I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.

And yes sorry I am pregnant now again
I was hospitalised last time as I was so poorly and also have rental issues so need to stay on top of hydration
They did prescribe to me straight away but I think I'll have to do another med instead of cyclisine as I'm so restless with it

bumblebee39 · 02/11/2018 13:50

Oh dear @eallison88 some lactulose might be worth it then...

I swear by fybogel though

Priscilla83 · 02/11/2018 17:19

Have been to & called lots of pharmacy's today cant get ondansetron...beginning to panic!

LucindaE · 02/11/2018 19:53

eallison Don't feel guilty. He'll have a whale of a time, lots of interesting activities and toys, and soon be confident about going. Hugs.
Congratulations on moving your bowels. You are not the only one one here who has had to use - ahem - 'manual extraction'. Well done on eating two satsumas a day - and not tinned!
Bumblebee It sounds like a good idea to ask for another anti emetic.
beanhunter Sorry about relapse. Sad
shouldidoitspoilt I hope you saw my welcome message. Interestingly, there have been a coupleof women on here who have found Cyclizine makes them have insomnia, while it makes others sleepy.
Pricscilla Oh no. Have you got another anti emetic in the meanwhile, as better than nothing?
MotherofPearl I am glad that your LO's are thriving. The Pink Castle is doing well, thanks - the drawbridge is always down to welcome those who have reached the end of the Hyperemesis Horror Experience.
Waves to all.

priscilla I hope you managed to track some down. I had a similar problem last week but found some eventually. It does seem there is a slight shortage. I found success with a big chain pharmacy (lloyds), a local Lloyd's branch might be worth a go?

eallison88 · 02/11/2018 21:55

beanhunter sorry you're feeling rough again. Hope you find the combo of meds that settles it again sooner rather than later.

When I went to pick my son up they were doing circle time. I couldn't actually see him in the circle (he was there, I just couldn't see him!). Eventually one of the workers pointed me out to him, he looked over, his little face got sad and he ran over for a big hug. Had a big cuddle with me whilst one of the workers told me how he'd been (absolutely fine, no tears, ate loads). I asked him if we should go home... "not yet mummy, we're doing songs". So he made me wait fot 2 more songs! So I think it's safe to say he had a good time - certainly better than if he'd been at home with me!!
Unfortunately I didn't get to a chemist today cos I had a rough day. Turns out all my safe drinks from last tome are NOT safe this time. Theonly thing i can drink in any quantity is milk (i can slowly sup ice cold water). And we had no milk. Cos hubby got drunk and forgot to buy milk last night (do not fear, he has been told!!) So i was eithout. And couldn't face going out. So didn't have enough to drink today. And once the day slips down the vicious cycle of HG it just gets worse and worse, as you all know. But neighbour brought milk at 3. So was ok then. But not time before nursery pick up to get to chemist. Will send hubster tomorrow.

SeaEagleFeather · 02/11/2018 22:16

shouldidoitspoilt stop the cyclizine now until you can speak to a doctor or pharmacist. It's a very safe med but that is a really unusual reaction so you need to stop it until a medico can give you proper advice.

I can't get at the website that lists all the side effects as I'm not in the uk (if anyone can, it's the british national formulary site) but I doubt very much if there are any harmful effects as it -is- so safe, but all the same. Better to check.

reastie glad you got metoclopramide, it seems to be quite effective. Certainly helped me. Just one proviso: if you get notable twitchiness and restlessness then check with your doctor. It won't affect the baby but that twitchiness is a right pain and very, very occasionally it can become permanent so do check for their advice.

shouldidoitspoilt · 03/11/2018 07:12

@LucindaE
Thank you for the welcoming message this is a lovely and helpful thread which is great

I've eaten some cereal bar through the night to stave the sickness but I do think it will get worse as the pregnancy progresses
I was being sick up until I had my son last time and it kicked off about 6 weeks pregnant to be really bad

@SeaEagleFeather
Thank you for your concern your post is very sweet. I do know that I'm not allergic to it and some people do just become restless with it.i tollerated it ok yesterday so i want to try and stick it out and see if it settles.
I have to go back to the gp next week anyway for a checkup

I should really ring the midwives shouldn't I?

SassehMonsta · 03/11/2018 07:17

Priscilla, any luck? I managed to get some easily at a large boots store. Tesco didn't have any in 4mg last time I went looking, but got some in a different, smaller Boots. My Lloyds also has some (but their queue is always ridiculously long).

Priscilla83 · 03/11/2018 07:47

@SassehMonsta no I tried all the local pharmacies here yesterday, I even called the pharmacy at the hospital. There is a large boots store about 1/2 hr away maybe I'll give them a go today. I've been told that it's a problem with the manufacturer. I did have probs last time but eventually managed to get them in a Lloyd's a bit further away.

shouldidoitspoilt · 03/11/2018 08:12

Can you call Pharmacierge
Are you in London? They will deliver today

Otherwise be with you on Monday in the post?

