Morning everyone, is anyone else consultant led or have been before?

I've only just realised there has been no mention of a further appointment with the consultant. Yes my care path has been discussed and my growth scans booked but no further consultation.

Will this happen at all? Does it depend on the growth scans?

If anyone can share their experience I would be grateful.
Thanks

Hi @Bubbles1st.

I'm consultant led but seem to be the opposite!

I had my consultant appointment at 13 weeks which was great. But no additional scans or care booked, just a GTT date. I do have my next consultant appointment booked for 36 weeks but that's all. She said that's the next time I see her (unless midwife refers me with anything before 36 weeks).

I didn't think anything of it at the time but since reading/hearing things, I've been wondering if I should be having anything in between but maybe it depends on my measurements at midwife appointments? She said I'd need blood tests in 2nd and 3rd trimester too (hypothyroidism) but after reading your post, I realise I don't know when those will be taken so must ask my midwife at me home visit in 2 weeks!

Maybe they just see you after the scans only if it's needed?

Sorry not much help but that's my current experience xx

KHR1 · 25/04/2021 09:17

@Bubbles1st I'm consultant led too but have got more appointments booked in. I had a phone appointment at 14 weeks, an in person one after my 20 week scan and they've sent me letters for in person appointments after my growth scans at 32 and 36 weeks.
The reasons for being consultant led might change how much or how little they see people (I have quite a few different reasons) or they might see how other things like the growth scans go for you first - I don't know though. I only saw my consultant about twice last pregnancy, once at about 20 weeks and once at 36 weeks as far as I can remember. Might be worth asking your midwife, they might be able to find out for you or explain.

Bubbles1st · 25/04/2021 09:29

@AdventuresAwait @KHR1

I have my 20 week scan Tuesday and see the hospital midwife after so I will ask her, if she doesn't know I will wait until my midwife at 25 weeks.

I'm sure I was told though I'd see consultant after each scan to review, maybe it's only if needed.

I'm not worried but just seems a lot was discussed and agreed at only 13 weeks if not followed up!

@bewitchingnight @AdventuresAwait I'm sure we'll be feeling regular movements soon.

@AdventuresAwait it wasn't mentioned at my 12 week scan either. I have found private scans to be so much more informative and engaging. My 20 week scan isn't for a few weeks yet but glad I know that now in case it takes a while to feel regular movements as I (hopefully) won't worry so much knowing the placenta is at the front.

MrsTD88 · 25/04/2021 10:03

@Bubbles1st I'm consultant led too. I saw the consultant at 16 weeks as I'd mentioned to the midwife after my 12 week scan I was considering an elective section (first was an emergency). She said I usually wouldn't see the consultant until 25 weeks but because I had an idea of what I wanted to do they were happy to see me earlier to answer any questions I might have. I have a growth scan booked for 28 weeks and will see the consultant afterwards. She said I will have growth scans every 4 weeks after that and won't see my own midwife very much in the third trimester.

Sceptre86 · 25/04/2021 15:04

@Bubbles1st i am consultant led and have been for every pregnancy asking dd there were concerns about her growth. I saw the consultant at 21 weeks, will then see them again at 30 weeks and then probably again at 36 weeks. I have growth scans booked in too.

Kirky658 · 25/04/2021 18:19

Hi ladies hope everyone is well, been to Wales for the weekend and climbed the Great Orme! Have done something to my ankle though so not impressed as it means no running for a while 😳 scan on Wednesday!!!! Need a hand hold as very worried as not sure if I've felt movement or not x

SP2Bx · 25/04/2021 19:31

Scanxiety is REAL but I wouldn't be worried about not having felt movement with first baby yet @Kirky658 , midwife said to me it could be as late as 23-24 weeks! I've read so many people say that baby was really active on 20wk scan yet they couldn't feel a thing! Thankfully you don't have too long a wait now :) Great work on the hiking - and hope the ankle eases up soon! xx

bewitchingnight · 25/04/2021 19:52

Yes @Kirky658 I agree, try not to worry (easier said than done I know!) The baby was moving so much on our scan on Friday and I couldn't feel a thing, we've still got a whole month where it's normal to start feeling them.

