Baby aspirin after miscarriage?

BYHA12 · 11/04/2020 14:15

Hi so this is the first time I'm posting there..

I have had recurrent miscarriages.. just had another 2 last month and this month again at the same time! I have been referred by the docs to get checked out but the docs did mention most likely I will be given baby aspirin to help..
unfortunately due to everything going on at the moment my appointment was cancelled which is really annoying as I'm ttc!

I have been looking online and people have just been taking the low dose as it's available in shops etc..
Is anyone taking it at the moment? Would it be safe for me to try it myself or would I have to wait? Any experiences or advice would be great! Thank you

Hi there,
I wouldn't want to advise you on anything but I can tell you my experience - I had 3 miscarriages in a row within a year had a break and waited for consultant appointment and tests all came back unexplained and consultant has nothing to advise other than keep trying. I asked if I could take aspirin having researched it and his said I don't see why not it doesn't hurt so worth a try! 75mg baby aspirin you buy in shops/Poundland.

Next positive test I started taking one a day until 36 weeks which resulted in my daughter and am now pregnant again and doing the same thing for and all going well so far.

I was nervous about doing it on my own and get it was risky but thought what do I have to lose? when I met with midwives and told them no one really batted an eyelid ... one midwife commented I think you will find it is a miracle drug or something alone those lines ... I met with a consultant before this second pregnancy and he said there is no evidence that it helps and advised me against but I said I'm sorry my daughter is absolutely perfect I am not taking any chances and will be doing the same again and he said that's fine your choice!

Wishing you all the best I hope you get your miracle Grin

BYHA12 · 11/04/2020 19:58

@RachRainbow thank you so much for your comment. I had 2 miscarriages and then while I was waiting to get seen I got pregnant and now I have a baby boy but now that I'm trying for number 2 I'm literally just miscarrying everytime at the exact same weeks. When I seen my doc regarding my previous miscarriage he had referred me and he obviously asked me all the questions and said most of the time 90% nothing come backs from the tests and he was advising the same thing to take baby aspirin as soon as I know I'm pregnant to prevent clotting etc...

I was tempted to start it before my appt, I even got my appt but it's now been cancelled.. since then Iv had another miscarriage at the exact same time and now I'm super fed up and don't want it to happen again! X

I bet it will take a while for your appointment to come through with everyone going on so if it was me I would try it while waiting as that may be all they advise if the tests come back unexplained anyway like you say ..
Lots of luck to you x

BYHA12 · 11/04/2020 20:20

@RachRainbow yeah your right, if it's not going to do any harm and it's available so freely I may Aswel try it out and see what happens. Thanks for your comments.
Did you take it the minute u got the slightest bfp or before had? X

I had a mc at 7 weeks. After 5 months more of trying and no luck, I spoke to a GP who recommended baby aspirin. I took some from around ovulation day until I got a bfp and had a successful pregnancy. No idea if it actually helped, could just be coincidence, but you never know. Good luck.

DressingGown87 · 11/04/2020 21:12

@BYHA12 sorry for your loss.
I’ve had 7 mmc. All the tests came back as unexplained, and I referred myself to a private clinic, which found some explanation. This was all 6 years ago.
One of the things they have done this time round is started me on aspirin as soon as I found out (wasn’t ttc). The doesage is 2 75mg (150mg) of dispersible aspirin every day, and advised to take at night. This will help the blood flow. I’m also on Fragmin injections as a precaution, but these are prescribed. I’m now 12weeks pregnant. Good luck x

BYHA12 · 11/04/2020 21:24

@DressingGown87 thanks for your message, that gives me some hope. I will definitely be trying it out probably start to take it from around ovulation.. do you think it would be ok for me to take 2 a day? X

BYHA12 · 11/04/2020 21:26

@SallyLovesCheese thank you so much. How much aspirin did you take if you don't mind me asking? X

Keyboard91 · 11/04/2020 22:23

Sorry for your losses.

I had 2 MC. GP said he’d refer after 3. I was desperate for there not to be a 3rd so I researched and decided to take a baby aspirin every day (75mg). The result is 4 weeks old and asleep next to me right now.

Was it the aspirin? Who could tell.
Would I do it again when trying for baby number 2? Absolutely!

Good luck x

Areallthenamestaken · 11/04/2020 22:28

I had 5 early miscarriages and at the last one the doctor was so vile to me when I asked for help that I decided to take things into my own hands and put myself on 75mg aspirin and I'm now 25 weeks pregnant.

Karwomannghia · 11/04/2020 22:33

I would. I was told to have it with my last as I was 40 and had had a previous miscarriage (a long time before with children after) I don’t think it can do any harm and I felt like I was doing something helpful! I also took pregnacare.

