I’ll be 16 weeks in 3 weeks time, I know they don’t do gender scans until then at my local clinics.

We’ve decided not to bother with the private scan. We’re just gonna wait for 20 week scan which is on the 10th of December and hopefully we can be told then!

Daffodil21 · 24/10/2020 19:52

@ladymary86 thank you so much, that is reassuring. I didn't know that HCG 'wasn't an exact science' as they said at the scan. I thought for sure it was about to be all over and so did the doc. I've got another scan a week on Monday so not tooo long to go. Then I'll probably book a private one a couple of weeks after that if we're still going 🤞

Daffodil21 · 24/10/2020 19:54

Ohh also - just a general question. My friend told me that they don't tell you the gender in Scotland (Sorry I'm new here!), but judging by other comments here it looks like they might? Would that be at 20 weeks?? I imagine we'd have had a million private ones by then if we make it that far but it would be nice to know what to expect! Sorry for stupid question....!

TheDaydreamBelievers · 24/10/2020 19:59

@Daffodil21 not stupid at all! My understanding is that the official nhs policy is that the sex isnt the POINT of the 20 week scan, and that they dont promise to find out, but that the majority of scan techs are happy to tell you. I think it can also be revealed through the NIPT results?

OP posts:
Queenbee95 · 24/10/2020 20:03

@Daffodil21 as daydream said, the point of the scan isn’t to find out sex but they will usually tell you if you ask/sometimes they will offer. Both my sons scans the sonographer asked if I’d like to know

singleandttc · 24/10/2020 20:09

@Daffodil21 at my booking appointment last week the midwife said they don't tell you sex in forth valley. The NHS NIPT doesn't look at sex chromosomes either so I've booked a private scan for 17 weeks. I need to know!

Daffodil21 · 24/10/2020 20:12

Thanks all, I wasn't sure! We would like to find out too but I know I'll be having plenty of additional private scans so if they don't tell us at the NHS ones it doesn't really matter I suppose!

TheDaydreamBelievers · 24/10/2020 20:13

Useful to know is area specific @singleandttc! This 2018 article shows which ones did/didnt at that time www.thenational.scot/news/16884747.nhs-boards-refuse-tell-parents-sex-baby/

rosegoldivy · 24/10/2020 20:22

@Daffodil21 forth Valley defo don't tell you, they don't even look at that area and have signs up saying they won't even tell you if you ask.
I'm like 99% sure the royal in Glasgow will tell you but unsure about others

Daffodil21 · 24/10/2020 20:22

Thanks for this @TheDaydreamBelievers we are in the no! Never mind. We will find out elsewhere instead. Come to think of it there was a very poorly written signs in the scan room about not asking to know the sex (I didn't quite understand it at the time!)

sunnysideup3 · 24/10/2020 21:21

Evening, hope everyone's having a nice weekend.

Had a proper cry today, sitting on the floor and feeling sorry for myself. The nausea, dizziness and fatigue really got to me. The cry helped haha 😄

ScottishStardust · 24/10/2020 21:36

@butterfly193 I was told most cysts burst naturally when they get to 5cm's so yours may just 'pop' (with no harm to you or baby!) I'm unsure what they'll do about mine - I guess it may depend on how much it has or hasn't grown at this stage? Hope this may have helped settled some nerves!

rosegoldivy · 24/10/2020 22:17

@sunnysideup3 I feel ya with the tears, I've been crying on n off all week, I just feel so shitty, tired and sorry for myself alllllll the time.
Im still being sick and it's 10pm. I am soooooo over this.

Pity party for 1 over here 🤣🤣🤣 nothing like being dramatic or anything.

singleandttc · 24/10/2020 23:18

Oh I'm definitely joining in the pity party today. It's been my worst day. Went to work for a 4 hour shift and threw up 5 times. I cried as soon as I got in my car to come home. Then had lunch and threw up again. I felt a bit better after some more cyclizine and a 2.5 hour nap.. I've managed to keep dinner down so far so yay! I don't know how I'm supposed to work like this. Seriously considering getting signed off next week.

Daffodil21 · 24/10/2020 23:52

I don't know how you're all dealing with so much sickness!! Must be awful! Really feel for you all

@singleandttc I think that's more than a justifiable reason to be signed off - 5 times in 4 hours is a lot!!

PandemicBabyPlz · 25/10/2020 00:19

Well I’m booked in for a scan as it’s not looking hopeful, suspected missed miscarriage. Great amount of cramping and blood loss tonight. Can’t believe it :( We had a struggle to get here and I just feel so rotten that it didn’t stick. Thanks all for being a place I could speak openly at such an early secretive time. And if you believe in miracles at all I could do with one this way ❤️

Daffodil21 · 25/10/2020 08:01

@PandemicBabyPlz I'm so very sorry you're going through this ❤️ how are you doing this morning? when is your scan?

TheDaydreamBelievers · 25/10/2020 10:28

@PandemicBabyPlz wishing you all the best for the scan, I'm really sorry x

CardiganBlobby · 25/10/2020 11:27

@PandemicBabyPlz Thinking of you - I'm so sorry you are going through this.

rosegoldivy · 25/10/2020 12:09

@singleandttc I've already decided that if I feel like this tomorrow then I'm phoning in and taking some time off. Pregnancy sick absence is protected so there's heehaw any employer can do about it. Absolutely no point in pushing to the limit if your already struggling.

@PandemicBabyPlz I'm terribly sorry to hear your news, please do look after yourself and I wish you all the best for the future ❤️❤️

ladymary86 · 25/10/2020 17:15

@singleandttc I really feel your pain on this one. I'm not actually being sick but part of me wishes I was but I feel horrendous and the cyclizine isn't even touching it. I'm dreading work this week, I feel like I'm dragging myself through every single day. I've barely been out of bed this weekend 😭
@PandemicBabyPlz I've got everything crossed for you for a positive outcome!

singleandttc · 25/10/2020 18:01

@ladymary86 @rosegoldivy the cyclizine isn't helping me much. They're making me even more tired though. I've basically slept all day today. Which means at least I've not been sick yet. The only thing that helps at all is just sitting still/lying down and not moving. Not possible at work though when I don't even have a seat and have to run about all day.

I'm feeling v guilty about thinking about phoning in sick tomorrow. I know I can't handle it, but when I'm sitting still and feeling ok(ish) I think I should tough it out. So I've not washed my work clothes. I literally have nothing clean that fits so I'll have to stay off. I'm hoping that will help me not change my mind out of guilt in the morning.

swiftt · 25/10/2020 20:35

I got to see my teeny tiny little bean today. Measuring bang on 7 weeks, which makes sense with my longer than average cycles! Heartbeat was flickering away and it’s made me feel like this is really happening.

CardiganBlobby · 26/10/2020 09:45

Congratulations @swiftt - that's great news.

I should never have mentioned my nausea - it is back with a vengeance in the evening and last night I was sick for the first time Sad

Had the worst headache and have struggled to eat or drink anything - for those of you who have been dealing with serious sickness, I salute you. You deserve a medal!

I can't face the prospect of working today but have crawled to my desk and am in front of my screen. Wish me luck

swiftt · 26/10/2020 12:15

I’ve just had a call from my midwife to say my booking appointment on Wednesday is now going to be over the phone as they’ve had to change their restrictions as of today. I’m now worrying about whether partners will be allowed at the 12 week scan. Anyone else heard anything?
