Hi, I'm on my forth pregnancy and am trying to decide on a girls name. What does everyone think of the name Beau for a girl? This is the only name that me and DH can agree on and I'm just wondering what other peoples opinions are. Thanks.

I love both robin and robyn

But I know a young lad who had a younger sister, and as soon as she was named robyn, his nickname became batman ...

loopyredangel · 25/06/2007 19:11

Oh I didn't mean to offend anyone, just we had already decided on the name Jak, as DH grandad is no longer with us. We chose the name Robyn for a girl because his grandad loved Robin red breasts and gave a tree ornament to his 2 daughters before he passed away. What's weird is whenever we are down or things are tough, a little Robin always appears, I am convinced it's DH's grandad telling us everything is going to be okay. I did toy with having Robin as a middle name but a few people have said he might get picked on - Jack Robin.

I can't use the name Bella as my youngest daughter is Gabriella! And my niece's NN is Chloe-Belle! Which is a pain as I really like the name Belle!

Lovely - was on my list.

Bo is the girl version (yes, I believe Ulrika Johnson has one) Beau for a boy.

Bo Peep, obviously. I love Bonita. lovely name.

I think Bo short for Boadicea is cool!

MadamePlatypus · 25/06/2007 19:59

Would be particularly cool with a down to earth second name - Boadicea Jones (although perhaps not ethnically correct...)

Bibis · 25/06/2007 20:02

I think that it is an awful name to saddle a girl with. Do you want her to be picked on from the beginning?

There are loads and loads of unusual and different names to choose from with out giving her a boys name.

Just my opinion

wow! what a coincidence. No, I am not stalking you

Menarefrommars · 25/06/2007 21:48

Sorry but really don't like it.

Surprised it's a boys name though cos it means Beautiful.

It's you child though at the end of the day so go with what you like

Posie1972 · 26/06/2007 11:37

Haven't you chosen a name yet Emmared? You have had plenty of time and lots of suggestions. Keep going.

I still think Titania is fab. And Tallulah. And Betty. And Eva.

Not going to bother with boys name. Am convinced its another girl.

Enid · 26/06/2007 11:38

think beau is horrid, sorry

for a boy or girl

JoolsToo · 26/06/2007 11:39

not keen, I'm afraid I don't like what I consider to be trendy or contrived names hence my 3 have traditional names, bob, bill and ben ...........

1Wish · 26/06/2007 12:07

It's far to girly and poncy to be a boys name. Sounds much better for a girl. Personally i think boyish sounding names are really cool for girls, like Tyler, Danni and Charlie for example.
So go with what you both like or you might regret it, and to be fair not many of us like our names as children anyway so you can't win

morningglory · 26/06/2007 15:41

Beau is a boy's name. Bo can be for a girl (Bo Derrek) or boy (Bo Diddley).

I think that the boys names that sound cool for a girl are either girly sounding (Lesley) or just cool sounding (Cameron).

If your daughter has aspirations to be a model or actress, and unusual name really helps (there was a model/actress named James). If she has a more mundane job, she might get some strange looks.

Funny names of people I actually know:

Best friend from elementary school, born near Christmas:
Holly Berry Brent. Married a guy named Jared Bush. Now she is Holly Berry Bush

Girl I grew up with: Amy Sherman Succup. Not only is the last name abysmal, she used to wear monogram jumpers all the time. ASS

Aloha · 26/06/2007 15:44

Beau is a boy's name, surely?

Aloha · 26/06/2007 15:45

Beau Brummell
Beau Geste

Boy's name. Also a sweet old fashioned term for boyfriend, 'he's her beau'

emmared1980 · 26/06/2007 20:40

Thanks again to everyone who has replied to this post. I think we are going to stick with this name for now at least, unless something else comes up which we both like and agree on. Still open to suggestions if anyone has got any nice names. Now it's just a boys names to think of!!! Ahhh

BettySpaghetti · 26/06/2007 20:45

We have Belgian relatives with a little girl called Beau.

Until then I'd have said it was a boys name too

Posie1972 · 27/06/2007 11:45

PLease no! Someone come up with something other than Beau for a girl - she will be calling the NSPCC by the time she is 5 for the ridicule she has to face!!

What about Suky?
