I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

You need to get to a dr Blue! Are you taking any medication at all? It sounds like you might need an IV already. Please ring your surgery and don’t take no for an answer!

LucindaE · 31/01/2018 11:40

Blue25654 Welcome. It's awful you received so little treatment last time. You must have been very dehydrated only to have that little amount of urine! I am not sure what 'moderate' ketones are, but usually they admit in the early stages at least, where 'starvation' doesn't complicate the issue, on 3+. If you are around that, do go to the dr's or to A and E. Sorry if you have to,when everything's so overstretched at the moment and there may be a wait. Sometimes they give fluids while you wait. Do you find flat full sugar coke any good besides sprite and I so second ice lollies. Whether you have to be admitted, do ask for more effective meds from your GP. There is some evidence early treatment helps the downward spiral. Some other liquids and foods (loosely speaking) people find helpful; the juice of tinned fruit (and maybe the fruit) Elderflower Water, Lucozade, fizzy orange, lemonade, orange juice, sips of chocloate milkshake (maybe soya) ice cubes, soda water, Dr Pepper, cuppa soup, slices of melon and mango, cheap ice cream, crisps, chips, and jelly.
Natsku I hope it is labour, not a hormonal surge!
bitzy Poor you. It is dismal. Most find the nausea harder to bear than the vomiting. I am surprised there were no ketones, but congratulations on a slight recovery.
Here It must be heart wrenching, but from all I have seen on these threads, DD will forget all about this bleak time, and besides that will have a priceless gift, a sibling. I wish I had gone for it myself!
Didn't I am glad all went well with no embarrassing puking episodes. Over twenty-three years ago (and I am ancient) I went to my best friend's wedding at a registry office at 36 weeks, and as I waddled in ('A Waddle istead of a 'Wiggle When She Walks'), there was much giggling from another wedding party waiting, thinking me the bride, but I am sure they are much more respectful about heavily pregnant brides these days, including vicars.

AmazingGrace That would be Ondansetron. I'm glad you got it. Do try and get it again - and a laxative. The constipation it causes is grim.
Have you got heartburn?
Norbert I am glad that regime is helping you so far.
So annoying - now Mario the PC Man is Back in Town - days late- and we put the PC in a repair place down in Newtown. Now waiting for a phone call. I'm still typing this from the library, which is closed tomorrow, but I will be back on Friday morning!
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

JusttheOne I meant to ask how things are? I hope fine, as they have kept you on the meds.

SandyBabyToes · 31/01/2018 13:35

Blue So Sorry this is happening to you: I was the exact same in those earlier weeks and was in and out of hospital on IV fluids.

Even things I somewhat managed to keep down tasted funny. Was awful.

If your surgery are useless like mine, I would advise A&E instead. They'll assess you, see you're dehydrated (and pregnant), and give you some fluids. You'll feel much better after those and I believe they can also administer anti sickness drugs too via the vein. I've seen someone on here mention that but that wasn't offered to me Envy

I didn't ask though.

Thanks for all the compliments on my DS lovely ladies, or perhaps some of you identify as male too? Can never be too careful in today's post gender identification world Wink

Natsku · 31/01/2018 13:49

Oh dear Blue you sound dehydrated for sure, get thee to a hospital and get some fluids!

Not labour Lucinda at least I don't think so, no pains, just feel like shit. DD's birthday tomorrow though, at least I'll be home for that.

seizethecuttlefish · 31/01/2018 15:55

Herecomes counting down the days is what keeps me going. So I completely get this. Glad you had a good birthday.
Spiders love a wedding chat. Congrats on the impending (that sounds so ominous) nuptials.
Welcome amazing. It's a niche club but we're a lovely bunch. Sorry you had to join us but you'll be looked after.
Blue get to your gp. Don't suffer in silence. There is so much stuff out there that they can use to help.
Natsku hope dd's birthday goes well and you're feeling a bit better. I never made it to 40 weeks, last pregnancy so can't comment on any hormone surges. I'm one big hormone surge at the moment.
Sandy congrats, sorry you're still feeling rough.

