@swifft I'd be the same but it'll be nothing they won't have seen or heard before! I'm sure they get someone in a similar situation on a near weekly basis 😊 And it'd be worse if it was waters and you hadn't rung them.

BethannieW · 28/05/2021 10:55

@swiftt
Def call them to and ask to go in to get it checked out. My waters broke early with my first (a little, not a big gush), and then stopped leaking as baby’s head moved down and blocked the way.

Wasn’t induced very quickly at all, and ended up with a womb infection which kept me in hospital postpartum. (This is very unlikely to happen if you stand your ground - but it def can!)

Have since been into triage several times with later births, worrying about the same thing. Everyone turned out to be wee overnight, but the midwifes would still prefer to see you!

swiftt · 28/05/2021 10:56

Thanks all. I called triage and they’ve asked me to monitor it today and call back if it carries on leaking. They think it could have just been more discharge than usual at this stage.

MimiDaisy11 · 28/05/2021 11:22

@Waitingforbabypage

I've never heard of a midwife refusing a sweep before. That's weird. Sorry you have a grumpy one.

----

Good luck everyone! I've not been on this page that much in past week so see things are happening for some. I'm due the 8th but pretty sure I'm going to be over as it's my first and haven't really felt anything. My next midwife appointment is a few days after the due date. I hope I don't have to be induced but will probably agree to it.

PinkPlantCase · 28/05/2021 12:00

I’ve been toying with whether or not to buy this book -

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1999806433?pf_rd_p=cc4ce6b4-a7a4-44b0-b7ba-d41fbd176c2f&pf_rd_r=GB3V6GXA82D74MZDT05W&pd_rd_wg=KUEMQ&pd_rd_w=nL5lw&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&pd_rd_r=098abd93-6d58-49fa-9e66-39475d732def

I’ve been quite a keen reader in pregnancy. It’s the book that midwife Sara Wickham produced on behalf of AIMs.

I think it’s good to be as informed as possible but I feel like I already know a lots about what it means to be induced, the process and how and induced labour is different to a non-induced one. Idk if reading more about it will just stress me out further if I do need an induction.

Anyway I thought it’d be worth sharing with you ladies in case it was of interest to any of you.

DollyParton2 · 28/05/2021 13:24

Update from me! Went in to be induced today at 38+3 but on inspection found I’m already 2cm dilated (other than pelvic soreness no other symptoms of that!) so I can skip induction and getting waters broken in a few hours. Good luck ladies we’ve got this Smile

Mackie2020 · 28/05/2021 13:29

@PinkPlantCase

I listened to this podcast about inductions and found it really reassuring;

MimiDaisy11 · 28/05/2021 13:30

@PinkPlantCase
Thanks for sharing. I had a look at the sample pages and it seems quite useful as I don't know that much.

MimiDaisy11 · 28/05/2021 13:31

@DollyParton2
Good luck with everything :)

AlRRRR · 28/05/2021 13:31

@DollyParton2 good luck!!!!

Humpty11 · 28/05/2021 13:43

@DollyParton2 good luck 😃! All these babies are wanting to come now!

Mine, however, seems very comfortable and at 38+2 I’m not feeling anything other than heartburn and the need to wee every 5 minutes!

AlRRRR · 28/05/2021 13:46

@Humpty11 Do you ever get any period type aches or stabbing pains in the cervix area alongside pressure? Just wondering when you say you’re comfortable, just wondered as i’m 36, and so not 🤣🤣🤣

Humpty11 · 28/05/2021 13:50

@AIRRRR I’m not particularly comfortable, but I think she is in there 🤣. I keep getting period type cramps and some weird shooting type of pains but I think it’s just her wiggling around rather than anything exciting happening!
I did manage to express some colostrum last week and felt like my uterus was contracting so stopped but I might try again over the weekend to see if it starts anything off 🤞🏼.
Hopefully your symptoms are something to get excited about though!

