I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hi all, I have been really bad so not on my phone much. I have been trying to avoid ondanstron as it gave me horrendous consitpation last time.

But I have given in today. I will keep better on top of it this time round but I have to admit, I have felt slightly better today. Only been sick 3 times and yesterday it was 8 times.

Has anyone found it helped with the nausea as well? I am desperately hoping it does this time round....

Sorry to all suffering. @LucindaE can I be added to the list? Nov 26th. Seems so far away...

Sb131216 · 05/05/2020 12:55

How is everyone feeling today?

I just had a euphoric moment as I kept down about half a glass of pear juice and one of my medications..see how long for but it feels like progress

Can I ask, what vitamins if any are you all taking? Pregnacare makes sickness worse for me and Severn seas are so huge I can't keep them down.
Vit d is a bit low so I'm a bit worried at not keeping that down

FilthyforFirth · 05/05/2020 14:17

I am taking the Boots own brand folic avid and vitd. It is a small tablet and one I find easy to keep down. I struggled with pregnacare during my first pregnancy and was recommended this by my then midwife. I was straight to it this time.

Sb131216 · 05/05/2020 14:42

Thanks so much that's great, I'll try that one then

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 05/05/2020 14:46

36+3 and this morning I managed to miss the toilet (didnt get there in time) and vomited all down myself and down the front of the toilet & the bathroom floor.

You'd think my aim would be perfected by now, but apparently not Grin

Hope everyone is coping. We are half way through another day being done!

LucindaE · 05/05/2020 22:04

FilthyforFirth I've added your date. 'This Too Will Pass', though it seems easy for me to say. There is a mixed reaction over the nausea and Ondansetron; some say it does help the nuasea, others that it stops the sickness but for them, not the nausea.

Sb121316 Was that the juice from tinned pears? I found that invaluable. Good advice about vitamins. I know that there are liquid iron drops, and I think you may get multivitamins.
BeautyandtheBump Poor you! I once hit the wardrobe as I sprinted by.

Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

Absolutely feeling sorry for myself today. Feel like my tummy can't stretch anymore, everything aches & I feel SO NAUSEOUS! @BeautyAndTheBump1 - you poor thing, it's just the absolute worst. Are you still on meds? There's light at the end of the tunnel. It's shining brighter and brighter each day.

@LucindaE - I can see the tip of pink castle on the horizon 🙏🏻 another steep climb to go, but it's getting closer.

Sorry to read of those struggling & battling ❤️

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 06/05/2020 08:42

@kissingthebear how are you feeling this morning? Hopefully a little better than yesterday even if it's just mentally!
I'm still on ondansetron & cyclizine, it's going to be so weird throwing them out after labour 🤣 I also have metoclopramide and prochloperazine in the drawer - I could open my own anti-sickness chemist 😂

I am 37 weeks on saturday and he's getting his eviction notice. I have already started bouncing on the birthing ball 🤣

kissingthebear · 06/05/2020 11:36

Thanks for checking in @BeautyAndTheBump1 - I've just given the bathroom a deep clean, bit of exercise and mentally feel like I've achieved something positive & productive. Not feeling as sick as yesterday so far.

I'm on x2 Xonvea every night which I reduced from 3 daily. Got iron tablets prescribed to take so still feel like a rattle. Did you have sickness this far along with your first?

I hope he gets the memo and makes an appearance soon - bounce away, please please please keep me posted 😘 you reserve an early and easy delivery x

FilthyforFirth · 06/05/2020 11:48

I have been on it for a couple of days now and I have noticed a difference. Still nauseous but not the 'cant even move' kind. I was able to sit downstairs yesterday and kept food down. Not been sick since Monday either.

I have to drive for 30 mins for a scan tomorrow so resting up as much as possible today as I'll have to have a shower, get dressed, leave the house etc. All things I haven't done in a while. Am taking a daily suppositry to keep things moving as I do suffer with severe constipation.

@BeautyAndTheBump1 and @kissingthebear I am jealous of your close due dates. Really hope your babies put in am appearance soon.

justtheonethen · 06/05/2020 12:43

Hello all. I've had a few awful days . I'm so done and I'm only 29 weeks.

@Jaylou7 massive respect to you, you have been through so much. Did you try steroids? How are you doing?

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 06/05/2020 12:45

@kissingthebear aaah good, I'm glad you've had a little improvement. I'm like that too, if I manage to clean or do something like wash the pots i feel like I deserve an award 😂 I ring my husband like 'guess what I washed the pots!! 💪'

This is my first, I originally wanted 3 kids but that's a major hell to the no now. I also wanted them close together (like 2 years). I will go in for one more, but going to wait until this one is around 4 years old and in full time ed as theres no chance I can look after a toddler all day and battle the HG demon at the same time.
What about you? Is it your first?

@FilthyforFirth hopefully you will get some relief soon! I believe it's quite rare to have HG throughout the entire pregnancy, I think most people get relief from 20 weeks! So fingers crossed for you 🤞

kissingthebear · 06/05/2020 18:12

@BeautyAndTheBump1 As much of a battle as it is, it just feels like a major win to get up, get dressed and get a job done. I've sat outside in the sunshine for a while and it's helped improve my mood massively. All in all, not too bad a day!!
Have a reassurance scan tomorrow too so that'll help break up the day!

