Resting Heart Rate Early Pregnancy

Hi all

As some of you have probably figured out by now, I am a massive worrier!!! So here is another (probably silly) question!

Has anyone else worn a Fitbit during early pregnancy?

My resting heart rate increased from 66/68 to 76, and has dropped down to 73 over the last four days.

I am freaking out that something is wrong with bubba!

My hubby pointed out that I’ve spent the last few days relaxing/having lazy days and that may be it but I am stressing none the less. It still shoots up if I do something as easy going as walking, but the resting rate has plummeted

Has this happened to anyone else who went on to have a healthy pregnancy?

@blodyn91 how did it go? I just had a scan yesterday and the heartbeat is 152. I am 8 weeks tomorrow. My RHR has been slowly dropping over the last week and I am almost back to pre pregnancy heartrate. I know all you ladies have eased my mind. I am thinking of getting a different device. I don't want to take mine off because we get points at work and those turn into money! I may just get a simple device that counts steps and that's it.

AnxiousAnnie86 · 27/10/2020 11:51

@Eggcellent29 i just wanted to say thank you for this post! i know it was a long time ago now, but ive been freaking out watching my heartbeat on apple watch thinking its at its lowest point in a week RHR - im only 4 +2 and im absolutely panicking about everything!!!!

AnxiousAnnie86 · 27/10/2020 12:16

@CFarm0321 it's my resting rate that's dropping is that the same for you? Xxx

CFarm0321 · 27/10/2020 12:20

@AnxiousAnnie86 mine started to go up again. Not as high as it was early on.
Currently waiting for my ultrasound. I'm 9 weeks 4 days. I'll know shortly what's up. Good luck.

This thread has completely reassured me. In 6 weeks today and had noticed my rhr has started to drop a little which like many of you have said freaked me out.

MJM1608 · 03/12/2020 09:02

This thread really helped me this week!! ❤️ Ever since my BFP my RHR has risen steadily then began to drop around 6 weeks pregnant. I was flapping! I had my 7 week scan yesterday and the wee bean’s heart was beating away! Don’t worry ladies - this is not a reflection of things going wrong ❤️ Don’t let it stress you, and if it does.. take it off! xxx

I'm 8 weeks tomorrow and this last week I've been stuck at home sat down most days but my rhr has plummeted so I'm absolutely terrified something bad has happened ☹️

@lucyrp I honestly wouldn’t worry, it’s really not a proper indicator of a healthy pregnancy. My RHR dropped at 7 weeks to 56bmp (normal for me) and has never gone back up - I’ve just had a healthy 12 week scan. Try not to panic and hope you have a healthy pregnancy ☺️ Xxx

lucyrp · 08/01/2021 20:14

@MJM1608 thank you. I had a scan booked privately for next Wednesday but going to ring in the morning and try to change it to tomorrow so my OH can come with me. I'm 8 weeks tomorrow so should be able to see heart beat etc if all is well ☺️ thank you xxx

MJM1608 · 08/01/2021 20:50

@lucyrp private scans are a godsend! I had one at bang on 7 weeks & the wee heart was beating away ❤️ Good for you moving it forward - let me know how it goes & wishing you well!🥰 I really is amazing xxx

lucyrp · 08/01/2021 20:56

@MJM1608 I'm praying its not bad news as I have had no bad signs. I've had terrible sickness so bad I had to go to the doctors for anti sickness at 6 weeks and a serious lack of appetite but I've got such scan anxiety! Was yours internal or abdo at 7 weeks ? Xxx

MJM1608 · 08/01/2021 21:29

@lucyrp Well that’s a good sign but sorry you’re so sick! It’s crap! I’ve been sick every day for 3 weeks which also gave me confidence that there’s a growing bub inside! 🙏🏻 It’s so hard not to get scanxiety, I get it bad too! I’ve had 3 scans already! It was an abdo scan ☺️ My bladder was too full so I had to pee before they could see anything lol! Good luck!! xxxx

Just want to add my own experience of my resting heart rate- mine actually was always in the low hundreds before this pregnancy, and since being pregnant , it's a much lower rate, usually in the 50's and 60's. Personally, I believe my heart rate before pregnancy was awful, perhaps something blood pressure related, and since becoming pregnant my blood pressure will have dropped- I have a feeling that's why my rhr is now lower. At one point, just before becoming pregnant, I went upstairs and checked my hr before going to bed and it was 148! Heart THUMPING in my chest- was pretty scary!

