Baby aspirin after miscarriage?

BYHA12 · 11/04/2020 14:15

Hi so this is the first time I'm posting there..

I have had recurrent miscarriages.. just had another 2 last month and this month again at the same time! I have been referred by the docs to get checked out but the docs did mention most likely I will be given baby aspirin to help..
unfortunately due to everything going on at the moment my appointment was cancelled which is really annoying as I'm ttc!

I have been looking online and people have just been taking the low dose as it's available in shops etc..
Is anyone taking it at the moment? Would it be safe for me to try it myself or would I have to wait? Any experiences or advice would be great! Thank you

@Eboney7 After re-reading this thread, I'm leaning towards trying baby aspirin 😁 You all must think I'm bonkers, just can't make up my mind 🤣 I'll pop to the pharmacy tomorrow after acupuncture and get some baby aspirin 🙈

Gylli87 · 02/08/2020 09:53

@BYHA12 Ohh that's great everything's going well with your pregnancy, I'm so happy for you 💖
I am thinking of booking a scan at 8 weeks if all is going well. Did you go private?
Xx

Eboney7 · 02/08/2020 10:12

@Gylli87 I believe baby aspirin helps. My friend had two miscarriages before aspirin. Her 3rd pregnancy She took baby aspirin and her baby girl made it. She was just pregnant a 4th time and didnt take the aspirin. She miscarried today. I believe baby aspirin is suggested to heart disease patients and blood clotting problems. It doesn’t hurt to take it once u find out you are pregnant... I got mine yesterday just waiting my BFP..

@BYHA12 How exciting that you are already 20 weeks! Are you still taking the baby aspirin?
Do you know what you are having or it is going to be surprise?

BYHA12 · 02/08/2020 10:32

@Gylli87 yess I went for a private scan, my husband couldn't go with me but it was such a relief to see the heartbeat and see that everything is okay.. I would definitely recommend baby aspirin.. when I had my last miscarriage I went to see the doctor and he told me aspirin is given to a lot of women to prevent blood clots as when your having a period that's a clot! So if your taking aspirin it prevents that so I believe you will have a higher chance of pregnancy then x

@Eboney7 thank you! I know I can't believe myself that I'm nearly 20 weeks! I'm glad I'm able to feel the baby kicking here and there tho which is so reassuring.. I'm actually not having it anymore.. I stopped taking it at the end of my 1st trimester so up to 14 weeks.. I would love to find out what I'm having but we are keeping it a surprise this time. I already have a little boy so I would love a girl this time round. I really hope u get your bfp! Iv recommended it to so many of my friends.. i only knew about it once the doctor gave me some insight and then I did my research and all these lovely ladies on here all have had positive experiences x

@BYHA12 hope you get your little girl this time but as long as they are healthy it doesn’t matter another boy will be great too!
Hopefully BFP for me soon..I have changed my diet as well doing everything I could for next pregnancy! I bought baby aspirin the other fat can’t believe how cheap it is.. I paid like $2 from the chemist it is amazing that It actually helps protect miscarriages! and it so cheap .. incredible..

Flittingaboutagain · 16/11/2020 11:14

Hi OP

How is it going? I hope your 20 wk scan went well.

I just wanted to thank you for this thread because off the back of it I have an appointment to discuss low dose aspirin for miscarriage prevention second time around with a consultant.

Semele5069 · 16/11/2020 12:26

I had 2 early miscarriages and started taking 75mg aspirin from ovulation date after that. If I got my period I stopped until next ovulation. I'm now 15 weeks pregnant and still taking it. I had a consultant appointment recently and told her and asked if there was any reason why I shouldn't keep taking it and she said no, so I'm going to continue to 36 weeks if all goes well!

choccrumpet · 01/02/2021 13:41

Hi OP, I'm researching about taking baby aspirin as I've had 3 early miscarriages / chemical pregnancies. I was wondering if you had any updates of your experience taking it? @BYHA12

Moominmiss · 01/02/2021 13:49

@choccrumpet hi, I’m sorry to hear about your losses.