They are excellent and I use them for a lot of my prescriptions

Secondly do you know if you can go get any injections of the ondesetron if you're really ill?
You poor thing

bumblebee39 · 03/11/2018 08:35

@eallison88 glad he had a good time at nursery. But sorry you've been feeling unwell with the HG and no milk.

Hope you have some luck today @Priscilla83

Priscilla83 · 03/11/2018 08:41

Thanks guys we are going to try the pharmacies further afield now. Fingers crossed.

bumblebee39 · 03/11/2018 08:48

And toes! @Priscilla83

Is there anything I can take alongside PROCHLORPERAZINE?

It's amped up the last couple of days. I can only drink Coca Cola (slightly flat) and eat food I don't have to cook (ready meals, food out) which is getting expensive...

Had a salad in macdonalds yesterday and a smoothie so not starving, just struggling. May be because I didn't take my medication at 4am as usual as lay in a bit but the 4am starts are unsustainable

Priscilla83 · 03/11/2018 09:13

Is it wrong that I'm doing a happy dance for finding somewhere that has Ondansetron!?!? I've called a big boots further away and they have put them aside for me. Amazing the things that brighten your day when you've HG!

bumblebee39 · 03/11/2018 09:17

@Priscilla83
Not at all out meds make life bearable again!

Reastiepeace · 03/11/2018 09:17

So I told my mum yesterday to get the prescription for stemetil but under no circumstances give them the ondansetron separate prescription as they don’t have it and won’t get it and I need to get dh to find somewhere today. I’ve just found out she left the ondansetron with the chemist. Arrggghhhhhhhh. I need the prescription back to take it somewhere with it. Dh has gone to get the prescription script back from the chemist but they won’t give it back will they, I can just see it being a data protection thing that they won’t give it to him. Help!

bumblebee39 · 03/11/2018 09:19

@Reastiepeace sorry to hear that Hun my chemists will never give the damn things back though and never have anything in I need 🙄 they always take it and say "I'm sure we have some of this and can order the rest in" but come back with s full IOU slip and won't give the prescription back. You may need to go down there yourself X

eallison88 · 03/11/2018 10:20

shouldi yes, you can get other types of ondansetron. Tricky yo get them prescribed tho. Theres one you just put under your tongue and it dissolves. And you can have it as an IM injection. The injection is incredibly expensive (£29.76 for 5 doses vs £2.32 for 30 x 4mg tabs). I actually have the injection, as one of my doses each day. But I'm alternating days for the injection now as I am managing with the oral meds most of the time, and I'm aware how expensive it is.

reastie I'm glad you've found some. You should be able to get your prescription back, I did the other week. Tho, itdid only have the one drug on ; does yours have to drugs on one script?

eallison88 · 03/11/2018 10:21

I've taken to making chemists check they have the drugs in stock before I hand over the prescription now.

Reastiepeace · 03/11/2018 10:32

Thanks, I don’t know where the prescription is! Chemist dm said it was at can’t find it and dm now says the prescription was in the bag from the chemist with the stemetil in but it wasn’t! I know she’s being helpful for me but I find the worry of running out of drugs so stressful that it make sure me feel so much worse just having to deal with situs like this. I’m so weak! Annoyingly yesterday I found a chemist that had ondansetron, asked them to keep it one side for me for the afternoon and when dm got there in the afternoon they had given it to someone else in the mean time despite saying they’d keep it for me Angry .

eallison88 · 03/11/2018 10:49

Oh no reastie that's a stress and worry that you just don't need. I understand completely. When I was in a similar position last week my mental state took a right tumble when we didn't know where the drugs were coming from. Fingers crossed you ring the prescription and get the meds soon

Mammabear13 · 03/11/2018 12:42

If you're after 8mg it might be worth asking if they have any 4mg tablets as some pharmacists will give them out if they don't have the 8mg you just need double the amount of tablets but not all will, and not much help if you need 4mg and they don't have it.

Bumblebee I take Cyclizine and Ondanestron alongside prochlorperazine. Prochlorperazine was actually the 3rd drug I added in and as a combo it is working well enough for me. They all work in different ways and to different parts of the brain so a combo can be the best approach.

bumblebee39 · 03/11/2018 12:48

Does ondansetron make you tired? Cyclazine makes me so sleepy I can't take it...

Reastiepeace · 03/11/2018 12:53

So mamma do you just take the prochlororperazine now or the combo of 3? I’m now taking 8mg ondansetron 3x day and cyclizine 3x day and adding in prochlorowhatsit if those two aren’t enough as and when rather than taking it regularly

I’m a bit Blush but I’ve decided to find and plan an amazing holiday for next summer when I’m not pg. dd and dh will need a holiday and it’s making me feel a little better having something to plan to look forward to (obviously a baby is something to look forward to heaps, but this I can waste time on when I feel down). Even if I don’t book anything it’s making me feel better planning it.

Still awaiting to find out where the prescription is but I have enough drugs for the week end at least.
