A midwife told me this and i have a friend who has just had her third dd and she said her labour with this one was hellish, ten times worse than either of the last two.

Just wondered if others agreed?

i'm getting pretty bugged out reading this, especially because, like QoQ, this baby is a surprise.

TheQueenOfQuotes · 03/11/2007 22:55

expat - haven't read the rest of the thread (just the OP) - what are the rest saying (I can't be ar*ed to read it all LOL).

PS have you done a definite working test yet??

expatinscotland · 03/11/2007 22:57

yes, QofQ. Flame sent me two in date tests.

both positive straightaway.

TheQueenOfQuotes · 03/11/2007 22:58
  • so when are you due (sorry I'm sure there's another thread on it somewhere - perhaps even your initial one - but I'm feeling lazy )
expatinscotland · 03/11/2007 22:59

2 july 2008

expatinscotland · 03/11/2007 23:02

dd1 will be 5 and dd2 2.5.

TheQueenOfQuotes · 03/11/2007 23:05

oooo you've done the same as me - nice even age gaps between then all LOL. I have 3yrs 3 months between DS1 and DS2, and 3yrs 6 months between DS2 and DS3

expatinscotland · 03/11/2007 23:10

i don't think dd2 is going to be happy.

she's used to being the wee star.

becklesparkler · 04/11/2007 11:14

All my friends with 3 say the third was the easiest although quite often too quick for pain relief!
DS1 was 2 days pre-labour and 18 hours established labour.
DS2 was 2 days pre-labour and 9 1/2 hours established labour.

Am hoping DC3 will be half that again! I know my Mum had the 2 days pre-labour with her third but then he was nearly born in the ambulance on the way to hospital! Scary stuff.

sweetkitty · 04/11/2007 11:21

Am feeling more happy about third births now, am planning another homebirth if I can and DP as usual isn't too happy about it, I'm going to tell him it will probably be so quick their won't be time to go to the hospital.

jemimap · 04/11/2007 20:22

I just had my 3rd baby 2 weeks ago, was 20 MINUTES start to finish!! 1 minute pushing stage! so, for me.. by far the easiest but still horrifically painful of course. No time for any pain relief either. Generally, i think 3rd births are the easiest and def the fastest.

maxbear · 04/11/2007 20:32

Lots of midwives do say that third ones are awkward but I personally don't think that this is usually the case. In my experience it is unusual to have a difficult third one if the second one has been problem free. I think as someone else said that you think you know what is going to happen as you have experienced it yourself twice before, but each one is different. I have admitted lots of women in early labour with their third and they end up going home again not really in established labour, I think because they were so surprised that their second was so much quicker than their first that they are worried that the third will be even quicker and that they will not make it to the hospital in time. Usually the third is a bit quicker than the second but not on the same scale as the second from the first iyswim. I want to have a third and would have no worries about the birth, (although my second was 2lb bigger than my first so might be a bit worried about the size).

bubblepop · 04/11/2007 22:19

well my third was definately the worst birth . slower than the second but still barely made it to the hospital on time. the actual pushing stage was much more painful and i was verging on hysterical (not normal for me!normally as cool as a cucumber)
However, i believe that it was due to babys position rather than it just being my third.

bambi06 · 05/11/2007 20:30

i st 8.12 lbs, about 26 hours labour and ventouse..second 7.12 lbs about a few hours niggly pains then in two hours she was born..very easy!! and third very recently 23 days late!! 4 hours very painful labour ..=10.12lbs thats why!!

frazzledbutcalm · 06/11/2007 11:26

I agree with you bubblepop. My third (i've got 4) was definitely the worst. Can't even begin to describe the agony but it was because she was lying back to back - horrific! However, no4 was a breeze - no pain at all, pushed him out easily also!

christie2 · 06/11/2007 12:58

no way, my third was the best, drug free, just gas, reasonably short labour and textbook delivery. I was so proud of myself for not opting for epidural as I really wanted to try without.

BigBlueHat · 06/11/2007 16:42

My third was definately the easiest. There was quite a long build up but once labour really got going it was quick and the end was very quick - one puff of gas and air and one push and she was out.

Actually the last bit was so quick that I almost didn't have time to take my knickers off !!

emma2309 · 07/11/2007 13:58

My first baby was a emergancy c-section at 34 weeks. my second was at 37 weeks induced and he was 5 hours and my third was 37 mins from my first contraction to birth at 39 weeks. The third time i went into hosp for a check up and they checked me and i was 8cm with no contractions, nothing not even a back ache. I got to 10 and still nothing then boom it was all go and 37 mins later there he was a nice healthy 10 lbs and it was a real shock. The doctor said this was unsual so don't worry girls but the more babies you have the chances of this happening are greater. So from 37 weeks this time with my fourth, im not leaving the house, can you imagine having your baby in tesco's?

gatleygirl · 07/11/2007 20:12

Had three planned sections - so never felt a thing for any of them! Scar keeps getting bigger tho......

honeyapple · 09/11/2007 18:04

Just had my third baby on Monday...

It was longer than my second, but I coped the best - probably as was a home birth and I felt much more relaxed.

3andnomore · 09/11/2007 18:09

preggers...doubt you really can generalise this, but I did hear this aswell when I was pg with my 3rd...I didn't think much off it, lol..however, for me it was true...the labour was horrible and I ended up transferring from Home (planned Homebirth) to Hospital and had an Emergency C-section in the end...and my previous 2 were both pretty natural Births with only a little gas and air in the last hour of labour...

3andnomore · 09/11/2007 18:10

congrats expat....just read you are expecting.
