I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

IGottaGetThroughThis Welcome. Sorry you are suffering again and at this awful time. I hope it eases for you sooner rather than later. I am glad the hospital treated you effectively. As you are a veteran, you don't need my 'have you got kesostix, as while they are not the best way to test dehydration, hospitals to take them seriously' 'a good anti acid can make a huge difference' and 'do you find full sugar flat coke, ice lollies or the juice of tinned fruit any good'.Don't feel too guilty about your LO - from all I have seen on these threads, they forget about it in no time, and a sibling is a precious gift. I have added your date.
IAmSeriousAndDon'tCallMeShirley Sorry that you are suffering badly again, but I am glad that you are at least reassured about the pregnancy.

I’m due 28th November tho this is yet to be confirmed by scan. So pretty close to you @IHaveGotToGetThroughThis 💕

Snowwhite2020 · 26/04/2020 21:11

Also I think the cyclizine are helping. I’ve not been feeling AS bad tho nausea I still intense and have still spend most of the day in bed. So that’s a positive isn’t it? 💖

IGottaGetThroughThis · 27/04/2020 10:59

@Snowwhite2020 We aren’t too far apart, although slightly envious of those few extra days you have less than me. 😂
Be nice to share the journey with somebody going through the same. I did have a scan at 6 weeks due to some spotting which showed a baby with a heartbeat.. however doesn’t stop the worrying does it?
Glad to cyclizine seems to be helping and hopefully it continues that way for you. With you on all of that, it’s helping but still stuck in bed or on the sofa every day. Let’s hope it passes soon 💗

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 27/04/2020 11:42

Aaaah I'm having a day where I'm just completely over it, you know? Laying in bed well and truly feeling sorry for myself. Cant wait for this baby to be born so I can be normal again.
4 weeks & 5 days until DD. 😓

OoOoBabyLove · 27/04/2020 11:42

Hi
please can i ask some advice.
i have read so many pages on MS and HG.
i am currently 9 wks pregnant eith my forst child and since 6 weeks have had constant all day and night nausea, which has evolved into all day and night dry heaving (ive not actually brought anything up) this has caused me to lose 6kg, i am exhausted, can only sip water every few hours, and i have not really been out of bed and got up properly for 8 days. i have tried, ive showered and then had to lay down and sleep after an episode of dry heaving. would you class this as “normal” or somethibg more?
i am feeling horrendous and dont ever remember my friends/family sharing an experience like this about their pregnancy.

thanks in advance
x

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 27/04/2020 11:42

Due date. Not darling daughter 🥴 I'm having a boy 😂

Snowwhite2020 · 27/04/2020 12:28

Not too long to go now @BeautyAndTheBump1! You must be counting the days. I’m counting the days and I’m only 9 weeks 😫

kissingthebear · 27/04/2020 12:33

@BeautyAndTheBump1 I'm well and truly with you here, I cannot wait for this awful ordeal to be over. I'm so so exhausted with it all. Just want to feel like a normal human being again. I've got my section date so I'm on countdown for the horrible taste/and nasty nausea to go do one! 😂

IGottaGetThroughThis · 27/04/2020 18:54

@OoOoBabyLove if it’s affecting your daily life to that extreme, I would say more. However, regardless of the label.. getting help is the most important thing in order for you to function better and avoiding dehydration. With my DS I was sick a few times but it was the nausea that I found controlled my life. The biggest mistake I make the first time was not getting the help I needed. When they monitor how many times you’ve been sick at the hospital they do count heaving on the score sheet as that can also be draining on your body.
Hope you feel better soon 💕

OoOoBabyLove · 27/04/2020 19:38

thankyou so much for your reply, i have been to the doctor this afternoon who has diagnosed HG. i have some anti sickness tablets to collect tomorrow morning, hoping that will help! hope everyones feeling ok xx

IGottaGetThroughThis · 27/04/2020 20:23

@OoOoBabyLove Glad you’ve been and seen your GP and they have given you meds to help. Fingers crossed they work for you! X
Hope everybody else is doing ok Smile

LucindaE · 27/04/2020 21:31

OoOoBabyLove Sorry I am so late coming on today. I am so glad you have got meds from the GP. I am glad you got got advice from others. Everyone is very helpful on here. There is no way that is normal pregnancy sickness. I hope they work for you. If not, don't hesitate to ask for others. Some sufferers have to try a few.

Here is my usual spiel: Things do get a lot better for most sufferers at some point between weeks 15-21. Even the unlucky minroity who suffer throughout almost never feel as bad as in the first tri. Do get kesostix to check for the early stages of dehydration as even though they are not the best test of it, hospitals do take the presence of ketones seriously. You can get them online. An anti acid can make a surprising difference. Here are some drinks that have helped others. Full sugar flat coke, ice lollies, the juice of tinned fruit, Elderflower water, tonic water and Elderflower cordial (eallison's tipple), Lucozade, soda water, lemonade, fizzy orange, orange squash, Iron Bru, orange juice if not too acid, ice cubes, Dr Pepper, Chocolate milkshakes (maybe soya), 7Up, isotonic drinks frozen into cubes, flat full sugar coke frozen into cubes and fizzy water. Some foods of a sort: nibbles of crisps and chips, tinned fruit, slices of melon and mango, baked potato, toasted bagel with butter, grated cheese, cheese puffs, Scotch pancakes, cuppa soup, biscuits and cheap ice cream.
SnowWhite2020 I've added your date.
BeautyandtheBumpOh, dear, poor you, still feeling so bad. Thank goodness you are waddling down the home stretch now.
kissingthebear I hope the nausea is not quite so bad today.
IGottaGetThroughThis Sorry - I got your name wrong. Great advice for OoOoBabyLove.

