I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

@violetlilac absolutely- one day at a time. I think it’s common for people not to tell until 12 weeks but I think everyone needs a small support network- I talk to my mum and that helps me a lot. I think you need to think about who you can trust and then try and talk it out a bit. It’s not good to keep it all to yourself when you are feeling so anxious- particularly if you partner is not so supportive. Please speak on here also. Try to stay calm. Lots of love ❤️💐

Snowwhite2020 · 11/05/2020 20:14

@kissingthebear you can do this girl- so close now! 💪💕

LucindaE · 11/05/2020 22:25

Welcome Violetlilac, pandemicpreggie and Alychloe. You have all had excellent advice already. I hope my usual spiel might be of some use. A good anti acid like Omprazole can make a surprising difference to the sickness. Kesostix are worth buying online or form a chemsits, as while they aren't they best test of dehydration, hospitals take them seriously, etc. Besides Kissingthebear's orange juice, ice and lemonade, here are some drinks that I hope might be useful and food suggestions. Full sugar flat coke, the juice of tinned fruit, ice lollies, ice cubes, soda water, Lucozade, fizzy water, tonic water, Elderflower water, Elderflower tonic and soda water, fizzy orange, lemonade, Dr Pepper, Iron Bru, sips of chocolate milkshake (maybe soya), Isotonic drinks, 7Up, mint tea made with fresh mint, , the orange squash, lemonade and orange juice just mentioned below. Some foods of a sort that have helped others are: nibbles of chips and crisps, Scotch pancakes, tinned fruit, cuppa soup, biscuits, sices of melon and mango and baked potatoes. Some swear by grated cheese. Another tip was melon juiced and frozen as ice cubes. Things do improve for most sufferers between weeks 14 and 20. Even those unlucky ones who suffer throughout only rarely feel as bad later on as in the first tri.
violetlilac I am so sorry you had to have a termination in an abusive relationship before and mayh not receive great support from your OH now. As others say, I hope you have some supoort from friends and family. Do phone Pregnancy Sickness Support on 024 7638 2020 to ask about emotional support. Also do ask your GP for anti emetics, as others urge. There is evidence that pre-emptive treatment really helps. Do keep posting here. Everyone is very supportive.
pandemicpreggie Great advice from kissing the bear and others and I do hope that Xonvea helps you if Stemitil isn't really helping.
Alychloe Some people on here have definitely been helped by Promethazine. If it doesn't help after a few days, don't hesitate to ask for something else.
BeautyandtheBump Poor you. Sad Much symapthy. As others say, you have been really stoic. Cheering you and kissngthebear on.
IamSeriousAndDon'tCallMeShirley You are bearing up well with two LO's at home to keep occupied.
FilthyforFirth I have done it again and can't read my handwriting in my response!
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

This thread is nearly full up; I'll start a new one tomorrow, but my stupid head is throbbing witha relentless migraine today, so I'll defer it until then. I hope everyone is more or less coping today.

@LucindaE hope you feel better soon Thanks

Snowwhite2020 · 12/05/2020 22:18

@LucindaE oh no- migraines are just awful. I hope you get some rest in a cool dark room and that it passes 💐

Jaddypink · 12/05/2020 22:22

Hi, am 6 weeks tomorrow with baby number 3. Previous hg sufferer. Have started taking xonvea up to three a day from tonight. Praying they help me. X

LucindaE · 13/05/2020 21:02

justtheonethen and Snowwhite2020 Thank you for your kind wishes. I'm a lot better this evening, and will get a new thead ready.
Jaddypink Welcome. I do hope Xonvea helps. Some on here have found it really good. Everyone is very supportive on here. As you are a veteran, you don't need my 'do you find flat, full sugar coke, ice lollies and the juice of tinned fruit helpful' and 'have you got kesostix as hospitals do take the measurements seriously, even if they are not the best test of dehydration' and 'a good anti acid makes all the difference' spiel. Did it improve a lot for you at some point in your earlier pregnancies?

Hi all, totally new to MN but came across the board when I was frantically looking for advice on HG. This is my first pregnancy and am really suffering with the nausea and sickness. I've been in hospital (as a day patient) twice now for fluids and was prescribed all the meds up to Ondansetron, which seemed the only one that didn't give me crazy side effects. Has anyone had any experience of the HG symptoms letting up around 12-14 weeks like NVP/traditional MS?

Really grateful for any advice. I'm a little stuck as can't really talk to friends since I'm only at the 8 week mark. X

RockinRobinn · 24/01/2021 19:37

Hi @Seeker2020 welcome but sorry to hear you have been suffering so much.
I found with my first that the sickness eased off gradually from week 14 so I would have more fluffy periods. I returned to work around week 18 but I have a manual job and if I was office based it probably could've been a little earlier. Then came off meds at week 24. It's different for everyone but most of us find the 8-12 week mark the hardest period.
Check out the pregnancy sickness support website they have great advice on their and I've emailed their volunteers and gotten solid advice back especially regarding medication.
