Congratulations to all those new mummas!
My little boy Bobby was born yesterday at 5:29am, weighing 7lb12oz! He's absolutely perfect!
After on and off contractions for days they finally started getting regular and stronger about 11:30pm Saturday night, took some paracetamol, went to hospital for about 3am, once examined I was 5cm dilated, the MW ran the pool for me (I didn't even plan a water birth or even think about having one) but it did help! They couldn't properly listen to his heartbeat though so I got out and then contractions came very quick and intense and he was born at 5:29am with just a tiny bit of gas and air and a paracetamol 😂
Made all the difference because I had the most amazing midwife who made me feel so safe and confident all the way through!
Good luck to all the ladies still waiting! You won't be pregnant forever 💕

Mc3209 · 02/11/2020 12:25

Congratulations to all the new arrivals!

My milk didn't come in until day 5 post section, so I had to top up with formula few feeds as he was loosing a tad too much weight. He is gaining again, and I switched to exclusively breast feeding now.
With latch, I find if he is sleepy he wouldn't latch/suckle or if he is too upset. To wake them up a bit strip them down to a nappy and keep tickling behind the ears/hands/feet. Also, I found gently squeezing behind the nipple when he is latched helps him to suckle actively (it basically expresses milk into their mouth).

krissy12 · 02/11/2020 12:35

congratulations on all the new babies and hoping the others aren't waiting to long. I know it could just be a coincidence but I really feel eating pineapple and DTD set me off.

BF hasnt worked out for us at all he hasnt been interested at all cries or falls asleep when hes put near had so much support in the hospital and from community MW but nothing has worked so formula it is

DressingGown87 · 02/11/2020 13:56

@sophs29 congratulations on your little Boy Bobby! Hope your both going ok. Well done you for getting through it with minimal pain relief.

@Mc3209 how you feel post section?

OP posts:
Mc3209 · 02/11/2020 15:12

@DressingGown87 I am still a bit sore, especially when coughing or laughing, but getting there. I can stand up straight most of the time now 😬 I found it it very frustrating in the first few days as I couldn't lift the baby out of his Next2Me in the night for feeding/comforting.
I've ordered an abdominal compression band, every time I bend over I feel like my giblets are going to fall out through my stretched out abdominals 😳
How are you doing?

DressingGown87 · 02/11/2020 16:25

@Mc3209 I found the first week extremely tough moving, and picking her up. I got a band off the physio and it helped loads. But now she is 18days old, I feel fine, and can bend and move normally, so housework has resumed. But do need to monitor how much I do, and how far I walk. Did you have the removal stitches on day 5? How long are you not driving for? I can’t seem to get a straight answer out of them. Hope the band helps you too.

Had my midwife appointment today, baby is nowhere near getting engaged. I’m booked for an induction next Monday and my midwife will check me again this Thursday to see if she can try a sweep but I got the impression she was just trying to cheer me along by offering it 🙈 I don’t think baby is coming on her own this week! Luckily, I am pretty comfy in myself so I’m not too disheartened

Mc3209 · 02/11/2020 17:21

@DressingGown87 driving depends on your insurance provider. Some companies impose 6 weeks ban, whilst others do not. I am going to call mine tomorrow to double check.
Re suture, they've done an intradermal one for me, ie no visible suture on the skin surface, so that doesn't need removing.

That's great to hear about the band! Fingers crossed it will work. I was really hoping to get out of the house with a pram this week before the weather goes to pots, but we have steps leading up to the house and I am not going to be able to get the pram back up those steps (or into the car boot for that matter). Maybe towards the end of the week.

1990shopefulftm · 02/11/2020 18:01

@Sls668 sorry the appointment wasnt more positive.

FirstSurprise001 · 02/11/2020 19:15

@Mc3209 those tips are really great thank you! I spoke to a breastfeeding trained lady last night who said by the sounds of it we’re doing everything right and to just keep going with it. Midwifes came to see him today and he’s managed 3 dirty nappies in 12 hours so they’re really happy with that. Fast forward to this evening and he latched straight on and suckled constant for the whole feed. Even got the milk drunk rolling eyes - could have cried I was so happy! Think he must finally not be so tired from labour/traumatised!

Hope everyone is having a great week so far and for all those still expecting - you’re so close now! Get bouncing on a ball/chair, lots of clary sage oil baths and most importantly - make sure when you do go into labour you speak your mind and get what you want out of YOUR labour.

Nothing I regret more than not sticking up for myself 🙌🏻

1990shopefulftm · 02/11/2020 21:09

Think I might have just had a bloody show but then I lost my mucus plug a couple of days ago, having cramping and back pain but I don't think it's proper contractions yet. Going to keep an eye on things, hope this doesn't last for days yet.

Laanie · 03/11/2020 05:38

My October baby has become a November baby. Labour started on Halloween morning when my waters bursted all over the bed at 9 am! Green with lots of meconium so straight on to the hospital. He finally made his arrival at 12:03 on November first.
It was really quite rough and it's gonna take me a while to process all that's happened. He was delivered in theatre by forceps, which was lucky in a way as they were prepping me for an emergency c section.
He was born with quite intense marks from the tongs but they're almost completely invisible already (thank christ- I felt so so so awful every time I looked at them)
Now to heal and figure out how to look after a newborn!