In the good news section today. My work are offering voluntary redundancy and I've put in for it. Fingers crossed. I've also managed to shave my legs (2 razor blades people, it was a jungle). I've still got this cold, I have absolutely no appetite. But I don't feel as queasy today and my friend is coming for a visit tonight. In the not so good news section, made a lovely pot of coffee this morning and have enjoyed numerous cups before noticing I had used my husbands coffee not mine and have caffeinated myself and baby to the max. Plus side will hopefully be a laxative effect!

Natsku · 31/01/2018 16:11

DD has suddenly got a bellyache that she says is really bad, have an appointment at the emergency doctor later this evening but really hoping she feels better and we don't have to go. Especially hope she won't be ill for her birthday, she's so looking forward to taking a bag of sweeties to share with her class tomorrow.

Well done on shaving your legs seize! I'm lucky as my leg hair growth slows right down in pregnancy, I just epilate once a month or two and it's fine.

Getting the fanny daggers bad today, ouch!

bitzy12 · 01/02/2018 09:32

I woke myself up this morning at around 5.30am to take a cyclizine tablet and it has worked. I felt absolutely crap taking a tablet on an empty stomach but it slowly passed. Usually I would of been sick 3 times by now and feeling so weak. I haven't been sick and don't feel like I need to be.

I've managed to get the kids to school on time, have a slice of toast before I leave and now a snickers bar and I've kept it all down and don't feel too bad. I do feel sick but not too bad. I'll be doing this early every morning if it works x

Natsku · 01/02/2018 09:35

Glad that it worked bitzy that's wonderful!

Mustang27 · 01/02/2018 13:51

Hey Nat hows your wee girl feeling now?

Ooo Bitzy that's awesome, I never thought of trying that glad you have managed your morning. Very jealous of your snickers right now lol.

Aww Blue (sandy) he is such a cutie. I'm so sorry you are still getting nauseas that's bloody unfair. I'm really in awe that you kept up the feeding though. I wonder how Oklahoma is doing as she was still feeling sick after labour too.

Herecomes that was me and mini one too I was actually really glad when he stopped but I think he might have been a wee bit older than your wee girl tbh it's still hard and really sad when they give up.

Seize you are well past the risk range for the caffeine so don't worry. I think the studies show there might be some correlation between caffeine and miscarriage in early pregnancy but how accurate they are is anyone's guess, I think. Hopefully you get some laxative effect though. Not to brag but that's one of the many amazing things about not being pregnant any more lol. Ooo and well done shaving I'm so impressed I cba but can't bare stubble it makes me feel unclean and itchy.

So mini 2 is full of a head cold poor snuffly baby but he still loves his kip just more often on me at the mo but I think that's to do with him becoming more alert and the phlegm making it hard to breath when he is on his back Sad. He also prefers to be in our bed than his Chicco next to me I think this was about the time mini 1 decided

Mustang27 · 01/02/2018 13:53

Fat fingers Blush

  • it was crap too so I guess il be sharing my bed with both my boys. Ah well worse things to deal with. Don't tell my hv she tells me on every visit not to share my bed Iv yet to get the balls to tell her my 2.5 yr old is still in with us Blush lol.
Natsku · 01/02/2018 15:38

DD's pain went away before the appointment time came, must have been trapped gas. She's had a lovely birthday, building her new lego set right now while we wait for the profiteroles to defrost for pudding.
I'm feeling a lot of pressure low down in my bump today and a fair bit of pain, not sure if it's going to go anywhere but feeling very on edge and anxious - really bad driving weather today with snowstorms so would really not like to have to go to the hospital tonight!

Hehe oh dear, both boys in with you Mustang! we've had DD sleeping on the floor in our room a few times lately but hopefully tonight she'll be back in her own room as she got a new audiobook for her birthday from my parents.

1984FS · 01/02/2018 19:47

Hello All, I've not been on here for a while, since I was very lucky for my HG to go away and not come back. I just wanted to post to say Thank You so much to everybody who gave me advice and encouragement whilst I was struggling through it, especially @LucindaE .. this thread REALLY REALLY helps people!
I gave birth to my amazing baby boy on Monday. He was a nice sturdy 8lb'er and (after a very traumatic birth for me) is doing really well!
Lots of love to all of you struggling through HG, remember it's worth it in the end! X

Shehz21 · 02/02/2018 00:43

1984FS He is gorgeous! And 8lb is going to be what I would aim for if I am lucky, knowing me and DH were both 10lb hah.
So glad you had a good pregnancy after HG let up and your beautiful bundle of joy is finally here.
Rest up, enjoy warm baby cuddles and goodluck on this new beginning Flowers
And thank you for the kind encouraging words!

