Eee! So exciting isn’t it? How far are you now?

I’m finding myself putting things off so I have stuff to do down the line but then realise they could be here next week!!! Madness

lucymagoo · 26/04/2021 16:43

I am 37 weeks today! He could officially arrive any day now 😂 although I'm sure we have another few weeks. How about you?

I'm the same! The "I'll do that another day" part of my brain is like "well what if you go into labour tomorrow??" I'm rushing around doing everything today just in case.

Hey everyone! Cannot believe we are nearly in May! I was 37 weeks on Monday and am hoping this little one decides to make an early arrival :P I'm not terribly struggling or anything I just can't wait 😂
Hospital bags are packed and the pram is here ready to go. I feel like the pregnancy has flown by but has now massively slowed down. Any little twinge I'm hoping it's the start of contractions.
May sound crazy but is anyone else really excited to go into labour and go through the birth. I see so many posts about what to do if you are scared etc but it's just honestly never frightened me

mouldygrapes · 29/04/2021 13:45

Hi all!
37 weeks tomorrow. Plan is to be induced at just over 39 weeks as babe is a bit on the small side.
Don’t feel anywhere near ready so hope she doesn’t make an escape before then!
Hope you’re all doing ok

hereforallthehelp · 30/04/2021 09:17

Eee! We’re all so close now! I’ll be 37 weeks on Monday - I know I’m not sure why I’m waiting to do it I think it’s going to be today’s job!

I’ve been referred for a growth scan but it’s mainly due to having 4 different midwives measuring me at my appointments that my chart is all over the shop but the next date they can do is Wednesday 😐 so I’m just trying to call the hospital to see if there is anything earlier. I’m hoping to go to a birth centre so crossing everything that everything is ok!

I don’t feel prepared at all either - need to get onto the hypnobirthing course too 👀 has anyone else done it?

Also what are you planning to wear for the birth? I’ve read button down nighties are good but can’t find any online and had a look in a few shops too?

Serz88 · 30/04/2021 23:24

I did a couple of free taster courses which touched on aspects of it which were really good, I bought a book (my partner got the audio version) and we signed up to the positive birth company hypnobirthing course online and have watched about 20% of the videos but they are really good! Just lots on how to help your body do what it's meant to do and mentally cope with any changes that may happen. Lots of bits aimed at birth partners too which considering how shut out partners have been during our pregnancies due to covid, I think is really important and I know it will help him when the time comes as he doesn't cope well even if I'm just ill as he just wants to help me and hates not being able to, so he's definitely taking it on board and planning to be really on top of it which is amazing x

LemonRizzle · 01/05/2021 07:46

Hi ladies, I'm new to the group Smile just woke up with the realisation that unless he/she has different ideas.. I'll be having a baby this month!! Shock

lucymagoo · 04/05/2021 11:54

I'm hoping for a water birth so just wearing a maternity bra, if that 😂
Just had my 38 week appointment and all on track still, engaged at 60th centile, really positive.
How's everyone feeling? I had some exhausted days over the weekend but feeling much better today prepping the final bits

OP posts:
Serz88 · 04/05/2021 21:11

I was hoping for a waterbirth too but with gestational diabetes I have to be in the labour ward where there is only 1 pool so highly unlikely I will get the chance. I think I will still plan on wearing my bikini top I bought as its nice and easy to take off for skin to skin once baby is born (will also wipe clean quite nicely as they don't always come out sparkling clean :P ). I also love skin to skin with my partner, so I'm not planning on wearing a top and will probably make him take his off as I really do not want to labour laying down so will likely have my arms round his shoulders or something like that.
I honestly cannot wait to get into the hospital and for it all to start. I am just really hoping to avoid being induced!