I've had absolutely no indication or communication from the midwives regarding a home visit. Is it always one the day after you get home from hospital? Or no?

Mc3209 · 03/11/2020 06:13

@Laanie congratulations on the arrival of your November baby! Hope you recover well, and enjoy those precious baby cuddles 🥰

Yes, usually it is the next day after discharge from hospital midwives visit. Mine didn't give me any time slots, she just showed up in the morning.

1990shopefulftm · 03/11/2020 06:57

Had a few irregular contractions before going to sleep last night and woken up to them again. Rang the hospital as hadn't felt movements for a while and been told the usual eat something and cold drink, baby boy started kicking as soon as I hung up and had a cereal bar in my hand.

Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt · 03/11/2020 09:08

Nothing to report here! Had a clash safe bath and now about to rub it into my tummy while watching eat pray love. Boy is back at school today so going to make the most of it and relax!

Congratulations on more arrivals!

ShoMo · 03/11/2020 10:22

It’s so exciting reading about all the new arrivals - congratulations!

@1990shopefulftm sounds like you might be having newborn snuggles really soon ☺️.

@Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt and @Sls668 - not much to report here either. Feeling a lot of pressure and the occasional sharp pain, but I think he’s still far too comfy in there. Trying to go for a big walk every morning 😅. I see the midwife again on Sat and then booked in for an induction next Mon.

Sls668 · 03/11/2020 11:07

@ShoMo I don’t even have any pressure as she’s still so high up, I’ve decided to not sit down now unless it’s on the ball until she comes. I really don’t want to be induced (I’m booked in for Monday too) - what day will that be for you? I’ll be 10 days over by then and wondering if I should ask them to put it back or if that’s just a silly idea

Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt · 03/11/2020 11:13

I've had a good cry already this morning. Not really sure why, worried about the possibility of an induction, worried about our childcare logistics, upset baby has not arrived yet...

I'm trying to relax, maybe a walk later will help

ShoMo · 03/11/2020 11:41

@Sls668 next Monday will be 11 days over for me. My midwife said that I can rearrange it for 14 days when I see her on Sat if I would prefer. I really don’t want to be induced either, but just a little worried about baby getting too big. My other two boys were 9lbs 12 at 10 days over, and 9lbs 5 at 3 days over.

@Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt it’s so tough with all the extra worries at the moment. I had quite an emotional day yesterday too. I definitely recommend a walk! Sending a big hug 🤗

SamK93 · 03/11/2020 12:20

I hope everyone's doing really well.

I had a visit from the health visitor and she asked how I was feeling, DH was there and he's told her that I'm really paranoid and I don't leave the baby alone etc and that I over think things and don't relax blah blah. I just feel so down right now. I don't think it's true at all, I just get stressed trying to balance everything, housework, cooking, my two other DC still need all my attention, school work etc. It's just rubbish doing everything with hardly any sleep. I feel like nobody understands.

Plentyofplants · 03/11/2020 14:38

My mucus plug started to come away yesterday, I've had period pains since to this morning but now they have disappeared. I'm supposed to be getting a sweep tomorrow, but do I still need one now?

@Sls668 My midwife told me getting on your hands and knees is also a good position to move baby down.

@1990shopefulftm fingers crossed for you, hopefully your contractions start back up again.

Is anyone else doing the perineal massage?

Mc3209 · 03/11/2020 15:11

@SamK93 i am going to be blunt - your DH sounds like a dick. Sleep deprivation alone is tough, never mind trying to look after 2 other DCs as well as a newborn and keep the rest of the life on track. Does he help at all?

SamK93 · 03/11/2020 15:17

@Mc3209 it's fine I know he can be. Not as much as he should, all he does is picks or drops the kids off at school and when he does it's like he's doing me a massive favour. Or when I ask him to hold the baby, or help out he'll say oh there's not much I can do I don't have breasts do I. I feel like a walking zombie trying to get everything done, I've always known he has anger issues and he is a very blunt person but I just don't need his shit on top of everything else. I felt so embarrassed in front of the HV. He always tells me to chill out and that I stress too much, but if I don't stress and get everything done then it won't get done.

Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt · 03/11/2020 17:12

I would @Plentyofplants , might just help things get going. I've got mine tomorrow too

WaveStreet · 03/11/2020 17:36

@sophs29 congrats on your new arrival!

@laanie big congrats to you too, sorry to hear that it sounds like you had a tough time of it, hope you are taking it easy.

@1990shopefulftm keeping my fingers crossed that no news is good news for you! Thinking of you.

@Plentyofplants had a few goes with peri massage but I've not been the best at keeping up with it 🙈

Pleased to hear I'm in good company in the overdue club, 5 days over now and also have a midwife appointment and sweep booked in tomorrow. I've not been in too much of a hurry so far but just ready to get the birth out the way now and him to be here.
