So who's breech at the moment and how many weeks are you?

I'm 33+1 and I don't reckon this LO will turn!

Will keep you updated

MrsF - As your bub has moved only recently, are they thinking it will move back? I initially misread your post and thought you were being scanned at 37+4...but you are saying that it is another MW appt and then a scan? Is there any chance you can ask for the MW appt next week and then a scan if needed? I do know that in the UK (well based on what I have read) - ECV's are not attempted any earlier than 37 weeks otherwise your baby could be born preterm if the ECV results in spontaneous labour/ emergency cs.

MrsM - sounds as though you have your mind made up to be honest. Do you have a chance to ask the consultant about this stuff before making a decision or by making a decision tomorrow are you simply booking the ECV and then have to turn up when it is booked for? Feeling railroaded is never good.

Ale - I am with MrsM - so much depends on your hospital policy as to what happens. How far along are you? I am nearly 36 weeks and options are only just being discussed re ECV's/ c sections.

Bex - HUGE thank you to you also for your lovely reassuring post.

Hugs to everyone feeling so up in the air with everything. xx

ale233 · 30/08/2007 17:30

Thanks for your advice, hopefully baby will turn round. I am 31+. Hope everything turns out well for everyone!

dal21 · 30/08/2007 17:41

Ale - You do have lots of time although do understand why you are nervous since your last one arrived early. I dont think that they will be discussing options with you yet since at 31 weeks, bubs are still spinning heaps. I would start asking your MW all the questions you have asked us though to find out what the policy at your hospital is.

fettleandminifettle · 30/08/2007 18:59

Hi all

Thanks for your supportive welcome onto this thread - feel a bit of a fraud as I did have a scan last week, which showed baby was back head down again. And having read some of your posts this afternoon, it's possible the bumping in my cervix could be a head - but then it would have to be pretty engaged!! Anyway, have MW appointment tomorrow morning, so we'll see what she says!

Tough decisions being made by you all regarding ECVs/c-sections etc - not even thought about any of it. I was induced at 36 weeks with DD, so that's around now, so this time around, it is all a bit more scary and unplanned!

MrsFish · 30/08/2007 19:24

Dal - Yeah the upshot of the appointment was that I will see the mw again on the 13th September, she will have another feel to see if she thinks it is still breech. If she thinks it is, THEN they will have me in for a scan. Thing is by that time I could be practically 38 weeks

dal21 · 30/08/2007 19:27

Hmm, MrsF - i can see your point. Is it worth calling them tomorrow and trying to challenge that decision? I agree that it doesnt seem to be leaving you with much time to make choices.

MrsFish · 30/08/2007 19:30

I thought I would leave it till after the weekend and phone early next week to see if she'll book me in. Failing that I could lie through my teeth and say I haven't felt him move much in the last day, they'll probably have me in then

dal21 · 30/08/2007 19:32

Decisions decisions. Sounds like a plan. You know - call me naive, but before falling pregnant I had no idea pregnancy could be full of so many symptoms/ complications. No one seems to be having an easy last month!

diddle · 30/08/2007 19:48

well for now baby diddle is head down as of yesterday, i felt it rather painfully wiggle its way round. The consultant seems to think it won't move again, but i know full well that theres every chance it could move up until delivery day. Not easily though.

Good luck to all your ladies, i'll be keeping my eye on you

dal21 · 30/08/2007 19:49

Diddle - that is great news! How far along are you? when do you think it turned? hoping you can reassure us....

diddle · 30/08/2007 20:00

I am 36 wks tomorrow. i felt a definite big turn. lots of wriggling and a bit painful, wasn't sure it was going from breech or just changing sides.

Spoke to my Mother In Law today and her first son, turned every week up until he was born., so theres still time for our babies to change. He was an average baby too, not small, and easier to move.

Alfie72 · 30/08/2007 20:30

Diddle, that's excellent news !! Just you tell that LO to stay put.

This has been a very helpful thread today actually as I am weighing up the pros and cons of an ecv/ elective C section myself at the moment.

I won't be able to make a decision until after my scan next week though really.

Bex- I have been on that elective C section thread too, I couldn't post anything on it as I may have ranted a bit too much.

I'm still sending the positive turn vibes to us all !! +++++++++

fettleandminifettle · 30/08/2007 20:37

Diddle - great news that baby's turned. But i'm with you, my little one is always moving, really big movements and pretty painful, so I'm not convinced he's happy to stay down just yet!! 35+5 today, so he still has time to go either way!!

orangecat · 30/08/2007 21:23

Been away - but my EDD is 10th Oct, Diddle.

Although, I think baby might well have turned - next midwife appt. on Tues, so will find out for sure then.

I had started to worry about the pressure on cervix I have been feeling, but sounds like this might be what it's like to have a head down baby! I was expecting kicks to my ribs, which hasn't happened. But I guess baby is pretty squashed up now.

Going to keep watching this thread, though. I'm interested to see whose little ones turn and whose don't. I had a successful ECV last time, with barely any pain, so interested to hear how others go. Oh, and I remembered that I had a frank breech, which apparently is the best position for turning.