Finallybfp · 11/05/2021 18:14

Hi everyone hope everyone is well. I’m due 27th may I’m currently 37+5 days . I had a routine midwife appointment today and have been offered a sweep next Friday at 39 +1day. Has anyone else had sweeps and would the recommend them . Smile I’m undecided whether I want one or not to try being on labour .

lucymagoo · 11/05/2021 18:38

@Finallybfp did they say the reason for the sweep so early? I'm planning to decline them personally as there doesn't seem to be any research to suggest they help things along anymore than just waiting, you have to almost be in labour (aka fully effaced and somewhat dilated) for them to even perform it properly, plus they can be painful/uncomfortable with a risk of infection. Some people on the other hand have sworn they work and say they aren't painful at all 🤷🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
Serz88 · 11/05/2021 18:42

I was also offered one on Monday when I was 39 weeks as I have Gestational diabetes and they will only allow me to go to 40+4.
I declined for similar reasons. Not enough actual causal evidence, I know plenty of women who have had 3 or 4 sweeps and still nothing so I would rather avoid the possible discomfort. There is also a chance of it rupturing your waters and of your body isn't ready to go into labour then just because your waters go doesn't mean its going to start something and then you end up with induction or c section as they won't leave you too long once you lose your waters.
These are my personal feelings on them, obviously I know some people feel they are beneficial :)

Finallybfp · 11/05/2021 21:11

There is no reason for it I’ve had a very straight forward low risk pregnancy the full way through. So I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to accept to have a sweep or not . I do work with a girl who had a sweep at 39weeks +3 4 weeks ago and it’s her first baby , the reason they offered her one was they said she was having a large baby . She had the sweep 10.30am on the Tuesday and her waters broke on the Wednesday lunch time , she gave birth at 9.30pm the wed night . He baby was also born 7lbs 8oz so not a big baby at all .
It’s made me totally second guess what the midwifes say.
Thank you @lucymagoo and @Serz88 for your feeling towards them . Smile x

Serz88 · 11/05/2021 21:29

Yeah I really don't think midwives should comment on the size of babies. I haven't heard from one woman that they have correctly 'guessed' the babies size. A friend was told 2 weeks before she gave birth her baby was over 8lbs and she was born at 6lb 1oz! Caused her a lot of stress for nothing.
Bump measuring is also a complete nonsense science. I was apparently measuring well over the 97th percentile line, had a growth scan and measured just above the 50th.

lucymagoo · 11/05/2021 21:35

@Serz88 I was measuring on the 10th centile and a growth scan also put me just above the 50th 😂

OP posts:
Serz88 · 11/05/2021 22:21

It's mad isnt it!?

lucymagoo · 11/05/2021 22:41

@Finallybfp definitely do your own research and make your own informed decision on it. Remember it's your choice completely and may well be worth going for, I'm very keen for this one to come out now so I definitely get it!Smile

OP posts:
Serz88 · 11/05/2021 22:46

@finallybfp I agree with @lucymagoo my hypnobirthing course uses B.R.A.I.N to make decisions - Benefits, Risks, Alternatives, Instinct, Nothing. Its definitely helped me so far :)

I am definitely ready for this baby to make an appearance!!! I'm due next Monday but am really hoping to go any day now :P

hereforallthehelp · 11/05/2021 22:46

I hate the measuring so much - I’ve had 5 different midwives for my appointments and all of them saying how unreliable it is and not sure why they do it this way (with the paper tape measure!) it just causes so much unnecessary stress going to growth scans etc! Rant over 😂

lucymagoo · 11/05/2021 23:06

@Serz88 yes I also use BRAIN! It's really helpful, hoping I can remember all the hypnobirthing things and have a lovely calm, smooth labour.

Also due on Monday but had loads of braxton hicks today. My husband is certain the little one is coming early and specifically on Thursday for some reason Grin

OP posts:
Serz88 · 11/05/2021 23:27

@lucymagoo fingers crossed for you for Thursday!
Is anyone else fed up of hearing what everyone thinks of the bump has it dropped are you high, because of this it must be a girl/boy etc. I'm just like sod off 😂

mouldygrapes · 13/05/2021 20:04

Hope everyone is doing OK and not too impatient/uncomfortable.
I’m going in to be induced on Sunday so on the final stretch now!

Serz88 · 13/05/2021 20:34

Comfort wise doing fine, patience not so much :P
How are you feeling about the induction?? And how comes you're having one if you don't mind me asking

mouldygrapes · 13/05/2021 20:46

@Serz88 baby is measuring small so they don’t like you going much over 39 weeks due to risk of stillbirth. Between 3rd and 10th centile.
I’m feeling ok with it - it’s been the plan for weeks so I’ve made my peace with it. Have to be on labour ward for monitoring but that’s OK too.
Hopefully not too long for you!