Scotti84 · 25/04/2021 20:16

Sorry about the injury @Kirky658, but good on you for getting out and about, hope you had a good weekend! I would try not to worry about movement, like the other ladies have said, by my scan was also lots of movement but i couldn't feel anything, yesterday and today I've noticed more, I think she was waiting until after the scan to start really booting me!

On another note... heartburn, I'm getting it every night and after I eat chocolate! Nightmare!!!

Kirky658 · 25/04/2021 20:21

@sp2bx @bewitchingnight @scotti84 thanks ladies that really helped me to feel better ❤️ I think I feel little squiggles when I prod my belly gently so DH keeps doing it now, thinks its funny bless him! He is so excited. We are hoping to do a mini gender reveal on bank hol Monday, DH's parents coming to visit from Wales and my parents will be there. I'm making a cake too, excited to keep another big secret for a few days hehe x

SP2Bx · 25/04/2021 22:37

Aw that's so exciting @Kirky658 , what a special day that will be 🥰

bewitchingnight · 26/04/2021 07:07

Aw that sounds like such a nice day!

leftitlate37 · 26/04/2021 08:36

Happy Monday folks! hope everyone had a good weekend:)
@Kirky658 sorry to hear about your ankle :( but good work climbing the great orme!
21 weeks today and feeling proper bloated, guessing this is all baby but i never feel empty - like when you are hungry, and feel totally empty, even when im hungry now I just always feel FULL! definitely noticed the last week bump at the bottom is getting more obvious, not sure theyll be any hiding it now! Had wanted to get 20w scan done before telling ppl at work so relieved thats now done so dont mind if people know.
Good luck for those of u with scans this week! gender reveal with family sounds ace fun @kirky658!

Scotti84 · 26/04/2021 09:44

Not sure if this will be new info to any of you, but a good friend of mine who just had her baby recommended me this book. There aren't any classes over here so thought I'd give it a read and omg, after chapter one I'm already looking at birth a completely different way. It explains what happens to your body and the muscles and what you can do to help. I love stuff like this, it's info I wouldn't have got from my dr or midwife, and im very practical, if i understand how my body works in labour and know what to do to aid it, I find it much easier. Might be completely different on the day like, but it's calmed me already, I'll post a pic if anyone else wants to have a look, it's on amazon.

Bubbles1st · 26/04/2021 10:00

Thanks @Scotti84 that's the comp ynwhomive sighed up to do my hypno birthing with, hopefully the online course will be nice and thorough, I like the idea of the book to pick up as and when after wards though so will see about it

OP posts:
Scotti84 · 26/04/2021 10:06

@Bubbles1st ahh that's good to know. The books quite detailed so i imagine the classes will be really good too.

Kirky658 · 26/04/2021 10:13

Still considering the NCT classes, they've reduced the price to £175 as it's now going to be on Zoom, still think they're worth it?

SP2Bx · 26/04/2021 10:50

@Scotti84 I bought the Positive Birthing Company online hypnobirthing course a few weeks ago when it was on offer, although I think it's only £40 anyway. It's just videos to watch at your own pace, with a few extra resources to download. I'm only a few sections in but I'd definitely recommend if you're liking the book!

AdventuresAwait · 26/04/2021 10:59

@Scotti84, I've signed up to their online course but didn't realise they had a book so I'm going to order it now. Thanks!

bluemagicalsky · 26/04/2021 12:26

@Kirky658 I'm doing NCT classes and hypnobirthing. I've never done either before but I've heard really positive things from NCT and want to feel as prepared as I can, and for hubby too to really get and feel involved

SP2Bx · 26/04/2021 15:33

Anyone else had really bad lower back ache at all recently in pregnancy? 18+5 today and woke up aching all over, but as the day has gone on my lower back has just got worse and worse - I've had to sneak away from my laptop for a soak in the bath because I'm THAT uncomfortable and it feels soooo nice I don't want to move!!

crobo87 · 26/04/2021 15:35

@SP2Bx I'm exactly the same.
My lower back is awful. Are you working from home? If so, are you sitting properly to work? X

CobleCloud · 26/04/2021 16:01