Fingers crossed this one stays put

MrsMar · 30/08/2007 21:27

Hi Dal - to be honest I do think I've made up my mind, speaking to my mum and sister they both said they agreed that an elective cs was safer than an emergency cs, of which there's a greater chance if I go for a turn and vb attempt (taking in to consideration head size etc) It is really hard cos I feel I'm not giving myself the best chance for a vb, but my gut just doesn't feel right about this, and after all my instincts told me I was breech (despite midwives and doctors telling me I was wrong) I feel my gut instinct is right. I'm probably totally superstitious but I have a bad feeling that something will go wrong if I try too many interventions, gosh, I'm even getting spooked thinking about it now [shock}! I think it's exacerbated by the railroading. The pain is that I've got an ante natal class tomorrow between 10 and 12 and I'm supposed to let the hospital know if I want to go for an ecv before 12, so that'll mean I'll have to tell them before 10, so I won't get a chance to speak to anyone else about it.

good luck to everyone else trying to make these decisions, it's a really horrible position to be in, on the one hand trying not to be scared of the ecv proceedure or indeed the prospect of a vb. Being offered a cs does indeed feel like the cheats way out and I do feel guilty for taking that way, but then the thought of a major operation is also quite scary too. All that's balanced by my desire to do the absolute best for my baby, and the possibility of distressing him really upsets me. I'm going to be terrible taking him in for his vaccinations aren't I?

Roastchicken · 31/08/2007 09:43

Had my scan yesterday and baby's head down! I'm not sure if it ever was breech as I always felt kicks high up as well as punches lowdown. Hope the rest of you get similar good news soon.

Holly29 · 31/08/2007 10:05

Bex = thanks so much for your positive post, it was great!

Mrs.Mar - I have posted on the other thread, but good luck with your decision today. Will be thinking of you.

I am off to my moxabustion appointment this afternoon - will let you know what it is like!

Alfie72 · 31/08/2007 11:04

Mrs Mar- I am with you re- the hard decision making at the moment. I hope you managed to get some good answers from chatting to the m/w today.

I also fear an emergency C section / distressing my LO from an ECV. An elective c section isn't the cheats way out at all, it's a tough decision considering all the facts.

Roastchicken- excellent news re the turnaround.

toadstool · 31/08/2007 12:34

Hello ladies - a bit of extra hope for us all, because I had my scan this morning and THE BABY HAS TURNED!!!! Only in the past few days - I was going on about the 'visible head' under my ribs only last night. As I'm 37 wks today, I'm keeping everything crossed that she won't move again - but then DD went transverse at 38 weeks after 2 weeks of being engaged, so anything can happen.
Positive turning vibes to all, especially you, MrsMar - let's hope this is a trend!

MrsMar · 31/08/2007 15:56

Congrats on your turning baby toadstool!

Well I finally took the plunge and actually made a decision, I'm booked in for a section on 13th September. I had a chat with the midwife this morning and based on a few factors (the fact that I've got a terrible cold which has gone to my chest and is threatening to turn into bronchitis, the fact that the baby has been sitting in the same position for 8 weeks, the fact that he's 6lb15oz and has a really big head) she agreed with me she didn't think I'd have a successful turn. I think if I wasn't feeling so ill I'd be prepared to give the ecv a go (couldn't reconcile my feelings of guilt at not actually trying) but considering they'd do it on wednesday and I can't see myself being 100% better by then I thought I couldn't really face it. Much better to get totally well again, and be well rested before the cs so I can focus totally on my baby afterwards and not be completely rundown from bronchitis AND lack of sleep! I do feel a big weight off my shoulders now I've actually made a decision. The hospital were really lovely and didn't make me feel guilty at all about not trying the ecv.

Good luck to all those trying to turn their babies, I'll keep coming back to see how you are!

Alfie72 · 31/08/2007 16:33

Good on you Toadstall.

Mrs Mar- sounds like you have taken a very sensible and rounded approach to your decision.

I'm still hoping that fellow breech watchers have more good news to report.

dal21 · 31/08/2007 17:12

Hoorah for toadstool and roastchicken!!

MrsM - glad you have made your decision! Bet it is such a relief.

My update is that an ECV has been ruled out by my obs. He will not recommend me for one and there is also a chance that the csection may be moved forward (at one point I thought they were going to book me in today!)....so csection it is!!
Will update the stats list

dal21 · 31/08/2007 17:16

Mrs Fish - EDD 30th Sept or 1st Oct depending on whose dates you go by. They won't scan me until mw sees me next which is not till I am 37+4, so not sure what is going to happen yet.

Hi all

I'm glad they accepted your decision so well MrsMar - I think it sounds like the right one for you!

Well, MW thinks baby is still head down and even things it might be 2/5 engaged, so we'll see! She's says the head can't be that big, as it's going into the pelvis so easily - so I think that's good!.

Take care all and I'll be keeping an eye on you all! Started my maternity leave today, so will have more time for Mns from Monday!!
