I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

@LucindaE Thanks

kissingthebear · 28/04/2020 23:10

Thanks @LucindaE - We defo all deserve a medal, it's an endurance test. @justtheonethen - I feel exactly the same. Being pregnant is the hardest thing I've ever had to endure

Snowwhite2020 · 29/04/2020 07:00

@kissingthebear and @justtheonethen I have so much respect for you guys. This terrible sickness really is the worst and I can totally understand only wanting one baby if it carried on right til the end. What a nightmare for you xx

justtheonethen · 29/04/2020 07:34

@Snowwhite2020 this is my second HG pregnancy. Never again. I would love 3 children but I'm stopping at 2.

OoOoBabyLove · 29/04/2020 07:51

@LucindaE yes! it is prochlorperazine! has anyone else taken this? any side effects? i am due to start today! x

justtheonethen · 29/04/2020 07:58

@OoOoBabyLove prochlorperazine is buccastem/stemitil. I haven't had it this time but people do like that they can be dissolvable on the tongue.

Snowwhite2020 · 29/04/2020 08:23

@justtheonethen the midwife told me at my appointment yesterday that HG gets worse with each pregnancy. Would you say that’s true? They are not sure if what I have is HG or just bad sickness at the moment. They said they will need to see how long it persists.

Snowwhite2020 · 29/04/2020 08:29

@justtheonethen I’m so sorry you had to go through it twice 💐

justtheonethen · 29/04/2020 08:41

@Snowwhite2020 I have been better this time as I got meds that worked earlier but I don't know what I would have been like if I hadn't like the first time. I think it all feels worse as you have another child to look after even if it's not!

kissingthebear · 29/04/2020 10:57

@Snowwhite2020 awww thank you 😘 this is my second HG pregnancy, but blimey I can't do this again. I'd say it's worse, and this time I'm on meds (didn't medicate first time as had unsympathetic GP)

I started on those dissolvable tablets - no side effects for me. But they only took the edge off. Xonvea has been great for me - no side effects x

kissingthebear · 29/04/2020 11:04

@Snowwhite2020 also just to say, not every second pregnancy after HG is worse. Some people don't get it at all. I think it just depends, but second time around it's best you start meds almost immediately to stand the best chance of keeping it under control. This is just my experience 😘😘😘😘
It's such a horrible thing to go through, but as cliche as it sounds once your baby is here you are so happy and grateful you had the courage to endure it but equally I sympathise with everyone who can't manage it, it's tough physically and mentally. We're all super hero's!!!!

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 29/04/2020 11:31

@LucindaE thankyou so much 😘 the days are certainly dragging now I'm getting closer, and I seem to be getting worse! 🙈 my nausea is on another level today, I got out of bed, ate scrambled egg for breakfast and then went straight back to bed and havent moved since!!

@kissingthebear Aaah not long at all now! I'm due on the 30th May, but I have a feeling I'll go over quite abit so who knows I might be having mine the same time as you 🙊 we got this!!

Snowwhite2020 · 29/04/2020 12:10

Thanks @kissingthebear ❤️❤️❤️

LucindaE · 29/04/2020 16:30

justtheonethen Thanks for the flowers. I'll put them in water asap! If you should choose to visit us after baby is born, we could call you justthetwothen Smile
Snowwhite2020 Anecdotally, from sufferers' experience on these threads over many years I would say that it doesn't invariably seem to get worse in a second pregnancy (I didn't go for it a second time, which I have often said I regret; well, the Hyperemesis pregnancy was one after a mmc, so I suppose on a way it was a second pregnancy).
Some women say that what with knowing what to ask for in terms of treatment, it is more managable, as taking pre-emptive meds can stop that neurological response which some doctors talk of where the pattern of vomiting becomes ingrained. B ut as justtheone says, it is really difficult with another LO, particluarly, a toddler. In normal times, one can work out a care plan, but at the moment, that would make no difference. A few sufferers say that they have had only normal pregnancy sickness in a second pregnancy. MaryLou243 was one.
OoOoBabyLove That one is used very often. A lot of people find it really helpful. I didn't have it in pregnancy, but do use it for nausea and vomiting with migraines.
kissingthebear and BeautyandtheBump It is such an endurance test for those suffering throughout - and in our current situation, frankly grm.

kissingthebear · 29/04/2020 18:18

@BeautyAndTheBump1 ah we might very well end up waving goodbye to this horror of HG on the same day! Although I hope for your sake it's over as soon as possible. Just found out I'm anaemic from the latest blood test which explains why I'm so tired and short of breathe! One thing after the over 😜

Positive vibes to everyone! X

Snowwhite2020 · 29/04/2020 19:11

Thanks so much for your kind words of support @LucindaE. It is really reassuring to hear from others and everyone’s experiences. I’ve had a really bad day. We went on a walk in the late morning and I had to sit down in the street I was feeling dizzy/ faint after going up a small hill (!) and then when I came home, instead of doing housework I took my anti- emetic and went straight to bed for the rest of the day (I am not sleeping at night and must be pretty sleep deprived.) I feel a bit better upon getting up and will take another tablet and had a small bowl of very bland food once the coast was clear after DS dinner. Just amazing how debilitating the sickness and nausea are but so so helpful to have somewhere to talk about it ❤️❤️❤️

PetiteQuark · 30/04/2020 16:25

Hello. After trying to persevere with the cyclizine, I had ketones in my urine so I was prescribed the dissolving ondansetron yesterday - it’s made such a difference! Still have nausea and too much saliva, but no vomiting today!
How’s everyone else coping with parenting right now? I’ve got childcare two days a week, but otherwise it’s just me and my three year old at home. I feel like a crappy parent as asides from an hour of Lego, my 3 year old has been watching toy story all day. My DH left packed lunches for us both so I didn’t have to venture into the kitchen and my son can get his own snacks from the fruit bowl, but I’m just not up to anything more than sitting still and trying not to be sick. My poor boy. It can’t be fun for him.

Hope everyone else is holding up. I know I said last time that I had HG I was going to have an only, but I’m definitely stopping at 2!

LucindaE · 30/04/2020 18:09

PetiteQuark An hour's lego was nice for him. From all I have seen on these threads, they don't suffer any ill effects from the period of comparative neglect. I didn't know they did a dissolving Onsdansetron; excellent. Does that lock up the bowels too? I hope it avoids that, or it might be an idea to get in the laxatives if the doctor didn't prescribe them.
SnowWhite2020 I am glad that the thread is useful. Congratulations on a walk. No fun to have to sit down, though.

OP posts:
justtheonethen · 30/04/2020 18:49

@PetiteQuark I have the dissolvable ondansetron too, it's a god send. Get some lactulose though- ondansetron is a bugger for constipation.
I think parenting wise we just have to survive. You played Lego with him which is fab, lots of tv won't hurt him and he won't remember as Lucinda says.

Snowwhite2020 · 01/05/2020 21:12

How has everyone been today? 💕

LucindaE · 01/05/2020 22:04

Snowwhite2020 I hope things are bearable for you and everyone.
justtheonethen Excellent advice as ever.