Just wanted to add this info in case anyone comes along who has had a similar experience.

lucyrp · 09/01/2021 17:33

@MJM1608 so my scan went really well today, I think the drop in rhr is just because my body is getting used to the baby and I've been so chilled al week at home. Baby measuring exactly what I thought at 8 weeks, even got a little wave from the limb buds and saw their little heart beating away 🥰 I had so much bowel gas she couldn't see my left ovary 🙈🤣xxx

MJM1608 · 09/01/2021 17:41

@lucyrp Aww that’s amazing - delighted to hear!! Thanks for updating me 🥰 love baby news! First scan is so special seeing that heartbeat, bet you’re glad you moved it forward! When you see their arms and legs moving it is honestly the best feeling 😍😍xxxx

lucyrp · 09/01/2021 17:46

@MJM1608 no problem I think its important to update on posts like this too so for people who are in the same boat stressing can see a good outcome ! Yeah it was so lovely seeing their little heart beating away and little hand waving 🥺xxx

emeraldin · 25/01/2021 02:26

Thank you all for updating! ❤ Your stories have put my mind at ease a bit. There seems to be a trend among all of you of RHR decreasing at around 6-8w.
I've had 2 mmc so worrying is a given. I'm 42 and 6w4d and have watched my RHR decrease over the last few days, coupled with very mild symptoms which is unlike the hell of all-day sickness by now from my last 4 pregnancies (including the ones I lost). I have a viability scan in 3 days and I'm in complete disbelief that I could have a shot at this.
My foliicular phase's RHR is in the mid-40s, then it increases to 57 each mid-tww, decreases just before AF. This time it kept climbing, to 66 (higher than with my last loss), and is now down to 61, decreasing by 1bpm each day or other day.
We shall see what the future holds soon.
Happy & healthy pregnancies to all of you out there!

Kirky658 · 26/01/2021 12:39

Hey ladies I'm just jumping on I am 6+3 today and my RHR has plummeted from 47 yesterday to 40. Admittedly our central heating has broken so I'm wondering if that's a factor but I am terrified something has happened! I still feel nauseous, tired, boobs are sore etc up to yet. Have early scan 4th Feb x

BlueberryPancake21 · 26/01/2021 12:48

I was worried about this as RHR dropped before both of my MCs - one at 8wks and one at 9wks. However, it dropped in this PG as well at about the same time. Was convinced it meant it was over but everything is fine. Now 30 weeks. Probably just one of those things.

@Kirky658 40bpm is very low... assume low heartrate is normal for you? If you're feeling dizzy etc may be worth contacting your GP. Definitely stay hydrated!

Kirky658 · 26/01/2021 12:50

@blueberrypancake21 yes very normal for me pre pregnancy RHR around 45, I do a lot of running so I'm an 'athlete' apparently! I feel fine aside from being freezing cold due to lack of heating!

Phie04 · 26/01/2021 13:12

Hi ladies. Just to share my experiences with heart rates... I'm current almost 33 weeks and the midwives have been concerned with my pulse every time I've seen them. I was even sent to hospital with it at 24 weeks. After an ECG they said my heart was fine and that with some rest it was slowly coming down. To be honest I think it's pretty normal to have a high rate during all of pregnancy. Your body is increasing it's blood volume to support a life, and this puts a lot of strain on your heart. That being said it's always good to get checked out incase an underlying condition hasn't been detected.

I'm waiting for a 24hr ECG and extra monitoring as I was diagnosed with a minor heart murmur at 16 and they want to know if this will affect whether I can birth at a birth centre.

Before pregnancy my resting heart rate was about 80 and now it varies between 85 and 110.

AnxiousAnnie86 · 26/01/2021 13:43

@moominmiss this is the rhr I read when I was worried in the beginning xx

Chelyanne · 26/01/2021 13:50

My resting rate has jumped up around 10 bpm to pump the extra blood around. I've never heard of the heart rate dropping but maybe that is stress related if you have been relaxing more recently. Even if you don't think you're stressed your body will show signs of it. May be worth asking the midwife team about but you are still quite early on so it may go up again yet.

Kirky658 · 26/01/2021 14:50

@chelyanne thanks that's what I'm wondering as well, it didn't really change at all for me after my BFP, but I have been keeping running. I am also napping a lot which could be a factor!

Chelyanne · 26/01/2021 14:58

You do right keeping up with exercise.

I still do powerlifting although I've had to reduce the weight down and I need a nanna nap after lol
