Hi, I'm on my forth pregnancy and am trying to decide on a girls name. What does everyone think of the name Beau for a girl? This is the only name that me and DH can agree on and I'm just wondering what other peoples opinions are. Thanks.

Well me and my sister have been through our family tree and lets just say it's a big NO on my side of the family.. We are both Welsh, my mums family have got Irish links. Thats about as exiting as it gets!

Belle is the fem. form, Beau is the masculine form. If you like the name then surely go with the spelling Bo, as in Bo Dderek. Beau is just asking for a lifetime of trouble, not only having an 'unusual' name, but also the wrong gender.

scorpio1 · 25/06/2007 09:17

i know a girl Beau...its fine IMO. Also like Bo apelling, but as an after name, like for example Daisy Bo.

JeremyVile · 25/06/2007 09:23

Yeah sorry, lovely name but i would only ever assciate it with a boy.

laksa · 25/06/2007 09:36

if you spell it Bo not beau its a girls name of chinese origin meaning 'precious'

SoupDragon · 25/06/2007 09:37

I prefer it for a girl TBH. The spelling seems girly to me - personally I'd never name a boy that (although Bo seems more boyish!! )

edam · 25/06/2007 09:37

Not my cup of tea but it's your baby, go with your own feelings!

TaylorsMummy · 25/06/2007 09:38

i like it

i prefer it for a boy cos it means handsome but it's fine for a girl too

fireflyfairy2 · 25/06/2007 09:58

I don't associate it with a boy either, but then I had never heard of it until a friend named her baby girl beau & it really suits her

Posie1972 · 25/06/2007 11:23

Oh no! When I think of Bo it always reminds me of BO (as in body odour!).

Not a good name to saddle your child with!

MadamePlatypus · 25/06/2007 11:26

Beau is pretty would be like calling a girl 'handsome'.

emmared1980 · 25/06/2007 11:56

Thanks for all the replies, seems like a mixture some like it, some don't. It does make me happier knowing that I'm not completely mad thinking of this name for a girl.

Most people seemed to think it was a boy's name though. How unfortunate.

Mabel is a nice name for a girl I think.

I know an Isabeau (girl), and Bo is for a girl or boy.

But Beau for a girl .....I have to admit, I'd say it was a boy's nmae

snowleopard · 25/06/2007 12:16

I disagree with most of you - I've heard of several girls called Beau, as well as others called Bo. I also think it's cool. And I also think OP should go for it!
