I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hi everyone. I had hyperemesis in my first pregnancy and after three losses I am now having twins and have it again.

Ended up in hospital last Friday but because I wasn’t dehydrated they sent me home even though I had been vomiting for hours and couldn’t keep anything down

No anti sickness works. Had a better day today.

Mustang27 · 15/07/2018 22:46

Hey @PrincessPear I'm sorry about your losses that must have been horrific for you and your family to deal with but congrats on your twins.

I honestly don't understand how they can turn a pregnant woman away that is saying or are obviously vomiting continuously it's bloody heartless, some fluids and a bed for the night if needed can't cost them that much. Christ if we turned up pissed or high out our face they would. Are you In The uk princess? You may be lucky and it will subside soon but what did you try last time with sickness?

Holland and Barrett for b6 but I have a sealed unopened tub if you want it @Ttc2017 I never brought myself to trying it.

@Notquiteagandt there was a couple of the girls pregnant at the same time as me on the thread that had a massive turn around on symptoms with the steroids I really hope they help you sounds like hell but we all know it is.

Enjoy maternity leave @Boredoftryingusernames

PrincessPear · 15/07/2018 22:52

Mustang Thanks :) they told me they were very busy and couldn’t do anything. My GP wasn’t happy as they had rang through saying I needed fluids as I appeared very ill.

Last time cyclisine worked. I’ve tried it along with stemitil and metoclopramide and none of them work well.

Some days it’s okay but other days I am bedbound by it

Ttc2017 · 16/07/2018 09:59

Princess congrats on your twins can only imagine double the sickness though really feel for you!

Thanks mustang managed to get some this morning but it's 100mg dose which sounds high as every where online says 10/25 mg three times a day so waiting for clinic to call me back to advise. I found cyclisine did nothing but I no some people swear by it.

Metachloride still not brilliant but taking edge of a tiny bit still running to bathroom though and avoiding any food and even drinking is hard as need to spit straight after even the tiniest sip so don't feel I'm getting much in

LucindaE · 16/07/2018 10:07

PrincessPear. Welcome. I am sorry for your losses. Wonderful news about twins! I am shocked. I am also puzzled about how they sent you home from the hospital, as the GP surely measured the ketones and was satisifed that you were dehydrated? What sickness meds are you on?
I'm not sure how many weeks you are along, but take heart, the women on here who have suffered from Hyperemesis expecting twins, usually improve earlier than sufferers expecting singletons - I think because they probably would not have suffered badly had they not been expecting twins, with the double amounts of hormone. Have you got kesostix at home to check your ketones if this vomting continues violently? Does an anti acid help at all? Some liquids others have found helpful: ice lollies, ice cubes, flat full sugar coke, the juice of tinned fruit, Elderflower Water, Dr Pepper, Lucozade, soda water, fizzy water, fizzy orange, orange squash, orange juice (if not too acid) lemonade, sips of chocolate milkshake (maybe soya) and Robinson's fruit drinks. Foods of a sort: tinned fruit - especialy peaches, cuppa soup, nibbles of crisps and chips, Scotch pancakes, slices of mango and melon and baked potatoes.
Waves to all. It is time I updated the Due Dates list.

PrincessPear Sorry, stupid me! I missed that you had Hyperemesis in your first pregnancy - obviously not a twin one; ignore that part of the message. What meds has the doctor got you on?

OP posts:
Ttc2017 · 16/07/2018 10:19

Those of you who found it eased what week did it get better? Struggling to see the light at the end right now

PrincessPear · 16/07/2018 10:41

Thanks :) apparently no ketones were showing but my urine was dark which led GPs surgery to think I was getting dehydrated coupled with the vomiting. At 14 weeks I still weigh 9st 3 despite having a bump so I’m obviously losing it from somewhere else as that’s my normal weight. Today is better, I’ve only been heaving but no actual vomiting. Still can’t eat anything other than Maryland cookies though, which is bizarrely the only food I can eat. Confused sometimes I can eat tinned peaches.

I’m on stematil and cyclisine, tried metaclopramide but didn’t do much.

