Is anyone planning on using nests/sleeping pods? I know they can't be used for unsupervised sleeping but lots of people I know have them on the sofa with them etc and I wondered what the general consensus was?

Bubbles1st · 06/06/2021 14:22

Good question @unicornpower I've been wondering the same. I think we will
Mostly be using a Moses basket though but just because we have dogs so feel it will be a bit safer at home. Was thinking a pod or Sokol at would be ideal for parents house for when we pop over, not intrusive so that it can stay there.

OP posts:
Taybz · 06/06/2021 16:32

@unicornpower I think we're going to get one as it looks so cosy for baby! 😍

Taybz · 06/06/2021 16:34

I'm absolutely torn between getting a bedside crib I.e. snuzpod or Chico next to me or a proper crib (wood style). The bedside crib just seems to be too expensive for only 6months worth's. What are you thoughts? Also, what are you planning to get or already have gotten.

Kirky658 · 06/06/2021 16:41

We've also got a moses basket as a next2me or similar won't fit in our bedroom well enough. Also thinking the moses basket can be carried downstairs for during the daytime too.

GWhiteley · 06/06/2021 17:27

We've gone for a Moses basket as I got given it for free & meant I wasn't forking out loads of money for something I'll only need for 6 months

unicornpower · 06/06/2021 17:51

@Taybz and @Bubbles1st I feel the same about them! They look so comfy and snug, im just not sure which to go for! I've seen the dockatot and the Purflo but both seem super similar!

We are getting the Maxi cosi next to me crib as it's quite compact and it's fairly nice to look at compared to others I've seen and goes with our bedroom colours (complete vanity!)

KHR1 · 06/06/2021 18:22

@Taybz we got a KinderKraft neste which is pretty similar to the chicco next 2 me but a fraction of the price. We absolutely loved it with DC1 as it was so easy to lift her out during the night for feeds and doubled up as a travel cot when we stayed away as it packed away really quickly and easily.

Bubbles1st · 06/06/2021 18:48

@Taybz I bought an excellent next to me from Facebook for £15, brand new mattress was £25, so I figured £40 was a reasonable price for even 6 months use if it really does make feeding and soothing a bit more seem less. I also got given a Moses basket for free and a new mattress was £10. So I feel for £50 all in I got value for money.

There isn't room for a cot otherwise I would have been tempted to have gone straight for a cot bedside before moving him into the nursery.

marshmallowmode · 06/06/2021 18:53

Ah I can't wait to start buying things for baby. Thinking of getting a bedside crib too. We're moving house this week so I've resisted buying anything so far so we don't have to pack it. Buying and selling the house has been absolutely horrendous this time and I don't think I've ever been as stressed as I have been the last few weeks so I'm going to be so relieved when we've moved! Spent the whole weekend packing the house up though and it's been such hard work with this bump 😂. Currently sitting on the sofa with an ice pack on my poor feet.

D0nut · 06/06/2021 19:04

We’ve gone for a second hand stokke sleepi which starts off as a mini, really small and then extends. I’ll buy new mattresses. We were planning to get a next to me but when I saw this come up near by I really liked it! I’d also had a hard time spending for just a few months, even though I’ve only heard great things (hoping I won’t regret the decision!) I think it being so small and on wheels we can move it around more like a next to me crib.

FTEngineerM · 06/06/2021 20:27

A drop side cot is deffo a must, doesn’t have to be an expensive version any will do.

I just sold our Chicco next to me because DS1 isn’t going in the proper wooden cot at all, we’ve turned that into a drop side cot so it’s pointless having two of the same thing.

Lugging the sleepy baby up and over the cot sides is awful I found, especially when your insides feel like they’re going to fall out.

GWhiteley · 06/06/2021 20:48

@Bubbles1st where did you get your new Moses basket mattresses from?

Bubbles1st · 06/06/2021 21:20

@GWhiteley eBay, but think it was the same
Price on Amazon. It's a kinder one.

OP posts:
Poppins2016 · 07/06/2021 02:25

We used a Chicco Next2me in the bedroom (bought second hand) and a moses basket downstairs (free via family), so we had inexpensive options with my first... We'll do the same again this time, but if I was going to spend money on just one option I'd go for the Next2me, it really did make nights so much easier (and would last longer than a moses basket).

...currently awake because I have heartburn, thank goodness for Gaviscon!

