I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

It's one 300mg one, sometimes I split it and take half in the morning but usually I just take the whole thing at night as that's when it's worse.

Elephantgrey · 29/01/2018 21:04

Sorry everyone I am a bit behind.

I have had a difficult few days for other reasons but I definitely think I am starting to feel better. I actually feel hungry! I still have the acid reflux but I actually like food now.
This means I will probably put on about 20 stone! Lucinda I laughed at the idea of feeling like an inflatable sofa.

Endora 13 weeks is a really miserable time. My Mum kept asking me if I was past the sick phase and I felt terrible. I hope you find a medication regime that works for you.

Orange that's great that it is nearly your maternity leave. I hope all goes well at your next check up.

Natsku I hope your sauna has the desired effect.

AmazingGrace16 · 29/01/2018 23:30

Hi all. Found out today I'm pregnant. with dc1 I had horrific sickness. so much so I had considered ending the pregnancy just to stop the sickness.

I'm really concerned about it this time. would the gp prescribe anything before it kicks in? already feeling nauseous today...

Natsku · 30/01/2018 03:46

Congrats on your pregnancy AmazingGrace and I hope this time around your sickness is not as bad. Definitely go ask your GP about starting pre-emptive treatment, beg if you need to!

Sauna has not had any effect (well except for making my pelvis and hips a bit less achy after yesterday's long loooong walk) sigh maybe the super blue blood moon thingy tomorrow will weave some moony magic on baby!

seizethecuttlefish · 30/01/2018 08:44

So much happening, waves hello Thanks
Natsku in my head I'm singing some Justin Timberlake. Hope you manage to bring 'sexy back'! I'm with Lucinda on this one. Loving inflatable sofa. I poked my bloated tummy for ages, saying look at that bloat until I realised it was actually a bump lol.
Amazing congrats. Def go and see the dr for a preemptive strike. This is my second hg pregnancy and it's so different from the first. Hoping this one is easier for you.
Endora 13 weeks sucks. I felt terrible between 9-16 weeks. Looking back, feels like an age ago. Hugs to you.
Drs appt yesterday and my usual dr was on holiday. The dr I saw was amazing. I walked in and she said give her a minute to read my notes. I said, have a laugh at the longest notes in pregnancy history. She said I could cry for you. You've had a terrible time. No quibbles about anything. Looks like I won't be going back to work before baby. Still feeling queasy but much better than I was a few weeks back. As long as I do things in short bursts I can get housework and things done. So 4 rooms to clear and decorate...it can be done!

butterfly86 · 30/01/2018 09:08

Ladies how much relief do you actually get with Meds? I'm better in the sense that I can keep some food down and fluids now but I feel like the last 4 or 5 days the Meds don't seem to be as effective, I'm nauseous all the time even after I've just taken them where before I was getting some relief until the next dose was due and I've started being sick a bit more again I threw both lots of Meds straight up last night. Is this as good as it gets or do I need to go back?

Didntcomeheretofuckspiders · 30/01/2018 10:17

butterfly I’m on ondansetron and I have good days and bad days. Still constantly nauseous and vomit about 6 times per day but better than I have been in the past. On bad days I have to stay in bed or on the sofa because I vomit if I try to do anything at all. On better days I manage to pop out for an hour or so to do some errands and might spend the rest of the day sitting reading or knitting or something. The real difference is that I’m a bit better at eating/drinking on the drugs. Still have no appetite but I am able to eat small amounts of some foods and won’t necessarily vomit them back up.

Did I read on your thread thy you are on cyclizine? There are a few other drugs you can try so it’s definitely worth going back to the GP and trying something else. Unfortunately, other than admitting you for fluids if/when you need them, there isn’t a great deal they can do.

It sounds like you’re having a really bad time, did your GP discuss signs of dehydration with you and when to seek help? It would be worth getting yourself some ketostix from your pharmacy so that you can monitor if you need fluids.

butterfly86 · 30/01/2018 10:50

didntcomehere thanks for that, yes I'm on cyclizine and prochlorperazine. I'm managing plain food like toast ready salted crisps and oven chips I can't manage fruit or veg which I feel incredibly guilty about! The drinking is more of a struggle as I know I need to have enough to prevent dehydration but it's difficult as too much liquid makes the sickness worse, although it does make it easier to bring up. The midwife just said if I feel like I did when I was admitted then to pop and get my urine dipped but maybe I will get some ketosticks then I can keep an eye on it myself. My urine seems ok this morning but my lips are incredibly dry which was one of the things I noticed last time but I've eaten some toast and had a little water this morning so I think I will be ok, I was sick before having that but managed to keep it down up to now.

