After a mmc with my first pregnancy at 40 earlier this year, I would love to hear any success stories of any over 40s who have achieved a successful pregnancy! Xx

@Idreamof2more congratulations!!! Amazing news. Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy!
@catconfusion exactly. I know of so many people who have sadly miscarried in their 20s and 30s. I am now 42 and nowhere near ready to give up.
@Glittermoon I refuse to read any of three other negative threads on any site. Positivity and honesty really helps me.
Xx

Any tips on trying to get pregnant after miscarriage? Dr says two weeks I’ve also read once bleeding stops

I had a natural at home - down to spotting - scan to make sure it’s all cleared tomorrow

Idreamof2more · 06/01/2021 23:04

I did it straight after bleeding stopped x

Catconfusion · 07/01/2021 04:49

@glittermoon we took a four month break but then I’d had two miscarriages back to back so was pretty messed up. The first was a mmc at 10 weeks and I needed surgery so pretty sure the one straight after was because my body wasn’t ready. The break really helped me work on my mental health and come to terms with what had happened. However I appreciate at our age a break seems counter productive. I conceived my ds the first cycle after my break and I really think it was because I’d done a lot of healing mentally and physically and was in a good place.

That aside, I’d say if you’re feeling strong go for it once you get a negative test and the bleeding stops. A positive mindset really helps. I tried to think of my losses as part of my journey to my dc. You can also be more fertile in the 6 months after a loss so it might just happen. I wish you all the luck in the world! Xx

Hey ladies..another hopefully positive story here.

I conceived DS within 5mths naturally and gave birth at 39. I had GD (not age related) but apart from that a very smooth straightforward pregnancy and birth.

We then started trying for number 2 when DS was 1 and I was 40.5. This was much more difficult and after 6mths they started blood tests and referred us to the fertility clinic. Everything was tested and all came back satisfactory leaving us with "secondary infertility" with no cause. 17mths later Covid had halted our fertility appointment and as I was about to turn 42 we decided to withdraw and just enjoy our DS. We'd genuinely accepted it just wasn't going to happen.
A month later I turned 42, had sex once that month and got a completely unexpected BFP 4wks later!! Think I'm still shocked now.

I'm now 35wks pregnant and will be induced with our little girl in about 3wks. I'm starting to feel a little anxious about it and just hoping it all ends well. I have regular growth scans and there have been no concerns at all so far.

Catconfusion · 07/01/2021 10:38

Awww @MaryShelley1818 good to see you on here. Such a lovely story. It sounds like you dd will be in your arms very soon. I had my ds during the first lockdown and have to say it was a really positive experience so I’m sure you’ll feel safe and be well looked after. I’ve just started trying for baby number two and I turn 42 in June. Really hoping it’s a relatively easy process. Your story gives me hope! Thanks for sharing! Xx

@MaryShelley1818 that’s such an amazing story. I’m just a few weeks you have have your beautiful little one! Thanks so much xx

Hi all,
Reading all your posts I wanted to add my story

I have 23 and 21 year old girls that I had in my early twenties. I'm 43, 44 in March.
I have a 1 year old dd who I had when I was 42 and I'm now pregnant with twins girls. I'm 30 weeks due to have them at 37 weeks.
I conceived my 1 year old without even trying. I then fell pregnant again when she was 3 months but sadly miscarried at 9 weeks, it took 3 months of actively trying and then in June when we dtd once that month I conceived the twins. My partner is 51 this month so we are both doing the whole thing again but I love it ( not sure I'll be saying that in a few months time !) 😀

Liissaa · 08/01/2021 08:01

@Dipsy77 that’s amazing!! Congratulations and thank you! I love this Xx

holidaywindow

While some of the concerns re Down's syndrome are over-stated, some research has indicated that men who are older when they become a parent - DH was 48 when I was pregnant - may result in higher risk for autism of which PDA is a type.

Having said that, my DM was 40 when I was born and my DF 49 and i'm not autistic. Just something to be aware of and maybe push for a diagnosis if any mothers think it's possible and are being fobbed off.

I collaborated with Liz O'Nions with her to devise a questionnaire to differentiate between PDA and Asperger's syndrome and she said that in her opinion that DD had PDA. DD now works in sales where she is being very well paid for manipulating people, so all's turned out well in the end.