Blue / Sandy Awww such an adorable hg survivor baby we got there!
So sorry you are still suffering with the nausea. You are indeed so brave to keep soldiering on despite it. Hope you get some respite soon.

Nat Oh damn I hope there are no more relapses for you. So unfair to have one so close.
Lovely to hear about your DD having enjoyed her birthday, hope she is back in bed with her audio book.
Baby Nat better hurry now, we don't want an induction do we?!Shock

bitzy Really happy to hear cyclizine is working for you. Fingers crossed you are able to keep up with the routine and it keeps working.

Mustang oh 2 minis in bed with mama mustang and papa mustang. I donno why the picture in my head strikes me as such as adorable one. Love it!Grin
Hope my wee one prefers her Tutti Bambini rather than my bed. Definitely not planning to co-sleep, planning to get a secondhand sleepyhead if that helps keeping her in her crib.

Waves to Lucinda, Spiders, Seize and the others. Hope everyone is coping so far.

Natsku · 02/02/2018 06:08

He is lovely 1984FS

Had mild contractions all night but they've stopped now. Started exactly the same way with DD so maybe they'll start up properly again later this morning like they did with her. OH is working in the noisy paper factory today though so he won't hear his phone if I call him - he better remember to check for missed calls regularly!
At least I reckon the sickness must be connected to labour now rather than a relapse so that's good.

Mustang27 · 02/02/2018 06:27

Oh Nat I hope something happens for you soon but only if the weather is favourable. Glad your daughter had a good day and very jealous of profiteroles they are my fav with loads of chocolate sauce, I end up just eating them all if I buy/make them so I tend to avoid lol. Did dd stay in her own bed last night with her audiobook then?

Oh my goodness 1984 he is so beautiful, his skin is perfect that's amazing when they are so brand new. I'm sorry your labour was so traumatic I hope you are taking time to relax and heal. If anyone offers to look after you say yes and try not to dwell on it if possible but if it's a struggle to come to terms with don't hesitate to talk to someone if need be. A couple of my friends had traumatic labour experiences and got some counselling and said it helped them tremendously.

Haha Shehz like the grandparents in Charlie and the chocolate factory lol. I personally love them in my bed and because of the time mustang 1 breastfed for, it was so easy just to have him in bed but it really isn't for everyone. I love waking up and the first thing I see is the people I love most in the world. I also love being witness to his wee dreams and sleep talking lol. I'm a weirdo I know. Il be back in 3yrs time saying I want my bed back lol. It's helped by the fact we have a huge super king bed so plenty of room.

10lb baby Shehz supposedly it's easier to birth larger babies so it will all be fine. You are quite young too so you will have stronger muscles lol I'm trying to point out pros here. You will do amazing whatever pregnancy throws at you.

Hope everyone else is coping.

Hope your laptop has been returned back to life Lucinda. Sorry if that's already been updated and I've missed it.

Natsku · 02/02/2018 06:44

She stayed in her bed for the audiobook but came to our room when it finished. And she was so noisy last night, snoring and moving about and kept banging against the wardrobe doors. And her dad called when we were all in bed and she was already asleep, didn't answer of course, I guess he only just remembered it was her birthday late in the evening, typical.
Profiteroles are lush, they sell the GF tesco ones in my local supermarket but I'm trying to be strong and not buy them all the time Grin

It's supposed to be easier to birth big babies because gravity helping them down but it sure ain't easy pushing out their massive heads! DD was just shy of 9lbs with a 99th percentile head - not fun! But my pushing stage was shorter than normal (46 minutes) so easier in that sense.

