Handhold please. 27 weeks and bleeding

Just that. Currently in hospital, after having sudden bleeding starting at about 10pm. 27 weeks pregnant, phoned the hospital midwife, who told me to call 999.

Ambulance turned up within 5 mins, put a cannula in and took me straight to the assessment center/labour ward.

Baby heartbeat is fine, but having tightenings, and a test for showing possible premature labour came back positive.

Been scanned, don't think the blood is from the placenta or cord, but it is quite watery. Going to be given antibiotics and steroid injection asap, then reassessed in the morning, including testing for amniotic fluid.

On my own, husband looking after our 3yo DD, and in any case, not allowed in with me anyway. Had 2 losses in the last year, and am so scared something will happen to this one too.

Thank you everyone, for your very kind messages.
Had more bleeding this morning, but seems to have settled down again.
Baby is currently kicking up a storm, and seems very happy.
The plan is to monitor overnight, and then hopefully discharge tomorrow, going back to the twice weekly monitoring.

It's likely that this may happen again, as the issue seems to be that something isn't quite right with the placenta, and the bleeding is causing the tightenings. The protocol will be the same, if/when it happens again.

I'm following as I also had a bleed at 27 weeks. I'm 28 weeks today and bleeding seems to have stopped. Sending lots of love to you OP, please keep us updated xx

Vebrithien · 14/05/2020 13:46

Finally being discharged again today!

Bleed was a placental edge bleed, and I have a small area of the placenta which has detached, which has been causing the pain, bleeds and PPROM.

Baby is happy, I'm back to twice weekly monitoring and fortnightly growth scans.

And, in big news, I made it to 30 weeks today Grin

@Vebrithien I've been another silently following this. I'm so pleased for you!!! X

Beau2020 · 14/05/2020 21:17

@Vebrithien excellent milestone! So happy for you! I think my bleeding was coming from back passage but they said it was unexplained. Baby is kicking so much so I'm trying not to worry too much.

mommybear1 · 14/05/2020 21:44

So pleased to see your update OP

Back in hospital again Sad

Small bleed in the night, went to my normal monitoring appointment this morning, and the doctor there has re-admitted me to the ward, as I've had tightenings non stop since Friday morning.

Since then, have passed a very large, brown clot, so am hoping that the clot being expelled has been causing the tightenings, but it has just caused another little bleed in the process.

Just waiting on the doctor's verdict on what the plan is.

Thinking of you, back in hospital again. Hopefully now the clot is out everything will calm down.

babynunber3 · 16/05/2020 22:47

Hope all is ok xx

SquirtleSquad · 16/05/2020 23:19

Thinking of you OP. How's the food in hospital tonight? I was in for a month with my first pregnancy and remember being presented with a plate of mashed potato and beans one evening Grin

ChaBishkoot · 16/05/2020 23:37

How many weeks are you now? Hang on in there little one!

Vebrithien · 17/05/2020 00:52

30w 3d now (legitimately counting the extra day, as it is past midnight!)

Having pain and regular tightenings, so have to head down to the labour ward for them to assess me.

OP posts:
TenShortStories · 17/05/2020 02:18

Eek, fingers crossed for this not being labour, or if if is then fingers crossed all goes well! And 30w3d is fab!

Vebrithien · 17/05/2020 07:58

Am still cooking baby, but it was a close thing in the night.
Tightenings are milder now, just feel so bruised.
Beginning to feel a little like the boy who cried wolf! But horrible though it is to keep having contractions and blood loss, so far, at least they keep settling down. Fingers crossed baby stays put, and things stay calm for a while.

squashie34 · 17/05/2020 08:16

@Vebrithien I'm glad that it feels like it has calmed down a bit for you, that's great news! 😊 Have they said what the plan is if this keeps happening to you every week or so? Ie are they getting you to a certain week and then saying it's better to get baby out?

Sending lots of love

ApplesAndBlue · 17/05/2020 10:51

So glad you've made it this far. Re the boy who cried wolf, don't let that deter you from getting checked even if you just don't feel quite right. Fingers crossed baby stays put for a bit longer x

Rara88Cas · 17/05/2020 10:58

Fingers crossed little one stays put and stops worrying you! X

Greentrees33 · 22/05/2020 00:48

Hi, I’ve been reading this since you posted. I’m glad to hear baby is hanging on and that you are so far along in your pregnancy. The same happened to me from 14 weeks onwards, low lying placenta and then bleeds (and passing large clots). Ended up hospitalised twice. Second time was for contractions which stop started until I had my perfectly healthy and formed baby at 4.5 months and He lived for 45 minutes.

So I’ve been reading your updates and crossing everything for you and this little baby to hold on and grow a little bigger each day- but even if he/she makes an appearance he/she is in excellent hands, Just take It easy and please do update us

Sending so much positivity and a massive hand hold your way. You and baby are doing brilliantly, keep going! X

TwistyHair · 22/05/2020 19:52

Hope it’s all going ok and baby is still inside. If not, then I’m sure you’re getting good care in NICU.

BabyG123 · 22/05/2020 21:18

Sending positive vibes and hoping for you 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
