Birthday glass of Prosecco

Bear with me here - pregnancy number two and I didn't touch a drop of alcohol with my first. I'm 14 weeks pregnant and tomorrow is my birthday. I really fancied a taste of Prosecco and was putting it to the back of my mind until a friend said if I'm eating, just to go for it.

I'm inclined not to and I know what the NHS say, but I just wondered what people do in reality!

With my first DC I had 5 glasses of Prosecco throughout 9 months - all at special occasions. The first being to toast a loved one at a funeral in which I was exactly 12 weeks. If you really want a glass treat yourself 💕

Cbd333 · 13/01/2021 21:41

@Britannah my lovely mum's funeral is on Wednesday, another reason I wanted a glass. It's been a horrific few months. Thank you for your reply x

One is fine I have had a small glass on 2 occasions in pregnancy

LittleTiger007 · 13/01/2021 21:56

Happy birthday! Def have a small glass. Flowers I had a glass at Christmas (22 weeks pregnant now). I made it last a couple of hours and it was with food.

Chelyanne · 13/01/2021 22:12

With our eldest I had half a glass of red wine on a special occasion. Not had a drop after bfp with the other 4. This time, I'm teetotal and have been since Jan 2018 so no need to think about it.
Giving up booze is one of the best things I've ever done.

Bamboo15 · 13/01/2021 22:14

A glass would be fine I’m sure.

Smoa9 · 13/01/2021 22:18

I wouldn't have it if it was me, alcohol is a toxin. However one glass won't do anything and lots of women have the odd glass.

Mammaaof · 13/01/2021 22:20

I wouldn't but it's up to you really.

happymummy12345 · 13/01/2021 22:27

I did. But then I drank throughout my pregnancy as well. Nowhere near as much as usual, and weaker drinks than usual. By which I mean I have a very high alcohol tolerance and rarely get drunk or hangovers. Id have to drink all evening and all night for that to happen. Even then I don't get hangovers and I've never not remembered anything, I always remember regardless of how much I've had to drink. So usually if I have a spirit and mixer I make it strong, between a double and treble, poured freehand. But I made them weak, so a single or less. Or with wine I'd have a small bit topped right up with lemonade. But no way was I not having a drink for 9 months, especially at my wedding.
My mum drank and smoked as normal throughout all 3 of her pregnancies. My Nan the same both times. All fine. And I know others who have as well.

anotherboyontheway · 13/01/2021 23:02

Go for it! Expecting second baby and have half a glass of champagne on special occasions like Christmas and birthdays etc. Happy birthday xx

finallyfoundmyself · 13/01/2021 23:05

I had one glass on Christmas Day with my meal when I was pregnant with my now 3 year old Smile

Lifeonmars12 · 13/01/2021 23:26

I’m 24 weeks and had a couple of bucks fizzes at Christmas and new year.
I’ve also had some shandies at the weekends, by that I mean like a tiny amount of beer and the rest all lemonade.
As long as you aren’t on the shots I don’t see a problem with it.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 13/01/2021 23:31

HappyMummy must have that response ready to go and pastes it right on, always pops up with that exact response on a ‘can I have a glass’ in pregnancy threads.

As soon as I’m through my first trimester (fingers crossed, because I didn’t get that far last time) if it’s a special occasion I’ll have a small glass of champagne or something if it’s an occasion and I fancy it.

CMAYF11 · 14/01/2021 07:14

One glass will be fine.

PFin · 14/01/2021 07:23

When I was not telling anyone I was pregnant yet I had a glass of presecco and everything was fine. We also have a wee tradition of drinking baileys while we put the christmas tree up, its usually a bottle but this year I had one wee tiny measure. Once or twice wont hurt, dilute with lemonade too if you are really unsure.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 14/01/2021 07:25

I wouldn’t and didn’t, but I really doubt there’s any issue with 1

MaverickDanger · 14/01/2021 07:46

I had a couple of sips of Prosecco/wine/beer throughout my pregnancy & then from 39 weeks, had 2 glasses of wine in 3 weeks.

DS is perfectly healthy.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 14/01/2021 07:51

Alcohol damages the developing foetus. It might be low risk to drink just one but you need to ask yourself why would you need to drink at all?

Onedropbeat · 14/01/2021 07:53

I did the same as this

Drank throughout but moderately and weaker drinks

londonmummy1234 · 14/01/2021 08:13

You are completely wrong to do this.

It should be a glass of champagne. Grin

OverTheRainbow88 · 14/01/2021 08:30

If you are going to drink it drink it and enjoy it and don’t give it another thought.

The fact you are posting this makes me think you won’t enjoy it and will feel guilty and maybe regret it... so I probably wouldn’t!

ZenNudist · 14/01/2021 08:32

It will be fine

JemNo66 · 14/01/2021 08:34

I had the odd glass of prosecco during my first pregnancy once I was through the first trimester. Pregnant again (30 weeks), and I had a glass of prosecco Christmas morning and about an inch of wine with my Christmas dinner! To be honest it just gave me heartburn Confused but I enjoyed it whilst I was drinking it!

Runnerduck34 · 14/01/2021 08:34

Go for it, one glass wont hurt.
Ive had 4 dc advice has changed several times flip flopping from ok to have occasional glass to no alcohol at all and back again..and back again...
I had occasional drink when pregnant, a glass on xmas day, a wedding toast etc I dont think one glass of prosecco will do any harm.
Happy Birthday

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 14/01/2021 08:38

I didn't drink during any of my pregnancies. I was pregnant over Xmas each time and toyed with the idea of a drink on Xmas day, but I didn't because I thought what's the point? There are some nice alcohol free versions around.
