I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.

Great going eallsion! That's fab you now have a plan going forward.

I can report that the movicol has helped me have my most pleasant toilet experience for the past couple of weeks. I will stick with it and not panic that my HG is getting worse again.

I had my Harmony test today. Hope to get the results by the beginning of next week. Managed Wagamama for lunch afterwards which was just unthinkable 2 weeks ago. I'm really hoping I can start weaning off the meds at the end of this week. Reastie I have been like you and been freaked out by a period of feeling fairly well, only to be followed by a huge dip. I can't say I've felt positive/excitef about this pregnancy at all, and will not until I (hopefully) have low risk test results.

SeaEagleFeather · 10/12/2018 16:15

mauis take your time weaning off the meds.

No one wants to take them but HG takes a huge toll on your body, quite apart from the effort involved in growing a tiny Mauis. Give your body time to recover some strength before cutting down the meds.

Cyclizine, if you're on that, should probably be the last to go as it's the weakest but still distinctly effective, if you respond to it at all

SenoraSurf · 10/12/2018 16:30

Hi ladies I'm 6+2 and really struggling with nausea, to the point where I'm struggling to move beyond getting out of bed.
I haven't been sick but the nausea is constant enough to be impacting me and my work considerably.
Is this grounds for seeing a doctor?
I feel that because I'm not actually vomiting that it's not 'bad enough' even though I'm struggling to cope. It's got to the point where I don't know if I can continue with this much much wanted baby Sad

Reastie · 10/12/2018 17:21

Senora if it impacts on your quality of life it’s enough to see a gp, they have initial drug toptions like cyclizine that are thought of as very safe in pg. they might also sign you off work. Some doctors are ill informed and don’t always easily prescribe. The guidelines are that they should because of the impact on your quality of life regardless of if you’re being sick or not (to my best knowledge).

Mauis good luck with the harmony result. You’re about the same as me aren’t you? I’m nearly 12 weeks.

eallison88 · 10/12/2018 17:43

Hi senora it's definitely worth talking to your GP now. Is this your first pregnancy? Or your first pregnancy with such sickness? It's important to manage the sickness and nausea aggressively and constantly nausea can be just as debilitating as constant puking and can still have a detrimental affect on your ability eat and drink. Cyclizine is almost always the first line treatment, and has been used for nause/vomiting in pregnancy women for many, many years (all off label tho, as no one wants run medical drug trials on pregnant ladies!). If picked up and treated early enough, it's possible that cyclizine would manage the symptoms for you and you will be fine.

mauis Wagamama sounds lush, I proper fancy that now! Be careful with weaning off meds - take it slowly!

MauisLeftNipple · 10/12/2018 18:05

Thanks for the meds advice ladies. I was planning to slowly titrate the doses down. I am on 4mg ondansetron 3x a day and taking cyclizine twice a day. Will halve the cyclizine doses, as that's been the least effective med. Then planning, if I can manage to split the tiny pills, 2mg ondansetron morning and midday, then 4mg evening.

Reastie I am 11+3 by my dates (which I'm pretty certain of) and 12 by the Harmony scan.

SenoraSurf · 10/12/2018 18:06

@eallison88 @Reastie thank you. I will call my doctor in the morning then. Feels ridiculous being this impaired due to nausea especially at such an early stage. I couldn't cope with at least 6 weeks more of this :(

Reastie · 10/12/2018 18:10

Senora I found/find nausea absolutely awfully debilitating. The quicker you can start on a medication I believe the better.

TwoDrifters · 10/12/2018 18:13

On a positive note, every health visitor and midwife that I have had come out to check on me and the baby, they have all commented on my good mood and cheerful attitude despite having a newborn and not sleeping much. I’ve told them all, that in comparison to an HG pregnancy, this is bliss! So that’s one positive for you all, and you will get there, even if it’s early days right now… Flowers

eallison88 · 10/12/2018 18:15

senora I've always found the nausea more debilitating and soul destroying than the puking. Yes, the puking is vile and nasty and flipping inconvenient, but I always felt that at least it was productive!!

LucindaE · 10/12/2018 19:56

SenoraSurf Welcome. If the nausea is so bad you cannot get up, you need anti emetics. Do ask for some. How are the fluids staying down? If you are not getting enough of them down, do invest in some kesostix to check for the early stages of dehydration (hospitals take high readings of ketones seriously as a sign of that). Some fluids and foods - of a sort that have helped:
sips of flat full sugar coke, the juice of tinned fruit, ice lollies, ice cubes, soda water, fizzy water, Elderflower water, Robinson's fruit drinks, Lucoazade, fizzy orange, orange squash, orange juice (if not too acid), sips of chocolate milkshake (maybe soya), lemonade, Dr Pepper, Iron Bru and tonic water with Elderflower cordial. Tinned fruit, nibbles of crisps and chips, cheap ice cream, Scotch pancakes, cuppa soup, baked potato and slices of melon and mango.
Goodness, we are running out a space. I must set up a new thead.

Good on you @eallison88!! Sorry you are still having to fight for your treatment but you are a superstar standing your corner! ⭐️

Another vote for actually being sick over nausea. Nausea just drains every ounce of positivity and energy you have and leaves you an empty husk of a human being. Meds def help to retain a small thread of sanity.

So was having some good days but had a rubbish day today and have the biggest headache! Still hoping I am Close to that illusion light at the end of the tunnel.....
