I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

I'm so happy to have found this thread, currently 8 weeks pregnant and I have forgotten how bad it had gotten with my other pregnancies. I lost nearly 3 stone with my last baby before there was light at 15 weeks.

I seem to have gone downhill quicker this time, I havent eaten anything of substance since Friday and am no longer throwing anything up except bile hourly.

I cant get in to see my Gp or midwife, the earliest appointment they offered was August 23rd for either!!! I dont want to waste A&E time but I have toddlers to look after and really cant cope anymore.

PrincessPear · 19/07/2018 07:58

Lou that sounds awful! I would go to a and e to be honest, you’ve done what you can to stay out of it, it’s not your fault they won’t see you!

emoji · 19/07/2018 12:07

Hello lovely ladies and sorry I've been awol. I took your advice and went to the GP, I'm now on cyclizine which has helped with the vomiting but not the nausea or the fact that everything stinks. Even DD smells to me Sad
I wouldn't say the drug is a miracle cure but certainly is a nice crutch. Also now I'm not really vomiting I'm feeling a lot more hydrated.

Sad to see new names on here. A club no one really wants to be a part of but sending you a warm welcome!!! ❤️

LucindaE · 19/07/2018 13:55

LouHotel Welcome. I so agree with PrincessPear go straight to hospital for flujids - do not pass go- this is a medical emegency as it sounds as if you must be dehydrated.
Back soon.

I’ve got ondansetron and nutrition shakes now. Bloods drawn and will be back tomorrow. Hopefully this should fix it

LucindaE · 19/07/2018 18:27

LouHotel I hope you managed to get to a and e and are having fluids.
PrincessPear Did you get reassurance about movements at the doctors? I hope Ondanssetron does the trick. Did they warn you about the constipation that is unfortunately a side effect and give you Lactulose or some such treatment?
Notquiteagandt Poor you. That is awful. I suppose the separating muscles which allow for the bump have made you vulnerable to this? What do the doctors suggest?
emoji I am so glad Cyclizine helps. Are you on an anti acid? Some find that amazingly helpful in reducing the nausea?
Apolgogies to anyone rudely ignored.

Just checking back in, i hope things are starting to improve for some of you and sorry to any newbies who've joined that your feeling so rubbish. I haven't caught up with the thread fully.

@LouHotel I hope you've managed to find some help, please don't suffer longer than you need to; it won't do you any favours.

I had my scan last week and now have a due date of 16th Jan. I also got told I was obese (0.4 over their cut off point) so they want me to go for a GTT test at 26weeks.

I explained about the HG though they didn't seem to have a clue about it and told me it will be gone by then (previous experience tells me otherwise or maybe I'm being pessimistic) so I guess we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Currently surviving on potato, ice lollies and chocolate...

PrincessPear · 20/07/2018 07:11

Yes I got told because I’m 15 weeks the movements will not be regular. It feels like they’ve moved slightly so that’s probably it but I still feel a bit anxious.

No they did not! It would’ve been nice to know Shock

Yarnswift · 20/07/2018 08:33

Hope everyone is well.

Question about gall bladders - I’ve recently been experiencing severe pain under my ribs on my right. Midwife says gallbladder (sigh.) I think I had a touch of this last pregnancy but this time it’s worse. A quick google seems to throw up (sorry) an association between severe vomiting and gallbladder issues and also pregnancy in general and issues.

So has anyone had gallbladder issues during pregnancy related to HG? did it resolve after or continue to full on gallbladder disease?*

Ttc2017 · 20/07/2018 12:57

Without sounding to stupid what is anti acid is that like rennies heartburn stuff? This can help with nausea can it? At my wits end with this 24/7 nausea can't move with out feeling I will pass out can't sleep for feeling so sick and keep retching up water and spit sorry tmi

Notquiteagandt · 20/07/2018 12:57

Has anyone been sent to a dietician?

I got a refferal through this morning. Says the epu reffered me. But they didnt say anything. So can only ashume its due to weight loss from HG.

Foodylicious · 20/07/2018 13:15

Ttc you can by Ranitidine in most supermarkets.
It's a 75mg tablet and is ok to take in pg.
1 tablet twice a day if you need to.

Brand name is Zantac but most supermarkets have an unbranded one at about a third of the price

Foodylicious · 20/07/2018 13:15

I lived on Tums last time, but found the ranitidine much more helpful this time

Foodylicious · 20/07/2018 13:18

notquite it's bad that epu did not mention the referral to you.