PrincessPear · 16/07/2018 10:42

ttc in my first pregnancy I had to take anti emetics until 28 weeks, but from about 18 weeks, as long as I remembered to take them I was only sick once or twice. If I stopped, it’d come back but it was much better controlled

TwoDrifters · 16/07/2018 11:51

I’ve been an idiot and let my cyclizine run out. I thought I could get a repeat prescription this morning but my surgery won’t do it over the phone, I have to physically go in, and drop a written request into their box on the counter, and they say it’s a 48-hr turnaround.

I have one tablet left and am going to save it for tomorrow morning as I have a midwife appointment and want to be able to make it to the hospital.

Feeling sick and dizzy now and really annoyed with myself. Angry

Foodylicious · 16/07/2018 18:48

Just checking in.
Sorry to see so many are so I'll Sad

Doing ok here with mostly random nausea and not vomming.

Dizziness ramped up again over the last few days.

And classily I very nearly fainted in Greggs today Blush

Notquiteagandt · 16/07/2018 19:21

So after a little scare today with a bleed.

Had a scan which put me at 8w4d.

It was twins. But one never developed. But saw 1 very healthy baby wiggling away and the right size.

Explains somewhat the HG. (Every dr ive seen has joked about ir asked about twins!)

But also super reassuring to know that it is the right size. And growing well despite being so ill. 🤞

LucindaE · 16/07/2018 21:19

Notquiteagandt My goodness, that must have been stressful and a shock too about the lost twin. But great news about the healthy baby.
Ttc Most people on here find there's a marked improvement somewhere between 15 and 21 weeks. Even those unlucky ones who suffer throughout, are never as ill later on as in those dreadful early days. Can you stand going back to the doctors and asking for additional meds as it sounds as if metoclopramide isn't helping you all that much and if this goes on you for more than a day or so you may end up needing fluids. What are those dreaded ketones like?
PrincessPear I am frankly disgusted with the hospital. Yes, they may have been busy, but your GP clearly thought it serious enough to ring through. Are you in the UK? I think you should make a complaint when you are well enough; I think you can wait a few months and still do it. I am not medically trained or as a biochemist, but I believe that it is possible to be dehydrated without ketones, people seem to vary in producing them if this thread is anything to go by, and the dark urine indicated that you did need fluids. I am glad you can eat biscuits today. Have you got kesostix to check yourself if things get very bad again?
Is your doctor willing to give you Ondansetron? As long as you take a laxative it has helped so many on here.
Foodylicious That sounds awful. I hope you got lots of sympathy. But well heeled pregnant Victorian women did announce their pregnancies that way!
TwoDrifters Sorry to hear of that: I do hope you don't suffer too much tonight. There wouldn't be a 24 hour chemists near you, would there, as you can get cyclzine over the counter? Ridiculously, though it has been used safely with pregnant women since the 1980's, you probably wouldn't be able to get it if they thought it was for you.
Mustang Great advice.

Notquite I'm so sorry to hear about your twin but glad you got to see a healthy baby to
Thanks lucinda going for bloods tomorrow as think my iron is low so might ask again about meds but last doc seemed very reluctant to give me anything at all

Its just so depressing isn't it I've tried hard to stay positive but this day in day out is draining I'm barely having the energy to get my head up right from laying down and with other children to care for that's not good I know it's bad the tiredness but I've never known it this bad and nausea as bad as this don't dare leave the house yet the house also feels like prison and can't bear the look or smell of kitchen and every where is such a mess as Im to tired and ill to face cleaning properly sorry for the rant insomnia got me again feeling sick and tired of being sick and tired! Blergh!

PrincessPear · 16/07/2018 22:36

Today I have been okay. No major vomiting. Scarily okay in fact and is worrying me about the health of the pregnancy.

Booking appt was useless. Lost weight and no one was bothered and they refused to use a Doppler to reassure us even though I’m 14 weeks. I was told because I’d had previous losses they probably would and I feel so sad that they didn’t :(

LucindaE · 17/07/2018 13:11

PrincessPear That seems very insensitive. Sorry to hear about that. I believe you can get one online, but many are reluctant to do so as I believe it is easy to miss the heartbeat and get into a panic about nothing at all.
Ttc Do ask about meds. I know it is hard to fight your corner when feeling terrible. Is there anyone who will go with you to back you up? Then they tend to take more note of it. Unfortunately, this is particularly true if a partner or husband can go with you. With other children particularly, it is important that you are helped to function as well as you can. If you can stand looking at the screen, in my introductory post there are various helpful websites with advice on meds, but if your doctors are being reluctant about meds, do ring Pregnancy Sickness Support on 024 7638 2020. They will ring you back with good advice.

