So who's breech at the moment and how many weeks are you?

I'm 33+1 and I don't reckon this LO will turn!

Will keep you updated

Yes, you're right. Guilt really has no place in all this!

I have also failed at the whole nightie thing. I ended up buying a big t-shirt in Primark which says 'Summer of Love' on it in massive letters - I suppose that it is kind of appropriate! I will just take that and some jim jams for when I feel more up to it. I saw some front opening nighties on the Mothercare website but they look a bit silly I think, so this will just have to do.

Thanks for the positive vibes- I will also do the same for you! I will try my best to post before you go in for yours (can't promise, but the obs said I would only be in 2-3 nights so hopefully I will be home). do you have a text buddy Alfie? email me on
hollyinangel at hotmail dot co dot uk if you don't.

Alfie72 · 16/09/2007 00:14

Will certainly chat to you soon Holly !! Nice work with the nightshirt. I picked up a cheapie at M and S- pink with love hearts, decided against giving mothercare any more of my cash !!
Will be thinking of you

Hopeitwontbebig · 17/09/2007 02:56

Morning all!! Feels odd saying that at this time of the morning! Can't sleep, can't believe it's finally come and today is the BIG day!!!!

Wish me luck ladies x x

Have just texted hopey and she has just arrived at the hospital - is very excited! So am I! Brings mine back!!

Update on me and Ryan. Totally off pain relief (had cut back massively in last few days) and lochia has virtually stopped. I am feeling tired still - energy levels are nowhere near normal, but then section was only 10 days ago. My mum heads home this week and then DH takes his paternity leave. My advice is to definitely line up as much support as possible - I have help until Ryan is 3 weeks old, will then evaluate how I am feeling as to whether we need to enlist additional help from outside, I am hoping not.

Re. the driving - check with your insurance company whether they will cover you at earlier than 3 weeks. My consultant basically said that he didnt want me driving at all before 6 weeks because rest is meant to be paramount after the Op and I guess he is right. If i could drive now - I would be doing stuff I shouldnt and pushing myself a lot more.

Anyhows, those are my updates. Hope everyone else is ok.

dal21 · 17/09/2007 07:37

I meant 6 weeks, not 3....

dal21 · 17/09/2007 08:49

I posted my tale on the elec section thread. Finally had the energy and felt as though it needed a little 'balancing out'. Managed to keep it fairly neutral for fear of inflaming the anti section debate further. Hope it helps some ladies who may have been totally scared by the thread!

Alfie72 · 17/09/2007 13:13

Nice work Dal, Did you see I also posted a couple of times on the el cs thread too to suggest that things were perhaps getting a little out of control !! There was some very valid points on there but also a bit of scaremongering !!
Glad to hear that you are feeling ok and that Ryan is settling in ok. You're doing really well for 10 days post op.
I have lined up help for the 3 weeks after my LO arrives too and scored a cleaner to boot !! Yay !! My bag is all packed and ready to go, the LO is being very wriggly..I hope he/she manages to stay in the " house" until 24/9.
Holly- no long now !!! How exciting !!

dal21 · 17/09/2007 15:15

yes i did alfie, but i feel that the positive stories are still being shouted down. i would never judge anyone for going for elec cs - even for non medical purposes. there are many positives to it and that is the honest truth.

we are doing ok - Ryan is a poppet but hard work also. getting used to complete lack of routine is the biggest thing to get used too. Last week he was on 3-4 hours feeds but that is changing already. I was warned though and in the big scheme of things, he is a great baby so am not complaining.

BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT

HIWBB delivered Niamh Nicole at 11.54 this morning. 7Lb 8. Mother and baby are doing well.

Hoorah!!!

Alfie72 · 17/09/2007 15:59

Excellent news !! "I hope it won't be big" many congratulations and hello to Niamh.

Dal, you are totally on my wave length, I think there are positives and drawbacks to any birth choice at the end of the day.

I think a bit of positive thought does no one any harm- and I am sure it improves the outcome !!

I am sure your little man will get on top of his feeding, It must be a big life change for him too after being all cosied up inside his little warm mama incubator..

Sounds to me like you are doing a good job there.

Holly29 · 17/09/2007 19:28

Hiya breech ladies,

First of all BIG CONGRATS to Hopey. Glad to hear that her baby was not too big after, as she had hoped for!

Dal and Alfie, I totally agree with you. How can ANYONE judge someone for having a c-section. Having read all about them and heard about them on this board they are by no means ann easy option (as my lying awake night after night being anxious about it would confirm!).

Dal, it sounds like you are doing a fabulous job with your wee one. Like you, I have my Mum for the first 10 days and then my DH is taking his paternity leave for 2 weeks, so hopefully this means that I will have support for long enough.

Aaargh... only 3 days to go!

dal21 · 17/09/2007 21:01

thanks guys - the biggest thing you realise once the LO is here is that so many places / books have different advice - it can become mind boggling about what to do. too much knowledge can defo be a bad thing on occasion and until your LO is here, there is no knowing how they are be. I think the best piece of advice i received from a midwife in hospital was to forget about routine and my ideas of how things should be done, at least for a couple of months - as the baby will dictate the day and night - and she is so right. going with the flow, accepting that I dont have the answer rightaway and this whole parenting lark is largely about seeing what works and what doesnt via trial and error is what i am trying to get my head around right now.

my biggest challenge is going from a mega organised, successful business person to a mum where nothing can be planned. only thing that i have managed to stick too thus far is daily (early) showers and getting out of jim jams first thing. give me a week and am sure that will slip too.

holly - please do not be nervous. it will be great. you have my number, so please dont hesitate to text/ call if you have any questions or anything. I do mean it, the offer is there.

