Did you find out the sex of your baby?

Dp and I are currently in a discussion re finding out the sex of our (currently imaginary) baby.

I found out with Dd. I was beyond certain she was a girl from the moment I conceived I just had to know! I’m erring on the side of surprise this time. I just think the ‘it’s a girl/boy!’ moment after birth would be lovely to experience!

I thought I didn't want to know, until we got to the 20 week scan and I realised I'd have to go another 20 weeks not knowing. I hate not knowing things, I always want to know everything.

DH wanted to find out so he could "decide what kind of father he'd be". Also as it turned out, he had time to get over his disappointment that dd was not a boy, before she was born!

First DS - Did not find out. Wonderful experience. My husband told me it was a boy

Second DD - Found out. Sonographer said 'think' cue me not believing it was a 100% girl. Had a second private scan to confirm. Birth was not as exciting in all honesty.

I think not knowing is best

Nope. And if I have any more I won't be finding out with them either. The moment my husband told me our baby was a girl is one of the best of my life.

Yes. Found out with DD and currently 23 weeks with a little girl. I couldn't wait to find out. Still can't believe this one is a girl!

Yes with dd And now I’m pregnant with number 2 and I’m inclined to find out again. I think knowing with dd helped us plan and made it less of a shock when she was born. Because we’d talked to her for so long it was like we were expecting her.

I didn’t find out with both of mine. I don’t see the need to... it’s the only surprise you get after going through the birth.

yes ds2, but that was because he really wanted a sister. I wanted to be able to get him used to a brother of it wasn't a girl. Good decision.

I did love the surprise with ds1 it's so nice to have that excitement of not l knowing on top of the excitement of the baby being born.

I had gender scans at 16 weeks with the first two and found out via harmony test at ten weeks with this pregnancy.

I could never wait, I’m too impatient!

Didn't find out with DD1 it was so special at the birth because my oh saw for the first time what baby was.

Pregnant with second baby now didn't find out again, I had to go to the scan on my own because of Covid and I just wasn't bothered about knowing

Dh told me when dd2 was born she was a girl!

No. We wanted to but legs were crossed.

Hearing DH say "it's a girl!" before anyone else had said it was an amazing feeling, out of this world after all the pushing etc so we won't find out beforehand with future babies either.

I didn't bit I think I would second time around. I'd like my son to know if he's getting a brother or sister. I think I might bid better with the baby if I knew what was coming out! I had NO idea if my son was a boy or girl. No instincts. So I it was kind of a shock for this I know entity for suddenly be revealed as a boy!

Finding out what I'd had after both births was just indescribable. My true most joyous moments in life!

Of course it's personal choice, and you can just find out at 20 weeks but I just feel Labour is bloody hard work and the surprise at the end Keir me so focused. In today's world, humans never seem to be able to wait for anything..... I wouldn't find out with my (not happening) third either!

Oh lord, yes. I wanted to know everything there was to know about my little dude, and that's one of the few things you can find out! Second time around DH really wanted a girl (for silly/sad reasons relating to his relationship with his Dad vs his sister's relationship with him) and it's good that he's got a good long while to adjust to not getting a daughter.

I thought it would help with telling DS1 as well, but if we mention it's a boy he gently corrects us. 'No, it's a baby.'

Yes. I was convinced I was having a boy so when they told me it was going to be a girl it took a while for my head to get around. My husband was also disappointed. The reason for this was we (mistakenly) thought boys were easier to bring up in the area we lived in. It was a prejudice. She's totally awesome.

Let the midwives know when you go in to give birth, we told them ahead of time and they were brilliant, nudging DH (who was a little shell shocked) to get him to look and tell me 😊

I did. I'm a control freak and don't like surprises! I like to be prepared. It also made finding (and agreeing on!) a name so much easier!

I’m pregnant for the first time and I don’t want to find out. I think the surprise after they’re born will be so lovely.

Yes I found out and would find out again. I found it helped me to bond with the baby referring to her as 'she' rather than 'it', practically we were able to narrow down names, buy a few girly bits when I saw good deals/offers on them and just generally made me feel more prepared.

In my local hospital, they didn’t routinely tell you (20 years ago). However, did for dc1 after an amniocentesis. Didn’t find out with dc2.

No we didn't! I think it's one of life's greatest surprises!
From 30 weeks I needed weekly scans and we still didn't find out (I was tempted mind!) Xx