I'm more if anyone else has been referred.

Forgive me if I am wrong but have you mentioned you bring small/light in previous posts?
If so I guess it makes sense and sounds like a reasonable thing to do, but they really should have asked you!

Notquiteagandt · 20/07/2018 13:52

Yeah I was small anyways but this horrible sickness has made my BMI go down to 17.5 so I am now officially underweight due to loosing weight since being pregnant.

Tbh until they can stop me being sick I am unsure what advise they can give me.

As i cant keep food down. So diet advise is pointless and slightly patronising.

I am just a little put out they didnt mention anything to me.

Olivecake · 20/07/2018 14:05

Notquiteagandt I also got referred to a dietician, presumably due to quite significant weight loss and low BMI , although I have to say they did tell me they were referring me!

Because I have been so ill and even attending appointments is exhausting, I just had an over the phone consultation with the dietician. To be honest I didn’t find it that helpful as like you I struggle with almost any food anyway and it was quite generic advice for sickness (eat bland food). They also sent me some drinks, nutritional shakes, which probably are helpful but they contain milk wnd I’m lactose intolerant so for me not so useful! Hopefully yours will go a little better.

yarnswift I’ve not had any gall bladder issues myself but not sure if any of the other ladies have suffered? That sounds horrible and painful though so I hope t gets better soon for you

Really struggling with the mental health aspect of being a sick recluse at the moment, getting very down and feeling a bit fed up as I still have so far to go! (Only 13 and a bit weeks) and feel like it’s moving very slowly...

LucindaE · 20/07/2018 14:44

Olivecake Sorry about your feeling down. It is hard not to be, when you feel so bad. Time will pass. Perhaps mark off each day on a calander and give yourself little treats - favourite films or something - obviously, not food! This has helped some. Can they recommend some non dariy vitamin enhanced milk drinks? Surely they should know of some. I know you can get soya chocolate milk shakes, after all.
Notquiteagandt Various people - ones who were considered to have lost too much weight - were recommended a dietician. It seemed to vary how helpful the advice actually was.
ttc Ranitidine and Omprazole , as others say, can help with the nausea increasing acidity quite a lot. Great advice from everyone on that.
PrincessPear Lactulose is considered safe in pregnancy. Some use the gell suppositories from Boots, but although they use them in hospital, they wont' sell them to a pregnant woman. Brave souls manage somehow to swallow Fibregel, but that is nauseating enough when not suffering from Hyperemesis. I am so glad you got resasurance about those movements.
Yamswift I must admit to complete ignorance about gall bladder problems - does it produce bile? - if so, then I suppose that is why people suffer so from acidity with this. I hope someone else can advise you well.
rota Sorry about GTI test. Well, people generally lose weight with this scourge, so they are unlikely to be calling you obese for long if you were borderline anyway. That is the only good thing about such a dismal diet. Potatoes are, thank goodness, very nutricous, that it one thing! I'll add your 16 Jan due date asap.
Foodylicious I hope doing OK yourself?
Apologies to anyone rudely ignored.

OP posts:
Yarnswift · 20/07/2018 14:55

It does yes - i have a feeling I’ve had a touch of it since last pregnancy but the pain has been so bad I called delivery - I thought maybe it was labour. Pregnancy hormones can slow down emptying then that plus physical pressure from baby is apparently an exacerbating factor. One more thing to be annoyed about! It’s also apparently something that can worsen HG - not that mine needed worsening Envy

I’m 34 weeks, due 20th Aug if you want to add me to the list :) still puking but not the 50+ a day previously.

LucindaE · 20/07/2018 18:46

Yamswift That sounds awful. Sorry you are suffering so badly, so late on, and that the gallbladder iss ue makes it worse. I hope that was fifty heaves a day, and not fifty vomiting sessions that you had before?

Back on ranitidine twice a day and no vomming today so that's good!

cresentmooned · 22/07/2018 21:23

Hi everyone, Can I join? I can't believe I am back here 3 years laterSad I had forgotten how bad it was! I got really ill last time and GP fobbed me off. But I knew what I was in for this time so went on cyclizine and the HG started smack bang 5 weeks (currently 6). Vomiting through the night but manage to get it under control in the mornings, but spent the weekend asleep. Constant nausea and dry wretching. I can't remember when it ended last time. Have a feeling I will end up signed off for most of this trimester again. People really can't understand it and if one more person tells me to eat a hobnob Angry sorry, self indulgent rant there!