This is my second, I suffered with HG with first but think it got better at around 6 months. I've suffered much worse this time and all the way through. My DS is 4. I couldn't have managed with him being any younger.

@FilthyforFirth I hope you feel better soon. I felt the same as you, I used to weep when I saw my due date at the bottom of the list. It never seems possible until it's done. Hang in there.

@justtheonethen sending posi vibes, I know it feels like ages away, but you're getting there. I hope you get some respite soon x

LucindaE · 06/05/2020 21:30

kissingthebear That is so true. That fabled Pink Castle at the end of the Hyperemesis horror ride is beckoning you from the clouds. Smile
and for BeautyandtheBump and others....
BeautyandtheBump Happy bouncing. Grin about eviction notice.
justtheonethen Sorry to hear of the awful days.Sad
FilthyforFirth That is good news.
Anyone who goes for it a second time is very brave. But it must be so nice to have two. I always regretted not going for it a second time.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

FilthyforFirth · 06/05/2020 21:36

Thanks @BeautyAndTheBump1 unfortunately I was one of those rare ones last time. I was on an ondansatron drip whilst having my section as I was still throwing up. I had a glorious reprieve between weeks 18-23 so am pinning my hopes on that happening this time round.

Thanks @kissingthebear. I found this thread a ways in last time, so I was always middling or near the top! Depressing to be at the bottom right now.

Thanks@LucindaE. I always said I wouldnt do it again and would be lying if I said I havent had some fleeting moments of regret. But then the guilt sets in. I just desperately wanted to believe I could be one of the lucky ones who didnt get it again. The stats say 80% likely to have it again but I know quite a few people now and every single one has had it again, most more severely, including myself so far. Where are the 20%?! Do they even exist?

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 07/05/2020 07:53

@FilthyforFirth aaah no, I'm so sorry I didnt realise. 😫 hopefully you get the little break again to recharge the batteries & give the throat a rest.

Snowwhite2020 · 07/05/2020 12:04

Hope everyone is doing ok. I’m having problems with showers at the moment- I don’t know why but they really seem to prompt a wave of sickness/ wrenching...

Snowwhite2020 · 07/05/2020 12:07

What a nightmare @FilthyforFirth my mum was still sick for three days after having my brother, she says she doesn’t remember being given any anti emetics during pregnancy but that was 25 years ago. She was terribly sick the whole way through and lost a huge amount of weight. It’s interesting that some studies suggest there is a genetic link for hyperemesis between women and their mums. Mine has not been as bad as hers but she also said her second pregnancy was far worse. Makes her a good confidant for me at the moment when I’m still being sick though. She definitely gets it.

IGottaGetThroughThis · 07/05/2020 12:35

@Snowwhite2020 I’m the same.. showers or baths, I get in and then I’m literally heaving and it takes me ages to build myself up to get back out again as I know it always makes me heave.
I wonder why that is? Maybe the heat?

Snowwhite2020 · 07/05/2020 12:39

@IGottaGetThroughThis it might be the heat yes... I have found if I’m having a bad day moving at all causes wrenching and the threat of vomit. These are the days I find it hard to get out of bed. I actually had a few days of reprieve at the start of the week and was really worried something was wrong but it had come back hard and I’ve actually been vomiting more since...

Calliope87 · 07/05/2020 12:45

Thanks :-)
Going for my GTT test today and dreading even leaving the house Sad
Hope everyone is well as can be x

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 07/05/2020 13:15

Does anyone have any experience with blood in their vomit? I tend to get blood when I blow my nose and have streaks of blood in my vomit...but the last few days I seem to be getting much more blood in my vomit, its red as well so fresh 😒 just wondering if it's of any concern or just basically a deal with it situation 🤷‍♀️

FilthyforFirth · 07/05/2020 13:34

Thanks @Snowwhite2020. I have wondered about the genetic link. My mum had 3 easy pregnancies (by her words) and my sister 2 non HG pregnancies so it doesn't work for me.

I am also having a vomming session after every shower. Gross but I am only showering a few times a week. It makes me weak standing for too long too. I am going to try a bath tomorrow.

I had an early scan today and thankfully everything ok. I was having severe abdominal pains, they think I am having a flare up of my colitis. Glad that is the issue, just need to get on to my GP.

I was sick this morning, I think because I was up and out so early for me. Just uad my second ondanstron and feeling a bit better.

Hope it's a good day for everyone else.

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 07/05/2020 15:06

Hi beautyandthebump I think you should probably get checked out. Persistent vomiting can be hard on the oesophagus, so might be that?

I foolishly tried to take a stroll today as felt I really needed to get out. Wasn't far, wasn't fast but was clearly too much. Feel much worse for it. Not got a scan date yet (I'm 11 weeks now) and feeling a bit anxious about it all today.

Hope others are doing ok. So many of you nearing that pink castle! X
