Has anyone had contact with their Health Visitor yet?

I thought it would still be telephone contact due to Covid but I had a call from a Health Visitor yesterday asking if they can make a home visit today. She is coming at 3pm so I'm not quite sure what to expect.

AnxiousAnnie86 · 29/04/2021 12:06

@Suite88 I got a text saying I will be having a virtual appointment in may x

TerryRose · 29/04/2021 12:36

@Firsttimeconcerns well done on your for persisting , quite surprised your midwife and doctor didn't look into it more to be honest but good you got sorted

Suite88 · 29/04/2021 12:51

@AnxiousAnnie86 thank you! That's good to know. I will have a quick clean on my lunch hour!

Edelweiss2020 · 29/04/2021 13:11

Yes my HV contacted me at 30 ish weeks I think it was for an initial phonecall, that took an hour and a half! She basically wanted my entire life history and then told me a million things about the service, basic baby care, breast feeding, safe sleeping and stuff. She's rung me once since then to check in and is ringing again in a few weeks just to check everything is okay. I'm now 34 weeks, I'm under the MH midwife though so not sure if I'm getting extra support than normal because of that. On my appointment sheet it says you usually see the HV at 36 weeks for the first time.

On another note, little one has been breech since 28 weeks and has finally turned 🥳🥳 He's now got his head near my left hip, so not quite in the right place but on his way there!

Nesski · 29/04/2021 14:28

@Edelweiss2020 oooooo did you feel him turn?

Regarding HV, nope, it didn't even cross my mind that one should be contacting me, will ask midwife at my appointment this weekend!

Suite88 · 29/04/2021 18:18

@Edelweiss2020 those are the same topics that the health visitor covered this afternoon. She was here for about an hour and said that she would visit again when baby is around 10 days old.

Ps. Congrats on baby turning! That is great news

Opticabbage · 29/04/2021 18:36

Had health visitor round yesterday. I was a bit "errr why are you here?" and my little boy was so excited someone was allowed in the house that he kept singing twinkle twinkle little star at her, on repeat. But she was very nice and went over the things already mentioned.

Edelweiss2020 · 29/04/2021 18:49

I did feel a few very odd twisty/rolly movements a few days ago and then since then I've been able to feel limbs when he's been moving instead of a head jabbing me in my ribs so I knew he'd moved somewhere, I just didn't know where!

BlondePotter · 29/04/2021 20:28

@Edelweiss2020 that's great news!

I had my red book in the post and a letter saying video appt in May with HV when I'll be 36/7 weeks.

34 week appt today and baby is head down and 3/5 engaged. Everything else was all good which is a relief ☺️

I'm 33 weeks and not heard anything about HV. My midwife has been pretty useless at telling me. Important things should I pester her? Plus I'm going to be moving soon. Might be after might be before baby birth

BlondePotter · 29/04/2021 21:53

@Sitchervice my midwife hasn't mentioned HV at all, I just randomly got the book in the post about 2 weeks ago 🤷🏼‍♀️

@BlondePotter that is random... But also a little creepy. Like... They are watching you 😂👀

AlRRRR · 30/04/2021 08:05

I remember HV only coming after 1st was born but can’t be sure now hahah, also don’t remember how I got the red book but think they brought it after she was born?

Anyone else feeling pressure feelings down on the cervix area? I’m 32+ 1 and it start this week.

Where’s everyone else at in terms of gestation?

AnxiousAnnie86 · 30/04/2021 08:28

@AlRRRR I was trying to remember this with first but can't! I'm sure the health visitor only came after she was born? And also I can't remember if they gave you the red book at hospital or at first midwife visit? Hmmm

Cervix feeling, not pressure as such but honestly last night felt like she was either head butting or kicking her way out! It was the worst feeling!! I'm 31 currently, c section at 38 planned x

Nesski · 30/04/2021 08:57

@airrrr feeling really heavy down there and only 32 weeks! Worse when I'm upright and walking

WaitingForNormality · 30/04/2021 09:02

I remember HV coming round at about 35wks with my first (and then a few times after baby arrived), but this time I've not heard anything from them. Not too concerned as I didn't find them particularly useful last time around anyway! Wink

NinaMimi · 30/04/2021 10:09

I had call from HV last week but first I received a letter saying date and time of call. I’m not sure the midwife instigates it (mine never mentioned it) but I suppose it can’t hurt to ask her about it.
It was a pretty causal call. Just asked how I was getting on and what services they do. She also gave me a good website for breastfeeding advice (global health media). Then said they will do a home visit when baby is 10-15 days old.

Waitingforbabypage · 30/04/2021 11:10

There is so much pressure on my cervix and in my bum, I couldn't even sit down last night. Is this baby deciding she might want to cause a bit of havoc and arrive early or just another fun pgp pain? I haven't slept in days, snatching a couple of hours here and there to keep going but I feel like utter garbage.

Nesski · 30/04/2021 11:29

@Waitingforbabypage Flowers just a little more suffering until we meet the baby, hang in there! Do you need to work? I finish end of May and have a week off next week, literally so excited!

Waitingforbabypage · 30/04/2021 11:58

@Nesski thankfully I'm still furloughed until maternity kicks in on the 1st June. Just the home and kids to look after.
I'm going to write all of the various ailments down in a letter to myself for if I ever become broody again or think it would be good to try for another. 😂😂😂
And of course with the house move looming, various covid factors still in the way and my OH working full time, it's down to me to pack to move so there's no real chance to just rest.

TerryRose · 30/04/2021 13:37

Started packing my labour and hospital bag, the list I am working on suggests
6-8 vests
6-8 babygros

Now does this seem enough or too much since it will be a summer baby ? Sorry I'm so clueless 🙈🤣🤣

Sitchervice · 30/04/2021 14:50

@TerryRose given that it litterly hailed again today. I think your safe to take a mix of clothing. I'm going to be taking jumpers as well because is it even spring?

Nesski · 30/04/2021 15:19

@Waitingforbabypage all good intentions with the list, I hear how some women will forget about all the woes and suffering as soon as their ovaries start jittering Grin

@TerryRose I haven't bothered yet and will do it beginning of June when I get off, might have a better idea of weather then but I'm due end of June. Pack some cardigans and a pair of baby joggers (so cute!) And also hat and socks! You can always wrap/blanket em too!

Waitingforbabypage · 30/04/2021 16:32

@TerryRose I've packed 6 vests 6 babygrows- one of those is super cute so I'm wanting that one for her coming home outfit, 2 hats and 2 pairs of scratch mitts (but the babygrows have turn over sleeves) a little cardie and a blanket.
A full pack of size 1 nappies a pack of water wipes (which are waaaay heavier than baby wipes)
A pack of premade formula bottles incase breast feeding doesn't happen. And for myself I have 2 pairs of jammies and a nightie, a pair of slippers, 5 pairs of massive knickers, a pack of maternity pads, a pack of nipple pads, comfy joggers and top to come home in unless I'm feeling fancy then I'll get OH to bring some actual clothes in.
