Resting Heart Rate Early Pregnancy

Hi all

As some of you have probably figured out by now, I am a massive worrier!!! So here is another (probably silly) question!

Has anyone else worn a Fitbit during early pregnancy?

My resting heart rate increased from 66/68 to 76, and has dropped down to 73 over the last four days.

I am freaking out that something is wrong with bubba!

My hubby pointed out that I’ve spent the last few days relaxing/having lazy days and that may be it but I am stressing none the less. It still shoots up if I do something as easy going as walking, but the resting rate has plummeted

Has this happened to anyone else who went on to have a healthy pregnancy?

I should have said - I’m around 6 weeks!

Everyone’s resting heart rate varies on an hourly basis . Any rate between 60 to 80 is generally normal. Text book heart rate is approximately 72 ....take off your fit bit and relax !!

VapeVamp12 · 08/07/2019 19:41

I wear a Fitbit my resting averaged 62 for the couple of years I’ve been wearing it and now I’m pregnant it averages between 70 and 72. It’s normal for it to increase a bit in pregnancy

ruralcat · 08/07/2019 19:59

My heart resting heart rate can often be in excess of 130bpm, no doctor has ever said this is a problem for pregnancy. Eldest had tachycardia often when she was listened to by the midwife but that's the only influence my heart rate had on her.

Eggcellent29 · 08/07/2019 20:18

Thank you all for your replies :)

It’s not the increase that’s concerning me, it’s the sudden drop.....

This happened to me and I took it off as I was driving myself mad. My heart rate was really low too - in the fifties - and I've subsequently been old I've got a hugely underactive thyroid! Everything was ok anyway but I would advise you to ditch the Fitbit x

MrsSquiggler · 08/07/2019 20:27

This happened to me as well - after initially rising my Fitbit resting heart rate plateaued and then started to drop at maybe 6 weeks (?) - I was obsessing over it and had to take the Fitbit off. I haven't put it back on and I'm now 27 weeks and all is well. Take the Fitbit off!

Eggcellent29 · 08/07/2019 20:57

Thank you ladies, it’s good to hear some positive outcomes!! 🥰

I’m only a couple of days off 6 weeks and I’d say it started dropping in the last couple of days. It was 76, yesterday 75, now 73. But my general day range is still higher than normal.

I think I’ve gone a bit mad 🙈 I’ve got a scan in a couple of days. If all is well I am throwing my Fitbit out the window!!!

Mine goes up and down, it started at around 52 (I was quite fit) and is now 61 - I'm 19 weeks. It's interesting to keep an eye on but nothing to worry about unless it is outwith normal human ranges. Don't worry, it's not really related to the health of the baby. Also, wrist worn heart rate monitors aren't actually that accurate, so try not to take it too seriously.

Eggcellent29 · 13/07/2019 09:02

I had a scan at 6 weeks and bubba was absolutely fine :)

However, RHR has now dropped 3bpm since that scan the two days ago! 😩 it’s now even lower than when I found out that my first baby had died.

I’m trying to hold on to the tiny glimmer of hope that this means that rhr isn’t related to baby’s health, rather than that something has happened to baby in the last two days

I knew pregnancy after miscarriage would be hard but this is another level!

@Eggcellent29- it’s so so hard and I have good days and bad days. I’m 18 weeks tomorrow and still worry about every little twinge/pain. Still nervous about going to the loo and and toilet paper checking . I was so tempted to buy some baby bits in the sale this morning but I couldn’t do it and it actually bought tears to my eyes that I couldn’t.
With regards to your heart rate I would strongly advise you to just leave it alone. Because worrying about it will cause it to increase potentially and then you’ll be worrying about that. If you ever want anything like that checked then to go the GP and they can do it properly xx

amehh · 13/07/2019 13:37

I wouldn't worry, I wear a garmin and wondered the same thing - my non pregnant RHR is around 45-48 bpm on average and whilst pregnant my Garmin has registered it as anywhere from 55-67 RHR but I have still had a couple of days in the 40s as well. I'm 24+3 now and everything is okay so I think it's just one of those things. You'll be making extra blood so your heart may be working a bit harder with all that (and you are growing something! Your body is busy!)