It's so sweet listening to them talk in their sleep and have their weird dreams but not so sweet if they're wriggling around lots in bed - I guess a super king size bed makes it easier but I had had enough of that by the time DD was 3 or 4, then I turned one of those bedding drawers under the bed into a pull-out bed for her. Now she's been relegated to sleeping on the floor on top of an extra blanket because I can't get out of the bed to wee if she's in the pull-out but that doesn't bother her, she doesn't seem to notice how hard it is on the floor.

Anatidae · 02/02/2018 11:58

Well I’m in hospital. They’re trying to rehydrate me but no one can get a line in. Just waiting for the VeinFinder General to be summonsed from somewhere else in the building.

Natsku · 02/02/2018 12:17

Urgh not fun, is it because of the dehydration they are having trouble or do you generally have difficult veins? Hate it when they try and try and try. Hope they get it in you soon!

My brother's extradition verdict is being handed down on Monday, please send positive thoughts this way for that.

Anatidae · 02/02/2018 12:31

Many positive thoughts your way!

I think mainly dehydration- it’s in now so let’s see if it helps

Natsku · 02/02/2018 13:10

Hopefully you'll be feeling much better soon

nailsathome · 02/02/2018 13:49

Hi Ladies,

Emu told me to head on over this way.

I'm 16 wks with twins and I'm beginning to think that maybe I have hg instead of "normal" ms. This isn't the same as I've experienced with previous pregnancies.

I'm only vomiting once or twice a day but retching every time I move. I can't eat nor think about food, I'm managing a couple of crackers a day. I'm dizzy and faint if I'm not laying down and I'm spending yet another day in bed. I suppose I have lost weight as I weigh the same as I did at my booking in appt.

I've got midwife on Tues so I'll discuss with her but as I said, it's just dawned on me that maybe this is HG. Whatever it is, I don't know how much more I can take!

LucindaE · 02/02/2018 13:54

Hello again from the library, everyone.Mustang Great advice from you, as ever. Sadly I still have no PC, and no good news from the repair man yet. Sorry to hear you will have to LO's in with you. DD spent most of her first months in with us,the sleepless little horror. I am sure that is typical of a huge number of parents.
Anitidae So sorry to hear that you are in hospital dehydrated, and that they are having trouble finding the vein. I hope you feel lots better soon.
Natsku All good wishes for Monday's hearing. Glad DD didn't need the doctor.
bitzy That is wonderful about the cyclizine working well enough for you to eat and retain a Snickers bar!
Seize Congratulations on the coffee. I am sure I have heard the same as Mustang. I hope you get the redundancy that you want.
Natsku Lets hope the Dreaded FD's either go or come to something soon.
Thank you so much 1984FS For coming in. What a lovely photo. So sweet. I am so glad that this thread helped you when you were suffering, and that your Hyperemesis went graciously away...
Waves to Shehz Justtheoneand everyone...

LucindaE · 02/02/2018 14:06

nailsathome Cross posted. Welcome. Unfortunately, that sounds like Hyperemesis. Take comfort, those who have been expecting twins on this thread - only about three - have recovered far sooner than average, very likely because they wouldn't have had it with a normal pregnancy and the normal level of hormones. Do get some meds from your GP, explaining how different this is. They have several safe ones. Also, how much liquid can you retain? You need to check for dehydration. Do invest in some kesostix from a chemists to check for the early stages of dehydration. Some drink suggestions and food (of a sort) from sufferers on here. Flat full sugar coke, ice lollies, ice cubes, soda water, Elderflower Water, Lucoazade, the juice of tinned fruit, fizzy orange, orange juice (if you don't have bad heartburn), sips of chocolate milkshake (maybe soya), Dr Pepper, cuppa soup, slices of melon and mango, tinned fruit (especially peaches and pears), nibbles of crisps and chips, and cheap ice cream. A truly dreadful diet, but many graduate to potatoes and home made vegetable soup a bit later on.
How is Emu? I'm glad she pointed you over here. I am usually around more, but my PC , which was long ailing, was taken into the care of the IT man and I am having to use the library PC.

OP posts:
Natsku · 02/02/2018 14:07

Sorry you have to join us nailsathome but congrats on your pregnancy, twins! I think I heard sickness tends to be worse in multiple pregnancies so would make sense that you have HG, not that that's any comfort I'm sure. I'd make an appointment with your GP if I were you as soon as possible.