Didntcomeheretofuckspiders · 30/01/2018 11:14

I know what you mean about fruit and veg! I can do sweet things or plain things. Food with flavour is an absolute no for me!

SandyBabyToes · 30/01/2018 11:22

Hello; how is everyone? I was on here a while back, my baby boy was born on his due date (BlueButTrue) was my username Grin

Sorry to say I'm still being sick and he's now 10 weeks old. I am guessing it's because I'm exclusively breastfeeding.

I get waves of nausea sometimes and it's horrendous first thing in the morning but luckily I'm usually really good in the afternoon/evenings!

My son sleeps through so it's okay Smile

Have attached a picture, he's so worth it.

So lovely to see everyone's updates.

From the top of my head, how many weeks are you now weasle And justtheonethen?

Thanks

Natsku · 30/01/2018 11:22

See about trying different meds butterfly it's unlikely to get complete relief but some meds give more relief than others depending on how your body reacts to them. I was one of the lucky ones that felt almost normal on my meds after the worst weeks were over.

Sex is the last thing on my mind right now Shehz just woke up from a nap feeling like I've been hit by a train, so weak and sick and feeling all out of sorts. Was alright this morning though.
Midwife has sent my referral for an induction, said it would happen sometime next week if I don't go into labour before that. Had a bit of a computer says no moment when she was trying to send it though as the computer kept saying that I hadn't given permission for my medical records to be shared but I had! She had to print off a permission form for me to sign before it would let her send the referral.
Have lost weight since last week and have no idea why because I haven't been sick. And baby is in a weird position, his bum is right in the middle and his feet are sticking out either side! Maybe he's trying to do the splits in there Grin Still head down at least but quite high up.

Natsku · 30/01/2018 11:24

Can't see the picture Sandy was wondering how you had been doing, sorry you're still feeling sick :(

Endora44 · 30/01/2018 12:51

Thanks everyone for the tips. I'm not yet 13 weeks, only 11 at the moment was 11+3, now 11+5 I still count the days, getting through the day is my only goal right now. I'm mostly bedridden, as soon as I start to move around the motion triggers vomit. Finally got officially signed off from work - haven't been to work in a month, so the dr capitulated I suppose. Have an appt with my midwife tomorrow, so hoping she'll have some advice for me. It's so hard to be feeling so sick -- and this pregnancy is way easier than my last one was, but still feeling so sick. Thankful that I haven't needed to be admitted to hospital this time.

butterfly I could have written your post. Your body does get used to the meds, sometimes it helps to up the dose, sometimes you need to switch meds. I hope you find some relief.

didn't I'm also on ondansetron, also have better days and worse days, maybe that's typical? Though on my better days I'm still bedridden. I'm so happy you can get out and about for a bit. Sitting in bed all day is enough to drive you insane.
Natsku sorry you're feeling so weak, hope it passes soon.
Amazing welcome and congrats! Definitely try to get meds asap, the earlier you start the better the chances!
Lucinda inflatable sofa it is! I surprisingly have very little heartburn this pregnancy, I have omeprazole, but I've stopped taking it because I find I don't need them. I'm nauseous all the time, but don't have the heartburn, which I am grateful for.
In cute news, yesterday my 4yo was nearby when I violently vomited. He was all worried that maybe I'd thrown up the baby Grin isn't that hilarious?
waves to everyone, this thread is so supportive! Thank you.

Natsku · 30/01/2018 13:24

Thrown up the baby Grin

Natsku · 30/01/2018 13:24

Now I see the picture Sandy absolutely adorable!