SillyBry · 07/06/2021 10:58

Personally, I didn't use sleep nests/sleepyheads with my first. At the time, they were supposedly safe, but have now been outruled for unsupervised sleeping.
For people that struggled to get their babies to sleep, some swore by them... but others complained that then baby wouldn't settle in the crib/cot because it wasn't as "close".
I have a wooden crib for upstairs/by the bed and downstairs, I'll either use the bassinet from the pram or I have this awesome rocker napper that I swore by for my first. You can sit them up in it and hide behind them rocking them... plus it has music and a light show... then by the time they start to doze off, you can fully recline them to a moses basket. My first slept SO well in it - I hope number 2 is the same! ;-)

Hope everyone had a good weekend - another week on! 27 weeks here and can't believe we're nearly 3rd trimester. That's mad!

leftitlate37 · 07/06/2021 11:14

Hey all! Ages since been on it feels! Hope everyone coping in the heat! @SillyBry I thought that today, it's mad isn't it its suddenly 27 weeks eeeek! Still so much 2 do ....and seemingly rapidly disappearing time! We r still faffing over prams and the like and whether to do 2nd hand or new etc. Catching up with family and friends next few weeks who are gifting loads of 2nd hand stuff which is amazing, so maybe after that we can get some proper lists together and plan a bit better! How r everyone's bumps doing? Mine is still less bump and just more all over waist and tummy increase in size, feeling harder to bend over tho so it's defo coming!

SillyBry · 07/06/2021 11:28

I feel like the pregnancy whizzed by from 12-20 weeks and now I've been stuck in the second trimester for years... but the thought of approaching 28 weeks is quite scary! ;-) Like you say, I'm like "ohhhh god, I'm not organised!"
I really need to get in the attic and start seeing what we've got that's still decent and useable. Hubby is like that's cool, that's what summer holidays are for! But I think for my own sanity, I might want to start sooner! I'm a bit panicked that I gave all my newborn clothes away - and that they are all for a summer girl, not a September baby!

My bump is finally quite bumpy... I'm off to Chessington on Wednesday with my 4 year old and trying to work out what to wear to look as least pregnant as possible so I can take her on the rides!

I bought a relatively cheap and cheerful pram - it's not as beautiful as a Bugaboo or anything like that, but actually, I didn't get offended when it got scratched every time I put it up and down from the car! And a lot of people end up getting rid of the bigger pram and buying a stroller after a year, so it becomes less important. It's such a hard decision though - can you go to John Lewis or somewhere and push some around? We went to kiddicare last time - they had an entire floor full of buggies to play with, but I don't think it exists any more :-(

unicornpower · 07/06/2021 12:15

@leftitlate37 We went second hand for our pram! its in fab condition and I feel really happy to have saved a big chunk of money- we went to mamas and papas and then the baby barn but we are midlands based, not sure where you are :)

leftitlate37 · 07/06/2021 15:08

oo thanks @unicornpower! did u get it off marketplace? weve seen loads and keep toying with thinking gonna get one, but then they are either not that convenient to pick up, or need the odd bit replacing and think by time got the extra bits it won't be far off new! think will have another look at trying out in a John Lewis and get some more options so opens up the 2nd hand market a bit more for us!!
enjoy chessington @SillyBry! not sure i could cope with any spinny rides right now altho usually love them! think id pass out haha. big floaty top sounds the order of the day to get onto those rides!
gonna take a leaf out of your hubbys book and stay cool about the whole 27 weeks thing haha. just panics me what happens if they come a few wekes early, we'd be so unprepared so really need to crack on! on plus side we now have a lovelykitchen that just needs some paint on it, so least i feel like for maternity leave we've got a nice place to be in as hated it before!!
still no idea when to start mat leave...guessing leave as long as poss if can still WFH!

SP2Bx · 07/06/2021 15:48

How was the baby barn @unicornpower ? Is that the one in rugby? Only really have a proper cot bed for the nursery left to get from somewhere like that so more interested in their "non travel system" offering!!!

SP2Bx · 07/06/2021 15:56

Wow I just had to have a massive catch up after not logging on for a week or so!

Feel for everyone suffering with insomnia/aches/pains and this heat! ❤️ I'm 25 weeks this week and afraid/pleased to say I finally feel like I've hit the "sweet spot" of second trimester as I'm thankfully not suffering too much, so making the most of every day as I know it could change at any moment!

Midwife appointment tomorrow, feels like an age since I saw her last! But definitely with those of you saying time is flying... September is going to be here before we know it!

Sillysocks998 · 07/06/2021 16:08

Hi Ladies,
I've still got to start on the buying of purchases. House is still a mess too! So I'm feeling really behind. I'm still struggling with anxiety to be honest. What If something goes wrong and we lost the baby etc. I'm trying to be positive. I'm getting a bit obsessed with the kick counter app! Help. Im still trying to keep things simple in terms of purchases and focus on giving baby love and attention. There's plenty of people and families with less money and things and lovely humble children. Is anyone else still feeling like me? X

Kirky658 · 07/06/2021 16:16

Bump is feeling huge for me right now! I am constantly sleepy about this time of day and need a nap, and can't stop eating. Still waiting on the appt for my glucose tolerance test, nothing has come through yet!

D0nut · 07/06/2021 16:30

Hi @Sillysocks998 I’ve been feeling the same. We struggle for space (still in a 1 bedroom place right now) and for money, but we also know we are still in a good place on the grand scheme of things. I chatted with my mum over the phone this morning and we were saying the same about not going overboard and remembering that so many women have wonderful babies with much less than us. I’ve also stilllll been very anxious about something going wrong. I’m still excited in between, but I’ve not bought much at all yet mainly due to anxiety.