BYHA12 · 11/04/2020 22:36

@Keyboard91
Wow that's so amazing! thank you so much for abit of hope!
Did you take it everyday until you was pregnant? X

BYHA12 · 11/04/2020 22:38

@Areallthenamestaken
It's the worst when docs aren't supportive! So glad you did the right thing! how long did you take it for? And was it successful first time after your losses? X

OP posts:
DressingGown87 · 11/04/2020 22:43

@BYHA12 the consultant and midwife told me the guidelines use to be 75mg, but has been up to 150mg. I took these together, just before I went to sleep. If your not sure take one, and increase this after speaking to a consultant. I’m sure it won’t do you any harm starting straight away. I’m on them until 36weeks.

BYHA12 · 11/04/2020 22:50

@DressingGown87
Thank you so much. Il get a pack and just start taking one a day.. did you take it everyday or after you got the bfp? When I have looked online there's a mix of reviews of whether to take it daily or once you have got your positive... x

OP posts:
Areallthenamestaken · 11/04/2020 23:02

@BYHA12

I took it from ovulation until I got a positive test, maybe a bit longer but I can't remember - sorry. Not for 12 weeks or anything. I also took Maca root and Coq10. I got pregnant and remained pregnant on the first cycle. My friend had IVF and had also had miscarriages so when it worked for me she tried it and she's 22 weeks now. Good luck. I really hope it works for you!

DressingGown87 · 11/04/2020 23:29

@BYHA12 I personally wasn’t ttc, so only started taking it when I got told I was pregnant by the GP, and they had peeled me off the floor. Had been told that I wasn’t going to be able to conceive anymore, so when I was unwell (suspected jet lag), I didn’t expect to be pregnant. I would just start taking it In the evenings daily (won’t do you any harm), and I think I was told years ago to do that, along with your folic acid. Then you take it until your 36weeks, or told otherwise. The fragmin injections works alongside the aspirin, but until you’ve had further testing / seen a consultant you wouldn’t be prescribed this. Good luck, and hope you get your positive outcome x

ellenas80 · 11/04/2020 23:49

Hello, sorry to hear what a terrible time you’ve been having, I had 6 miscarriages and one ectopic in a year and inbetween constantly trying and nothing happened. I took 75mg low dose which you can buy from pharmacy wen started to try after last miscarriage as doctor recommended I am still on that dose now and am 33 weeks pregnant! I swear by it and think without I wouldn’t be in situation I am, it won’t do you any harm to try so what do you have to loose.🤞🏻Good luck I hope you get the baby you deserve.xx

BYHA12 · 11/04/2020 23:55

@ellenas80
Thank you so much! I am most definitely going to get some from the shops and start on it straight after this current miscarriage passes.. it's actually mentally so draining so I'm hoping this works x

ellenas80 · 12/04/2020 13:16

It is, some days I felt couldn’t put myself through it anymore and this was my last try! If I got there you will too!My only hurdle now is giving birth during Coronavirus! 😢fingers crossed for you but be positive you will get there in the end! Good luck x

Elouera · 12/04/2020 13:29

There are certain guidelines when its often given- 1st pregnancy if over 40, BMI higher than 35, previous MC's, clotting disorders but mainly for pre-eclampsia (high blood pressure).Some are started prior to TTC, some as soon as they get BFP and others only at 12 weeks.

Unfortunately, MC is usually from a genetic cause, which aspirin will do absolutely nothing for. There can obviously be other reasons though.

I'm on 75mg a day with this pregnancy. You can buy enteric coated 75mg from a chemist, but I am limiting going out and how many shops I visit. I just got a packet of 300mg aspirin from Tesco for 30p. A quarter of each tablet is 75mg and its FAR cheaper than the other type. Also, don't get the effervescent ones, unless you'd prefer prefer to drink that awful tasting aspirin liquid?

I'd wait to speak to your Dr again, or at least have blood tests. Otherwise, you wont know what dose and when to start the aspirin- or if indeed it would help at all. Best of luck though.

ellenas80 · 12/04/2020 21:58

If you start on low 75mg dose that’s so low no harm will come of it as only trying to conceive.Even if not needed won’t do you any harm.you can always check with a doctor once become pregnant. I didn’t have any other problems other than recurring miscarriages so to me I’d try you have nothing to loose. But my advice don’t listen to others( lots are negative) do what feels right for you! If become pregnant get doctor advise then , but if do become pregnant maybe that was what worked. Good luck x

BYHA12 · 12/04/2020 23:17

@ellenas80 yes you are so right! There is a lot of negatives but I am for sure going to start taking that and then just see what happens from there. If I do happen to fall pregnant I can always mention it to the doc or midwife x

Congrats @BYHA12 :)
I’ve been taking 75mg after recurring missed miscarriages. Yesterday I saw a babies heartbeat for the first time.
My dr said that there is no conclusive evidence that it works, but it certainly wouldn’t harm to try :)
