Pregnant at 46

Just found out I'm pregnant at 46. A real shock. Any older mums with similar news? I have a 13 year old son already. Due December if all goes well.

Congratulations! I'm due in July when I'll have just turned 43. I already have an 18 month old son.
We are having a little girl this time, not that we were bothered.
How are you feeling? I am fine, apart from the usual tiredness and achy hips at night!

I'm still in shock and haven't even told my partner yet! He never wanted any more children so I don't think he will be very happy! Going to tell him this weekend if I'm brave enough! My sister in law had her second at age 43 and it all went fine. Hope it all goes well for you. What type of birth are you having? X

I hope he comes round to the idea. It's bloody hard work, isn't it, but so worth it!
I am thinking they will induce me on my due date, which is what happened with my first. I am really hoping to go into labour before that happens though!

I was induced too with my first son and wouldn't want to go through that again! I looked at my odds of misscarrying today... 80% chance crikey think I need to stop getting excited 🙈

I'm due my second in 4 weeks. I'm 44.
It's been a difficult pregnancy this time, but mainly due to family ill health and the pandemic. Health wise, I'm fine and there have been no complications so far.
At home with a 3 year old all day as well and she's amazing but thoroughly exhausting! She's very much looking forward to having a baby sister.

4 weeks eek you must be so excited but nervous too due to corona virus. I had the awkward chat with my partner this morning about my positive test result. He did not take it well and isn't happy I don't want a termination. Do either of you know how early you can have the tests done to see if there is anything wrong. That's the only time I would think about a termination but I certainly wouldn't contemplate it otherwise. I don't know whether my partner of 8 years is either a lot more selfish than I'd realised or he's just so shocked he cannot think straight. He has 2 teenage children from his first marriage and feels he's left all that behind. We were due to get married in July in Cyprus which is now not going ahead and he's starting a new job in 3 weeks but the salary is lower so I know he's a bit worried about how we will financially cope. I think he just had it in his head that he's too old. (45) and he doesn't want our lives to change

Helbel- can I ask if you worried about the age of your eggs? Did you get an earlier scan because of your age? X

We had an nipt test at ten weeks for both pregnancies. It is a blood test and a scan. You also find out the sex if you want.
I would highly recommend it. It tests for Downs, Edwards, Pataus and Turner syndromes. If you pay more they can test for more things.
It cost around £500 each time.

Congratulations! I was an older mum too. Worried that I would be the oldest in the playground at school, but shouldn’t have worried as plenty of the mums were over 40,

This was me two years ago, unexpected pregnancy at 46. OH really didn’t want it as have 3 teenagers so felt we’d left all that behind. I had a harmony test I think it was, you can have it from 9 weeks.
I won’t pretend it was easy. My oldest who was 15 at the time took it very badly and I think you really do forget how hard babies are. I also found it difficult to adjust. I feel I don’t look bad for my age but I felt a bit embarrassed going to baby groups for the first year. However I don’t care now what people might think! But saying this we now have a 20month old and his older siblings all dote on him and he has given us a lot of joy in our lives.

I’d also say cut your partner some slack, it is a huge shock and hubby was the same at first absolutely adamant he didn’t want anymore children but it’s wonderful to see them together now.

Thankyou for your comments. I know he needs time to adjust... I've had 3 days thinking about it but he doesn't talk to his friends about this type of thing so will need a week probably to get his head together. xxx

Hi ladies - I’m expecting my first baby in 3.5weeks, I’ll be 49 (barely as it’s my next birthday in June!!!) it was a very hoped for and planned pregnancy, but still a complete shock that it has worked. My hospital doesn’t consider me particularly high risk having ruled out lots of risks early on. The pregnancy itself has been very easy, but I have to say I’m absolutely knackered right now! Can’t wait for the baby to be here / it’s got half siblings ranging from 22-29 who have all been super positive and supportive which was not expected! Good luck with your pregnancies xxx

*catlaw73 not really, as I've always been fit and healthy. I did speak to our gp, but she said as I'd had a healthy baby when I was 41, then she wasn't worried. We're very lucky to have conceived naturally, although have suffered 2 losses as well.
Apart from extra growth scans and having to take aspirin, I've not been treated differently. I had a private scan at 8 weeks, for peace of mind, but wasn't offered one on the NHS. All tests and scans so far have shown a perfectly healthy baby, and no one seems bothered about my age.
I'm certainly enjoying be an older mum - I'm settled in a good career, have more patience and more experience. I can't say it was a choice to be an older mum particularly, as I didn't meet DH until I was 38, but I love being a mum and wouldn't change it for the world.

@Midlifebaby that's amazing news congratulations I'm 47 and had another MC at 6 weeks, but haven't lost hope, were you taking any vits ?

Helbelle17- that's all reassuring to know. My son was born when I was 33 with no complications so hopefully this one will be the same. It just feels weird that I'm not going to see a doctor and I just get a midwife telephone aptmt on 1st May at 8 weeks and I just have to hope everything is ok up until then 😬xx

Congratulations @Catlaw73 (and everyone else expecting!). I’m 44 and expecting my third baby in July - my other kids are 7 and nearly-6 so it’s not a particularly big age gap for me. It’s lovely to hear other people’s’ stories. This was a hugely unexpected pregnancy (I had an early miscarriage at 42 and really thought that was my last go). I had the Harmony test at King’s (they offered it free as I was within their intermediate risk class based on the scan and age, although my numbers before it were still better than with my first child) and came back 1:10,000. It’s been a huge thing to get used to the idea of, especially as the baby is a girl (I have 2 boys) and I had thought my family was complete with the boys, had never had secret hopes/dreams of a girl and now everything is changing, I have a couple of underlying health conditions and I am not exactly a super-fit yoga mum and yet no medical professional has so much as batted an eyelid at my age. Wishing you all the best with it!

I had my youngest at 43 OP. All was fine.
My friend’s Mum had her at 46, and I know someone locally who had her first and only at 46, having assumed she would be childless. Several friends had their babies in their forties, like me. Or had last babies around 43/44.