If it raises or drops significantly then maybe query it but I wouldn't worry for small changes, and this is coming from a massive data junkie!

Congratulations :)

Greyhound22 · 13/07/2019 14:49

Mine has gone between 78 and 132 today without much effort. Seriously you will drive yourself mad. Heart rate constantly fluctuates.

Mine was usually 105 + in pregnancy. 73 is perfectly normal.

Eggcellent29 · 13/07/2019 21:29

Thank you so much ladies.

I’m hoping that this dropping will stop. I know I should just take it off but I can’t seem to. Last time, everyone said I was crazy for worrying about it but it turned out to be a missed miscarriage. But I had lost symptoms, so far this time I haven’t

Please keep answers coming! :) helps me to remind myself not to be too crazy!

I know this thread is dead, but in case anyone comes across it asking the same question I wanted to update as lots of the threads I looked at didn’t have an outcome!

Here is my Fitbit screen from around 4 weeks to 8.5. As you can see, my resting heart rate was all over the place!!! A scan at 8+1 showed that baby was fine. In my previous pregnancy, my screen looked almost the same and ended in miscarriage.

So heart rate and miscarriage are totally unrelated as they were the same in both outcomes for me!

Thanks for updating and congratulations :)

IWouldLikeToKnow · 28/07/2019 09:15

A change between 76 and 68 is definitely not all over the place. In fact that's perfectly normal. RHR is constantly changing. And will vary from minute to minute never mind day to day.

Eggcellent29 · 28/07/2019 10:17

Well, I found it distressing none the less. Before pregnancy, it had never really varied outside of 66-68, so it was a big variance for me.

I appreciate that I am a massive worrier (understatement of the century!) but perhaps this could help a fellow massive worrier feel a bit more relaxed :)

I just wanted to say thank you for posting this update. I am 6 w 5d and have been worrying about my resting hr dropping a few beats over the last few days. I had a MMC earlier this year too and my resting hr had returned to what it was before I was pregnant, although I still had all other pregnancy symptoms...Good to know it’s not a sign of impending doom! It’s so hard not to worry about EVERYTHING

umabb · 24/11/2019 11:09

Thank you so much for posting the updates! I was just worrying about exactly the same thing ! you ARE eggcellent !! Xx

Eggcellent29 · 24/11/2019 17:34

@umabb Haha, thank you! My pregnancy has been ongoing and my heart rate is still all over the place so I don’t even bother to look at it anymore

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

OP posts:
umabb · 24/11/2019 18:06

Congratulations to you too!
Let's wish the coming days are a bit easier for us. Tiring to worry all the time (I can't stop myself!)

Eggcellent29 · 24/11/2019 21:40

@umabb It is so hard not to worry, especially in those early days! How far along are you? I wish I could give some magical advice to stop worrying, but I found the only thing that really helped me was when I started to feel movement every hour! 🙈

OP posts:
umabb · 24/11/2019 21:53

@Eggcellent29 11weeks today so still early days.. had a scan last Wednesday at 10w+3 was all well but I can't wait for next already which is the 12 weeks booked for Dec 4th .. fingers crossed.. I try to relax but the bad experiences before really made me this crazy worrying person! BlushSad
When did you start to feel the movements ? That must be amazing ..! :)

Eggcellent29 · 25/11/2019 11:36

@umabb That is fantastic news about your 10 week scan :) I think the ongoing pregnancy rates are excellent from 10 weeks onwards.

Oh don’t worry, I’m a crazy worrier too so you’re in good company! 🙈😂

Erm I think around 18 weeks or so, but they were just little flutters. Proper kicks didn’t come into play until around 20/21 weeks. Now they can sometimes hurt, haha!

I am sure your 12 week scan will go perfectly :) have you shared your news or are you holding on for a bit?