When are you due @OoOoBabyLove and what meds were you prescribed? I have been put on Cyclizine which is taking the edge off a bit xx

JadeGriff88 · 28/04/2020 09:07

Hi All, I'm 12 weeks with my 1st baby and having the worst time. Finding this thread and reading the story's has been so helpful for me. I don't use social media so up to now I didn't realise people felt the same as me. I'm definitelyIf going to try some of the tips on here with my fingers crossed some work. If reflux isn't making me sick then I feel sick and just vomiting out of no where. I've tried 3 different tablets now and found that Ondansetron is helping the most. It's stoped me from being sick as much and so many times a day. It's not helping with my gagging though?! I've been signed off work for 2 weeks but due to go back tomorrow. My anxiety is through the roof as I'm not sure how I'm going to cope. People keep saying 'ah I bet you're so happy and excited' all I want to scream and cry at them is NO... this is horrible and I hate it. I'm trying to stay positive but I feel so terrible and dizzy 90% of the day.

OoOoBabyLove · 28/04/2020 10:03

thanks @LucindaE for all of those tips!!
@Snowwhite2020 im not due til the end of November. i honestly do not know how il cope if this lasts throughout! how do others cope?!
im unsure what she prescribed, i was due to collect it this morning from my designated chemist but my husbands just been and the prescriptions not there!
im sure she said a word beginning with P but to br honest i was just trying to not faint whilst in the doctors yesterday lol.
hope everyone had a good night xxx

justtheonethen · 28/04/2020 11:09

@JadeGriff88 are you on an antacid? Ask the doctor for omeprazole if not. Really helps the reflux.

@OoOoBabyLove probably phenergan/promethazine, hope it helps.

Snowwhite2020 · 28/04/2020 11:13

We’re maybe due a similar time @OoOoBabyLove my due date is 28th November and I know what you mean about not being able to bare the thought of this going on for 9 months. Just awful. So much respect for people on here who have suffered that long. So difficult mentally and physically. 💕

OoOoBabyLove · 28/04/2020 11:22

oh wow, yeh from what i have worked out i am due 30th november but ive not had a scan yet to date anything, and also just to check all is okay! i do keep telling myself not to get too invested just incase the news at the scan isnt good! dont know why i feel like that with being so poorly something must be going on! x

IGottaGetThroughThis · 28/04/2020 12:31

Went in to see my midwife today. I was told I would be consultant lead for this pregnancy, partly down to the hyperemisis. Did anybody else have to be consultant lead? And did it change much for you during the pregnancy? I presume more checkups and just a closer eye kept on me.

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 28/04/2020 12:37

@Snowwhite2020 it's been tough! Hope you're managing okay hopefully you'll get some relief soon :)

@kissingthebear oh I cant wait to wake up, not feel sick, not throw up as soon as I lift my head...and not have that horrible taste!! When is your section booked for? How exciting! I wish I had a date, I feel like hes going to come late / have to be induced at 42 just to drag it out that bit longer 😂

zhivagodr · 28/04/2020 12:44

@LucindaE thank you for that list. I need to get another shop in and get those foods. I just tested positive at the weekend (around 6.5weeks) and the morning sickness / nausea has hit me like a ton of bricks the last two days. I’ve been sick and dry heaving, the smells of eggs as cooking have turned my stomach, and having to act normal on work skype calls when I just want to lie in the corner!! 🤮

kissingthebear · 28/04/2020 18:45

@BeautyAndTheBump1 my section is booked for 8th June, I am literally counting the days!!!!! I feel so emotional just thinking about it. I had a section with my first and I found the recovery fairly tough and painful but I'm almost excited to feel a different type of pain and loose the sickness/nausea. I won't be breast feeding - just want hormones back to normal ASAP! I can't believe I've made it this far, I honestly didn't think I could do it. Finally there's a light! I hope he comes on time or a smidge early for you - everything crossed.

Sorry for everyone struggling - I have literally not spoken to people about pregnancy at all. Luckily with lockdown I haven't had to deal with people cooing over my bump. I have never embraced it. I think it's understandable to not feel happy when you're so blooming sick. Obviously we're so grateful to be pregnant and want baby here safely more than anything, but it's ok to not be beaming when you're so green. Be kind to yourselves and don't be worried about setting boundaries x

LucindaE · 28/04/2020 21:00

Welcome to JadeGriff88. I am sorry you are sufferring. I am glad the Ondansetron is helping the vomiting. Do get a laxative pre emptively if the Dr hasn't given you a prescription for one, as the constipation is a tiresome side effect. I so agree with justtheone about Omprazole for the acid reflux. Hopefully, that will help with the nausea. I am glad that you have read through the thread, so I am sure you have seen my spiel about drinks, some foods, it being a good idea to get kesostix, and how things get muc better for most poeple between weeks 14-21 weeks. Do ask for your sick note to be extended, particlarly in the current situation. Unfortunately, sufferers to have to take quite a lot of time off with this generally, as rest is as important as meds to help control the symptoms.
zhivagodr I am glad the list helped. I think you may have posted under another user name?
BeautyandtheBump Here's wishing that baby arriives nice and quickly.
kissingthebear I've changed your date.
OoOoBabyLove Would that be Proclorperazine?
IGottaGetThroughThis A number of sufferers have had consultant led pregnancies. It gives the reassurance of extra scans, which is always good.