Having a rough go today.

My bleeding had stopped and was down to just spotting. Mc was two weeks ago.

We had relations night before last and still spotting

I just want my body to cooperate for me so I can try again.

My ovulation tests are still peak positive every single day so Im worried what my hcg must be and then I worry that with hcg present I won’t ovulate anyway :-(

Whole thing is awful

Liissaa · 11/01/2021 15:10

@Glittermoon don’t worry. It’s still early days and it’ll take a little time for your hcg to drop.

@newtb thanks. We are just keeping our posts positive. As a teacher, the link between autism and the age of the father isn’t something that our educational psychologists are considering as a cause right now. My own sister has an older father and she is just perfect. Some of the autistic people I know do not have older fathers at all. Just positive posts please!

OP posts:
Glittermoon · 15/01/2021 00:48

My hcg Monday at 12pm was 512
Two days later Wednesday 9am 396

So they went down but I wish faster!

I did however start bleeding again with tissue, good amounts. I’m hoping my hcg tomorrow (Friday) will be much much lower.

Just want to ttc again -

Liissaa · 15/01/2021 08:27

@Glittermoon I would imagine it should be if more tissue has passed. I might be wrong, but I think I’ve read something like that remaining tissue gives off hcg? Xx

OP posts:
Glittermoon · 16/01/2021 21:13

So after my blood work on Wednesday I passed more tissues and Friday I was 214

So progress!!!

Monday will make 3 weeks since the mc I hope I’m about done - lightly spotting now

Liissaa · 16/01/2021 23:10

@Glittermoon I hope so! It just takes so long doesn’t it. Hang in there xx

Just to add a positive story. We started TTC around my 41st birthday (very late starter) and had our first baby around my 42nd. I went on to have a sad upsetting MMC when my baby was young and it was hard not to lose faith, but a year later as 44 got closer I hit some luck and I'm now 45 with a 3 year old and a 1 year old. I've been wonderfully fortunate but I've met a lot of early 40 somethings at baby groups, many of them had tried IVF or tried TTC for years, then fell pregnant naturally.

Catconfusion · 17/01/2021 07:50

Oh @Glittermoon I’m so sorry you’ve had to go through this. It must be so upsetting and not nice for it to drag on but hopefully you’ve turned a corner now. Xx

Thank you @PetraRabbit for sharing. Such great news and proof that it’s wrong to doubt the over 40s. Your path, even with the horrible mmc could have easily happened to someone younger. Congratulations on your lovely family! Xx

Catconfusion · 17/01/2021 08:07

It’s the first cycle we’ve not used contraception since I had my ds in April and it’s not looking like we’ve been successful. I’m on day 38 and all tests are negative. It’s looking like I’ve gone back to long irregular cycles. I’ve not tracked anything this time so will start temping next time. I’m 42 in June so hoping to get a bfp before then.

Not sure if I’ve shared this story but a good friend of mine had her beautiful son at 44 with type 2 diabetes. She fell pregnant straight away which was the biggest shock as her condition affects her hormones. I always think of her if I’m feeling down about my age.

Wishing us all lots of baby dust! Xx

Glittermoon · 17/01/2021 18:02

So I’ve been checking my cervix daily and today I noticed something sticking out - I’m still spotting from the miscarriage and I have no clue what’s hanging out of my cervix :-(

It feels like it could be a polyp looking at photos online but I’m hoping it’s just tissue that needs to be pulled out

Paged my dr she said it can wait for tomorrow to be seen in the office

What on earth is going on

I’ve had 3 vaginal scans surely they’d have seen a polyp?

Liissaa · 17/01/2021 20:39

@PetraRabbit that’s amazing! Thanks so much for sharing!
@Catconfusion that’s amazing! Anything is possible. Hang in there. You’re another day closer, we all are.
@Glittermoon I don’t think they get a good view of everything from those scans. They told me I had 2cm of tissue left that would come away with my next period. However, I had two biggish lumps of tissue and other matter come away after that. Both were bigger than 2 cm and I think they were just maybe too low down to see. After I passed the second lot, my bleeding stopped almost there and then. Xx

3 weeks since miscarriage tomorrow and still bleeding

I’m not feeling very hopeful right now.

I will call first thing in the morning to be seen

Just feels like this is never ending