I also experienced 4 early losses. 9weeks. 6 weeks, 6 weeks and 5 weeks.

After that 4th one I decided to take matters into my own hands. I’d had lots of tests done and no issues could be found.

This cycle I started taking 150mg daily aspirin that I bought in the shops. They’re actually 75mg tablets and I take 2 of them.

I got my bfp at 8dpo and am still taking the aspirin. I’ve since had an early scan and seen a heartbeat. I’m still only just over 6 weeks but this is the most promising it’s ever looked as I’ve never seen a heartbeat before with any of my losses.

I have now also been put on progesterone until 16 weeks.

So for me I honestly think the aspirin worked. For me that’s the only thing I did differently!

Fawn68 · 01/02/2021 14:11

@Moominmiss sorry about your losses and congratulations on your pregnancy! I was told to take 75mg of aspirin by a fertility doctor should I be lucky to get pregnant again. I have a 2 year old DS and had 2 miscarriages July 2020 and Nov 2020. My own gp and fertility doctor agreed that I should be prescribed progesterone next pregnancy too.

Just wondering, when did you start the progesterone? I'm not pregnant yet but currently in the 2ww.

jazzibelle · 01/02/2021 14:21

@BYHA12 echoing a PP -- I can't tell you it's safe to take anything, as it depends on your health and history, so please consult a doctor if you can. But I can share my story...

Similar to you, I've had MC in the past. I started taking 75mg of Aspirin daily during the TWW and I'm currently 24 weeks. Whether it had anything to do with the Aspirin or not, I don't know -- sometimes MC "just happen" (I always found that such a shitty answer to why.. but that's another topic) but in my experience it's been positive.

The midwife actually upped me from 75mg to 150mg, and I was completely honest with her about me taking it and how long for. If you're taking any other medication that Aspirin could interfere with, please ask a doctor beforehand :-)

notalwaysalondoner · 01/02/2021 14:50

I had a missed miscarriage June 2020 at 10 weeks then a very early miscarriage at 4+5 in September. I saw a consultant privately who prescribed me progesterone pessaries and baby aspirin next time I got pregnant in late October. I’m now 15 weeks and all is well. I bought the aspirin over the counter and stopped after my 12 week scan was clear. You can continue for the whole pregnancy as it reduces risk of pre eclampsia but I have no co-morbidities and my consultant recommended I stop. Next time I’d definitely take it again just in case it helped as I had no side effects except I bruised a bit more easily. It’s important if you have bad nosebleeds or other bleeding while taking it you get medical advice.

choccrumpet · 01/02/2021 15:05

@Moominmiss thank you and I'm sorry for your losses too. Brilliant news with your current pregnancy, congratulations!

I've spoken to my GP and she couldn't advise me for or against aspirin but said she's heard of specialists prescribing both aspirin and progesterone which she cannot do.

I'm strongly considering starting 75mg aspirin a few days after I ovulate. Keeping to a low dose unless a doctor advises me otherwise as I assume it's safe for me to take it as I've got no health issues that I'm aware of but keeping it on the low side.

When did you start taking yours?

And with the progesterone, did your bloods come back as low or is it an extra precaution?

Moominmiss · 01/02/2021 15:14

@Fawn68 I was originally advised 75mg aspirin but then was told the guidelines for the UK had changed and 150mg daily was the new recommended dose.
But as for the progesterone I was prescribed it at 5+5 after being sent to the EPU for a reassurance scan. They prescribed it to me there at the hospital. I’m on 400mg pessaries twice a day.

@choccrumpet so my aspirin I started on 1dpo.

I’d had my progesterone levels checked previously and they were absolutely fine, but they said it’s more a precautionary thing after my recurrent losses.