Thanks so much lucinda I've just looked on there but it says only to take metaclompride for 5 days and I have been given a lot longer then that? Also should I be taking cyclizine alongside that? That's so rubbish princess everything seems to be rushed doesn't it it really annoys me

PrincessPear · 17/07/2018 15:25

My partner said it felt like they were just filling the forms and didn’t really care about us. Both of us felt it was rushed. They didn’t really say anything about my severe anxiety either.

ttc I was told cyclisine and metoclopramide can be used together too?

ciaramcfaulresearch · 17/07/2018 17:25

Hi,

I am a researcher from Durham University and I am desperately trying to find women who are suffering so horrendously from Hyperemesis Gravidarum. I am aiming to offer 2 FREE 4D scans to any ladies who are able to participate, and I then analyse the scan and the behaviour of the foetus to investigate the effects of hyperemesis on the foetus.

I aim to improve our understanding of hyperemesis so that we can make steps towards helping the women who suffer so badly from this debilitating illness.

The research will be based in the North East (Newcastle upon Tyne) and you must be at least 20 weeks pregnant at this moment in time. Please respond if anyone is interested in participating- it really is for such a great cause.

Ciara

LucindaE · 17/07/2018 21:47

ciaramfaulresearch I am not a current sufferer, so I have left it up to the women who are to view your post.

Ttc I believe that while some doctors don't like to give Metaclopramide for more than five days, many do; the main problem is that occasionally the mother - not the baby, who is unaffected - can get twitchiness, and then it has to be discontinued. There certainly have been many women on it quite safely for months, and along with cyclizine (and sometimes, also with Ondansetron).
PrincessPear The attitude at that hospital leaves a lot to be desired.

OP posts:
PrincessPear · 17/07/2018 22:04

So today I didn’t have any vomiting, just weakness and the feeling. Until now where I vomited repeatedly on the floor because I attempted to make something to eat. :(

Seems I can either not eat and not vomit or eat but repeatedly throw up... Sad

RockinRobinn · 17/07/2018 22:18

Hello everyone I can't believe it's been so long since I posted.
Thought I'd check in and see how everyone is. Glad that those who are due near me are managing a bit better.
Sorry to hear about the newbies though!
I'm 31 weeks today and managing now without meds since week 24/5 and I haven't had much nausea over the last week (at last!!)
In regards to putting on weight I think it was @PrincessPear I didn't put on any weight above my pre pregnancy weight until about week 22/23. Then had ketones at week 24 check so told to eat more. Hopefully you'll start improving soon as sounds like you're in one of the most grim parts.
Try to eat whatever you can manage I found some foods which I fancied but thought I'd never be able to eat were actually fine (salted popcorn) although can't stand a lot of those things now! I used to get my husband to make me dry toast before he went to work in the morning and leave it on the bed for me so I could eat that as soon as I could stomach anything in the mornings.
This thread is amazing though and really helped me get through so carry on posting to get as much support as possible.
Sending hugs to you all xx

LucindaE · 18/07/2018 15:20

PrincessPear That is so dismal. Remind me what meds you are on?
How are the liquids going down?
RockinRobin Lovely to hear from you, and I am so glad that you have - fiinally - got some relief. Long may it continue! Thanks so much for your kind words about the thread and for coming on to encourage others.

Anyone managed to give them selves a hernia from being sick. Or just me? Painful doesnt come close! 😭😢😭 just one thing after an other....

PrincessPear · 19/07/2018 07:10

I’m on stematil and cyclizine. I’m able to drink now but still can’t eat. Feel dreadful.

To top it off, I can’t feel my babies moving. I know you’re not supposed to yet but I’ve been feeling them for four weeks (I’m naturally very slim and had this in my first pregnancy too). I know at this stage they’ve just moved, but it makes me worry even more. Angry