LucindaE · 30/01/2018 15:14

Welcome to AmazingGrace. Congratulations on your pregnancy, sorry you are suffering again. Which meds did they have you on last time? Were they effective? Do hurry to get pre-emptive meds; it seems that the brain can get into a vomiting pattern, so the quicker that cycle is broken, the better. Meanwhile, how do you find ice lollies, the juice of tinned fruit, flat coke and ice cubes? What liquids suited you best last time? Have you got day care or supportive friends/relatives to help out with LO?
SandyBabyToes What a lovely picture. I am so sorry you are one of the unlucky (underpriviliged) tiny minority who suffer after birth. Take it from one who did too that it will go, when you stop breast feeding. It is brave of you to soldier on with breastfeeding if you are actually vomiting. It can't be easy to get enough liquids down.
Seize Elephantgrey Cuttlefish and others - Grin. Wink An inflatable sofa indeed.
Orange Did I congratulate you on 35 weeks?
Endora I am glad you have at least escaped the heartburn and any admissions. Poor LO - I suppose if they think in terms of the baby being in your stomach, then that is very logical, and probably shows high reasoning powers!
butterly86 Poor you - if you aren't allergic to the others, then it is well worth asking for something else rather than suffering unnecessarily, and certainly worth getting some kesostix from a chemists, just in case.
Cheering on Natsku and Didn't and justtheone and everyone. I hope Shehz gets over her 30 week hormonal surge asap. Sorry if I've rudely missed anyone.
I'm still typing this from the library. No sign of Mario yet, so we probably were sensible in having the PC taken in to a computer repair place, which unfortunately, is 13 miles away!

I'm suffering today :-( I never got admitted as I was feeling slightly better and my wee showed no keytones. I don't think it would if I was tested now but this constant feeling of nausea is really really getting to me now x

Didntcomeheretofuckspiders · 30/01/2018 16:17

Currently sat outside a vicar’s house as we are very early - going to discuss our wedding with her. What are the chances I do an inappropriate sick or at least a poorly timed burp? 😩

Bitzy Tell me about it! I would give anything for a day off!

Herecomesanotherone2018 · 30/01/2018 16:54

Hello everyone :)

Sorry I've been a bit quiet! I had a busy day on my birthday and I seem to be suffering for that ever since. Feel like it's one step forwards, two steps back sometimes.

I'm 10 weeks now though, which feels more manageable somehow, to be in double figures. I know that sounds strange but counting down the days and weeks and knowing there's an end to this is helping.

DD is slowly starting to cut down her breastfeeding now. I feel a bit sad but sometimes doing it makes me even sicker so it's for the best. She's had some epic tantrums lately, presumably as a result of all that's going on as she's been concerned about me, but fingers crossed things are starting to settle now. She understands mummy goes up to bed early now which is such a relief as evenings are my worst time. So overall, even though I'm still sick, things seem a bit more positive than they did a few weeks ago and I don't feel as much mum guilt as I was.

Hope everyone is as well as can be!

didn't That's exciting to be discussing your wedding! Hope the appointment goes well :)

Natsku · 30/01/2018 16:57

Oooo wedding plans!!

Didntcomeheretofuckspiders · 30/01/2018 18:05

It’s all booked in! I’ll be 29 weeks so just hope I’m feeling okay then!

Natsku · 30/01/2018 20:50

Fingers crossed you will be.

Too hungry to sleep, feel sick too, surely there can't be a 40 week surge?! That would be too unfair.

norbert23 · 30/01/2018 20:52

AmazingGrace I'm about 6 weeks along and last time I felt terrible by this stage, endless sick etc but this time I've been taking 10mg vitamin b6 4 times a day and eating very plain food and so far no feeling Confused which I'm completely amazed by. Hopefully everything is ok still and I don't curse myself by saying it but I think there's something to the whole pre emotive meds approach. I've also avoided pregnancy vitamins (apart from folic acid) as I'm pretty sure they made it worse.
Thanks to everyone feeling awful xxx

AmazingGrace16 · 30/01/2018 21:44

Thanks for the welcome. This evening nausea came back so the pattern at the moment seems to be evenings probably when I'm hungry. No sicks yet but I'm only 3+2 so plenty of time!
I have a nurse appointment Thursday so will try and book a gp appointment for sickness tablets. I think it was a drug starting with ond before but can't remember. They tried a few different ones but this was the only one that worked!

Blue25654 · 31/01/2018 10:26

Hi everyone, can i pop in with a question? I’m on my second pregnancy, last time got no treatment apart from phenergen i couldn’t hold down even when only urinating every other day and it was awful. I’m currently 7 weeks and think i’m worse at this point than i was last time so worried for how it’ll be in a few weeks time. I got some ketone strips from amazon that say i’ve ‘moderate’ ketones but been reading on here about numbers so not sure how the scales work? My other concern is i can’t hold down the folic acid anymore. Living off small amounts of ice lollies, sprite and jelly. I did try crushing it and putting in a yogurt but no luck.