Hoping it will help!

choccrumpet · 01/02/2021 15:35

@Moominmiss thank you for sharing, this gives me so much hope! I hope your pregnancy continues on the right healthy path x

Fawn68 · 01/02/2021 15:38

@Moominmiss yes that is what they've told me too that when I get a bfp I've to contact epu directly and then they will prescribe me the progesterone! Thanks very much for your help :-)

I know this chat is from a little while ago however I just wanted to share some good news and possibly helps some else reading this. I had my first chemical pregnancy last year in October and I had put it down to just a little bad look, I then fell pregnant again in December and thought this time everything would be okay. However I ended up miscarrying again at 6 weeks, I never got past a digital clear blue 1-2 weeks which always made me think something wasn’t quite right.
After speaking to the doctor and reading everyone’s good look whilst taking Aspirin I mentioned this to the doctor only to be told that it’s extremely common and don’t be surprised if you have four or more. The aspirin won’t help and will just make things worse, I’d decided that I was going to look into it and with it being a super low dose (75mg) I knew it wasn’t going to do any harm. I started taking the aspirin around the day I thought I ovulated and have had five strong positives so far and even had my first clear blue 2-3 weeks.
I’m really hopeful that this time the Aspirin is going to help, I spoke to a different doctor recently and told me to increase it to 150mg which I have.
I really wanted to post this message as without reading everyone’s messages I would have never have tried it.

BYHA12 · 16/02/2021 21:14

@chm17000

Hey! I’m the original person who written this post! I can tell you happily I have had a healthy baby that baby aspirin helped me with she’s 7 weeks now!
So I truly 1000000% believe it helps and it works I’m so glad I’m able to help other people as I was unsure just like you but after doin my research I took it around ovulation time and got a my positive and now baby is here all good and healthy!
If I was to have another baby i will definitely take baby aspirin again!
But all the best to you! I’m hoping this is a good start for you! I took baby aspirin till about 14-15 weeks until I knew everything was all good and you know what I didn’t even tell the doctor’s I was taking it.. x

Always great to hear good stories! I started taking the baby aspirin when I got my bfp just 1 week ago, so fingers crossed it helps with me. Congratulations on your baby @RachRainbow x

Catmum55566 · 16/02/2021 22:18

@BYHA12 thank you so much for this thread- I have just been reading back over it. So pleased to see everything worked out well for you!

@chm17000 your story sounds similar to mine. I have had two back to back MC where I haven't got past 1-2 weeks. I'm in my first TTW since the last one and have been told they can't do any investigations till it has happened a 3rd time. From reading this thread I am going to try the asprin. GP said it won't do any harm. Thank you all who have contributed to this post! I know there are no guarantees that it will work out if I get a BFP in future, but gives me hope reading these stories!

Cafeaulait27 · 16/02/2021 22:49

I’m trying aspirin after 2 losses, my only 2 pregnancies. I took matters into my own hands and started 150mg from ovulation, I believe it helped with implantation too. I’ll be 6 weeks on Thursday. Time will tell xx

chm17000 · 17/02/2021 13:18

@BYHA12 Awww that’s fantastic, congratulations on your little girl, it’s so lovely to hear of successful stories on this. I’m hoping the aspirin is going to work as well for me as it has for you, and for everyone else who’s trying to get pregnant I’ve got everything crossed for you Xxx

lockdownbabyx · 17/02/2021 13:34

This post has really boosted my spirits! I'm 10dpo and got my BFP today. I started taking baby aspirin from ovulation, after doing lots of research. I've had 3 miscarriages all before 7 weeks, due to the pandemic it's going to take a while before I can be looked at so I took matters into my own hands. I'm praying that the aspirin helps me with this pregnancy! It's so nice to hear success stories though ☺️ xx

choccrumpet · 17/02/2021 13:47

This thread along with another similar one is also helping me feel so positive!

I had my 3rd chemical pregnancy last month and after doing lots of research, I took my first 75mg aspirin yesterday. I've been trying to track my ovulation to start taking it from then but it's been tricky, my hormones might be still out of whack and I haven't identified my peak (but have been trying as usual anyways).

It's so nice to hear about others starting aspiring from ovulation or from their fertile week, it helps me feel better, more positive and confident that things will work out.