Alfie72 · 17/09/2007 22:12

Wise words Dal.
Holly, thinking of you, maybe try and focus on the fantastic outcome when your little one arrives. But I agree, It's all a bit nerve racking isn't it ? Just because it's a bit unfamiliar !!

AnnainNZ · 18/09/2007 06:01

Hello, just popping in to say...I f0und out today the baby is breech. I'm 33+2 so lots of time to turn, I know.

(Waves to RGPargy - hello RG - spotted you a few messages down)

Have spent the last hour reading about turning breech babies and all that hand and knees/bouncing on exercise ball/active stuff sounds good...except that I have high bp and have been advised today to have as close to complete bed rest as I can, to minimise the risk of pre-eclampsia!

So, do I do the active stuff to try to turn the baby or do I do the bedrest stuff? I know the answer - I have to rest, not getting pre-eclampsia is more important than the baby being breech.

I have to say I feel very well, considering all these different issues that keep popping up with the pg!

RGPargy · 18/09/2007 10:12

Morning Anna!!! waves back

Haven't looked into turning baby yet as i'm only 30 weeks so still a loooong time for her to turn. Apparently DP was in the same position for ages and then turned at the last minute and i seem to recall DS turning quite late too, so am not panicking at this stage.

Alfie72 · 18/09/2007 11:29

Hey Anna, I would personally look after yourself a bit and not be too over zealous with trying to make your bubba turn and you have a while yet. He/ she may still do the deed and turn over !!
You could maybe talk to your M/w or obstetrician in a few weeks about trying some alternative remedies if he/ she is being stubborn ? I would be really careful and ask professional advice first given your P.e.
I think as you say your and your baby's health is the priority now and you seem to be in good health at the mo.
Good luck !!

dal21 · 18/09/2007 12:52

Hi Anna - i personally wouldnt try any of the alternative techniques unless given the all clear by your doc/ mw. My obs didnt want me trying anything at one point - you may find it the same with you. Defo take it easy, if its meant to turn it will.

Hi RGP - how are you keeping? I weighed myself just before delivery etc so found out right at the end what weight I had gained.

RGPargy · 18/09/2007 13:05

Hi dal!

My scales have been made redundant now. I stopped weighing myself after i'd put on 1 1/2 stone. Now i just really dont want to know!! I'm scared!!!

dal21 · 18/09/2007 13:07

How are you feeling? how is your pregnancy going? I understand the hiding from the scales, but I was determined to know at the end what the final number was. LOL! Am now on the hunt for another set of scales to see how much I have lost (doubt it is much, BFeeding is making me ravenous! it really is unbelievable!)

RGPargy · 18/09/2007 16:28

I'm feeling fab thanx Dal, if just a little bit immobile, i.e. turning over in bed, getting up off the sofa etc lol. I dont feel as tired as i remember feeling with DS, and i'd have thought it would have been the other way round really, considering my age now and my age way back then!

I wont weigh myself til after baby is here and even then i will have to make sure i do it on a mega-happy day so as not to fall into the depths of depression lol.

Congrats on your baby, btw!! Hope it all went well for you and well done on the BF! Did you do a post in the birth announcement forum? I had a quick look but couldn't see anything.

TinaLC · 18/09/2007 16:57

Hello Ladies,

I haven't posted for a while as internet connection has ben up the spout. I know Dal and Holly from the Sept thread and have been lapping up your c section experience Dal as am booked in this Friday 21st. Agree with everyone here who says that it is not the the easy option and I am having sleepless nights despite being intellegent enough to know that it is very low risk these days. Baby is feet down so there was never an option of a natural birth with the NHS as too high risk.

Quick personal question Dal - did you shave before you went in? Was it just top inch? I would prefer to do this than have it done in hospital.

Great news on HIWBB and lovely name. Also good to hear your early weeks update Dal

x

dal21 · 19/09/2007 11:36

RGP - I didnt know there was a birth announcement thread. I am great, little Ryan is 12 days old already and doing great!

Tina - am glad my section story has helped. i have no idea where the guilt thing comes from - i would have no hesitation in having another one at all. And would even now consider it for non medical reasons a second time round. < dal prepares to be shot down in flame for her outrageous views and lack of respect for well being of future children!>

each to their own i say!
re the shaving - yup, got in the bath, had a good soak and DH was let loose with his wilkinson sword. dont try and do it yourself as every part of the bikini line needs to be done - if you miss a bit, they will have to redo it via dry shave with cheap bic! any other q's, please do ask!

Holly29 · 19/09/2007 13:54

Tina, best of luck for Friday! Mine is tomorrow... and I can't wait now. I really have to tackle the bikini line thing tonight...urgh.

Dal, thanks very much, I have your number in my phone and I will text if I have any questions, thank you! I completely understand your going with the flow thing. I too am a busy professional, someone who is very much in control of my life, and it feels really weird that tomorrow I am going to become a Mum with a small baby I know very little about how to look after, with my Mum having to look after me! But I will take your wise advice...

Anyway. Off to have my hair done now. will post again as soon as i can!

RGPargy · 19/09/2007 18:43

Holly - ooooo how exciting!! good luck!!!

dal21 · 20/09/2007 19:37
