@Kirky658

Thanks ladies for the support, it is so difficult to know you're doing the right thing isn't it!
Definitely, I said over on a different thread too that I almost wish it wasn’t up to me to decide @Kirky658 🤭
crobo87 · 03/06/2021 20:17

I'm struggling with back/hip pain too. I've got hip issues anyway and arthritis in my lower back which probably doesn't help 🙈

Does anyone know if it's worth getting a birthing/exercise ball?

SP2Bx · 03/06/2021 20:30

@crobo87 Every positive birth story I seem to read features mamas bouncing away on their birth balls in late pregnancy/early labour so I'll definitely be investing!

KHR1 · 03/06/2021 20:31

@Taybz I'm a primary teacher and I turn 28 weeks just after half term. I've been told (after a LOT of chasing) that I'll still be working in class as normal. I don't really understand how that fits with the guidance but apparently local public health have okayed it...

KHR1 · 03/06/2021 20:32

@crobo87 I got a yoga ball when I went overdue last time and it was ace! It was so comfy sitting/bouncing and I'm sure it helped to naturally break my waters when I was induced

Kirky658 · 03/06/2021 21:27

@sillybry that's really good that they pulled you to one side to discuss. Must have been reassuring!
@ftengineerm omg me too! Lol

DH and I are enjoying a couple of nights away at our wedding venue, haven't been back since our big day in 2019 so having a lovely time!

bewitchingnight · 03/06/2021 21:59

Yes struggling with back pain here too. When do you start using a birth ball? Or does it not matter? I might give one a go too if they are comfy!

Taybz · 03/06/2021 23:51

@KHR1 that's what my workplace told me as well during my risk assessment but they didn't mention any changes that would take place from 28 weeks. The guidelines need to be clearer!

@Kirky658 aww that sounds so lovely! Enjoy x

Clouless · 04/06/2021 03:02

@Taybz
Hello- I'm also a teacher. Not sure what's happening when I turn 28 weeks. The guidance seems so vague and my head seems to be waiting for me to make a decision although I think she will support me either way. I really don't know what to do. Obviously want what's best for my baby but don't want to let down my class...

GWhiteley · 04/06/2021 09:22

I'm having serious back issues. In pain at several points during the day, almost every day & sometimes it's unbearable. I came back into the office full time cause I thought it was my dining room chair, but turns out it's pregnancy plus the added problem of compound scoliosis. Have a referral for physio but can't see them helping much.
I spoke to work health & safety at length yesterday & under government legislation for pregnant women if you are struggling & a risk assessment backs that up your employer has to offer you ways to work around it still with being paid in full. This could be reducing your hours so you avoid the times when your in the most pain or if it gets really bad they can suspend you from work on full pay for as long as you need.
I don't want to get to that point, but it's nice to know that option is there if I need it & it's government led, not employer led.

KHR1 · 04/06/2021 12:06

@Taybz it really does, there is no consistency between different schools - I'm on another thread for pregnant teachers and some are wfh, others working outside and then inside with small groups and then there are a few of us in a full class. I'm supposed to be getting the risk assessment on Monday (I never saw the one for before 28 weeks though so I'm not convinced!)
@Clouless it must be hard trying to make the decision but it's good that you get a say, maybe talk to her about what you are comfortable with and see what she says. I wanted to suggest working with groups or outside but haven't had chance to have input really as everyone kept avoiding me asking about the plan

CherLW · 04/06/2021 14:31

@Kirky658 and all debating Covid vaccine... I was adamant that I would wait until after the birth but the more I read up on things like it could be worse in the third trimester and premature birth etc the harder the decision is! I have decided to book mine and my first one is the 17th.... I know I have a couple of weeks to read up more, speak to midwife and set my mind 100%.

I also know someone who has a consultant during her pregnancy and they advised her to get it. Anyone else with consultants had any advice from theirs?

MrsTD88 · 04/06/2021 19:46

@Taybz I asked my midwife about this last week. She said as it stands I should be working from home from 28 weeks if I can (I work in the legal sector so can) and that shielding will likely be unnecessary under government guidelines at the time I hit 28 weeks (05 July). She said even if you've had the first vaccine to still be careful and work from home if possible as can still pick it up before the second dose is effective.

@Kirky658 my first vaccine is scheduled for Thursday. Will have the second before baby arrives. My husband is having his the same day so I'm really happy we'll both be going through it together. We both had Covid last year, we may still have some immunity but not willing to take the risk after how sick we both were.

Taybz · 04/06/2021 19:54

@Clouless @KHR1 @MrsTD88 this makes it even more confusing doesn't it?! I wish government guidelines would be clearer. I'm going to speak to HR next week and see what they say. As it stands, there's not much I can do from home so I'm guessing that means to continue at work.
I'm now wondering whether it may be a good idea to take maternity leave earlier than planned.

Taybz · 04/06/2021 20:37

On another note, is anyone having another private scan soon? My little munchkin has started kicking and moving like crazy and I can wait to see him again! 😍 I'm 25wks currently so not sure when it's best to book it. Any suggestions?

FTEngineerM · 04/06/2021 20:46

Got a 4D one booked for 21st June @Taybz will be 28 weeks.

What one were you thinking of going for?

AdventuresAwait · 04/06/2021 21:00

@Taybz, I've booked a private 4d scan! Booked it for 28+4 and now moved it earlier as I can't wait and also from what I read online. Got it at 27+6 now. Where I go does them from 24 to 34 weeks but nearly everything I read said 27 to 29 weeks is best?

Taybz · 04/06/2021 22:24

I'm not sure which one I want to go for yet. Probably the 4D one but Dh finds them creepy so will need some convincing! 😅 I just can't wait to see our little bubba again. We'll go with 27/28wks then!

crobo87 · 05/06/2021 13:30

Has anyone's morning sickness returned? I've had no sickness since 15 weeks. I'm 24 weeks now and been sick for the last 3 days 😭😭

RaeRae84 · 05/06/2021 13:53

@crobo87 I had a day off last week because I was so sick. Only laying down helped. I've had odd days the last few weeks of feeling really sicky. I'm over 27 weeks now as well as figured these days were behind me. So frustrating isn't it. I definitely don't think the 2nd trimester has been 'full of energy and glow' 🙈

Kirky658 · 06/06/2021 02:06

Getting a bit tired now of these middle of the night insomnia sessions 😬

Bubbles1st · 06/06/2021 07:18

I love it when I come across some of you ladies of other threads, I forget there is a wider world out there sometimes and @FTEngineerM I just have to say the eyeball story this morning made me wince and smile this morning 🙈

OP posts:
FTEngineerM · 06/06/2021 07:43

Haha @Bubbles1st i think that too!

I laughed with DP again typing it, might put it in his baby book 😂. Naturally I spent the next day making sure he could see me with both eyes.

unicornpower · 06/06/2021 08:53

@Kirky658 hello insomnia for me too Sad I am EXHAUSTED today!

Kirky658 · 06/06/2021 09:30

@unicornpower guess it's preparing us for when the babies arrive!

They are still a bit on the big side but I've broken out the maternity dungarees this morning 😍
