Hi, I'm on my forth pregnancy and am trying to decide on a girls name. What does everyone think of the name Beau for a girl? This is the only name that me and DH can agree on and I'm just wondering what other peoples opinions are. Thanks.

what about john wayne, his real name was mariane or something

honeyapple · 25/06/2007 12:36

ah! forgot about cameron diaz. But TBH I think it's blooming horrible!

honeyapple · 25/06/2007 12:39

Wasn't John Wayne a Shirley?

reindeermum · 25/06/2007 12:40

I'm sorry but Bo just makes me think "BODY ODOUR" ie B.O.

thirtysomething · 25/06/2007 12:41

Given that it's a masculine adjective in French it's very much a boys name - sorry! How about Bella for a girl or Isabella, which could be abbreviated?

kittywits · 25/06/2007 12:44

Beau is a boy's name, don't call a girl that. sounds crappy, sorry!

ernest · 25/06/2007 12:46

Nikita is a Russian boy's name - it's the diminutive form of Nokolai (Nicholas)

Posie1972 · 25/06/2007 12:54

John Wayne was a Marion.

Big Daddy the wrestler was a Shirley!

Sarah is a smashing name by the way....

Posie1972 · 25/06/2007 12:59

Then there is Jacob, Issac, James, Elijah and Mason (haha) for a boy.

Mabel, Evie, Eva, Sarah, Moya and Lola for girls!

hilare!

LynetteScavo · 25/06/2007 13:28

Surely girls names end iin an a so it it sould be Dexta for a girl.

MuminBrum · 25/06/2007 17:14

Or Dextrose?

Hulababy · 25/06/2007 17:15

All the people I have known of named Beau has been boys.

sunshineandshowers · 25/06/2007 17:25

I think Beau is lovely for a girl. fab name. embrace the now!

lisad123 · 25/06/2007 17:29

Goingfor3, I love that name and knew a girl with that name, she is a sweetie.
Most people were unsure of my DD name, tanisha when she was born and I know one of my sisters didnt like it. But it suits her and her friends shorten it to nisha and my mum to Tani.

To the OP, name your child what you want, and sod everyone else, just always rememeber children grow inot adult, so dont recommend a name thats terrible as an adult like fairycake, trixie tiklebell
Lisa

Is Nikita not also a French girls name though? A la film?

loopyredangel · 25/06/2007 17:59

I was going to call a girl Robyn Maya, but I have just found out I am having another boy!

collision · 25/06/2007 18:12

I saw a chap in Sainsburys the other day with the cutest baby boy. I got chatting to him (as you do) and asked what the baby was called.

'' he replied.

'That's unusual' I replied. 'As in bean??'

'No' he answered grinning. 'As in Tom!!'

The child was called Sawyer!! (Not soya!!)

Poor kid is going to say that for the rest of his life!!

belgo · 25/06/2007 18:28

loopy - Robin is also a boy's name!

honeyapple · 25/06/2007 18:35

Collision- you're not a fan of 'Lost' then??

collision · 25/06/2007 18:38

Is there a Sawyer in Lost then? Not a fan myself.

I just thought Soya and not Sawyer.

PestoMonster · 25/06/2007 18:40

I don't like it much because I would keep thinking about Bo Peep and her sheep, I'm afraid.

collision · 25/06/2007 18:42

Soya is quite pretty for a girl!

loopyredangel · 25/06/2007 18:56

I know belgo, but I am not keen on it for a boy, we are calling him Jak after my DH Grandad.

soraggers · 25/06/2007 18:56

I get called soya all the time by people who cant be arsed to pronounce my real name (Soraya)

and i called my son Robin :-) so yes it is the best name on the planet

Guitargirl · 25/06/2007 19:02

Yes, I agree 'beau' would make me think of a boy - if you like 'beau' then how about as others have suggested 'belle' or 'bella'.
