My movements have been pretty constant but much more subtle since about 29 weeks. That being said, I know I have a monster baby in there and he is rapidly running out of room, so it's become a lot less violent!

Emma198 · 16/10/2018 21:32

I had midwife today - baby is engaged Shock 34+1. I'm measuring about 85th centile which ties in with her growth scan a few weeks ago so looking like a fairly large baby. Pain has changed completely since she's moved right down, it happened at the weekend I could tell with the pains I was getting.

EL332 · 17/10/2018 00:05

Does this seem right for baby for hospital?

Am I missing anything obvious?

@el332 we're taking some cardigans too, just incase they need to get a bit warmer. Can put one on for going home too since pramsuits and coats aren't suitable with car seats.

AnotherOriginalUsername · 17/10/2018 09:47

I'd probably take 6 sleep suits if you're taking 6 vests - if they soil a vest they'll also 99.9% likely to need a new sleep suit too!

Italianshark · 17/10/2018 10:11

Anyone in here had reduced growth at their appointments?

I know most of you have regular growth scans but I'm off for my first one today because the baby appears to not have got bigger from 31 to 34 weeks.

AnotherOriginalUsername · 17/10/2018 10:30

I have on the basis of a scan but they chose to disregard it this time round as it was carried out by a different hospital. Fundal height measurements are notoriously inaccurate, especially if carried out by different people from one appointment to the next. Let us know how you get on Smile

shallen · 17/10/2018 10:30

@Italianshark

Yes potentially, had a growth scan on Monday night after going in for reduced movement and she is only 3lb 6 which is just above my bottom line on my chart and about 2 weeks behind where she should be.

I have another scan on the 31st to see if she has grown at all.

shallen · 17/10/2018 10:34

Everyone and their dog (although not medical people) have all been telling me that babies have growth spurts in the womb where they grow a lot then slow down for a few weeks then grown again! I'm not sure that's particularly accurate though. Just people trying to stop me worrying.

She is having a massive party in my belly at the moment so at least that's reassuring!

Italianshark · 17/10/2018 10:42

@shallen Did they check things like your placenta and the fluid?

@AnotherOriginalUsername yeah I have heard this - hoping the scan later will show a chunky baby like I have always suspected!

shallen · 17/10/2018 10:48

@Italianshark yes they checked the amount of fluid, and then blood flow into heart, checked brain and blood flow through chord, think they checked the placenta, it was a bit of a blur at 1am so I'm not 100%. On mine they said everything was working perfectly fine that they could tell, she was just small. They said to me that 1 scan doesn't show anything and they will need to do another so see what's happening. So be prepared for the same.

My first 2 fundal height measurements showed she was 4.5lb at 28 weeks and on course to be giant! just goes to show how unreliable they are!

Italianshark · 17/10/2018 11:08

@shallen yeah i was the same. 28 weeks she measured 31. 31 weeks she measured 34, then at 34 weeks she measured 34.

Ok, that's reassuring that they are gonna give me a good checking over. My friend had the same happen to her as me, and she was having to go every day! I'm hoping that isn't the case - meh.

shallen · 17/10/2018 12:00

@Italianshark did your friend have to do that because baby wasn't growing? What was the outcome?

Feel like I have a long 2 weeks of willing her to grow before my next scan. Panicking a bit about the outcome if she hasn't.

Fingers crossed yours is all good.

Italianshark · 17/10/2018 12:06

@shallen so my friend found out at 34 weeks like me about the lack of growth. She had a scan, and then another at 36 which showed he still hadn't grown "enough". So it was then that they asked to see her every day and suggested a C Section at 37 weeks but she outright refused both and had him naturally at 41 weeks and he was 8lbs. Don't think id be as confident.

If they are worried I can only imagine they will suggest more monitoring and try to get you as close to 37 weeks as possible. Thank you - I hope everything is alright for you when you go back.

Shes just testing you... lol that's what I keep telling myself Smile

shallen · 17/10/2018 12:36

@Italianshark gosh that is confident, don't think I could go against them like that. although makes sense that the longer they are in there, the bigger they are going to get!
They mentioned a possible early delivery to me if she isn't growing which I did think was a bit counter intuitive!

Funny I had only just begun to say to people that I seem to have had a really nice easy pregnancy compared to some people and then this happened, fingers crossed it's just a blip!
I still have 8 weeks to go so hoping she does some mega growing in that time.

Emma198 · 17/10/2018 12:45

@Italian my fundal height showed no growth between 28 and 31 weeks. So had gone from c80th centile down to 10th.

Went for a growth scan, they also had a good check around and checked fluid, checked she was still a girl.

She came out at nearly 90th centile so I wasn't booked in for another scan. Had fundal height done again yesterday at 34 weeks and that was up at near 90th again so I won't need another scan unless there's an anomaly at a future appointment. They said I would have needed another if fundal height stayed low or no growth, because actually the scan is only a snapshot in time and doesn't prove she's still growing but given she was massive, if my fundal height measurements are ok then they're happy.

I know she's tall as she can simultaneously punch me in the cervix and kick me in the rib.

Good luck today xx

shallen · 17/10/2018 12:48

I reckon my original fundal heights were impacted by the fact they were both afternoon appointments so I had eaten a big lunch, the last one was just after breakfast so my belly didn't had as much food in it!!
Im starting to think it's that inaccurate.

Emma198 · 17/10/2018 12:52

Funny you say that @Shallen, at my 28 week measurement I'd originally been told I'd be having a growth scan so I'd drank a lot, and was also after lunch. The one that was small was at half 9.

Apparently a full bladder can push your uterus right up so add a few cms on.

AnotherOriginalUsername · 17/10/2018 13:48

I've been having fortnightly growth scans since 20 weeks. They will measure head and abdominal circumference, femur length, amniotic fluid in all 4 quadrants and check blood flow via the cord.

I wonder if, as they're dropping jostling in position and getting engaged and things, if that affects fundal height. I wouldn't know as no one has ever bothered measuring mine!

Italianshark · 17/10/2018 13:49

@Emma198 - Yeah I am sure when they measure her today she will be just as big as my bump would lead you to believe (I legit look 42 weeks). And il go back to just my 2 weekly measurements with the MW.

EL332 · 17/10/2018 15:21

Hello - after a second GTT I've just had a phone call to say I do have gestational diabetes.

I can't remember did anyone else here get a GD diagnosis?

OP posts:
Emma198 · 17/10/2018 16:27

Oh @EL332 sorry to hear that. Why did you have to go for a 2nd test?

I can't remember if anyone else got diagnosed either I know a few of us had tests. Have you got to go to an appointment to discuss how to manage?

@Italianshark have you had your scan? Hope it went well.

AnotherOriginalUsername · 17/10/2018 16:30

@EL332 surprisingly, not me (I'm a fatty!) and I'm surprised they've not got me to do a second with the monster baby I'm growing. I think it was @orangejuicer ?

Italianshark · 17/10/2018 16:42

@EL332 oh no, what does that mean for you now?

@Emma198 yeah just back now. She's still a good 5.5lb in there but another scan on 31st to make sure it's going in the right direction xx

Emma198 · 17/10/2018 17:10

As glad she's a good weight @Italianshark. How many weeks are you? X
