/2021 09:36

Hi everyone! Anyone else having a bit of an emotional wobble around 25weeks? I've had a few weeks of bliss but am suddenly an anxious and tearful mess, it's so annoying!

I'm worried about the fact that baby is constantly moving, I know I am blessed that I can feel them and loved it at first but it's so different to my first, I can't help but think something is wrong and they are distressed :(. Some days they don't stop all day and all night, like they are just not comfortable.

Also doesn't help that my toddler is the most unsettled they have ever been, and I'm still worrying about whether to get the Covid jab. I am so overwhelmed ;(. I feel really guilty as I want to enjoy my pregnancy and be excited... ok, pity party over!

SP2Bx · 08/06/2021 09:50

@Sophieandtiger It definitely sounds like you need to have a good chat with your midwife to put your mind at ease ❤️ is my understanding correct in that you don't get a 25 week appointment unless it's your first? (Mine is today and I plan to have the vaccine chat as well) If so, then I'm sure they'd gladly speak to you over the phone.

My baby was super lively yesterday so hopefully it just seems a lot as we get used to them moving around while they still have a bit of room! I'd try not to compare to your first, all babies can be so different by the sounds!

Sending hugs to all of you feeling anxious, it's all such a worry isn't it! ❤️