Fishingforhappiness · 28/05/2021 14:31

@suite88 my sweep was a bit of a flop. As I'm only 38 weeks, I kind of expected it. My cervix was posterior and not open. 1/5 engaged. It didn't hurt was over in 30seconds and my midwife is super lovely. She said she gave it a good poke and tickle Wink and hope it would stimulate prostaglandins. Her bet was that I would need the oxytocin drip and be prepared to consider an epidural as a 38 week first baby.. she knows I want to avoid... but said its not point scoring on who goes through the most pain, which is a good point.

Suite88 · 28/05/2021 15:35

@Fishingforhappiness thanks so much for the update and letting me know how you found it. I'm glad to hear it quick and wasn't painful.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that it stimulates some prostaglandins for you. It sounds like you have a great midwife too.

Sitchervice · 28/05/2021 17:28

Oh god. Somethings really upset me regarding work and I feel its so stupid. I got removed from a work WhatsApp group, so now I don't get any important updates and I can't shair the news of my sons birth. (if he ever comes out)

Another person who went on maternity before me was never removed, shared her babies birth and everyone congratulated her. I just feel so segregated even though they were so nasty to me leading up to my maternity leave 😭

PinkPlantCase · 28/05/2021 18:25

@Mackie2020 thanks for the recommendation! I couldn’t follow the link but I found the pregnancy wellness podcast episode on induction. I agree it reassuring though I found it odd that they didn’t talk about any of the risks of induction or the way it changes labour. I kept thinking they were going to come to it and they didn’t Confused

Awh @Sitchervice that’s such a shame Flowers are you planning to go back there after Mat leave?

BethannieW · 28/05/2021 18:36

@AIRRRR
I’ve been getting those shooting pains down below for weeks. They seemed to come on for me once baby’s head moved really far into my pelvis - I think I was about 34w. (I’m now 39+2.) I don’t think it’s much of a sign that baby’s coming unfortunately. If it were, I’d have delivered by now! I wish!

AlRRRR · 28/05/2021 18:42

@BethannieW Oh yes I agree with you there! Just babies head rotating round and round playing fun movement games 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Surfermummytobe · 28/05/2021 19:14

Hi ladies I'm 39 weeks pregnant tomorrow! I've been doing a little reading up on castor oil to induce labour if I do go over due.. not sure about it though as I've heard it can cause the baby to pass meconium. I remember putting castor oil on my eyelashes a couple of years ago to promote growth, it seems unusual to take this orally 😬

AlRRRR · 28/05/2021 19:27

I think sometimes, you can’t do anything to kickstart labour, it just happens when it happens ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Surfermummytobe · 28/05/2021 19:32

@AlRRRR

I agree, definitely!! I'm really hoping for a water birth near home at the local centre and don't fancy messing with things , it doesn't sit right with me reading about it and was wondering if anyone had tried it before:)
PinkPlantCase · 28/05/2021 19:54

@Surfermummytobe I’ve heard that castor oil is a really bad idea, it basically just gives you the shits which can cause contractions but not necessarily get labour going properly.

If it does get labour going then the diarrhoea and potentially vomiting/dehydration doesn’t set you up well for a nice water birth.

AlRRRR · 28/05/2021 20:16

@Surfermummytobe Me too, Mw led birth unit, mine is really quiet, 2 births a week max so I’m hoping all goes well and I can go there! I’m 36 weeks + 2 days, have you been for a look around yours?

I have all my appointments at mine as they offer that package from 28 weeks, so I get to get used to walking into the place in a calm state 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 (2nd baby btw) x

Yaay that sounds so amazing 💕 my fingers and toes are crossed for you!! Sounds so calming and relaxing. I've had a wee look around the place and I love it. I go there for my antenatal appointments, it's about 5 min walk away too which is ideal, I'm really hoping I can birth there! I'm booked for a membrane sweep on my due date so I'm hoping things will go well from there:)
