Well that's me finished work!

It's a bit bittersweet really. I've decided to have my dog put to sleep before baby arrives, which sounds awful but it's the right thing to do for him. Unfortunately the right decision isn't the easiest and it's breaking my heart. He's got behavioural issues coming out of his ears and would never adapt to, never mind be safe with a new baby. My colleagues (veterinary) all agree that at this stage in his life, where he may have 3/6/9/12, however many months left, it isn't fair to subject him to so much upheaval. He's aggressive to strangers, cannot cope with change and cannot cope without me being around.

I've had him since he was 7 weeks old and he's 17 this month. He has been the most incredibly difficult dog from day 1 but his behaviour has been managed well and he's been my constant companion throughout. The plan is to spend the next 2 weeks working through his doggy bucket list (favourite walks, sleeping in the human bed, McDonald's etc) before doing the necessary deed. We're currently having our last walk around the fields near work which is taking forever as he's being allowed to sniff every sniff and chase very bunny....

SisterA · 03/11/2018 15:06

Awww @AnotherOriginalUsername I'm sorry you're having to go through such a tough time. Hope the next 2 weeks are as fun as they sound! Your dogs bucket list sounds a lot like mine...... walkies and McDonald's. Mmmmm :)

AnotherOriginalUsername · 03/11/2018 15:19

Thanks @SisterA. It was what I always said I'd do, although i originally didn't plan on getting pregnant until he had gone anyway. Then my cardiologist said if we want children then to do it now whilst my heart function was good. I thought that after 15+ years of contraception it'd take a while, so in my head thought maybe a year of trying + 9 months gestation. Nope, fell pregnant straight away

AnotherOriginalUsername · 03/11/2018 17:05

On a slightly lighter note, I've got home from work today to a lovely card and very generous cash gift for baby from a distant relative (my late nan's niece) I've never even met before!

shallen · 03/11/2018 21:25

@AnotherOriginalUsername that's so sad, but sounds like it's the best decision for all involved and they have had a very good life.

AnotherOriginalUsername · 04/11/2018 09:13

This morning's thought process...

6am: ugh it's Sunday, the weekend is almost over already (I worked yesterday)

Wait.

Every day is a Sunday now!

😂

Stargirl90 · 04/11/2018 21:14

I phoned midwife this aft as was worried about movements, the usual poking/drinking and lying down didn't work, they asked me to go in. Luckily all was fine, she was happy with the movements she said there was plenty even though I wasn't feeling much, they also gave me a growth scan today instead of the planned one for Friday as was my second time going in for movement, all is good, he is weighing 6lb 1 at 36+2
Glad I went in for reassurance, although as you can probably guess he has been moving lots tonight, typical

BarkerBump · 04/11/2018 21:45

@Stargirl90 Mine does that too, procedure here is if you go in twice for reduced movement they get you in for daily monitoring until they can fit you in for a scan. Typically I was in there for 5 days with him kicking around like crazy Hmm.

I've been going for growth scans every 2 weeks and my big lad was estimated to be 6lb 1 at 34+5!!

AnotherOriginalUsername · 04/11/2018 21:49

Mine was estimated 6lbs at 33 weeks, dreading what they say he is on Friday 😂

SisterA · 04/11/2018 22:12

I just feel sooooo huge I don't even what to think how big this baby might be! Going for ignorance is bliss. And I'd rather have a big baby than a too small baby and it's been my mantra.

I've been batch cooking all weekend & it's helped me feel so much more prepared and relaxed. I'm always concerned I'm going to run out of food Smile

Alas. I am not at the stage of perpetual Sunday's so now I have to go to sleep so I can be human tomorrow...4. More. Weeks!

BarkerBump · 04/11/2018 23:08

My next one is Wednesday, 36+6. I'm half dreading what they say!
He's been over 95th centile pretty much the whole way through, but at his last scan his growth had slowed down a lot. The thought of having a big baby is nerve-wracking, but I'm hoping slow growth is just a blip and he's still the big boy we've been expecting.

ER1212 · 05/11/2018 07:48

First day of mat leave today, feeling slightly smug as hubby leaves for work! Had some lower back pain last night so was thinking things were starting off but nothing since! Good luck to those with more scans booked, remember they can predict much larger than actually happens too.

GreenGooner · 05/11/2018 08:03

My first day of mat leave too. Don't really know what to do with myself. I'm not the best at just relaxing as I get bored easily and desperately trying not to spend loads of money 😂

This could get very boring very quickly!!

No signs my end though.

shallen · 05/11/2018 08:13

Hi ladies,

Anyone else suffering from really bad hip pain at night? I'm trying to lie on my left side as much as possible, but the pain in my left hip is killing me, now I'm getting it in the right side when I swap, I can't win! Already have pillow between my legs and put a squishy mattress topper on last night which made no difference.
Any tips would be great still got 6 weeks and getting no sleep!

orangejuicer · 05/11/2018 08:30

Yep I'm the same. Really uncomfortable at night. I am also sleeping on a rolled up throw and the edge of a pillow. I don't know if that would help but might be worth a try?

AnotherOriginalUsername · 05/11/2018 08:33

Also first day of maternity leave here. Also bored and trying not to spend money! (And I've not even got out of bed yet!). Got a few things going on this week, midwife tomorrow, hairdresser Wednesday, hospital Friday, so that'll kill a few hours on those days. Next job is to get up and drag the dog out of bed for a walk whilst it's not raining...

hammeringinmyhead · 05/11/2018 08:41

Hi all. Baby Hammering was born Friday night at 7 53 weighing 5lb8oz. I was 38+3. Doing great so far! Waters broke Thurs, and a sweep and pessary did the trick on Fri lunch. First contraction to birth in 3.5 hours. Ouch.

AnotherOriginalUsername · 05/11/2018 08:46

Massive congratulations @hammeringinmyhead 😍 Are you home and finding your feet now?

GreenGooner · 05/11/2018 09:00

Congratulations @hammeringinmyhead that's fab news. Hope all is well!!

I'm just off to walk the dog too. Not that I can go far these days but she's happy to be let off on the big field and just runs around happily while I stand and watch 😂

Italianshark · 05/11/2018 09:29

Amazing @hammeringinmyhead - congrats ❤️!

I had bouts of back pain all weekend but hasn't amounted to anything... yet. 37 weeks today!! baby is term so now the waiting game begins!

I turn 28 Wednesday... I wonder if she's gonna steal my limelight?! 😂

julzx · 05/11/2018 09:34
